The dilution effects of CO2 and H2O on partially premixed swirling syngas flames are investigated with the large eddy simulation (LES) method. The linear-eddy model (LEM) is employed to directly resolve the unclosed molecular diffusion, scalar mixing and chemical reaction processes occurring at subgrid scale level using their specific length and time scales instead of modelling, which makes the LES-LEM approach quite attractive for hydrogen fuel combustion as the obviously different diffusion and reaction characteristics of H2 and H compared to other species in the syngas mixture. Firstly, adding CO2 into the fuel stream can significantly decrease the flame temperature during the partially premixed combustion. The concentration of H and OH radicals decreases upon CO2 dilution and thus the chemical reaction processes are modified. Compared with CO2, H2O is less effective in changing the temperature field because of the chemical effects of H2O. The simultaneous addition of H2O and CO2 as dilution gases with volume ratio 1:1 into the fuel stream is also conducted to identify the effects of H2O and CO2 on partially premixed combustion dynamics by comparing with single H2O and CO2 cases. The obtained results are expected to provide helpful information for the design and operation of gas turbine combustion systems with syngas fuels.  相似文献

In recent years, research efforts have been channeled to explore the use of environmentally-friendly clean fuel in lean-premixed combustion so that it is vital to understand fundamental knowledge of combustion and emissions characteristics for an advanced gas turbine combustor design. The current study investigates the extinction limits and emission formations of dry syngas (50% H2-50% CO), moist syngas (40% H2-40% CO-20% H2O), and impure syngas containing 5% CH4. A counterflow flame configuration was numerically investigated to understand extinction and emission characteristics at the lean-premixed combustion condition by varying dilution levels (N2, CO2 and H2O) at different pressures and syngas compositions. By increasing dilution and varying syngas composition and maintaining a constant strain rate in the flame, numerical simulation showed among diluents considered: CO2 diluted flame has the same extinction limit in moist syngas as in dry syngas but a higher extinction temperature; H2O presence in the fuel mixture decreases the extinction limit of N2 diluted flame but still increases the flame extinction temperature; impure syngas with CH4 extends the flame extinction limit but has no effect on flame temperature in CO2 diluted flame; for diluted moist syngas, extinction limit is increased at higher pressure with the larger extinction temperature; for different compositions of syngas, higher CO concentration leads to higher NO emission. This study enables to provide insight into reaction mechanisms involved in flame extinction and emission through the addition of diluents at ambient and high pressure.  相似文献

A novel gas turbine cycle with hydrogen-fueled chemical-looping combustion   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
In this paper we have proposed a novel gas turbine cycle with hydrogen-fueled chemical-looping combustion, and the system study on two hydrogen-fueled power plants, the new gas turbine cycle and an advanced gas turbine cycle with H2/O2 combustion, has been investigated with the aid of exergy principle (EUD methodology). The hydrogen fueled chemical-looping combustion in the new gas turbine cycle consists of two successive reactions: hydrogen fuel is reacted with metal oxide (reduction of metal oxide), and then instead of air or pure oxygen, the reduced metal is successively oxidized by the saturated air. As a result, the new hydrogen-fueled gas turbine cycle has a breakthrough performance, with at least about 12 percentage-point higher efficiency compared to the gas turbine cycle with H2/O2 combustion, and will be environmentally superior due to complete elimination of NOx formation. The promising results obtained here indicated that this novel gas turbine cycle with hydrogen-fueled chemical looping combustion could make a breakthrough in efficient use of hydrogen energy in power plants.  相似文献

Flame characteristics of swirling non-premixed H2/CO syngas fuel mixtures have been simulated using large eddy simulation and detailed chemistry. The selected combustor configuration is the TECFLAM burner which has been used for extensive experimental investigations for natural gas combustion. The large eddy simulation (LES) solves the governing equations on a structured Cartesian grid using a finite volume method, with turbulence and combustion modelling based on the localised dynamic Smagorinsky model and the steady laminar flamelet model respectively. The predictions for H2-rich and CO-rich flames show considerable differences between them for velocity and scalar fields and this demonstrates the effects of fuel variability on the flame characteristics in swirling environment. In general, the higher diffusivity of hydrogen in H2-rich fuel is largely responsible for forming a much thicker flame with a larger vortex breakdown bubble (VBB) in a swirling flame compare to the H2-lean but CO-rich syngas flames.  相似文献

The paper reports on the results of an experimental study of methane and syngas combustion as well as their co-firing in a bidirectional swirling flow. The results confirmed that the bidirectional flow structure provides a significant decrease in the lean blow-off equivalence ratio as well as that of emissions of main pollutants. The combustion intensification becomes more evident when using syngas is as fuel. The composition of the used syngas is as follows (by volume): H2 - 29.42%; CO - 14.32%; CH4 - 3.8%; N2 - 49.11%; H2O - 3.35%. In this case, the lean blow-off is achieved at ? < 0.1, NOx emission is halved, while CxHy and CO emissions become 20 times less compared to pure methane combustion. However, according to experimental results, the co-combustion of syngas (volume fraction Vsyn = 15%) and methane is the most appropriate fuel utilization mode. It provides blow-off and emission properties similar to those for combustion of pure syngas, whereas energy consumption for its production is much lower. Moreover, unlike hydrocarbon fuel combustion, that of syngas in a bidirectional swirling flow is characterized by the presence of density stratification. This is accompanied by the flame formation at significantly different locations in the combustion chamber at lean and “ultra-lean” modes of operation. Hydrogen combustion most likely to occur in the core region at near-blow-off modes ? < 0.1, whereas normal ‘operating modes in the range 0.2 = ? ≤ 0.4 result in the formation of a conical flame surface where CH4 and CO combustion occurs. These new results with respect to the flame structure as well as blow-off and emission properties make it possible to consider bidirectional vortex combustors for application in modern gas turbine power plants in order to meet the strict environmental and energy requirements.  相似文献

This paper investigates the energetic and environmental performance of micro gas turbine plant with two proposed concurrent improvements: the methane-based fuel enriched by hydrogen and the humidification of the plant cycle. The energetic and environmental benefits of both features are well-know, and the aim of this work is the analysis of their combined impact on the micro gas turbine operation. Despite enhancing fuel with H2 involves significant advantages like greenhouse emission reduction and a better combustion in case of low LHV fuels, most of commercial micro gas turbine combustors are not able to burn fuels with high hydrogen content unless structurally modified. On the contrary, has been demonstrated that humidified gas turbines (i.e., gas turbines with water injection, humid air turbine (HAT) and steam injection gas turbine (STIG) cycles) improve the combustion stability as well as electric power delivered and plant efficiency. Hence, in order to investigate the feasibility of the concurrent two features, the first step of this work was the thermodynamic analysis of a micro gas turbine supplied by methane-based fuels enriched with H2 up to 20%vol, considering both dry and humidified cycles. Since a combustion anomaly was detected, i.e., flashback, in the CFD study on the combustion chamber, a steam injection in the combustor has been added in the plant layout with the aim of overcoming the anomaly, and its effect on the combustion process has been analyzed also raising the hydrogen content up to 30%vol. The main outcome of this paper is the assessment of the feasibility of supplying the combustor of the proposed HGT-STIG micro gas turbine with a hydrogen enrichment up to 30%vol, achieving a safe and regular combustion mainly owing to a steam injection mass flow equal up to 125% of fuel flow.  相似文献

In this work it is analyzed the performance of an iron waste material as oxygen carrier for a chemical-looping combustion (CLC) system. CLC is a novel combustion technology with the benefit of inherent CO2 separation that can be used as a source of energy for the methane steam reforming process (SR). The tail gas from the PSA unit is used as fuel in the CLC system.The oxygen carrier behaviour with respect to gas combustion was evaluated in a continuous 500 Wth CLC prototype using a simulated PSA off-gas stream as fuel. Methane or syngas as fuel were also studied for comparison purposes. The oxygen carrier showed enough high oxygen transport capacity and reactivity to fully convert syngas at 880 °C. However, lower conversion of the fuel was observed with methane containing fuels. An estimated solids inventory of 1600 kg MWth−1 would be necessary to fully convert the PSA off-gas to CO2 and H2O. An important positive effect of the oxygen carrier-to-fuel ratio up to 1.5 and the reactor temperature on the combustion efficiency was found.A characterization of the calcined and after-used particles was carried out showing that this iron-based material can be used as oxygen carrier in a CLC plant since particles maintain their properties (reactivity, no agglomeration, high durability, etc.) after more than 111 h of continuous operation.  相似文献

Most modern high-power wind turbines are horizontal axis type with straight twisted blades. Upgrading power and performance of these turbines is considered a challenge. A recent trend towards improving the horizontal axis wind turbine (HAWT) performance is to use swept blades or sweep twist adaptive blades. In the present work, the effect of blade curvature, sweep starting point and sweep direction on the wind turbine performance was investigated. The CFD simulation method was validated against available experimental data of a 0.9?m diameter HAWT. The wind turbine power and thrust coefficients at different tip speed ratios were calculated. Flow field, pressure distribution and local tangential and streamwise forces were also analysed. The results show that the downstream swept blade has the highest Cp value at design point as compared with the straight blade profile. However, the improvement in power coefficient is accompanied by a thrust increase. Results also show that the best performance is obtained when the starting blade sweeps at 25% of blade radius for different directions of sweep.  相似文献

This paper reports on a numerical study of the thermodynamic and basic combustion characteristics of oxy-fuel combustion in gas turbine related conditions using detailed chemical kinetic and thermodynamic calculations. The oxy-fuels considered are mixtures of CH4, O2, CO2 and H2O, representing natural gas combustion under nitrogen free gas turbine conditions. The GRI Mech 3.0 chemical kinetic mechanism, consisting of 53 species and 325 reactions, is used in the chemical kinetic calculations. Two mixing conditions in the combustion chambers are considered; a high intensity turbulence mixing condition where the combustion chamber is assumed to be a well-stirred reactor, and a typical non-premixed flame condition where chemical reactions occur in thin flamelets. The required residence time in the well-stirred reactor for the oxidation of fuels is simulated and compared with typical gas turbine operation. The flame temperature and extinction conditions are determined for non-premixed flames under various oxidizer inlet temperature and oxidizer compositions. It is shown that most oxy-fuel combustion conditions may not be feasible if the fuel, oxygen and diluent are not supplied properly to the combustors. The numerical calculations suggest that for oxy-fuel combustion there is a range of oxygen/diluent ratio within which the flames can be not only stable, but also with low remaining oxygen and low emission of unburned intermediates in the flue gas.  相似文献

Two novel system configurations were proposed for oxy-fuel natural gas turbine systems with integrated steam reforming and CO2 capture and separation. The steam reforming heat is obtained from the available turbine exhaust heat, and the produced syngas is used as fuel with oxygen as the oxidizer. Internal combustion is used, which allows a very high heat input temperature. Moreover, the turbine working fluid can expand down to a vacuum, producing an overall high-pressure ratio. Particular attention was focused on the integration of the turbine exhaust heat recovery with both reforming and steam generation processes, in ways that reduce the heat transfer-related exergy destruction. The systems were thermodynamically simulated, predicting a net energy efficiency of 50–52% (with consideration of the energy needed for oxygen separation), which is higher than the Graz cycle energy efficiency by more than 2 percentage points. The improvement is attributed primarily to a decrease of the exergy change in the combustion and steam generation processes that these novel systems offer. The systems can attain a nearly 100% CO2 capture.  相似文献

Supplementary firing is adopted in combined‐cycle power plants to reheat low‐temperature gas turbine exhaust before entering into the heat recovery steam generator. In an effort to identify suitable supplementary firing options in an integrated gasification combined‐cycle (IGCC) power plant configuration, so as to use coal effectively, the performance is compared for three different supplementary firing options. The comparison identifies the better of the supplementary firing options based on higher efficiency and work output per unit mass of coal and lower CO2 emissions. The three supplementary firing options with the corresponding fuel used for the supplementary firing are: (i) partial gasification with char, (ii) full gasification with coal and (iii) full gasification with syngas. The performance of the IGCC system with these three options is compared with an option of the IGCC system without supplementary firing. Each supplementary firing option also involves pre‐heating of the air entering the gas turbine combustion chamber in the gas cycle and reheating of the low‐pressure steam in the steam cycle. The effects on coal consumption and CO2 emissions are analysed by varying the operating conditions such as pressure ratio, gas turbine inlet temperature, air pre‐heat and supplementary firing temperature. The results indicate that more work output is produced per unit mass of coal when there is no supplementary firing. Among the supplementary firing options, the full gasification with syngas option produces the highest work output per unit mass of coal, and the partial gasification with char option emits the lowest amount of CO2 per unit mass of coal. Based on the analysis, the most advantageous option for low specific coal consumption and CO2 emissions is the supplementary firing case having full gasification with syngas as the fuel. Two relatively innovative gas turbine (GT) based power cycles with high CO2 removal potential have been proposed and discussed in terms of exergy analysis. Fuel decarbonisation is applied by the means of auto thermal reforming (R-ATR) and simple reforming (R-REF), in order to convert the primary natural gas into a highly H2 and CO2 concentrated fuel. Thus, CO2 is captured with amine chemical absorption into a specific unit and, finally, the decarbonised fuel is sent to the GT combustion chamber. No bottoming steam cycle is included, which should promote the size flexibility of the powerplant. The heat content of GT exhausts is employed partially to sustain the endothermic reforming reactions and partially for cycle recuperation. Moreover, the possibility of steam blade cooling has been investigated.The efficiency is optimised at low pressure ratios (7–10) in the steam cooled R-ATR, whereas higher values have been found in air cooled version (16–17). Generally, the R-ATR solution shows higher efficiency levels, mainly due to the reduced combustion chamber and CO2 capture exergy destruction and higher cycle recuperation degree.The exergy analysis showed a relatively limited influence of combustion chamber losses on the primary fuel exergy input (20–23%). The relative loss of CO2 removal unit is limited as well (5–7%) when compared with values of semi-closed GT configurations. The exergy destruction of R-ATR and R-REF CO2 removal sections is greatly reduced if steam blade cooling is adopted. Generally, all the proposed cycles showed satisfactory values of efficiency (43–46% under optimised conditions) taking into account that they do not involve combined power plants.  相似文献

Turbulent nonpremixed H2/N2 and H2/CO syngas flames were simulated using 3D large eddy simulations coupled with a laminar flamelet combustion model. Four different syngas fuel mixtures varying from H2-rich to CO-rich including N2 have been modelled. The computations solved the Large Eddy Simulation governing equations on a structured non-uniform Cartesian grid using the finite volume method, where the Smagorinsky eddy viscosity model with the localised dynamic procedure is used to model the sub-grid scale turbulence. Non-premixed combustion has been incorporated using the steady laminar flamelet model. Both instantaneous and time-averaged quantities are analysed and data were also compared to experimental data for one of the four H2-rich flames. Results show significant differences in both unsteady and steady flame temperature and major combustion products depending on the ratio of H2/N2 and H2/CO in syngas fuel mixture.  相似文献

The guiding idea behind oxy-fuel combustion power cycles is guaranteeing a high level of performance as can be obtained by today's advanced power plants, together with CO2 separation in conditions ready for transport and final disposal. In order to achieve all these goals, oxy-combustion – allowing CO2 separation by simple cooling of the combustion products – is combined with large heat recovery and staged expansions/compressions, making use of new components, technology and materials upgraded from modern gas turbine engines. In order to provide realistic results, the power plant performance should include the effects of blade cooling. In the present work an advanced cooled expansion model has been included in the model of the MATIANT cycle in order to assess the effects of blade cooling on the cycle efficiency. The results show that the penalty in efficiency due to blade cooling using steam from the heat recovery boiler is about 1.4 percentage points, mainly due to the reheat of the steam, which, on the other hand, leads to an improvement in specific work of about 6%.  相似文献

This study presents a three-dimensional numerical model that simulates the H2 production from coal-derived syngas via a water-gas shift reaction in membrane reactors. The reactor was operated at a temperature of 900 °C, the typical syngas temperature at gasifier exit. The effects of membrane permeance, syngas composition, reactant residence time, sweep gas flow rate and steam-to-carbon (S/C) ratio on reactor performance were examined. Using CO conversion and H2 recovery to characterize the reactor performance, it was found that the reactor performance can be enhanced using higher sweep gas flow rate, membrane permeance and S/C ratio. However, CO conversion and H2 recovery limiting values were found when these parameters were further increased. The numerical results also indicated that the reactor performance degraded with increasing CO2 content in the syngas composition.  相似文献

This paper reports a numerical study on the combustion and extinction characteristics of opposed-jet syngas diffusion flames. A model of one-dimensional counterflow syngas diffusion flames was constructed with constant strain rate formulations, which used detailed chemical kinetics and thermal and transport properties with flame radiation calculated by statistic narrowband radiation model. Detailed flame structures, species production rates and net reaction rates of key chemical reaction steps were analyzed. The effects of syngas compositions, dilution gases and pressures on the flame structures and extinction limits of H2/CO synthetic mixture flames were discussed. Results indicate the flame structures and flame extinction are impacted by the compositions of syngas mixture significantly. From H2-enriched syngas to CO-enriched syngas fuels, the dominant chain reactions are shifting from OH + H2→H + H2O for H2O production to OH + CO→H + CO2 for CO2 production through the key chain-branching reaction of H + O2→O + OH. Flame temperature increases with increasing hydrogen content and pressure, but the flame thickness is decreased with pressure. Besides, the study of the dilution effects from CO2, N2, and H2O, showed the maximum flame temperature is decreased the most with CO2 as the dilution gas, while CO-enriched syngas flames with H2O dilution has highest maximum flame temperature when extinction occurs due to the competitions of chemical effect and radiation effect. Finally, extinction limits were obtained with minimum hydrogen percentage as the index at different pressures, which provides a fundamental understanding of syngas combustion and applications.  相似文献

A novel solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC)/gas turbine (GT) hybrid cycle system with CO2 capture is proposed based on a typical topping cycle SOFC/GT hybrid system. The H2 gas is separated from the outlet mixture gas of SOFC1 anode by employing the advanced ceramic proton membrane technology, and then, it is injected into SOFC2 to continue a new electrochemical reaction. The outlet gas of SOFC1 cathode and the exhaust gas from SOFC2 burn in the afterburner 1. The combustion gas production of the afterburner1 expands in the turbine 1. The outlet gas of SOFC1 anode employs the oxy‐fuel combustion mode in the afterburner 2 after H2 gas is separated. Then, the combustion gas production expands in the turbine 2. To ensure that the flue gas temperature does not exceed the maximum allowed turbine inlet temperature, steam is injected into the afterburner 2. The outlet gas of the afterburner 2 contains all the CO2 gas of the system. When the steam is removed by condensation, the CO2 gas can be captured. The steam generated by the waste heat boiler is used to drive a refrigerator and make CO2 gas liquefied at a lower temperature. The performance of the novel quasi‐zero CO2 emission SOFC/GT hybrid cycle system is analyzed with a case study. The effects of key parameters, such as CO2 liquefaction temperature, hydrogen separation rate, and the unit oxygen production energy consumption on the new system performance, are investigated. Compared with the other quasi‐zero CO2 emission power systems, the new system has the highest efficiency of around 64.13%. Numerical study is conducted to understand the impact of fuel composition and flame radiation in flame structure and their oxidation process in H2/CO synthetic gas diffusion flame with and without CO2 dilution. The models of Sun et al. and David et al., which have been well known to be best-fitted for H2/CO synthetic mixture flames, are evaluated for H2/CO synthetic mixture flames diluted with CO2. Effects of radiative heat loss to flame characteristics are also examined in terms of syngas mixture composition. Importantly contributing reaction steps to heat release rate are compared for the synthetic gas mixture flames of high contents of H2 and CO, individually, with and without CO2 dilution. The modification of the oxidation pathways is also addressed.  相似文献
