The aim of this study was to evaluate acute effects of ethyl tert-butyl ether (ETBE) in man after short-term exposure. ETBE may in the future replace methyl tert-butyl ether, a widely used oxygenate in unleaded gasoline. Eight healthy male volunteers were exposed to ETBE vapor for 2 h at four levels (0, 5, 25, and 50 ppm) during light physical exercise. The subjects rated irritative symptoms, discomfort, and central nervous system effects in a questionnaire. Ocular (eye redness, tear film break-up time, conjunctival epithelial damage, and blinking frequency), nasal (acoustic rhinometry and analysis of inflammatory markers and cells in nasal lavage fluid), and pulmonary (peak expiratory flow, forced expiratory volume in 1 s, forced vital capacity, vital capacity, and transfer factor) measurements were performed. Significantly increased ratings of solvent smell (p = 0.001, repeated-measures ANOVA) were seen during exposures and correlated to exposure levels. Furthermore, significantly elevated ratings of discomfort in throat and airways were seen during and after 50 ppm compared to the control exposure (p = 0.02). Increased nasal swelling (p = 0.001) and blinking frequency (p = 0.01) were noted at all exposure levels, but their magnitudes were not related to exposure levels. A slightly impaired pulmonary function was seen at 25 and 50 ppm, since forced vital capacity (p = 0.02) and vital capacity (p = 0.04) differed significantly from the clean air exposure. Although the impairments seemed to fall within normal inter- and intraindividual variation and have no clinical relevance as such, it cannot be excluded that other individuals may react more severely than eight healthy male volunteers in this study.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate bone mineral density changes in patients with juvenile chronic arthritis (JCA) and to determine the most likely causes of osteoporosis in these patients. Eighteen (11 male, 7 female) patients suffering from JCA and 14 healthy controls (10 male, four female) were included in this study. The mean age of the patients and control groups were 11.0 +/- 3.2 and 10.9 +/- 2.9 years respectively. Disease activity was determined by clinical and laboratory evaluation and 'Articular Disease Severity Score' (ADSS). Bone mineral density (BMD) of the femoral neck and lumbar spine was measured by dual photon absorptiometry. BMD of the patients at the lumbar spine was significantly lower than the control group (p < 0.05). This difference was more marked in patients treated with steroids. Femoral neck BMD was also lower in the patient group but this difference was not statistically significant. There was a negative correlation between ADSS and BMD at the spine. In conclusion, trabecular bone loss is characteristic for osteoporosis in JCA. Our results indicate that steroid treatment and disease severity are important factors in the development of osteoporosis in JCA.  相似文献

In this study, we reported that fatty acid hydroperoxides and hydrogen peroxide are capable of epoxidizing 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal, a lipid peroxidation product, to the mutagenic epoxide. The evidence of its formation is provided (i) by trapping with [8-3H]deoxyadenosine for the formation of 7-(1',2'-dihydroxyheptyl)-1,N6-ethenodeoxyadenosine as a pair of diastereomers, (ii) by derivatization with (2,4-dinitrophenyl)hydrazine in acidic methanol, and (iii) by comparing its 1H-nuclear magnetic resonance and mass spectra to those of the authentic standard. After incubating 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal with 9- or 13-linoleic acid hydroperoxide at 37 degrees C for 24 h, the epoxide was produced in 13.4% or 12.5% yield, and with hydrogen peroxide, the yield was 21.5%. In the presence of fatty acid (linoleic acid, gamma-linolenic acid, or arachidonic acid) and lipoxygenase, the epoxide of 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal was formed in 15.3%, 7.2%, or 6.2% yield, respectively. The xanthine/xanthine oxidase/superoxide dismutase system generated the epoxide in 1.2% yield. These yields are estimated on the basis of a standard curve obtained from reactions of deoxyadenosine and epoxide. These results show that 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal is epoxidized by biological oxidants, suggesting a plausible endogenous pathway for the in vivo formation of etheno adducts.  相似文献

The influence of dietary (n-3) compared with (n-6) polyunsatured fatty acids (PUFA) on the lipid composition and metabolism of adipocytes was evaluated in rats over a period of 1 week. Isocaloric diets comprised 16.3 g/100 g protein, 53.8 g/100 g carbohydrate and 21.4 g/100 g lipids, the latter containing either (n-3) PUFA (32.4 mol/100 mol) or (n-6) PUFA (37.8 mol/100 mol) but having identical contents of saturated, monounsaturated and total unsaturated fatty acids and identical polyunsaturated to saturated fatty acid ratios and double bond indexes. Despite comparable food intake, significantly smaller body weight increments and adipocyte size were observed in rats of the (n-3) diet group after feeding for 1 wk. Rats fed the (n-3) diet also had significantly lower concentrations of serum triglycerides, cholesterol and insulin compared with those fed the (n-6) diet, although levels of serum glucose and free fatty acids did not differ in the two dietary groups. In the (n-6) diet group, the (n-6) and (n-3) PUFA contents of plasma triglycerides, free fatty acids and phospholipids were 30-60% higher and 60-80% lower, respectively, than in the (n-3) diet group, whereas adipocyte plasma membrane phospholipids showed a significantly higher unsaturated to saturated fatty acid ratio and greater fluidity. Glycerol release in response to noradrenaline was significantly higher in the adipocytes of rats fed the (n-3) diet, whereas the antilipolytic effect of insulin generally did not differ in the two groups. Finally, insulin stimulated the transport of glucose and its incorporation into fatty acids to a lesser extent in adipocytes of (n-3) diet fed rats compared with (n-6) diet fed rats. This reduction in the metabolic effects of insulin in rats fed a (n-3) diet for 1 wk could be related to smaller numbers and a lower binding capacity of the insulin receptors on adipocytes and/or to a lesser degree of phosphorylation of the 95 kDa beta subunit of the receptor. In conclusion, dietary intake for 1 wk of (n-3) rather than (n-6) PUFA is sufficient to induce significant differences in the lipid composition and metabolic responses to insulin of rat adipocytes.  相似文献

Background spike activity of 235 cells of the integrative subcortical motor center, i.e., the ventrolateral nucleus of the thalamus, were analyzed in nonanesthetized human brains during stereotaxic surgery in patients with various forms of Parkinson's disease. Previous data on the existence of two major types of neurons with convergent properties in the ventrolateral nucleus were confirmed. These cell types are: 1) cells with irregular occasional activity, with a tendency for spikes to group into the frequency ranges 5 +/- 1 and 10-30 Hz (type A cells, 74%), and 2) cells with constant rhythmic (3-6 Hz) generation of short volleys of discharges, with an interval structure similar to that of low-threshold Ca(2+)-dependent volley activity (type B, 26%). This is the first report demonstrating that changes in the functional state of the brain (after repeated movement trials, in transient anesthesia) are accompanied by transiently occurring transformations of the initial irregular activity of A cells into a rhythmic, volley-like pattern whose interval structure was in some cases similar to the spike activity of B cells. Differences in the localizations of A and B neurons in the ventrolateral nucleus are described, along with differences in the correlation characteristics of their background spike activity with the pathological features of Parkinson's disease (tremor, rigidity). The nature of the two types of convergent neurons in the ventrolateral nucleus is discussed, and a basis is laid for the importance of the functional factor in understanding the transformation of their background spike activity, due to the properties of cell membranes and intercellular and interstructure interactions in conditions of the living nonanesthetized human brain.  相似文献

The intrarectal administration of trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid in rats induces ulcerative colitis, which results in histological alterations of colonic mucosa, severe modification of the cellular antioxidant defense system, and enhanced production of inflammatory eicosanoids. This study evaluated the influence of different dietary fatty acids, i.e., monounsaturated, n-3, and n-3 + n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids, on the recovery of the colonic mucosa histological pattern, the cellular antioxidant defense system of colon, and PGE2 and LTB4 colonic mucosa contents in a model of ulcerative colitis induced by intrarectal administration of trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid. Administration of dietary n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids led to a minimum stenosis score, a higher histological recovery, lower colon alkaline phosphatase and gamma-glutamyltranspeptidase activities, and lower mucosal levels of PGE2 and LTB4 compared with the other two experimental groups. However, glutathione transferase, glutathione reductase, glutathione peroxidase, and catalase activities were lower in the group treated with n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids than in the groups fed with either the monounsaturated or the n-6 + n-3 polyunsaturated enriched diet. We conclude that n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids can be administered to prevent inflammation in ulcerative colitis, but they cause a decrease in the colonic antioxidant defense system, promoting oxidative injury at the site of inflammation.  相似文献

Over an interval of approximately six months beginning in October 1993, most haemophilia A patients in Canada were switched from a plasma-derived intermediate-purity factor VIII concentrate (i.p. VIII) to a recombinant factor VIII (rVIII). In order to determine the consequence of this change in therapy on progression of HIV infection, we gathered surveillance data on clinical status and CD4 and CD8 cell counts in those patients who were HIV seropositive at the time of switching concentrates. Data were recorded at the time of switchover, annually for 2 years thereafter, and retrospectively at a point 1 year prior to the switch. CD4 cells fell significantly over the study period. Multiple direct comparisons revealed that this decline was restricted to the time intervals which included the final year in which patients received intermediate-purity factor VIII concentrate (i.p. VIII). In the 2 year interval in which rVIII was used exclusively, there was a nonsignificant fall in CD4 cells. Changes in CD4 cells did not correlate with the intensity of exposure to either i.p.VIII or rVIII. CD8 cells did not fall significantly over the study period. There was no obvious reduction in the incidence of death or clinical progression over the 2 years in which rVIII was used. However, we are hopeful that the stabilizing trend in CD4 cell counts which followed the introduction of rVIII will be predictive of corresponding clinical stabilization over the coming years.  相似文献

Previous research has established that 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal (HNE), a highly toxic product of lipid peroxidation, is a potent inhibitor of mitochondrial respiration. HNE exerts its effects on respiration by inhibiting alpha-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase (KGDH). Because of the central role of KGDH in metabolism and emerging evidence that free radicals contribute to mitochondrial dysfunction associated with numerous diseases, it is of great interest to further characterize the mechanism of inhibition. In the present study, treatment of rat heart mitochondria with HNE resulted in the selective inhibition of KGDH and pyruvate dehydrogenase (PDH), while other NADH-linked dehydrogenases and electron chain complexes were unaffected. KGDH and PDH are structurally and catalytically similar multienzyme complexes, suggesting a common mode of inhibition. To determine the mechanism of inhibition, the effects of HNE on purified KGDH and PDH were examined. These studies revealed that inactivation by HNE was greatly enhanced in the presence of substrates that reduce the sulfur atoms of lipoic acid covalently bound to the E2 subunits of KGDH and PDH. In addition, loss of enzyme activity induced by HNE correlated closely with a decrease in the availability of lipoic acid sulfhydryl groups. Use of anti-lipoic acid antibodies indicated that HNE modified lipoic acid in both purified enzyme preparations and mitochondria and that this modification was dependent upon the presence of substrates. These results therefore identify a potential mechanism whereby free radical production and subsequent lipid peroxidation lead to specific modification of KGDH and PDH and inhibition of NADH-linked mitochondrial respiration.  相似文献

We examined the effect of dietary n-6 and n-3 fatty acids on the lipid composition and physical properties of erythrocyte membranes together with cholesterol and triglyceride plasmatic levels in normal and experimental diabetic rats. Plasmatic total cholesterol and triglyceride did not change in normal rats under the dietary regime, but both parameters decreased significantly in the diabetic animals after the consumption of either n-6 or n-3 fatty acids. Lipid analyses of erythrocyte membranes revealed a significant decrease in the total cholesterol together with an increase in the phospholipid amount in the diabetics compared to the normal rats. As a consequence, cholesterol/phospholipid ratio decreased in these groups of animals and markedly in those fed n-3 fatty acids. These changes would be responsible for the lower fluorescent polarization of DPH observed in the latter group. We conclude that equivalent and adequate amounts of dietary either n-6 or n-3 fatty acids produce plasmatic and red cell membrane lipid changes in diabetic rats that may improve the evolution of the disease.  相似文献

Ethyl linoleate, ethyl linolenate, ethyl arachidonate and cod liver oil were oxidized with Fenton's reagent. Acrolein, malonaldehyde and 4-hydroxynonenal formed were derivatized to N-methylpyrazoline, N-methylpyrazole and 5-(1'-hydroxyhexyl)-1-methyl-2-pyrazoline with N-methylhydrazine, respectively. The derivatives were simultaneously analysed by gas chromatograph equipped with a fused silica capillary column and a nitrogen-phosphorus detector. The maximum amounts of acrolein (9.7 +/- 2.11 nmol/ml) and malonaldehyde (61.18 +/- 6.51 nmol/ml) were formed from cod liver oil. The highest amount of 4-hydroxynonenal (6.83 +/- 0.53 nmol/ml) was produced from ethyl arathidonate.  相似文献

The cytologically active secondary lipid peroxidation products, malondialdehyde (MDA) and 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal (HNE) have been detected as their 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazone (DNP) derivatives in plant tissue cultures using LC-MS. This paper reports, for the first time, the use of LC-MS methodology to definitively identify 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal in plants. Limits of detection for the two derivatives are approximately 5 pmol (1.2 x 10(-9) g; 1 microM) and 0.1 pmol (3 x 10(-11) g; 20 nM) respectively. Mass spectrometer response was linear in the range from 2-200 microM DNP-MDA and 0.02-10 microM DNP-HNE. This methodology has been used to assess the formation of aldehydic secondary lipid peroxidation products in dedifferentiated callus cultures of Daucus carota. The finding that profiles of MDA and HNE can be correlated with embryogenic competence is of considerable interest as oxidative status has already been implicated as a regulatory factor in animal development.  相似文献

In order to gain further insight into the mechanism of platelet dysfunction frequently reported in diabetes we investigated circulating fatty acids, lipid composition of platelet membrane and platelet function in Type 2 diabetic patients. In these subjects, percentages of C16 : 1n-7 and C18 : 1n-9 in serum phospholipid fraction and of C16 : 1n-7 in serum cholesterol ester fraction were decreased. Moreover, the content of C20 : 4n-6 in serum cholesterol esters was altered in Type 2 diabetic subjects: C18 : 0 and C20 : 3n-6 were increased but C20 : 4n-6 content was similar to controls. Aggregation in vitro did not differ from controls but aggregation in vivo was increased in Type 2 diabetic subjects. No correlation was observed between metabolic parameters -i.e., HbA1, blood glucose, serum triglycerides and total cholesterol, circulating fatty acids and fatty acid content of platelet membrane. A negative linear correlation was found between aggregation in vivo and C20 : 4n-6 content of platelet membrane. Moreover, a U shaped relationship was observed between platelet aggregation in vitro and C20 : 4n-6 content of platelet membrane suggesting that C20 : 4n-6 level should be tightly controlled otherwise platelet hyperreactivity may occur. These results indicate that despite a normal mean C20 : 4n-6 content in the platelet membrane, regulation of C20 : 4n-6 metabolism is less strictly controlled in Type 2 diabetes mellitus and confirm the importance of arachidonic acid platelet content in the regulation of platelet aggregability.  相似文献

Ischemia leads to intracellular acidification which can be counteracted by the Na+/H+-exchange mechanism. A blockade of this exchanger has been hypothesized to cause stronger intracellular acidification in the course of ischemia thereby protecting the heart from ischemic damage. The aim of our study was to find out (1) whether in the course of ischemia areas become electrically silent, (2) whether this is enhanced by the Na+/H+-exchange inhibitor cariporide (4-Isopropyl-3-methylsulfonylbenzoyl-guanidine; Hoe 642) and whether cariporide has protective effects. Therefore, we submitted isolated rabbit hearts, perfused according to the Langendorff technique to regional ischemia (LAD occlusion) for 30 min followed by 30 min reperfusion with (n=7) or without (n=7) pre-treatment with 1 microM cariporide. Under these conditions 256-channel epicardial potential mapping was carried out. Under non-ischemic conditions cariporide did not alter any of the parameters under observation. We found that ischemia led to marked alterations of the activation pattern, to action potential shortening and a marked increase in the dispersion of refractoriness. In the ischemic region there was a significant ST deviation from the isoelectrical line (control 32+/-10; 30 min ischemia: 290+/-35 arbitrary units [a.u.]). This was markedly reduced by cariporide (control 39+/-10; 30 min ischemia: 170+/-25 a.u.). The increase in dispersion by ischemia (by 50+/-5 ms) was significantly counteracted by cariporide (increased dispersion by 20+/-4 ms). In a similar way the alteration of the activation pattern was antagonized. Under the influence of cariporide we found a lower increase in the left ventricular enddiastolic pressure, and a significantly slower recovery of the action potential duration. After 30 min of ischemia 24+/-5 (control series) 24.5+/-5 mm2 (cariporide) became electrically silent. In a second series of experiments the incidence of arrhythmia was assessed: we found ventricular fibrillation in 6/7 untreated control hearts and in 4/7 cariporide treated hearts. In a third series of experiments we determined the intracellular [ATP] after 30 min of LAD occlusion using a histochemical method. We observed a decrease in [ATP] in the ischemic region as compared to the non-ischemic right ventricular wall, which was less pronounced in cariporide-treated hearts. Thus, we conclude that (1) cariporide protects the heart from ischemic damage and (2) at least under these conditions an enlargement of the electrically silent area did not occur.  相似文献

Height and weight of 6th year-grade children in primary schools and the 3rd year-grade children in junior high schools have been recorded in Sendai in every October since pre-World War II days, and the secular trends of the annual gains in the measures were compared among the latest three decades of 1965-74, 1975-84 and 1985-94. Acceleration and then reduction in acceleration in growth were observed in the first and the second decade, respectively, and such were followed by reacceleration in the latest 10 year-period. The three-phased changes were most evident in height and weight of primary school children of both sexes, whereas less clear or unclear among children in junior high schools.  相似文献

Antiphospholipid antibody is associated with a clinical syndrome of vascular thrombosis, thrombocytopenia, recurrent fetal loss and livedo reticularis, whether or not a clinical diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) coexists. Central nervous system involvement in SLE is multifactorial, thrombotic events, antineuronal antibodies, hypertension, infection, side effects of drugs etc. Antiphospholipid antibodies may play a role in focal neurological manifestations in SLE. In the absence of SLE, different neurological symptoms are well associated with antiphospholipid antibodies including stroke, seizures, dementia, migraine, ocular ischemia, chorea, transverse myelopathy, cerebral phlebitis. Other association are more controversal like Guillain Barré syndrome, motor neuron disease, communicating hydrocephalus. In all patients with antiphospholipid antibodies with neurological involvement, cerebral MRI may be performed with an echocardiographic study because a possible association with Libman and Sacks endocarditis, valve dysfunction or cardiac thrombus source of cerebral ischemia.  相似文献

The influence of aging (2, 6, 12, and 24 months) on hippocampal lipid composition and neurochemical markers (endogenous noradrenaline, serotonin levels, monoamine oxidase (MOA) activities) was studied in rats fed a control or an n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA)-deficient diet. The n-3 PUFA deficiency reduced the 22:6 (n-3) level, compensated by the increase in 22:5 (n-6). However, the difference in 22:6 (n-3) content between control and deficient rats was less between 2 and 12 months and then became stable. There was an overall age-induced decrease in the major phospholipid classes phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), and phosphatidylcholine (PC) whereas the minor classes, phosphatidylinositol (PI), phosphatidylserine (PS), and sphingomyelin (SM), were greatly increased, regardless of diet. The n-3 PUFA deficiency induced a reduction in the PS level, concomitant with a higher level in MAO-B activity as compared to control rats at the age of 24 months. The age-related evolution of the MAO-B activity was parallel with that of noradrenaline levels in both dietary groups. The noradrenaline and serotonin levels were modified according to age but without effect of the n-3 PUFA deficiency. Results showed that the hippocampus sustained specific age-induced modifications in lipid composition and neurotransmission factors, often with a transition period between 6 and 12 months.  相似文献

Thirty beagles were placed on diets containing ratios of n-6 to n-3 fatty acids ranging from 5:1 to 100:1 for 12 weeks to determine the effects of these diets on platelet reactivity, coagulation screening assays, and antithrombin III activity. Although small changes were observed in adenosine diphosphate (ADP)-, collagen-, and arachidonic acid-induced platelet aggregation and 14C-serotonin release, fibrinogen concentrations, and antithrombin III activities during the 12-week study, these changes were not of clinical significance and did not correlate with the varying ratios of n-6 to n-3 fatty acids.  相似文献

An investigation was made to alter the fatty acid composition of pork and a pork product in line with human dietary advice while not adversely affecting factors controlling consumer acceptability. Pigs (n = 150) were assigned to three dietary treatments with 25 intact male-female pairs per treatment. Diet A (control) contained 3% of a 4:1 (wt/ wt) tallow-soybean oil mixture. Diets B and C contained 2% rapeseed oil plus 1% fish oil. Diets A, B, and C were supplemented with 100, 100, and 250 mg of all-rac-alpha-tocopheryl acetate/kg of diet, respectively. Pigs were given ad libitum access to feed from 52 kg live weight until 95 kg (slaughter). Sausages were prepared from the resulting cuts. Tissues of pigs were evaluated in terms of fat firmness, color, fatty acid composition, and contents of alpha-tocopherol and thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBARS). Organoleptic characteristics of chops and sausages were evaluated by a trained taste panel. Pigs fed Diets B and C had improved feed conversion ratios (P < .05) and ADG compared with control pigs. The levels of n-3 (omega-3) polyunsaturates were significantly increased in the tissues and sausage from pigs fed Diets B and C with associated alterations in n-6 to n-3 fatty acid ratios that accorded with contemporary human dietary recommendations. Levels of alpha-tocopherol and TBARS were significantly altered in the tissues. There were no appreciable differences between treatments in carcass characteristics, including color. The overall organoleptic acceptability of chops and sausages was not different between the treatments.  相似文献

To explore whether the metabolic responses to trans, compared with cis, fatty acids depend on the source of dietary polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), male Sprague-Dawley rats, 5 weeks old, were fed on diets containing 30 g oleic (cis) or elaidic (trans) acids/kg in combination with either 70 g perilla oil (alpha-linolenic acid) or safflowerseed oil (linoleic acid)/kg for 3 weeks in separate experiments. The dietary fats were adjusted to have the same level of total PUFA. The dietary manipulation did not influence the growth indices, but spleen weight was greater when the dietary PUFA source was perilla oil. The incorporation of trans fatty acid into liver phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylinositol and phosphatidylserine and adipose tissue lipids, particularly phospholipids, was significantly higher when rats were fed on safflowerseed oil compared with perilla oil. However, only limited differences were observed in the effects of cis and trans fatty acids on the proportions of PUFA in liver phospholipids. Splenic production of prostaglandin E2 was reduced by trans fatty acid when safflowerseed oil was the PUFA source, but no trans effect was observed on leukotriene C4 production. Dietary PUFA significantly influenced the concentration of plasma immunoglobulins (Ig) but the effect of geometry was only seen in IgG which was increased by trans acid. Dietary trans fatty acid increased the CD4+:CD8+ T-lymphocyte ratio in the spleen, reflecting a decreasing trend of the proportion of CD8+, when combined with perilla oil. These observations indicate that the type of PUFA simultaneously ingested specifically influences the effect that trans acid exerts on PUFA metabolism, eicosanoid production and some immune indices.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to characterize n-3 and n-6 fatty acid delta5- and delta6-desaturase activities and their time course variations in human fetal liver between the 17th and 36th gestational week. STUDY DESIGN: Twenty-one biologic samples were obtained after legally approved medical abortion, according to French law. The desaturase activities were measured in the 21 liver samples by a radiochemical method by means of reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography. The fatty acid composition (percentage by weight) of liver phospholipids was assessed in 16 samples by gas-liquid chromatographic analysis. RESULTS: Both delta5- and delta6-desaturase activities were significantly expressed between the 17th and 36th gestational weeks. During the second trimester n-6 fatty acid delta5- and delta6-desaturase activities showed opposite patterns of variation; both then remained stable between the 25th and 36th weeks. Delta6-desaturation was higher in n-3 than n-6 fatty acids and peaked at the 18th gestational week. The percentages of linoleic and docosahexaenoic acids in liver microsomes were positively correlated with the gestation age (P < .01), whereas arachidonic acid remained stable. CONCLUSION: Significant n-3 and n-6 delta5- and delta6-desaturase activities are expressed in human fetal liver as early as the 17th gestational week and are stable throughout the third trimester. Their theoretic capacity evaluated from in vitro measurements appears lower than polyunsaturated fatty acid requirements and is not directly related to liver microsomal membrane fatty acid composition.  相似文献
