The rational use of energy became a priority for all industries in Brazil after the energetic rationing in 2001. The aim of this work is to assess a proposal of a power generation system for Companhia Siderúrgica Tubarão, a steel mill plant. The current system is based on a regenerative Rankine cycle using two gases from steel production—blast furnace gas (BFG) and coke oven gas (COG)—to generate electric power and occasionally steam for the process. The proposed system is a combined cycle comprising two gas turbines, two heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), and a steam turbine. The fuel for the gas turbines is BFG, and the supplementary firing of HRSG uses COG. The proposed HRSGs work at three pressure levels. The system was assessed by means of two thermoeconomic methodologies, Theory of Exergetic Cost and Thermoeconomic Functional Analysis; exergetic and monetary costs of power production were calculated and compared to the respective values of the current system.  相似文献

This article deals with comparative energy and exergetic analysis for evaluation of natural gas fired combined cycle power plant and solar concentrator aided (feed water heating and low pressure steam generation options) natural gas fired combined cycle power plant. Heat Transfer analysis of Linear Fresnel reflecting solar concentrator (LFRSC) is used to predict the effect of focal distance and width of reflector upon the reflecting surface area. Performance analysis of LFRSC with energetic and exergetic methods and the effect, of concentration ratio and inlet temperature of the fluid is carried out to determine, overall heat loss coefficient of the circular evacuated tube absorber at different receiver temperatures. An instantaneous increase in power generation capacity of about 10% is observed by substituting solar thermal energy for feed water heater and low pressure steam generation. It is observed that the utilization of solar energy for feed water heating and low pressure steam generation is more effective based on exergetic analysis rather than energetic analysis. Furthermore, for a solar aided feed water heating and low pressure steam generation, it is found that the land area requirement is 7 ha/MW for large scale solar thermal storage system to run the plant for 24 h.  相似文献

This paper presents the engineering design and theoretical exergetic analyses of the plant for combustion gas turbine based power generation systems. Exergy analysis is performed based on the first and second laws of thermodynamics for power generation systems. The results show the exergy analyses for a steam cycle system predict the plant efficiency more precisely. The plant efficiency for partial load operation is lower than full load operation. Increasing the pinch points will decrease the combined cycle plant efficiency. The engineering design is based on inlet air-cooling and natural gas preheating for increasing the net power output and efficiency. To evaluate the energy utilization, one combined cycle unit and one cogeneration system, consisting of gas turbine generators, heat recovery steam generators, one steam turbine generator with steam extracted for process have been analyzed. The analytical results are used for engineering design and component selection.  相似文献

Cogeneration is usual practice in sugar-cane mills. In this work, thermoeconomic analysis is applied to the cogeneration system of a typical Cuban sugar-cane mill. Two different cost attribution methods, the extraction method and the equality method are used to evaluate the exergetic and monetary (operational) costs of each flux within the system, especially the steam and generated power. The methodology indicates the equipment responsible for the greatest irreversibility and for the increase in the costs of the products of the system.  相似文献

In life cycle assessment (LCA) of solar PV systems, energy pay back time (EPBT) is the commonly used indicator to justify its primary energy use. However, EPBT is a function of competing energy sources with which electricity from solar PV is compared, and amount of electricity generated from the solar PV system which varies with local irradiation and ambient conditions. Therefore, it is more appropriate to use site-specific EPBT for major decision-making in power generation planning. LCA and life cycle cost analysis are performed for a distributed 2.7 kWp grid-connected mono-crystalline solar PV system operating in Singapore. This paper presents various EPBT analyses of the solar PV system with reference to a fuel oil-fired steam turbine and their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and costs are also compared. The study reveals that GHG emission from electricity generation from the solar PV system is less than one-fourth that from an oil-fired steam turbine plant and one-half that from a gas-fired combined cycle plant. However, the cost of electricity is about five to seven times higher than that from the oil or gas fired power plant. The environmental uncertainties of the solar PV system are also critically reviewed and presented.  相似文献

The thermoeconomic assessment of a cogeneration application that uses a reciprocating diesel engine and an ammonia–water absorption refrigeration system for electrical power and cold production from hydrogen as fuel is presented. The purpose of the assessment is to get both exergetic and exergoeconomic costs of the cogeneration plant products at different load conditions and concentrations of hydrogen–diesel oil blends. The exhaust gas of the reciprocating diesel engine is used as an energy source for an ammonia–water absorption refrigeration system. The reciprocating diesel engine was simulated using the Gate Cycle™ software, and the ammonia–water absorption refrigeration system simulation and the thermoeconomic assessment were carried out using the Engineering Equation Solver software (EES). The results show that engine combustion is the process of higher exergy destruction in the cogeneration system. Increased hydrogen concentration in the fuel increases the system exergetic efficiency for all load conditions. Exergy destruction in the components of the ammonia–water absorption refrigeration system is increased with increasing load due to the rise of heat transfer. At intermediate and high loads energy efficiency is increased in the power system, and low values of unit exergetic cost and competitive specific exergoeconomic costs are noticed. The cogeneration system operation at intermediate and high engine loads was proven to be feasible.  相似文献

This paper presents a techno-economic analysis of corn stover fired process heating (PH) and the combined heat and power (CHP) generation systems for a typical corn ethanol plant (ethanol production capacity of 170 dam3). Discounted cash flow method was used to estimate both the capital and operating costs of each system and compared with the existing natural gas fired heating system. Environmental impact assessment of using corn stover, coal and natural gas in the heat and/or power generation systems was also evaluated. Coal fired process heating (PH) system had the lowest annual operating cost due to the low fuel cost, but had the highest environmental and human toxicity impacts. The proposed combined heat and power (CHP) generation system required about 137 Gg of corn stover to generate 9.5 MW of electricity and 52.3 MW of process heat with an overall CHP efficiency of 83.3%. Stover fired CHP system would generate an annual savings of 3.6 M$ with an payback period of 6 y. Economics of the coal fired CHP system was very attractive compared to the stover fired CHP system due to lower fuel cost. But the greenhouse gas emissions per Mg of fuel for the coal fired CHP system was 32 times higher than that of stover fired CHP system. Corn stover fired heat and power generation system for a corn ethanol plant can improve the net energy balance and add environmental benefits to the corn to ethanol biorefinery.  相似文献

Exergoeconomic formulations and procedure including exergy flows and cost formation and allocation within a high temperature steam electrolysis (HTSE) system are developed, and applied at three environmental temperatures. The cost accounting procedure is based on the specific exergy costing (SPECO) methodology. Exergy based cost-balance equations are obtained by fuel and product approach. Cost allocations in the system are obtained and effect of the second-law efficiency on exergetic cost parameters is investigated. The capital investment cost, the operating and maintenance costs and the total cost of the system are determined to be 422.2, 2.04, and 424.3 €/kWh, respectively. The specific unit exergetic costs of the power input to the system are 0.0895, 0.0702, and 0.0645 €/kWh at the environmental temperatures of 25 °C, 11 °C, and −1 °C, respectively. The exergetic costs of steam are 0.000509, 0.000544, and 0.000574 €/kWh at the same environmental temperatures, respectively. The amount of energy consumption for the production of one kg hydrogen is obtained as 133 kWh (112.5 kWh power + 20.5 kWh steam), and this corresponds to a hydrogen cost of 1.6 €/kg H2.  相似文献

Renewable energy-based hydrogen production plants can offer potential solutions to both ensuring sustainability in energy generation systems and designing environmentally friendly systems. In this combined work, a novel solar energy supported plant is proposed that can generate hydrogen, electricity, heating, cooling and hot water. With the suggested integrated plant, the potential of solar energy usage is increased for energy generation systems. The modeled integrated system generally consists of the solar power cycle, solid oxide fuel cell plant, gas turbine process, supercritical power plant, organic Rankine cycle, cooling cycle, hydrogen production and liquefaction plant, and hot water production sub-system. To conduct a comprehensive thermodynamic performance analysis of the suggested plant, the combined plant is modeled according to thermodynamic equilibrium equations. A performance assessment is also conducted to evaluate the impact of several plant indicators on performance characteristics of integrated system and its sub-parts. Hydrogen production rate in the suggested plant according to the performance analysis performed is realized as 0.0642 kg/s. While maximum exergy destruction rate is seen in the solar power plant with 8279 kW, the cooling plant has the lowest exergy destruction rate as 1098 kW. Also, the highest power generation is obtained from gas turbine cycle with 7053 kW. In addition, energetic and exergetic efficiencies of solar power based combined cycle are found as 56.48% and 54.06%, respectively.  相似文献

Cogeneration power plants based on fuel cells are a promising technology to produce electric and thermal energy with reduced costs and environmental impact. The most mature fuel cell technology for this kind of applications are polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells, which require high-purity hydrogen. The most common and least expensive way to produce hydrogen within today's energy infrastructure is steam reforming of natural gas. Such a process produces a syngas rich in hydrogen that has to be purified to be properly used in low temperature fuel cells. However, the hydrogen production and purification processes strongly affect the performance, the cost, and the complexity of the energy system.Purification is usually performed through pressure swing adsorption, which is a semi-batch process that increases the plant complexity and incorporates a substantial efficiency penalty. A promising alternative option for hydrogen purification is the use of selective metal membranes that can be integrated in the reactors of the fuel processing plant. Such a membrane separation may improve the thermo-chemical performance of the energy system, while reducing the power plant complexity, and potentially its cost. Herein, we perform a technical analysis, through thermo-chemical models, to evaluate the integration of Pd-based H2-selective membranes in different sections of the fuel processing plant: (i) steam reforming reactor, (ii) water gas shift reactor, (iii) at the outlet of the fuel processor as a separator device. The results show that a drastic fuel processing plant simplification is achievable by integrating the Pd-membranes in the water gas shift and reforming reactors. Moreover, the natural gas reforming membrane reactor yields significant efficiency improvements.  相似文献

Concentrating solar power plants can achieve low cost and efficient renewable electricity production if equipped with adequate thermal energy storage systems. Metal hydride based thermal energy storage systems are appealing candidates due to their demonstrated potential for very high volumetric energy densities, high exergetic efficiencies, and low costs. The feasibility and performance of a thermal energy storage system based on NaMgH2F hydride paired with TiCr1.6Mn0.2 is examined, discussing its integration with a solar-driven ultra-supercritical steam power plant. The simulated storage system is based on a laboratory-scale experimental apparatus. It is analyzed using a detailed transport model accounting for the thermochemical hydrogen absorption and desorption reactions, including kinetics expressions adequate for the current metal hydride system. The results show that the proposed metal hydride pair can suitably be integrated with a high temperature steam power plant. The thermal energy storage system achieves output energy densities of 226 kWh/m3, 9 times the DOE SunShot target, with moderate temperature and pressure swings. In addition, simulations indicate that there is significant scope for performance improvement via heat-transfer enhancement strategies.  相似文献

In a conventional coal-fired power plant, which is only designed for electricity generation, 2/3 of fuel energy is wasted through stack gases and cooling water of condensers. This waste energy could be recovered by trigeneration; modifying the plants in order to meet district heating/cooling demand of their locations. In this paper, thermodynamical analysis of trigeneration conversion of a public coal-fired power plant, which is designed only for electricity generation, has been carried out. Waste heat potentials and other heat extraction capabilities have been evaluated. Best effective steam extraction point for district heating/cooling system; have been identified by conducting energetic and exergetic performance analyses. Analyses results revealed that the low-pressure turbine inlet stage is the most convenient point for steam extraction for the plant analyzed.  相似文献

In this study, a modified exergoeconomic model is proposed for geothermal power plants using exergy and cost accounting analyses, and a case study is in this regard presented for the Tuzla geothermal power plant system (Tuzla GPPS) in Turkey to illustrate an application of the currently modified exergoeconomic model. Tuzla GPPS has a total installed capacity of 7.5 MW and was recently put into operation. Electricity is generated using a binary cycle. In the analysis, the actual system data are used to assess the power plant system performance through both energy and exergy efficiencies, exergy losses and loss cost rates. Exergy efficiency values vary between 35% and 49% with an average exergy efficiency of 45.2%. The relations between the capital costs and the exergetic loss/destruction for the system components are studied. Six new exergetic cost parameters, e.g., the component annualized cost rate, exergy balance cost, overall unavoidable system exergy destruction/loss cost rate, overall unavoidable system exergy destruction/loss cost rate, overall unavoidable system exergy production cost rate and the overall unavoidable system exergy production cost rate are studied to provide a more comprehensive evaluation of the system.  相似文献

In this article, an extensive thermodynamic performance assessment for the useful products from the solar tower and high-temperature steam electrolyzer assisted multigeneration system is performed, and also its sustainability index is also investigated. The system under study is considered for multi-purposes such as power, heating, cooling, drying productions, and also hydrogen generation and liquefaction. In this combined plant occurs of seven sub-systems; the solar tower, gas turbine cycle, high temperature steam electrolyzer, dryer process, heat pump, and absorption cooling system with single effect. In addition, the energy and exergy performance, irreversibility and sustainability index of multigeneration system are examined according to several factors, such as environment temperature, gas turbine input pressure, solar radiation and pinch point temperature of HRSG. Results of thermodynamic and sustainability assessments show that the total energetic and exergetic efficiency of suggested paper are calculated as 60.14%, 58.37%, respectively. The solar tower sub-system has the highest irreversibility with 18775 kW among the multigeneration system constituents. Solar radiation and pinch point temperature of HRSG are the most critical determinants affecting the system energetic and exergetic performances, and also hydrogen production rate. In addition, it has been concluded that, the sustainability index of multigeneration suggested study has changed between 2.2 and 3.05.

Advanced biogas power generation technology has been attracting attentions, which contributes to the waste disposal and the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions. This work proposes and models a novel biogas-fed hybrid power generation system consisting of solid oxide fuel cell, water gas shift reaction, thermal swing adsorption and proton exchange membrane fuel cell (SOFC-WGS-TSA-PEMFC). The thermodynamic, exergetic, and thermo-economic analyses of this hybrid system for power generation were conducted to comprehensively evaluate its performance. It was found that the novel biogas-fed hybrid system has a gross energy conversion efficiency of 68.63% and exergy efficiency of 65.36%, indicating high efficiency for this kind of hybrid power technology. The market sensitivity analysis showed that the hybrid system also has a low sensitivity to market price fluctuation. Under the current subsidy level for the distributed biogas power plant, the levelized cost of energy can be lowered to 0.02942 $/kWh for a 1 MW scale system. Accordingly, the payback period and annual return on investment can reach 1.4 year and about 20%, respectively. These results reveal that the proposed hybrid system is promising and economically feasible as a distributed power plant, especially for the small power scale (no more than 2 MW).  相似文献

Combined‐cycle power plants are currently preferred for new power generation plants worldwide. The performance of gas‐turbine engines can be enhanced at constant turbine inlet temperatures with the addition of a bottoming waste‐heat recovery cycle. This paper presents a study on the energy and exergy analysis of a novel hybrid Combined‐Nuclear Power Plant (HCNPP). It is thus interesting to evaluate the possibility of integrating the gas turbine with nuclear power plant of such a system, utilizing virtually free heat. The integration arrangement of the AP600 NPP steam cycle with gas turbines from basic thermodynamic considerations will be described. The AP600 steam cycle modifications to combine with the gas turbines can be applied to other types of NPP. A simple modeling of Alstom gas turbines cycle, one of the major combined‐cycle steam turbines manufacturers, hybridized with a nuclear power plant from energetic and exergetic viewpoint is provided. The Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) has single steam pressure without reheat, one superheater and one economizer. The thermodynamic parameters of the working fluids of both the gas and the steam turbines cycles are analyzed by modeling the thermodynamic cycle using the Engineering Equation Solver (EES) software. In case of hybridizing, the existing Alstom gas turbine with a pressurized water nuclear power plants using the newly proposed novel solution, we can increase the electricity output and efficiency significantly. If we convert a traditional combined cycle to HCNPP unit, we can achieve about 20% increase in electricity output. This figure emphasizes the significance of restructuring our power plant technology and exploring a wider variety of HCNPP solutions. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, a thermoeconomic functional analysis method based on the Second Law of Thermodynamics and applied to analyze four cogeneration systems is presented. The objective of the developed technique is to minimize the operating costs of the cogeneration plant, namely exergetic production cost (EPC), assuming fixed rates of electricity production and process steam in exergy base. In this study a comparison is made between the same four configurations of part I. The cogeneration system consisting of a gas turbine with a heat recovery steam generator, without supplementary firing, has the lowest EPC.  相似文献

Bioenergy production is optimal when the energy production process is both efficient and benefits from local resources. Energetic and exergetic analyses are applied to highlight efficiency differences between small-size systems that are based on the co-generation of heating and power (CHP) versus the co-generation of heating and power with steam production (CHP-S). Both systems use the Organic fluid Rankine Cycle (ORC).The recovery of heat from flue gases is considered to be a way of increasing energy efficiency. In the CHP-S case, steam (at low pressure) is used to extract essential oils from fresh twigs and needles of coniferous trees throughout a steam distillation process. When the systems work at a thermal combustion power of 1350 kW, energetic analysis shows that the energy efficiency of the CHP-S plant (89.4%) is higher than that of the CHP plant (77.9%). Exergetic analysis shows that the efficiency of the CHP-S plant is 2.2% higher than that of the CHP plant.  相似文献

The sugar and ethanol production is one of the most important economical activities in Brazil, mainly due its high efficiency and competitiveness. Ethanol production is done by a series of steps: juice extraction, treatment, fermentation, and distillation. The juice extraction and treatment is a common operation of both the sugar and ethanol industries. The process begins with the sugar cane juice extraction, usually done by mills, where the cane is compressed between large cylinders for the separation of the juice from the bagasse. Recently, a juice extraction system, called a diffuser, was introduced in some sugar and ethanol plants. In diffusers, after the sugar cane preparation stage was completed with knives and shredders, the cane passes through a bed where the juice is separated from bagasse by the addition of imbibition water and steam, resulting in a leaching process. The present study evaluates different possibilities of decreasing the thermal energy consumption through exergetic cost analysis. The base case is a traditional ethanol production plant, for which the unitary exergetic cost of ethanol and electrical energy are determined. In the following cases, two proposals were assessed: the use of the diffuser as an extraction system and the use of pinch technology to perform an energetic integration between distillation and extraction (diffuser) systems. The results of exergetic efficiency, irreversibility generation, and unitary exergetic cost of products of the three cases are analyzed and compared. The results show the feasibility of using diffusers and heat recovery to decrease thermal energy consumption in ethanol production plants.  相似文献
