A system architecture based on the use of ISDN basic inputs is presented, suitable for over-distance educational programs (tele-teaching) in academic environments. Starting from a very encouraging tele-teaching experience-performed in the last four years at the University of l'Aquila-a medium term project for the improvement and extension of the present activities in the various sites where the University is geographically distributed has been performed. The proposed classrooms, offices and conference room architectures and allocations are described in the paper, together with the possible integration between terrestrial and satellite-based educational techniques. Emphasis is also given to the teaching procedures and the student response, which are of fundamental importance to provide effectiveness and future expansion to over-distance educational techniques  相似文献

The authors share their experience in teaching electrical engineering students the ethical, social, safety, and economic considerations in engineering practice. This paper describes the functionalities and some implementation details of software tools to assist and to improve the process of note taking by students during a traditional lecture. The software tools allow professors to interact effectively with the students during lectures and help students to take relevant notes. Exponent-rules are known to describe experimentally how the observables related to incandescent lamps alter with the change in the rated voltage. Pedagogical derivation of the rules for typical observables like the life, lumens, power, etc. in the case of vacuum bulbs is presented. This is achieved by assuming a steady-state operation of the bulb, parameterizing intrinsic properties of tungsten as suitable powers of temperature, and eliminating the temperature between those observables for which the exponent-rules are sought  相似文献

Classroom interactivity is a critical component of teaching and learning. This paper reports on the use of a classroom response system to enhance classroom interactivity in a systems analysis and design course. The success of the project was assessed using both quantitative and qualitative data. A pretest/posttest design was used to examine the effects of a classroom response system on interactivity. The results show that a classroom response system can significantly improve classroom interactivity. Qualitative data was also collected to identify the strengths and weaknesses of using a classroom response system to enhance classroom interaction. Based on the quantitative and qualitative results, suggestions and guidelines on using a classroom response system in the classroom settings are discussed.  相似文献

This paper shows the application and results of a computer-based approach to solicit student self- and peer assessment and multisource feedback on student learning outcomes linked to the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology's EC-2000. The issues addressed include the efficacy of student self and peer review, correlation with faculty grading, faculty and student acceptance, and process management. Results demonstrate that multisource feedback supports the development of specific student learning outcomes when used in conjunction with team-based projects  相似文献

This study explores how particular communication behaviors influence women's experience of the CS classroom in the United States. In particular, it investigates the correlation between students' perceived gender similarities with others in the CS discipline or homophily, their feelings about the closeness and openness of communication between people or immediacy, the resulting presence or absence of a supportive communication classroom climate, which is understood as a set of systemic entities whose presence and dimensionality may be inferred from students' and teachers' perceptions of psychosocial attributes of the classroom social system, and finally, their intention to remain in the CS program.  相似文献

Looking to increase the functionality of current wireless platforms and to improve their quality of service, we have explored the merits of using frequency-reconfigurable antennas as an alternative for multiband antennas. Our study included an analysis of various reconfigurable and multiband structures such as patches, wires, and combinations. Switches, such as radio-frequency microelectromechanical systems (RFMEMS) and p-i-n diodes, were also studied and directly incorporated onto antenna structures to successfully form frequency-reconfigurable antennas.  相似文献

介绍了MAS技术与JADE平台的相关概念,设计并开发了位于电力市场环境下的发电厂MAS报价系统,以单个发电厂的报价系统为研究对象,在JADE平台中实现了发电厂的多Agent报价原型系统.阐述了各Agent的构成、功能部署以及报价系统的协作机制,最后对多Agent的开发过程做了详细的说明,并对原型系统所得的报价结果做了简要的分析,给出了发电厂得出合理报价并安排发电计划的可行方案.结果表明多Agent协调工作实现了发电厂的报价需求,内部模拟竞价避免了报价的盲目性.  相似文献

With the progress of research on cluster computing, many universities have begun to offer various courses covering cluster computing. A wide variety of content can be taught in these courses. Because of this variation, a difficulty that arises is the selection of appropriate course material. The selection is complicated because some content in cluster computing may also be covered by other courses in the undergraduate curriculum, and the background of students enrolled in cluster computing courses varies. These aspects of cluster computing make the development of good course material difficult. Combining experiences in teaching cluster computing at universities in the United States and Australia, this paper presents prospective topics in cluster computing and a wide variety of information sources from which instructors can choose. The course material is described in relation to the knowledge units of the Joint IEEE Computer Society and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Computing Curricula 2001 and includes system architecture, parallel programming, algorithms, and applications. Instructors can select units in each of the topical areas and develop their own syllabi to meet course objectives. The authors share their experiences in teaching cluster computing and the topics chosen, depending on course objectives.  相似文献

Planar motion of wheeled moving platforms, on which a camera is installed to capture videos, is common in real‐world scenarios. For a general planar motion, Scaramuzza et al. proposed a linear one‐point model to recover motions from a video under a potential assumption that the camera needs to be placed somewhere between the rear wheels of a moving platform. However, the assumption is too restricted for researchers and manufacturers, because the camera is generally fixed either on the front top of vehicles for a broad view or near the left/right mirrors because of the requirement of mechanical design. In this paper, we focus on motion modeling of wheeled moving platforms without the restriction of cameras' location on a vehicle, and propose a quadratic motion model to circumvent the limitation. Newton's iterative method and bounded quadratic least squares are used to solve the quadratic optimization problem. We test our model on both the synthetic data and the real data, and conclude that the tradeoff between model error and computational error and that between performance and computational cost are the main concerns in the practice of visual odometry. © 2015 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.
