Laminar mixing of shear thinning fluids in a SMX static mixer 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Flow and mixing of power-law fluids in a standard SMX static mixer were simulated using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Results showed that shear thinning reduces the ratio of pressure drop in the static mixer to pressure drop in empty tube as compared to Newtonian fluids. The correlations for pressure drop and friction factor were obtained at ReMR?100. The friction factor is a function of both Reynolds number and power-law index. A proper apparent strain rate, area-weighted average strain rate on the solid surface in mixing section, was proposed to calculate pressure drop for a non-Newtonian fluid. Particle tracking showed that shear thinning fluids exhibit better mixing quality, lower pressure drop and higher mixing efficiency as compared to a Newtonian fluid in the SMX static mixer. 相似文献

A Sulzer SMX mixer was used to disperse gas into viscous, Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids. The investigation covered the effect of the dispersed phase volume fraction, the viscosity of the continuous phase, the mixer length and the power draw. The flow regime was kept laminar in all the experiments. The dispersion of gas was carried out with gas concentrations between 1% and 7% in volume. Using the “process viscosity” concept, it was possible to collapse all the measured sizes on a single master curve by using the energy consumption in the mixer as the common variable between the experiments. Comparison was made with a Kenics mixer. The SMX mixer was found to be better adapted to the dispersion task due to its internal structure. 相似文献

An investigation of dependence of laminar mixing efficiency of a motionless mixer upon viscosity ratio at low Reynolds number (?3) was performed. Viscosity ratios up to 340 were investigated. The liquids were aqueous solutions of carboxymethylcellulose (CMC). Two transparent liquid streams, one marked with a fluorescing dye, were injected into a pipe housing five elements of an SMX mixer. The degree of mixing was evaluated by imaging a downstream cross‐section of pipe using laser induced fluorescence (LIF). Highly resolved spatial variations of fluorescence intensity were recorded using a CCD camera. Mathematical evaluations using correlograms, scale of segregation, COV, and intensity histograms are presented. 相似文献

在改进型Ross静态混合器中对牛顿流体的流动进行了实验研究,并对空管和5单元的改进型Ross静态混合器的流动进行了数值模拟,将实验与数值模拟结果进行了比较,证实二者的结果一致. 结果表明,在改进型Ross静态混合器中,牛顿流体流动的压力降与雷诺数和静态混合器长径比的关系为Dp=14.7231Re-0.156(L/D)0.446ru2/2;在Re=20000时,z因子有最大值;整个静态混合器的压力降(流动阻力)主要集中在混合单元区域. 相似文献

The mixing performance of the KMX and SMX static mixers have been compared using 3D high-resolution computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. Although these mixers have a similar design composed of layers of blades, their blade shape is different: curved for the KMX and flat for the SMX. The flow of a Newtonian fluid in steady laminar regime has been considered as the benchmark of the study. The simulation was first validated by assessing the pressure drop vs. the number of mixer elements and the results were found to be in good agreement with experimental data. To evaluate the mixing quality, cross-section stream function, extensional efficiency, mean shear rate, residence time, intensity of segregation, stretching, and Lyapunov exponent have been selected. Analysis of the flow pattern and mixing parameters shows differences between the mixers and it appears that the curved blade is more efficient than the flat blade design at the expense of a slightly higher pressure drop. This paper reviews the dispersion mechanisms in viscoelastic systems under relatively high shear rate conditions. In particular, two non‐Newtonian deformation and breakup mechanisms were revealed by flow visualization in a transparent Couette shearing setup. The first one is the dispersed droplet elongation perpendicular to the flow direction. This was observed only for viscoelastic drops and had been associated to normal force buildup in the droplet. The second deformation/breakup mechanism was observed in very high viscosity ratio polymer systems. It consists in erosion at the drop surface. Clouds of very small ribbons and sheets were developed around the drop then stretched and finally broken into very small droplets, rapidly distributed in the matrix. 相似文献

A contraction-expansion helical mixer which combines several features, viz. helical pipes for induction of secondary flows and sudden expansion and contraction array tor expansion vortices, has been designed to en- hance flow mixing. A fast competitive-consecutive diazo coupling reaction is used to test the mixing efficiency of contraction-expansion helical mixer. Furthermore, an image processing technique is applied for data visualization and monitoring the extent of mixing. The mixing performance is found to be superior in comparison to the regular helical mixer in the range of Reynolds number from 170 to 1540. Moreover, the mixing time of contraction-expansion helical mixer was found to be reduced by more than 25% compared to the regular helical pipe. Finally, a simple correlation is proposed for predicting the mixing time. 相似文献
