In this work, polyetheretherketone (PEEK) and PEEK/SiC-composite coatings were deposited on Al substrates using a printing technique to improve their surfaces performance. The objective of this work was to investigate coatings friction and wear behaviour. Especially, the effect of sliding velocity and applied load on coatings friction coefficient and wear rate was evaluated in range of 0.2-1.4 m/s and 1-9 N, respectively. Compared to Al substrate, the coated samples exhibit excellent friction coefficient and wear rate. For PEEK coating, under an applied load of 1 N, the increase in sliding velocity can result in decreasing of friction coefficient at a cost of wear resistance. Under a load of 9 N, however, PEEK coating exhibits the highest friction coefficient and wear rate at an intermediate velocity. These influences appear to be mainly ascribed to the influence of contact temperature of the two relative sliding parts. In most test conditions, the composite coating exhibits better wear resistance and a little higher friction coefficient. SiC reinforcement in composite coating plays a combined role. First of all, it might lead to energy dissipation for activation of fracture occurred on the interface of PEEK and the powders. Moreover, it can reduce coating ploughs and the adhesion between the two relative sliding parts.  相似文献

Grinding is a finishing process largely used in motor industry, aeronautics, space industry and precision cutting tool manufacturers. The grinding process can be summarized by the action of a grinding wheel on a workpiece. The wheel is constituted by abrasive grains. Thus grinding is in fact the action of grains on the workpiece. The grain behavior changes according to numerous parameters (geometry, mechanical characteristics, wear mechanisms). In some cases abrasive wear is observed while micro-cutting is obtained in some other cases.In this paper two useful and complementary experimental approaches for the interface physics understanding is presented. The study of the cutting power is carried out using a high-speed scratch test device in order to understand the grain behavior and the wear mechanisms for several wheel surface speeds. In this paper an approach for the specific abrasion energy computation is also presented.  相似文献

Abstract

Electrodeposition of nickel–boron nitride–boron carbide (Ni–BN–B4C) composites was carried out from a Watt's solution containing 50 and 10?g L of dispersed boron nitride and boron carbide particles respectively. The corrosion behaviour for both Ni and Ni–BN–B4C deposits was evaluated by polarisation curves in a 3·5% NaCl solution at room temperature. Wear resistance of the composites was also studied using pin on disc technique. Scanning electron microscopy was extensively used to understand the effect of different electroplating conditions on the concentration and distribution of particles. The results showed that BN and B4C particle concentration in the Ni–BN–B4C composite film was sensitively dependent on the electroplating current density and bath temperature. Meanwhile, the Ni–BN–B4C composite films were much more resistant to corrosion and wear than pure Ni coatings.  相似文献

Effect of tool wear on delamination in drilling composite materials   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
Among all machining operations, drilling using twist drill is the most frequently applied for secondary machining of composite materials owing to the need for structure joining. Delamination is mostly considered as the principal failure model in drilling of composite materials. Drill wear is a serious concern in hole-making industry, as it is necessary to prevent damage of cutting tools, machine tools and workpieces. The industrial experience shows the worn drill causes more delamination. This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of delamination caused by the drill wear for twist drill in drilling carbon fiber-reinforced composite materials. The critical thrust force at the onset of delamination for worn drill is predicted and compared with that of ideal drill. The experimental results demonstrate that though the critical thrust force is higher with increasing wear ratio, the delamination becomes more liable to occur because the actual thrust force increases to larger extent, as the thrust factor (Z) illustrates. Compared to sharp drill, the worn twist drill allows for lower feed rate below which the delamination damage can be avoided.  相似文献

To obtain a composite coating possessing both good conductivity and high wear resistance, a series of coatings with conductive graphite and epoxy resin were designed. The seepage critical value (SCV) of conductive coatings was used to identify the transformation between continuous phase and dispersed phase for graphite/epoxy composite coatings. Before SCV, the coatings were insulated with epoxy resin as continuous phase and the wear behavior was primarily characterized of adhesive wear with local adhesive spalling of epoxy resin. After SCV, the coatings appeared conductivity and the surface resistance decreased monotonically with the increase of graphite content. Both the curves of friction coefficient vs. graphite content and wear rate vs. graphite content showed the same model with two valleys at graphite content of 30% and 50%, respectively. At graphite content of 50%, an optimal solid lubricant film was obtained which leaded to the lowest friction coefficient and wear rate, due to a possible dynamic equilibrium between the transfer and spalling of debris. The tribological behaviors of these coatings were evaluated using a ring-on-block tribo-tester under dry sliding friction.  相似文献

Wear behaviours of aluminum silicon alloy and Al-Si/graphite composite were investigated at ambient and elevated temperatures. The trend showed a decrease in wear rate with increase in temperature. The reduction in wear rate was mainly attributed to the formation of glazing layer and oxide layer at higher temperature. This was invariably observed in alloy and composites. In addition, the presence of graphite in composite offered better wear resistance for all temperatures under consideration. The wear due to oxidation was predominant during high temperature sliding.  相似文献

In the present study, the sliding wear resistances of ZrN and (Zr, 12 wt% Hf)N coatings deposited on a hardened AISI D2 tool steel by arc-physical vapor deposition (PVD) technique were examined by a ball-on-disc wear tester. Alloying of ZrN coating with 12 wt% Hf did not change the hardness significantly, but achieved an improvement on adhesion strength and dry sliding wear resistance against steel (AISI 52100-55HRC) and Al2O3 balls.  相似文献

Using a pin-on-disk tribometer, dry friction and wear properties at different temperatures were investigated for reaction-sintered silicon carbide Si/SiC and its composites with nickel Si/SiC-Ni. The friction and wear properties of the composites are improved by the addition of nickel. The analysis on the worn surfaces and sub-surfaces by SEM suggest that shallow grooves are the main wear feature at 15°C. At 600°C, surface cracking and fracture is the predominating wear mechanism for Si/SiC, and the formation of flake pits on the surface due to crack propagation at subsurface is the main wear mechanism for Si/SiC-Ni. Finally the relationships between wear resistance and mechanical properties are discussed.  相似文献

Friction and wear behavior of electroless Ni-based CNT composite coatings   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Ni-based carbon nanotube (CNT) composite coatings with different volume fraction (from 5 to 12 vol.%) of CNTs were deposited on medium carbon steel substrates by electroless plating. The friction and wear behavior of the composite coatings were investigated using a pin-on-disk wear tester under unlubricated condition. Friction and wear tests were conducted at a sliding speed of 0.0623 m s−1 and at an applied load of 20 N. The experimental results indicated that the friction coefficient of the composite coatings decreased with increasing the volume fraction of CNTs due to self-lubrication and unique topological structure of CNTs. Within the range of volume fraction of CNTs from 0 to 11.2%, the wear rate of the composite coatings showed a steadily decreasing trend with increasing volume fraction of CNTs. Because of the conglomeration of CNTs in the matrix, however, the wear rate of the composite coatings increased with further increasing the volume fraction of CNTs.  相似文献

Metakaolinite-based geopolymer composite containing 5-30% (volume fraction) polytetra-fluoroethylene (PTFE) was synthesized using compound activator composed of aqueous NaOH and sodium silicate at room temperature. Flexural strength, compressive strength and elastic modulus of the composite were measured. Tribological behaviour of the composite sliding against AISI-1045 steel was investigated on an MM-200 friction and wear tester. SEM, EDS and XPS analysis were conducted on worn surfaces and wear debris. The results show that mechanical strength of the composite was lower than corresponding geopolymer while the wear model became mild. The friction process was stable and the wear rate was dramatically reducted by 86-99.4%. The improvement of tribological properties of the composite was attributed to form a brown soft thin layer on the worn surface of the composite containing Fe2O3 came from tribochemical reaction. EDS analysis on the worn surfaces indicate the content of Fe increase along with the increase of volume content of PTFE in the composite. Furthermore, the counterpart, the steel ring was also protected from terrible wear as occurred when friction with geopolymer without any filling of solid lubricant. There is a brown thin layer mainly composed of Fe2O3 on the steel ring.  相似文献

Dry sliding wear tests of H13 and H21 steels were performed at 400 °C. The wear mechanisms and their transitions were studied, and an oxidative delamination wear was suggested. A mild oxidative wear prevailed with oxide fatigue delamination under less than 3.54 MPa. Under 3.54-5.31 MPa, the oxidative wear prevailed with oxide fatigue delamination and the oxidative delamination wear. As the pressure surpassed 5.31 MPa, a severe wear prevailed with the oxidative delamination wear and the plastic extrusion. The oxidative delamination wear meant that the delamination occurred inside the matrix underneath tribo-oxides with long-ditch delamination and belt-like wear debris.  相似文献

Two-body free-abrasive wear behavior of polyethylene (PE) coatings, nylon1010 (PA1010) coatings, polyurethane (PU) coatings, and expoxy (EP) coatings was investigated. Abrasive wear tests were performed on a turnplate abrasive wear test machine JMM. Hardened and low-temperature tempered steel 45 was used as a reference material. The results shown that in abrasive wear resistance, the PU coatings are approximately 120%, about 5 times larger than the PE coatings and 3 times larger than the PA1010 coatings and the EP coatings, the EP coatings and the PA1010 coatings approach to 40%, and the PE coatings about 20% compared with the reference material (steel 45). Of all the tested polymer coatings, the PU coatings are the best, the PE coatings the worst, and the PA1010 coatings and the EP coatings intermediate. Wear morphologies of the polymer coatings were observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM). Main wear mechanisms of the tested polymer coatings include ploughing wear for the PE coatings and the PA1010 coatings, fatigue wear for the PU coatings and fatigue fracture as well as some brittle fracture and somewhat ploughing wear for the EP coatings.  相似文献

Alumina/aluminum based composites with excellent physical and mechanical properties offer great potential for lightweight, wear resistant, and high temperature applications. The objective of the present research was to investigate a suitable coating material to provide a low coefficient of friction (COF) during sliding contact. The friction behavior of carbon nanofiber-reinforced aerospace polymer coatings prepared by the spin coating technique were investigated. Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), bis A polycarbonate, and two biphenyl endcapped poly(arylene ether phosphine oxide) compositions, namely BPETPP-E and 6FETPP-E, were used as the matrices. Pin-on-disc experiments were performed between 440C stainless steel balls and disc samples of coated alumina/aluminum interpenetrating phase composites at 0.2 m/s sliding velocity, in air, at room temperature under 0.25 and 0.74 N normal load. In all cases, formation of a lubricious carbon layer and its transfer to the steel counterface was observed to result in lower COF (∼0.2–0.3). Higher levels of fiber content (40 and 60 wt.% fibers) contributed to a faster formation of this layer. Wear scar analysis showed the dual roles of the carbon nanofibers, serving as solid lubricants and as reinforcement in the coatings. The amount of debris generated and the coverage of the lubricious carbon-rich film on the scar surface was dependent on the matrix material used. Adherent and uniform coverage of a lubricious carbon-rich film at the wear contact with the least amount of debris fragments was obtained only for composite coatings using BPETPP-E and 6FETPP-E matrices.  相似文献

The friction and casing wear properties of PCD reinforced WC matrix composites were investigated using a cylinder-on-ring wear-testing machine against N80 casing steel counterface under dry sliding conditions. The results indicate that the friction and casing wear rate of PCD reinforced WC matrix composites are the lowest among the materials. As the applied load and sliding speed steadily increase, the friction coefficients of PCD reinforced WC matrix composites decrease. In addition, the casing wear rates increase with increasing load, but decline with sliding velocity. The dominant wear mechanism of the PCD composite is the micro-cutting wear, accompanied by adhesive wear.  相似文献

Ti-6Al-4V alloy rubbing against aluminum-bronze 630 was evaluated in this work. High velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) WC-10%Co-4%Cr thermal sprayed and TiN, CrN and DLC physical vapor deposition (PVD) coatings were applied to increase titanium substrate wear resistance. Pin-on-disk tests were performed with a normal force of 5 N and at a speed of 0.5 m/s, with a quantitative comparison between the five conditions studied. Results showed higher wear resistance for Ti-6Al-4V alloy DLC coated and aluminum-bronze 630 tribological pair and that the presence of graphite carbon structure acting as solid lubricant was the main wear preventing mechanism.  相似文献

In this work, a bronze matrix (90 wt% Cu + 10 wt% Sn) was reinforced with SiC and graphite particulates using mechanical alloying and a subsequent current sintering technique. The mechanically ball-milled bronze hybrid matrix composite powders reinforced with 5.0 wt% SiC and 5.0 wt% graphite were cold-compacted on a 1040 steel substrate under a pressure of 300 MPa. The compacted structure was sintered at atmospheric conditions to nearly a full density within 10 min using current sintering, in which the powders were heated by a low voltage and high current and compressed simultaneously. The samples were sintered at three different applied currents (1,500, 1,700, and 1,900 A) to provide dense and well-bonded coatings on steel substrates. Microhardness testing and optical and scanning electron microscopes (SEM) were used for microstructural characterization of the hybrid composites. The tribological characterization of the resulting composites was tested by a block-on-disk method for determination of the wear loss and friction coefficient behaviors against a steel disk. It was pointed out that increasing applied current during the sintering/coating process resulted in obtaining high-hardness and wear-resistant hybrid composite coatings.  相似文献

A method is presented which enables a micro-scale abrasion test to be used to measure the wear performance of a coating over a small region, typically of millimetre dimensions, on a curved surface. The method is also applicable to studies of the wear resistance of any bulk material with a surface having complex curvature. The technique is illustrated by measurement of the intrinsic abrasion resistance of thin PVD coatings of TiZrN, ZrNbN and TiNbN on both flat and cylindrical tool steel and flat stainless steel substrates. The ability to measure the wear resistance of both a coating and its substrate, independently of each other and by a single test, is confirmed by experiment.  相似文献

In the present study, the effect of granite reinforcement on the dry sliding wear behaviour of an aluminium–silicon alloy (BS:LM6) was investigated using a pin-on-disc machine. The composite was prepared using liquid metallurgy technique wherein 10 wt.% granite particles were incorporated in the matrix alloy. Sliding wear tests were conducted at applied loads in the range 0.2–1.6 MPa and speeds of 1.89, 3.96 and 5.55 m/s. The matrix alloy was also prepared and tested under identical conditions in order to see the influence of the dispersoid phase on wear behaviour. It was observed that the composite exhibited lower wear rate than that of the matrix alloy. Increasing applied load increased the wear rate. In the case of the composite, the wear rate decreased with speed except at higher pressures at the maximum speed; the trend reversed in the latter case. On the contrary, the matrix alloy exhibited minimum wear rate at the intermediate test speed. Seizure pressure of the composite was significantly higher than that of the matrix alloy, while temperature rise near the contacting surfaces and the coefficient of friction followed an opposite trend. SEM examination of the worn surfaces, subsurface regions and debris enabled to understand the operating wear mechanisms.  相似文献

A WC-17Co coating was deposited onto ST37 mild steel substrate using HVOF spray technique and then heat treated at different temperatures in a vacuum chamber. The coatings were then evaluated in the as sprayed and heat treated conditions. Inspections by SEM and phase analysis by XRD indicated that some brittle eta (η) phases were produced at high temperature heat treatments. Generation of these phases increased the coating's hardness and decreased fracture toughness of the coating. Tribological properties were studied under dry condition by using pin on disc machine and diamond metal matrix composite disc as counterface. Wear test results showed that as sprayed deposit had the best wear resistance and its wear mechanism was sharp cutting abrasion. The weight loss in heat treated samples increased by increasing heat treatment temperature and the wear mechanisms gradually changed from cutting to gouging abrasion.  相似文献
