The 300M steel was welded by electron beam welding (EBW) with optimized welding parameters in the annealed state. As-welded, for comparison, and as-quenched (oil quenching at 870 °C × 1 h and tempering at 315 °C × 2 h) welded joints were investigated in this paper. The microstructure and fracture morphology were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and optical microscope. X-ray energy spectrum analysis was used to determine chemical composition of phases formed at the joint. The microhardness and tensile strength were evaluated. Results indicate that the weld metal microstructures of the as-welded joint are lower bainite, retained austenite and pro-eutectoid ferrite; the heat affected zone microstructure is sorbite with undissolved particles. The microstructure of as-quenched joint is tempered martensite. The tensile strength of the joints after quenching reached 1900 MPa.  相似文献

6005A-T6 aluminum alloy is welded by stationary shoulder friction stir welding (SSFSW). At a constant rotational velocity of 2000 rpm, the effect of welding speed on mechanical properties of SSFSW joint are investigated in detail. Defect-free joint with gloss surface and small flash is attained and no cracks appear at the bending angle of 180°. Compared with traditional friction stir welding (FSW), width of rotational shoulder affected zone is relatively small because of the smaller diameter of rotational shoulder. Increasing welding speed is benefit for reducing the width of softening region and the softening degree. The fracture position of welding joint locates in thermo-mechanically affected zone and the fracture surface morphology presents the typical ductile fracture. The maximum tensile strength of joint at the welding speed of 400 mm/min reaches 82% of base metal (BM).  相似文献

The microstructure and properties of water-cooled and air-cooled friction stir welded (FSW) ultra-high strength high nitrogen stainless steel joints were comparatively studied. With additional rapid cooling by flowing water, the peak temperature and duration at elevated temperature during FSW were significantly reduced. Compared to those in the air-cooled joint, nugget zone with finer grains (900 nm) and heat affected zone with higher dislocation density were successfully obtained in the water-cooled joint, leading to significantly improved mechanical properties. The wear of the welding tool was significantly reduced with water cooling, resulting in better corrosion resistance during the immersion corrosion test.  相似文献

During the friction stir welding (FSW) of heat-treatable aluminum alloys, the welding thermal cycles tend to cause a local softening in the joints and thus lead to a degradation in joint properties. Underwater FSW has been demonstrated to be available for the strength improvement of normal joints. In order to obtain the optimum welding condition for underwater FSW, a 2219-T6 aluminum alloy was underwater friction stir welded and a mathematical model was developed to optimize the welding parameters for maximum tensile strength in the present study. The results indicate that a maximum tensile strength of 360 MPa can be achieved through underwater FSW, higher than the maximum tensile strength obtained in normal condition.  相似文献

The relatively new welding process friction stir welding (FSW) was applied in this research work to join 6 mm thick dissimilar aluminum alloys AA5083-H111 and AA6351-T6. The effect of tool rotational speed and pin profile on the microstructure and tensile strength of the joints were studied. Dissimilar joints were made using three different tool rotational speeds of 600 rpm, 950 rpm and 1300 rpm and five different tool pin profiles of straight square (SS), straight hexagon (SH), straight octagon (SO), tapered square (TS), and tapered octagon (TO). Three different regions namely unmixed region, mechanically mixed region and mixed flow region were observed in the weld zone. The tool rotational speed and pin profile considerably influenced the microstructure and tensile strength of the joints. The joint which was fabricated using tool rotational speed of 950 rpm and straight square pin profile yielded highest tensile strength of 273 MPa. The two process parameters affected the joint strength due to variations in material flow behavior, loss of cold work in the HAZ of AA5083 side, dissolution and over aging of precipitates of AA6351 side and formation of macroscopic defects in the weld zone.  相似文献

In this study, 5083-H111 and 6082-T651 aluminum alloy plates in 6 mm thickness that are used particularly for shipbuilding industry were welded using Friction Stir Welding (FSW) method as similar and dissimilar joints with one side pass at PA position with the parameters of 1250 rpm tool rotation, 64 mm/min welding speed and 2° tool tilt angle. Tensile tests results showed sufficient joint efficiencies and surprisingly high yield stress values. Bending fatigue test results of all joint types showed fatigue strength close to each other. Fatigue strength order of the joints were respectively FSWed 5083-5083, and 6082-6082 similar joints and 5083-6082 dissimilar joint. Cross sections of the weld zones have been analyzed with light optical microscopy (LOM) and fracture surface of fatigue test specimens were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Although there were no voids in radiographic and microscopic analyzes, 5083-6082 joint showed rarely encountered voiding effect under fatigue load. Microhardness measurements revealed rare result for FSWed AW5083 and novel result for FSWed 6082 aluminum alloy.  相似文献

Joints of Al 5186 to mild steel were performed by using friction stir welding (FSW) technique. The effects of various FSW parameters such as tool traverse speed, plunge depth, tilt angle and tool pin geometry on the formation of intermetallic compounds (IMCs), tunnel formation and tensile strength of joints were investigated. At low welding speeds due to the formation of thick IMCs (which was characterized as Al6Fe and Al5Fe2) in the weld zone the tensile strength of joints was very poor. Even at low welding speeds the tunnel defect was formed. As the welding speed increased, the IMCs decreased and the joint exhibited higher tensile strength. The tunnel defect could not be avoided by using cylindrical 4 mm and 3 mm pin diameter. By using a standard threaded M3 tool pin the tunnel was avoided and a bell shape nugget formed. Therefore tensile strength of the joint increased to 90% of aluminum base alloy strength. At higher welding speed and lower tool plunge depth, the joint strength decreased due to lack of bonding between aluminum and steel. Based on the findings, a FSW window has been developed and presented.  相似文献

In this study, the very high cycle fatigue (VHCF) properties of 7050-T7451 aluminum alloy and its friction stir welding (FSW) butt welds have been investigated. The results show that the failure of FSW joints still occurs at 7.0 × 108 cycles. The fatigue properties of the FSW joints are superior to those of the base material, especially in the super long life regime. Most fatigue cracks initiate at the thermo-mechanically affected zone and heat affected zone on the advancing side of the FSW joints, and the susceptibility of these zones to fatigue is attributed to the metallurgical heterogeneity.  相似文献

Friction stir welding (FSW) is a solid-state joining process, and the joining temperature is lower than that in the fusion welding process. The effect of alloying elements on the microstructure of dissimilar joints of a Mg–Zn–Zr alloy (ZK60) and titanium by using FSW, was examined. A commercial ZK60 and a titanium plates with 2 mm in thickness was butt-joined by inserting the probe into the ZK60 plate, and slightly offset into the titanium plate side to ensure the direct contact between them. The average tensile strength of the joint was 237 MPa, which was about 69% of that of ZK60 and a fracture occurred mainly in the stir zone of ZK60 and partly at the joint interface. A thin Zn and Zr-rich layer with about 1 m in thickness was formed at the joint interface, which affected the tensile strength of the dissimilar joint of ZK60 and titanium.  相似文献

It is a challenge to achieve a sound welded metal/carbon-fiber-reinforced thermoplastic (CFRTP) joint with high strength and few bubbles. In this study, sound lap joints of Cu and CFRTP were obtained by friction lap joining (FLJ) directly at rotation rates of 600–2000 rpm, with the welding tool at the joint center and offsetting the tool 7 mm away from the center toward the retreating side, respectively. Tool offsetting reduced the non-uniform temperature distribution in the lap joints resulting from the high conductivity of Cu, which not only enhanced the tensile shear force from 0.89–2.25 kN to 1.71–3.54 kN, with the maximum increasing rate of 135%, but also reduced the bubble area to only 19% of the original level of 2000 rpm. It is the first time to report a high-quality Cu/CFRTP joint with a high strength and few bubbles. The large increase of the strength after tool offsetting was attributed to the increase of the joining area, the decrease of bubbles and the decrease of the CFRTP degradation. The details on the generation, quantitative distribution and expulsion of the bubbles in the FLJ joints were discussed.  相似文献

7085-T7452 plates with a thickness of 12 mm were welded by conventional single side and bobbin tool friction stir welding (SS-FSW and BB-FSW, respectively) at different welding parameters. The temperature distribution, microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of joints along the thickness direction were investigated, and digital image correlation (DIC) was utilized to evaluate quantitatively the deformation of different zones during tensile tests. The results indicated that heat-affected zone (HAZ), the local softening region, was responsible for the early plastic deformation and also the fracture location for SS-FSW samples, while a rapid fracture was observed in weld nugget zone (WNZ) before yield behavior for all BB-FSW specimens. The ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of SS-FSW joints presented the highest value of 410 MPa, 82% of the base material, at a rotational speed of 300 rpm and welding speed of 60 mm/min, much higher than that of BB-FSW joints, with a joint efficiency of only 47%. This should be attributed to the Lazy S defect produced by a larger extent of heat input during the BB-FSW process. The whole joint exhibited a much higher elongation than the slices. Scanning electron microscopic (SEM) analysis of the fracture morphologies showed that joints failed through ductile fracture for SS-FSW and brittle fracture for BB-FSW.  相似文献

Formation of intermetallic compounds (IMCs) during friction stir welding (FSW) of aluminum/magnesium (Al/Mg) alloys easily results in the pin adhesion and then deteriorates joint formation. The severe pin adhesion transformed the tapered-and-screwed pin into a tapered pin at a low welding speed of 30 mm/min. The pin adhesion problem was solved with the help of ultrasonic. The weldability of Al/Mg alloys was significantly improved due to the good material flow induced by mechanical vibration and the fragments of the IMCs on the surface of a rotating pin caused by acoustic streaming, respectively. A sound joint with ultrasonic contained long Al/Mg interface joining length and complex mixture of Al/Mg alloys in the stir zone, thereby achieving perfect metallurgical bonding and mechanical interlocking. The ultrasonic could broaden process window and then improve tensile properties. The tensile strength of the Al/Mg joint with ultrasonic reached 115 MPa.  相似文献

In the present work, the influence of heating aging treatment (HAT) on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Al–Zn–Mg–Cu alloy was investigated. When the final aging temperature (FAT) was lower than 180 °C, the hardness increased with the decreasing of heating rate, however, in the case of the FAT was higher than 180 °C, the variation of hardness was opposite. The electrical conductivity of Al–Zn–Mg–Cu alloy increased with the decrease of heating rate regardless of FAT. The tensile strength, yield strength and conductivity of the Al alloy after (100–180 °C, 20 °C/h) HAT increased by 1.6%, 4.5% and 14.1% than that after T6 treatment, respectively. The precipitates sequence of HAT was coincident with that of isothermal aging, which is SSS  GP zone  η  η. With the increase of FAT and the decrease of heating rate, the fine precipitates became larger and the continuous η phase at grain boundary grew to be individual large precipitates. The HAT time was decreased about 80% than that for T6 treatment, indicating HAT could improve the mechanical properties, corrosion resistance and production efficiency with less energy consumption.  相似文献

Ti–22Al–27Nb alloys were welded using the laser beam welding process. The microstructure characterization and the tensile properties of the laser beam welded joints were investigated. The experimental results showed that a well-quality joint could be obtained using laser beam welding method. The fusion zone of the welded joint was composed of B2 phase. The tensile strength of the joints at room temperature was basically comparable to that of the base metal and the tensile ductility of the joints achieved 56% of the base metal. The average tensile strength of the welded joints at 650 °C was tested to be about 733 MPa, with the elongation of 2.93%.  相似文献

High strength low alloy (HSLA) and dual-phase DP980 (UTS  980 MPa) steels were joined using fiber laser welding in similar and dissimilar materials combinations. The welded joints were characterized with respect to microhardness and tensile properties at three different temperatures: −40 °C, 25 °C, and 180 °C. Tensile properties of the welded joints were compared to those of the base metal (BM) obtained under similar conditions. A good correlation was found between the welded joints and the BM in relation to the tensile properties obtained at the different temperatures. A general trend of increase in the yield strength (YS), the ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and energy absorption (EA) with decreasing temperature was observed; however, work hardening coefficient was not altered and insignificant scatter was observed in case of the elongation. However, in the DP980 steel, dynamic strain ageing was observed only in the BM.  相似文献

Stationary shoulder friction stir welding (SSFSW) butt welded joints were fabricated successfully for AA6061-T6 sheets with 5.0 mm thickness. The welding experiments were performed using 750–1500 rpm tool rotation speeds and 100–300 mm/min welding speeds. The effects of welding parameters on microstructure and mechanical properties for the obtained welds were discussed and analyzed in detail. It is verified that the defect-free SSFSW welds with fine and smooth surface were obtained for all the selected welding parameters, and the weld transverse sections are obviously different from that of conventional FSW joint. The SSFSW nugget zone (NZ) has “bowl-like” shapes with fairly narrow thermal mechanically affected zone (TMAZ) and heat affected zone (HAZ) and the microstructures of weld region are rather symmetrical and homogeneous. The 750–1500 rpm rotation speeds apparently increase the widths of NZ, TMAZ and HAZ, while the influences of 100–300 mm/min welding speeds on their widths are weak. The softening regions with the average hardness equivalent 60% of the base metal are produced on both advancing side and retreating side. The tensile properties of AA6061-T6 SSFSW joints are almost unaffected by the 750–1500 rpm rotation speeds for given 100 mm/min, while the changing of welding speed from 100–300 mm/min for given 1500 rpm obviously increased the tensile strength of the joint and the maximum value for welding parameter 1500 rpm and 300 mm/min reached 77.3% of the base metal strength. The tensile fracture sites always locate in HAZ either on the advancing side or retreating side of the joints.  相似文献

S31042 heat-resistant steel was joined by linear friction welding(LFW) in this study. The microstructure and the mechanical properties of the LFWed joint were investigated by optical microscopy, scanning electronic microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, hardness test and tensile test. A defect-free joint was achieved by using LFW under reasonable welding parameters. The dynamic recrystallization of austenitic grains and the dispersed precipitation of NbCrN particles resulting from the high stress and high temperature in welding, would lead to a improvement of mechanical property of the welded joint.With increasing the distance from the weld zone to the parent metal, the austenitic grain size gradually increases from ~1μm to ~150μm, and the microhardness decreases from 301 HV to 225 HV. The tensile strength(about 731 MPa) of the welded joint is comparable to that of the S31042 in the solution-treated state.  相似文献

The effect of postweld heat treatment (PWHT) on the microstructure and mechanical properties of ITER-grade 316LN austenitic stainless steel joints with ER316LMn filler material was investigated. PWHT aging was performed for 1 h at four different temperatures of 600 °C, 760 °C, 870 °C and 920 °C, respectively. The microstructure revealed the sigma phase precipitation occurred in the weld metals heat-treated at the temperature of 870 °C and 920 °C. The PWHT temperatures have the less effect on the tensile strength, and the maximum tensile strength of the joints is about 630 MPa, reaching the 95% of the base metal, whereas the elongation is enhanced with the rise of PWHT temperatures. Meanwhile, the sigma phase precipitation in the weld metals reduces the impact toughness.  相似文献

In this work, a third generation Al-Li alloy has been successfully spot welded with probeless friction stir spot welding (P-FSSW), which is a variant of conventional friction stir welding. The Box-Behnken experimental design in response surface methodology (RSM) was applied to optimize the P-FSSW parameters to attain maximum tensile/shear strength of the spot joints. Results show that an optimal failure load of 7.83 kN was obtained under a dwell time of 7.2 s, rotation speed of 950 rpm and plunge rate of 30 mm/min. Sufficient dwell time is essential for heat conduction, material flow and expansion of the stir zone to form a sound joint. Two fracture modes were observed, which were significantly affected by hook defect. In addition to mechanical testing, electron backscattering diffraction (EBSD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) were used for microstructure evolution and property analysis. The precipitation of GP zone and Al3Li as well as the ultrafine grains were responsible for the high microhardness in the stir zone.  相似文献

The increasing use of aluminium alloys in transportation industry, such as railways, shipbuilding and aeronautics, promotes the development of more efficient and reliable welding processes. Friction stir welding (FSW) is a prominent solid-state joining technology that arose as a possible reliable welding solution. Optimized process parameters are not regularly used in previous studies found in the literature, in particular T-joints, which difficult the process industrial application. This study is focused on the optimization of friction stir welded T-joints using the Taguchi method. Mechanical tests of 27 different welded joints were carried out, and results were analysed using ANOVA, mean effect and response surface methodology (RSM). The tool rotational speed was verified to be the most influent factor in the joint mechanical properties, and is strongly dependent on the shoulder/probe diameters ratio. It was also shown that using 1000 rpm, 3.90 mm of probe depth and shoulder/probe diameters ratio of 2.5 (shoulder diameter of 15 mm) it may be achieved improved joint strength. For the optimized parameters it was verified that the welding speed does not have a significant influence. Equations to predict the joints mechanical properties were also derived through multiple regression.  相似文献
