The performance of a solid sorption icemaker is investigated. CaCl2/activated carbon was used as compound adsorbent and ammonia was employed as adsorbate. The influence of operating conditions (cooling water temperature, mass recovery and heat pipe heat recovery, etc.) on the mass of ice, SCP (specific cooling power) and COP (coefficient of performance) was experimentally assessed. At the desorption temperature of 126 °C, cooling water temperature of 22 °C, ice produced temperature of −7.5 °C, 40 s of mass recovery and 2 min of heat pipe heat recovery, the mass of ice, SCP and COP values are 17.6 kg/h, 369.1 W/kg and 0.2, respectively.  相似文献

Adsorption performances and thermal conductivity were tested for three types of adsorbent: Pure CaCl2 powder, simple composite adsorbent and consolidated composite adsorbent. The simple composite adsorbents show better adsorption performance because the additive of expanded graphite in CaCl2 powder has restrained the agglomeration phenomenon in adsorption process and improved the adsorption performance of CaCl2. The consolidated composite adsorbent are suitable to be used as adsorbent for ice maker on fishing boats because they have higher thermal conductivity, larger volumetric cooling capacity, higher SCP values and better anti-sway performance than simple composite adsorbents. Thermal conductivity of the consolidated composite adsorbent is 6.5–9.8 W m−1 K−1 depending on the molding pressure, ranging from 5 to 15 MPa, which is about 32 times higher than the thermal conductivity of CaCl2 powder. The volumetric cooling capacity of consolidated composite adsorbent is about 52% higher than the best result obtained for CaCl2 at the evaporating temperature of −10 °C. The SCP of the consolidated adsorbent increases of about 353% than CaCl2 powder from simulation results at Tad=30 °C and Tev=−10 °C. The consolidated composite adsorbents have good anti-sway performance and they are not easy to be scattered out when the fishing boats sway on the sea.  相似文献

A cryogenic loop heat pipe (CLHP) has been developed for future aerospace applications at the Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry (TIPC). It has been demonstrated that this CLHP, when placed horizontally, can operate in liquid-nitrogen temperature range and have a heat transfer capability of up to 12 W with proper working fluid inventory. This paper presents some particular characteristics of the CLHP when the compensation chamber is half-filled with liquid-phase working fluid before startup. The device has been tested at different orientations using nitrogen as the working fluid in order to compare its thermal behavior, specially related to the heat transfer capability, the operation temperature and the thermal resistance, as well as to investigate its operational characteristics under power level as low as 1 W. Tests were performed for the CLHP at horizontal position and with the liquid line 3.4 and 6.4 cm below the vapor line, respectively. The experimental results show the operationability of the CLHP tested at three orientations and tests with the liquid line 6.4 cm below the vapor line show lower operation temperatures and higher heat transfer capability.  相似文献

A thermodynamic cycle model is used to select an optimum adsorbent-refrigerant pair in respect of a chosen figure of merit that could be the cooling production (MJ m−3), the heating production (MJ m−3) or the coefficient of performance (COP). This model is based mainly on the adsorption equilibrium equations of the adsorbent–refrigerant pair and heat flows. The simulation results of 26 various activated carbon–ammonia pairs for three cycles (single bed, two-bed and infinite number of beds) are presented at typical conditions for ice making, air conditioning and heat pumping applications. The driving temperature varies from 80 °C to 200 °C. The carbon absorbents investigated are mainly coconut shell and coal based types in multiple forms: monolithic, granular, compacted granular, fibre, compacted fibre, cloth, compacted cloth and powder. Considering a two-bed cycle, the best thermal performances based on power density are obtained with the monolithic carbon KOH-AC, with a driving temperature of 100 °C; the cooling production is about 66 MJ m−3 (COP = 0.45) and 151 MJ m−3 (COP = 0.61) for ice making and air conditioning respectively; the heating production is about 236 MJ m−3 (COP = 1.50).  相似文献

Heat transfer of ice slurry flow based on ethanol–water mixture in a circular horizontal tube has been experimentally investigated. The secondary fluid was prepared by mixing ethanol and water to obtain initial alcohol concentration of 10.3% (initial freezing temperature -4.4 °C). The heat transfer tests were conducted to cover laminar and slightly turbulent flow with ice mass fraction varying from 0% to 22% depending on test performed. Measured heat transfer coefficients of ice slurry are found to be higher than those for single phase fluid, especially for laminar flow conditions and high ice mass fractions where the heat transfer is increased with a factor 2 in comparison to the single phase flow. In addition, experimentally determined heat transfer coefficients of ice slurry flow were compared to the analytical results, based on the correlation by Sieder and Tate for laminar single phase regime, by Dittus–Boelter for turbulent single phase regime and empirical correlation by Christensen and Kauffeld derived for laminar/turbulent ice slurry flow in circular horizontal tubes. It was found that the classical correlation proposed by Sieder and Tate for laminar forced convection in smooth straight circular ducts cannot be used for heat transfer prediction of ice slurry flow since it strongly underestimates measured values, while, for the turbulent flow regime the simple Dittus–Boelter relation predicts the heat transfer coefficient of ice slurry flow with high accuracy but only up to an ice mass fraction of 10% and Recf > 2300 regardless of imposed heat flux. For higher ice mass fractions and regardless of the flow regime, the correlation proposed by Christensen and Kauffeld gives good agreement with experimental results.  相似文献

Ice slurry performance in a concentric corrugated tube heat exchanger is experimentally studied in this work in order to compare experimental results to theoretical prediction obtained using the correlations proposed in previous papers. Once the validity of those correlations is verified, the behaviour of the studied heat exchanger is analyzed for different ice slurry flow conditions and compared to the results obtained when a heterogeneous storage is used and only carrier fluid flows through the heat exchanger. According to the performance evaluation criterion used – variation in heat transfer rate for equal pressure drop and surface area – the most remarkable conclusion obtained is that slurry improves the behaviour of the heat exchanger studied for all the cases analyzed, although the increase in heat transfer rate is always lower than 15%, being in most cases lower than 5%.  相似文献

The cooling performance of a consolidated composite reactive bed made from expanded graphite impregnated with CaCl2 was experimentally assessed under different evaporation and heat sink temperatures. The compound presented a specific cooling power (SCP) higher than 1000 W kgSalt−1 at several studied conditions. The calculated coefficient of performance (COP) was about 0.35 when the amount of refrigerant consumed in the reaction was 0.80 kg kgSalt−1. Both SCP and COP changed with the cycle time, and thus, with the degree of the reaction. The synthesis time to maximise the SCP, under any studied condition, was about 5 min, and the absorbed quantity greatly varied among the different operation conditions. When compared to the time necessary to obtain an absorbed amount of 0.80 kg kgSalt−1, the synthesis time of 5 min could improve the SCP in about 15–68%, however, COP would be deployed in about 14–50%.  相似文献

One of the main components of an ice slurry system is the melting heat exchanger, in which ice slurry absorbs heat resulting in the melting of ice crystals. Design calculations of melting heat exchangers are mainly based on heat transfer and pressure drop data, but recent experimental studies have shown that superheating of ice slurry should also be considered. This paper presents ice slurry melting experiments with a tube-in-tube heat transfer coil. The experimental results indicate that operating conditions such as ice slurry velocity, heat flux, solute concentration, ice fraction, and ice crystal size determine the degree of superheating. The various influences are explained by considering the melting process as a two-stage process consisting of the heat transfer between wall and liquid and the combined heat and mass transfer between liquid and crystals. Bigger ice crystals and higher solute concentrations decrease the rate of the second stage and therefore increase the degree of superheating.  相似文献

A functional fluid was made by adding a small amount of additive to a water–silicone-oil mixture with 90 vol% water content, and the functional fluid was transformed into an ice slurry by cooling while stirring. The new ice formation system, which authors proposed for ice storage based on the results of previous studies, demonstrated that the ice slurry could be formed continuously for 10 h. In the current paper, experiments were carried out, varying operating conditions, and an optimal operating condition was determined to improve performance of the present system still more. From the experimental results, the conditions necessary to increase the amount of recovery ice were clarified. The time-dependencies of the shape and size of formed ice particles were also shown. Moreover, the reason why the freezing temperature of the functional fluid rose due to repetition of ice formation was clarified, and its measure was discussed. The present study then found that it was possible to form and recover a larger amount of ice than in previous attempts, given the rise in freezing temperature.  相似文献

In this paper we present results of the studies of ice slurry flow in horizontal tubes. The possibility of treating the rheological parameters of ice slurry as being those of Bingham fluid was confirmed. The values of parameters (mass fraction, flow velocity) corresponding to the laminar, intermediate and turbulent flow were determined which permits to optimize the flow in the systems working with this cooling agent. Critical flow velocity and mass fraction of ice values were determined thereby; they correspond to a change in character of an ice slurry flow from a laminar to turbulent motion. Experimental results were compared to the analytical results, based on the Hedström and Tomita algorithms (the laminar and turbulent flow, respectively). The comparison showed a very good agreement between these data.  相似文献

This paper presents the results of experiments and modelling carried out on ice slurries flowing in uninsulated steel pipes with a nominal diameter of 50 mm. The slurries used were formed from 4.75% NaCl aqueous solution and had ice mass fractions in the range 18–42%, with a view to the use of thick ice slurry ‘pigs’ as a pipeline clearing technique. Of particular interest was the distance over which such slurries can survive as plug-like entities, before melting reduces them to ineffective thin two-phase suspensions. The experiments showed that for small volumes of slurry, survivability is directly proportional to the quantity of slurry used, but that increasing the ice fraction has a more marked effect. A simple one-dimensional numerical model that accounts for transportation, heat transfer and melting was developed that produces reasonable predictions.  相似文献

The heat transfer characteristics were experimentally investigated for ice slurry made from 6.5% ethylene glycol–water solution flow in a 13.84 mm internal diameter, 1500 mm long horizontal copper tube. The ice slurry was heated by hot water circulated at the annulus gap of the test section. Experiments of the melting process were conducted with changing the ice slurry mass flux and the ice fraction from 800 to 3500 kg/m2 s and 0–25%, respectively. During the experiment, it was found that the measured heat transfer rates increase with the mass flow rate and ice fraction; however, the effect of ice fraction appears not to be significant at high mass flow rate. At the region of low mass flow rates, a sharp increase in the heat transfer coefficient was observed when the ice fraction was more than 10%.  相似文献

In an earlier paper [Y.H. Yau, Application of a heat pipe heat exchanger to dehumidification enhancement in tropical HVAC systems – a baseline performance characteristics study, International Journal of Thermal Sciences 46 (2) (2007) 164–171], the author had established the baseline performance characteristics of the eight-row wickless heat pipe heat exchanger (HPHX) for a vertical configuration under a range of conditions appropriate for a tropical climate. Now, the same basic experimental set-up was to be used in the present research with the HPHX tilted 30°. In this configuration, the gravitational force would be expected to enhance drainage of any condensation forming on the extended fin surfaces of the HPHX evaporator section, and therefore, the effectiveness of the HPHX could be anticipated to be better than the vertical configuration, particularly when processing inlet air with high RH. The investigation has been carried out for 32 experiments with typically high RH and the results are presented in this paper. The results suggested that the possibly adverse influence of condensate forming on the fins of the HPHX was negligible, and therefore the HPHX in a typically-used vertical configuration could perform equally as well as it would if the HPHX was installed in an inclined position.  相似文献

This article experimentally investigates the thermal performance of a thermal battery used in the ice storage air-conditioning system as a subcooler. The thermal battery utilizes the superior heat transfer characteristics of two-phase closed thermosyphon and eliminates the drawbacks found in convectional energy storage systems. Experimental investigations are first conducted to study the thermal behavior of thermal battery under different charge temperatures (−5 °C to −9 °C) in which water is used as the energy storage material. This study also examines the thermal performance of the subcooled ice storage air conditioner under different cooling loads. Experimental data of temperature variation of water, ice fraction, refrigerant mass flow rate and coefficient of performance (COP) are obtained. The results show that supercooling phenomenon appears in the water and it can be ended when the charge temperature is lower than −6 °C. The system gives 28% more cooling capacity and 8% higher COP by the contribution of the thermal battery used as a subcooler.  相似文献

This study focuses on an emulsion as a new thermal storage material for ice storage. Two types of emulsions were formed using an oil–water mixture with a small amount of additive. A silicone, light and lump oils were used. The water contents of the emulsions were 70, 80 and 90%. The additive was an amino group modified silicone oil. No depression of freezing point was observed for the emulsions because of their hydrophobic properties. In order to determine the structure of the emulsions, their electrical resistances were measured. Moreover, components of the liquids separating from the emulsions were analyzed. The results indicated that one emulsion was a W/O type emulsion, while the other was an O/W type. Finally, adaptability of the two emulsions to ice storage was discussed, it was concluded that a high performance ice slurry could be formed by the W/O type emulsion.  相似文献

A functional fluid composed of an oil–water mixture with an additive is transformed into an ice slurry by cooling while stirring. This paper describes a new continuous ice slurry formation method. Experiments were carried out by varying conditions such as the supply time of functional fluid, the stirrer torque, brine temperature and degree of supercooling. As a result, the characteristics of the ice formation and recovery processes were clarified. It was found that the ice particles gradually became uniform in size and spherical, and grew to 3.5 mm in diameter during about 10 h. The factors influencing the size of formed ice particles were discussed because the larger ice particles were expected to melt more rapidly. The ice particle size was found to increase with decreasing degree of supercooling and cooling rate, and with increasing stirrer wing diameter.  相似文献

We experimentally show that for the same heat exchanger inventory allocation, a four-bed adsorption chiller delivers a 12% higher ultimate cooling capacity than its two-bed counterpart. In addition it delivers a significantly improved quality of instantaneous cooling than a two-bed chiller at the same cooling capacity. The COP-enhancing feature of a passive heat recovery scheme that does not involve additional pumping action or valves is experimentally proven. It improves the COPs of a two-bed chiller and a four-bed chiller by as much as 38 and 25%, respectively, without any effect on their cooling capacities. The highest COPs achieved with a two-bed and four-bed chillers are 0.46±0.02 and 0.45±0.02, respectively. These are measured at a hot-water inlet temperature of 85 °C, cooling-water inlet temperature of 29.4 °C and chilled-water inlet temperature of 12.2 °C.  相似文献

We have been studying on ice slurry in a dynamic type ice storage system. The ice slurry has many good characteristics. The ice slurry can be made from a solution. When designing the ice storage system using this ice slurry, thermal conductivity of the ice slurry is essential. When thermal conductivity of the ice slurry made from a solution is measured by a transient line heat-source technique, a measurement value of thermal conductivity is affected by a latent heat of fusion of ice. Therefore, the thermal conductivity measured is apparent thermal conductivity. In this study, influences of Stefan number, initial concentration of the solution, initial solid fraction (initial IPF) and Fourier number on the thermal conductivity was analytically discussed to improve measurement accuracy of the thermal conductivity of ice slurry in the transient line heat-source technique.  相似文献

The objective of this study is to provide experimental data that can be used in the optimal design of flat plate finned-tube heat exchangers with large fin pitch. In this study, 22 heat exchangers were tested with a variation of fin pitch, number of tube row, and tube alignment. The air-side heat transfer coefficient decreased with a reduction of the fin pitch and an increase of the number of tube row. The reduction in the heat transfer coefficient of the four-row heat exchanger coil was approximately 10% as the fin pitch decreased from 15.0 to 7.5 mm over the Reynolds number range of 500–900 that was calculated based on the tube diameter. For all fin pitches, the heat transfer coefficient decreased as the number of tube row increased from 1 to 4. The staggered tube alignment improved heat transfer performance more than 10% compared to the inline tube alignment. A heat transfer correlation was developed from the measured data for flat plate finned-tubes with large fin pitch. The correlation yielded good predictions of the measured data with mean deviations of 3.8 and 6.2% for the inline and staggered tube alignment, respectively.  相似文献

An experimental study on ice formation around horizontal long tubes   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The results of an experimental study are presented where the growth rate of ice on the outside of cooled copper tubes was studied. The tubes, which were immersed in water in an insulated vessel, were internally cooled by circulating glycol through them.It was found that axial growth rate of ice is distinct at low values of the coolant Reynolds number and short freezing times. The slope of the ice thickness with axial distance showed moderate dependency on time but varied with coolant flow rate, and with Stanton and Biot numbers.A key result from the experiments is the abrupt ice thickness enlargements on the surface of tube bends. This anomaly may be attributed to internal flow disturbances of the coolant, and creation of local eddies inside the bends that enhance growth of ice. The effect was evident for a low Reynolds number (Re = 251.9 and Bi < 1), and fades out for large Reynolds number flows.  相似文献
