The concentrations of six indicator and co-planar polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), 17 polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins, and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) were determined in soil and associated biota samples collected from a polluted and wasted farmland in southern China. The sum of six indicator PCBs (Nos 28, 52, 101, 138, 153 and 180) concentrations in biota samples were proportional to the total amount of PCBs that transferred from soil to the corresponding biota samples, and the sum six indicator PCB congeners in samples were about 20% of the total PCBs, respectively. The ratios of the sum six indicator PCBs and the total PCBs in samples collected in the same area were approximately equal. The sums of six indicator PCBs were proportional to the total PCBs that transferred from soil to plant, while the co-planar PCBs were not. Analysis of individual PCB and PCDD/F congener signatures in soil revealed the original pollutant source after transportation and biodegradation for 14 years using principal component analysis (PCA). The pattern of PCBs in soils and plants could reflect the original pollution source after transportation and biodegradation for 14 years, while the pattern of PCBs in the terrestrial animals could not reflect the primary source. The consumption foods in this region such as foraging chicken eggs, foraging duck eggs, and loach (Misgurnus anguillicaudatus) were highly contaminated, the total toxicity equivalent (TEQ) was up to 784 pg WHO-TEQ/g on basis lipid in foraging chicken eggs.  相似文献

The levels of organochlorinated pesticides (OCPs): p,p'-DDT and its metabolites, hexachlorobenzene (HCB), hexachlorocyclohexane isomers (HCHs), chlordanes and their metabolites, and 18 polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) congeners were measured in maternal serum, umbilical cord serum and human milk collected from 22 mothers living in the Wielkopolska region, Poland. Additionally, 11 polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) congeners were measured in the human milk samples. p,p'-DDT and its major metabolite, p,p'-DDE, together with HCB, were found in all milk and serum samples. Median concentrations of p,p'-DDE in maternal serum, umbilical cord serum and milk were 343, 329 and 634ng/g lipid weight (lw). PCB congeners 138, 153 and 180 were the major congeners measured in all serum samples, while CB 170 was detected in 74% and 100% of umbilical cord and maternal serum, respectively. Except for CBs 74, 101 and 105, which had a detection frequency of 77%, 23% and 82%, respectively, all investigated PCB congeners were measured in all human milk samples. The median concentrations of sum PCBs in maternal serum, umbilical cord serum and milk were 79, 60 and 133 ng/g lw, respectively. A good correlation (Spearman R(S)>0.75, p<0.001) was found for major PCBs, p,p'-DDT and p,p'-DDE, between maternal and umbilical cord serum, while the correlation was weaker between milk and serum. The median of sum PBDEs in human milk was 2.0 ng/g lw (range 0.8 to 8.4), with BDE 47 being always the most abundant PBDE congener and, together with BDE 153, being present in all samples. In general, results found in the investigated group are at the low end of the concentration range measured in Europe.  相似文献

Characterizing biological factors associated with species-specific accumulation of contaminants is one of the major focuses in ecotoxicology and environmental chemistry studies. In this study, polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs), dibenzofurans (PCDFs), and non- and mono-ortho-substituted polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) congeners were analyzed in various fish species from the Tittabawassee and Saginaw Rivers (12 fish species; n = 314 individuals), Michigan, USA. Due to their migratory habits, greater δ13C stable isotope values were found in walleye and white sucker among 12 fish species. Meanwhile, the δ15N values indicated that the trophic status was least in carp and greatest in largemouth bass. The greatest total concentrations of dioxins were found in fishes with the lowest trophic status (carp (n = 50) followed by channel catfish (n = 49)), and concentrations of ΣPCDD/Fs (20-440 pg/g ww (wet weight)), ΣPCBs (16-690 ng/g ww), and TEQs (6.8-350 pg/g ww) in carp were also greater than the least mean concentrations in other fishes. Contributions of various biological factors to the species accumulation were assessed. Body weight and lipid content were found to be the most significant factors influencing accumulation of ΣPCDD/Fs. Lipid content and trophic level seemed to be dominant factors determining accumulation of ΣPCB and TEQs, but negative correlations between trophic status and concentrations of ΣPCBs and TEQs were observed possibly due to the great concentrations in benthivorous fishes such as carp occupying lower trophic levels. These factors can be used to predict the contaminant levels of dioxins and health risks of the fishes in the river ecosystem.  相似文献

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were measured in indoor dust of three microenvironments in Durban, South Africa. The sum of eight PBDEs and three PCBs were quantified by gas chromatography with mass spectral detection. The mean concentrations of ∑n = 8 PBDEs and ∑n = 3 PCBs in 10 homes, 11 offices, and 13 university students’ computer laboratories were 1710, 1520, and 818 ng/g, and 891, 923, and 1880 ng/g for PBDEs and PCBs, respectively. The concentration of PCBs found in homes was independent (= 0.0625) of building construction year. Similarly, no relationship was observed between PCB concentrations and floor type. The concentrations of PBDEs correlated (r = 0.60) with PCB concentrations in homes, thus assuming similar sources. The elevated concentrations of PBDEs and PCBs may have significant implications for human exposure.  相似文献

Partitioning of PCDD/F (polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzofuran) congeners between gaseous and particulate phases and removal efficiencies of the existing air pollution control devices (APCDs) for PCDD/Fs at two large-scale municipal waste incinerators (MWIs) in Taiwan are evaluated via stack sampling and analysis. Two MWIs investigated are equipped with activated carbon injection (ACI) and selective catalytic reduction system (SCR) as major PCDD/F control devices, respectively. The average PCDD/F concentrations of stack gases are 2.35 and 1.49 ng/N m(3), and the international toxic equivalent quantity (TEQ) are 0.17 and 0.043 ng TEQ/N m(3) in MWI-A and MWI-B, respectively. The average removal efficiency of PCDD/Fs achieved with ACI+BF (bag filters) reaches 95% (MWI-A) while that achieved with the WS (wet scrubber)+SCR system reaches 99% (MWI-B). The results obtained on gas/particulate partitioning in flue gases indicate that particulate-phase PCDD/Fs accounted for 27.7% and 24.7% of the total PCDD/F concentrations at the outlets of cyclone (CY) and electrostatic precipitator (EP) for MWI-A and MWI-B, respectively. But the gas/particulate partitioning in flue gas after PCDD/Fs control devices is quite different in two MWIs. This study also indicates that total 2,3,7,8-substituted PCDD/F discharges are 142.3 microg TEQ/ton waste for MWI-A and 98.6 microg TEQ/ton waste for MWI-B, respectively.  相似文献

This study was conducted to explore the burdens of PBBs, PBDEs, and PCBs among cancer patients living in the e-waste disassembly sites. The contents of 23 PBB congeners, 12 PBDE congeners, and 27 PCB congeners in kidney, liver, and lung samples were measured by GC-MS. The results showed that low-brominated PBBs and PBB153 were the predominant congeners. PBDE47 were the most predominant PBDE congeners. PBDE209 were detected in > 70% of the samples, with geometric means ranging from 64.2 to 113.9 ng g− 1 lipid. Among the three subfamilies of PHAHs, PCB concentrations were the highest. The detected levels of PHAHs were in the same order of magnitude in the three tissues, which indicated that any of the three tissues could be the suitable indicator for assessing body burdens of PHAHs. PBB contents (181-192 ng g− 1 lipid) were obviously higher than those reported in the general USA population (3-8 ng g− 1 lipid). PBDE levels (174.1-182.3 ng g− 1 lipid) were comparable to those reported in the USA population, but significantly higher than those of the European population. PCBs levels were comparable to those of the European population. The high cancer incidence in the disassembly sites may be related to higher burdens of PBBs, PBDEs, and PCBs in tissues.  相似文献

A comparative analysis of the bioaccumulation behaviour of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) was conducted involving simultaneous measurements of PBDE and PCB concentrations in organisms of a Canadian Arctic marine food web. Concentrations of individual PBDE congeners (BDE-28, -47, -99, -153, -154 and -183) in Arctic marine sediments (0.001-0.5 ng.g(-1) dry wt) and biota (0.1-30 ng.g(-1) wet wt) were low compared to those concentrations in biota from urbanized/industrial regions. While recalcitrant PCB congeners exhibited a high degree of biomagnification in this food web, PBDE congeners exhibited negligible biomagnification. Trophic magnification factors (TMFs) of PCBs ranged between 2.9 and 11, while TMFs of PBDEs ranged between 0.7 and 1.6. TMFs of several PBDE congeners (BDE-28, -66, -99, -100, -118, -153 and -154) were not statistically greater than 1, indicating a lack of food web magnification. BDE-47 was the only PBDE with a TMF (i.e. 1.6) statistically greater than 1, hence showing evidence of biomagnification in the food web. However, the TMF of BDE-47 (1.6) was substantially lower than TMFs of recalcitrant Cl(5)-Cl(7) PCBs (TMFs~9-11). Species-specific bioaccumulation factors (BAFs) of PBDEs in homeotherms were much smaller than those for PCBs. This further indicates the low degree or absence of biomagnification of PBDEs compared to PCBs in this food web. The field observations suggest PBDEs exhibit a relatively rapid rate of depuration though biotransformation in Arctic marine organisms, which is consistent with laboratory studies in fish and rats.  相似文献

This paper summarizes the published scientific data on the soil contamination by semivolatile organic chemicals (SVOCs) in China. Data has been found for more than 150 organic compounds which were grouped into six classes, namely, polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and phthalic acid esters (PAEs). An overview of data collected from the literature is presented in this paper. The Chinese regulation and/or other maximum acceptable values for SVOCs were used for the characterization of soils. In general, the compounds that are mostly studied in Chinese soils are OCPs, PAHs and PCBs. According to the studies reviewed here, the most abundant compounds were PAEs and PAHs (up to 46 and 28 mg kg(-1) dry weight, respectively); PCBs and OCPs occurred generally at concentrations lower than 100 microg kg(-1) dry weight. Nevertheless, quite high concentrations of PCDD/Fs, PCBs and PBDEs were observed in contaminated sites (e.g., the sites affected by electronic waste activities). The average concentrations of PAHs and OCPs in soils of North China were higher than those in South China. The principal component analysis demonstrated different distribution patterns for PAH, PCB and PCDD/F congeners and for the various sites/regions examined. The isomer ratios of DDTs and hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCHs) indicated different sources and residue levels in soils. Finally, this review has highlighted several areas where further research is considered necessary.  相似文献

Persistent organic pollutants in ringed seals from the Russian Arctic   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Organochlorine compounds total DDT (ΣDDT), total HCH isomers (ΣHCH), toxaphenes (sum of Parlar 26, 50, 62), mirex, endrin, methoxychlor, total chlorinated benzenes (ΣCBz), total chlordane compounds (ΣCHL), polychlorinated biphenyls (total of 56 congeners; ΣPCBs), polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and furans (PCDD/Fs), and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (sum of 7 tri- to hepta congeners; ΣPBDEs) were analysed in the blubber of adult ringed seals from the four areas of the Russian Arctic (White Sea, Barents Sea, Kara Sea and Chukchi Sea) collected in 2001-2005. Ringed seals from the south-western part of the Kara Sea (Dikson Island — Yenisei estuary) were the most contaminated with ΣDDTs, ΣPCBs, ΣCHL, and mirex as compared with those found in the other three areas of Russian Arctic, while the highest mean concentrations of ΣHCHs and PCDD/Fs were found in the blubber of ringed seals from the Chukchi Sea and the White Sea, respectively. Among all organochlorine compounds measured in ringed seals from the European part of the Russian Arctic, concentrations of ΣDDT and ΣPCBs only were higher as compared with the other Arctic regions. Levels of all other organochlorine compounds were similar or lower than in seals from Svalbard, Alaska, the Canadian Arctic and Greenland. ΣPBDEs were found in all ringed seal samples analysed. There were no significant differences between ΣPBDE concentrations found in the blubber of ringed seals from the three studied areas of the European part of the Russian Arctic, while PBDE contamination level in ringed seals from the Chukchi Sea was 30-50 times lower. ΣPBDE levels in the blubber of seals from the European part of the Russian Arctic are slightly higher than in ringed seals from the Canadian Arctic, Alaska, and western Greenland but lower compared to ringed seals from Svalbard and eastern Greenland.  相似文献

This paper discusses the dioxin TEQ levels as determined by the chemically activated luciferase gene expression assay (CALUX) and by HRGC-HRMS in eggs, soils, faeces and kitchen waste samples obtained in the CONTEGG study. The samples were collected in each Belgian province at private homes and in small gardens where chickens are held. The CALUX levels for eggs sampled in autumn were higher than the levels in eggs obtained at the same locations in spring (median values of 5.86 and 4.08 pg CALUX TEQ/g fat, respectively). The total WHO-TEQ levels in eggs, determined by HRGC-HRMS, ranged from 3.29 to 95.35 pg TEQ/g fat in autumn and from 1.50 to 64.79 pg TEQ/g fat in spring. In the soils on which the chickens forage, levels of 2.51-11.35 pg I-TEQ/g in autumn and 2.00-7.86 pg I-TEQ/g in spring were found. The congener pattern of PCDD/Fs in the eggs, soils and faeces was dominated by OCDD, in addition to 1,2,3,4,6,7,8-HeptaCDD, OCDF and 1,2,3,4,6,7,8-HeptaCDF. The predominant dioxin-like PCBs were PCB118, PCB 105 and PCB 156. The dioxin-like PCBs contributed on average 47%, 14% and 20% to the total WHO-TEQ in eggs, soils and faeces, respectively. Kitchen waste samples were very low-contaminated with dioxin-like compounds. The present results showed a good agreement between egg and soil TEQ levels for PCDD/Fs but not for dioxin-like PCBs. This study showed that current soil levels found in some private gardens do not lead to egg levels below the current EU maximal level of 6 pg total TEQ/g fat for dioxins and dioxin-like PCBs. The consumers of the analysed eggs attained 5-79% of the tolerable weekly intake (TWI) of 14 pg TEQ/kg bw for dioxins and dioxin-like PCBs by exposure to their home-produced eggs only.  相似文献

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), chlorinated pesticides (i.e., dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) and its metabolites, chlordanes (CHLs), dieldrin, hexachlorobenzene (HCB), and mirex), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs), and polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were measured in blubber biopsy samples collected from 139 wild bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) during 2003-2005 in Charleston (CHS), SC and the Indian River Lagoon (IRL), FL. Dolphins accumulated a similar suite of contaminants with ∑ PCB dominating (CHS 64%, IRL 72%), followed by ∑ DDT (CHS 20%, IRL 17%), ∑ CHLs (CHS 7%; IRL 7%), ∑ PBDE (CHS 4%, IRL 2%), PAH at 2%, and dieldrin, PFCs and mirex each 1% or less. Together ∑ PCB and ∑ DDT concentrations contributed ∼ 87% of the total POCs measured in blubber of adult males. ∑ PCBs in adult male dolphins exceed the established PCB threshold of 17 mg/kg by a 5-fold order of magnitude with a 15-fold increase for many animals; 88% of the dolphins exceed this threshold. For male dolphins, CHS (93,980 ng/g lipid) had a higher ∑ PCBs geomean compared to the IRL (79,752 ng/g lipid) although not statistically different. In adult males, the PBDE geometric mean concentration was significantly higher in CHS (5920 ng/g lipid) than the IRL (1487 ng/g). Blubber ∑ PFCs concentrations were significantly higher in CHS dolphins. In addition to differences in concentration of PCB congeners, ∑ PBDE, TEQ, ∑ CHLs, mirex, dieldrin, and the ratios ∑ DDE/∑DDT and trans-nonachlor/cis-nonachlor were the most informative for discriminating contaminant loads in these two dolphin populations. Collectively, the current ∑ PCB, ∑ DDT, and ∑ PBDEs blubber concentrations found in CHS dolphins are among the highest reported values in marine mammals. Both dolphin populations, particularly those in CHS, carry a suite of organic chemicals at or above the level where adverse effects have been reported in wildlife, humans, and laboratory animals warranting further examination of the potential adverse effects of these exposures.  相似文献

The extent and the sources of contamination with brominated flame retardants (BFRs), such as polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD), in home-produced eggs from free-foraging chicken of Belgian private owners were investigated. Various factors, such as seasonal variability, exposure of chickens through diet (kitchen waste) and soil, and elimination of BFRs through eggs and faeces were assessed. PBDEs were more important than HBCD in terms of concentrations and detection frequency. Concentrations of PBDEs and HBCD in Belgian home-produced eggs were relatively low and comparable with reported levels from other European countries and the US. The concentrations of PBDEs (sum of 13 congeners, including BDE 209) ranged between not detected and 32 ng/g lipid weight (lw), with medians of 3.0 and < 2.0 ng/g lw for the autumn 2006 and spring 2007 campaigns, respectively. When present, BDE 209 was the major PBDE congener (45% of sum PBDEs). When BDE 209 was not detected, the PBDE profile was composed of PentaBDE (BDE 99 and BDE 47), with, in some cases, higher contribution of OctaBDE (BDE 183 and BDE 153). HBCD was also detected (< 0.4 and 2.9 ng/g lw for the autumn 2006 and spring 2007 campaigns, respectively), but at lower detection frequency. The highest HBCD value was 62 ng/g lw. The similarity between profiles and seasonal variations in the concentrations of BFRs in soil and eggs indicate that soil is an important source, but not the sole source, for eggs laid by free-foraging chicken. The contamination of eggs with PBDEs and HBCD appears to be of low concern for public health and the contribution of eggs to the total daily intake of PBDEs appears to be limited (10% for chicken owners and 5% for the average Belgian consumer).  相似文献

Fish products (n=129) available on the Canadian retail market were collected and analyzed for levels of PCBs, PCDDs and PCDFs during the spring of 2002. The collection included samples from eight fish groups (Arctic char, crab, mussels, oysters, salmon, shrimp, tilapia, trout) from the wild and those raised on fish farms, as available. Sample collection included both domestic and imported fish products, however, no significant difference in residue levels was observed between these groups of fish products. Salmon samples were found to contain the highest concentration of sigmaPCBs (geometric mean 12.9 ng/g wet weight), while crab samples had greatest sigmaPCDD/F levels (geometric mean 0.002 ng/g wet weight). The geometric mean of the total toxic equivalents (WHO-TEQ) ranged from 0.06 pg WHO-TEQ/g whole weight in farmed shrimp to 1.1 pg WHO-TEQ/g whole weight in farmed salmon samples. PCB 153, 138, 118 and 101 were the dominant congeners observed in fish product samples studied, while 1,2,3,7,8-pentachlorodibenzodioxin and 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzofuran contributed the most to total PCDD and PCDF loadings. Lipid content was positively correlated to sigmaPCB levels; however, no relationship between lipid content and sigmaPCDD/F concentrations was established. SigmaPCB levels were below the Canadian guideline value for PCBs in fish and fish products (2000 ng/g). Similarly, 2,3,7,8-TCDD levels in all fish products were below the Canadian guideline value (0.020 ng/g).  相似文献

In the present study, large scale geographical variation in the occurrence of organohalogenated pollutants (OHPs) was investigated throughout Europe using eggs of a terrestrial resident passerine species, the blue tit (Cyanistes caeruleus). Blue tit eggs from 10 sampling locations, involving suburban, rural and remote areas, in 7 European countries were collected and analysed. Sum polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) levels ranged from 150 ng/g lipid weight (lw) to 2003 ng/g lw. Sum polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) ranged from 3.95 ng/g lw to 114 ng/g lw. As expected, PCB and PBDE concentrations were significantly higher in the sampled suburban locations compared to the rural and remote locations. Sum organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) ranged from 122 ng/g lw to 775 ng/g lw. OCP concentrations were, against the expectations, found to be lower in the rural sampling locations compared to the other locations. Contamination profiles of PCBs, PBDEs and OCPs differed also among the sampling locations, which may be due to local contamination sources. Finally, we compared the results of this study with previously reported OHP concentrations in the eggs of a closely related species, the great tit (Parus major), from the same sampling locations in Europe. We found no differences in concentrations between the species. In addition, we found a significant, positive correlation between the sum PCB concentrations in blue tit eggs and great tit eggs, suggesting similar exposure pathways, mechanisms of accumulation and maternal transfer of PCBs. In conclusion, our results suggest the usefulness of eggs from passerine birds as a biomonitoring tool for OHPs on a large geographical scale.  相似文献

Chemical pollution may play a role in the etiology of fibropapillomatosis in green turtles (Chelonia mydas). In this preliminary study, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were measured in the livers and adipose fats of green turtles collected after they were stranded on Oahu Island, Hawaii in 1992-1993. Average concentrations of total PCBs were 45-58 ng/g dry weight and 73-665 ng/g in the liver and adipose tissues, respectively. Hexachlorobiphenyls were predominant homologues, PCBs 153 and 138 were dominant congeners in all the turtle tissues. Among the most toxic coplanar congeners, in the order of abundance, were PCB 77 > 126 > 169. Estimated toxic equivalents (TEQs) of PCBs to 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin were 8-15 pg/g in the livers and 13-48 pg/g in the adipose tissues. PCB 126 contributed 85-91% of the total TEQs.  相似文献

Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs), polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are bioaccumulative chemicals that are considered to be toxic contaminants based on several epidemiological studies. To elucidate exposure levels of these chemicals in the present study, concentrations of PCDD/DFs, dioxin-like PCBs (DL-PCBs) and PCBs in breast milk, maternal blood and cord blood obtained from the same participants registered in a birth cohort study in Tohoku, Japan, were measured. Congener-specific analysis revealed several differences in minor congeners of these compounds among the three specimen types, although major congeners were detected in the specimens. The toxicity equivalence quantity concentrations (1998 WHO-TEF) and PCBs in breast milk, maternal blood and cord blood on the whole and on a lipid basis were in the order of breast milk > maternal blood > cord blood. Pearson's correlation coefficients of TEQs and total PCBs among the three specimens were high, with the correlation coefficient of TEQ between breast milk and maternal blood being the highest (r=0.94, p<0.001). On the other hand, the TEQ between breast milk and cord blood was the lowest (r=0.79, p<0.001). Pearson's correlation coefficient between the TEQ and PCBs in each specimen was also high (r=0.82-0.95, p<0.001). The associations of chemical concentrations with maternal age, parity, fish intake, BMI and the rate of body weight increase during pregnancy were analyzed with multiple linear regression analysis. TEQ concentrations and PCBs were negatively associated with parity (p<0.05), and maternal age was positively associated with PCBs (p<0.05). However, the associations with BMI and fish intake during pregnancy were not significant. These results suggest that parity is an important factor affecting the concentrations of dioxins and PCBs in these specimens.  相似文献

Meadow soils, feeding-stuffs and foodstuffs from the alluvial plain of the river Elbe were analyzed in respect of PCDD/Fs, DL-PCBs and mercury with a view to assessing the consequences of the extreme flood of August 2002. The PCDD/F concentrations in the soils range from 3 to 2100 ng WHO-TEQ/kg dm, and for the DL-PCBs the range was 0.32 to 28 ng WHO-TEQ/kg dm. On the basis of established threshold values >40% of the areas are only fit for restricted usage. Mercury concentrations range from 0.11 to 17 mg/kg dm, whereby the action value of 2 mg/kg dm is exceeded in about 50% of the soil samples. A cumulative memory effect from past floods rather than a recent contamination from August 2002 is documented. Soils taken from behind broken dykes showed significantly lower concentrations. Grass, hay and grass silage originating from pasture land in Lower Saxony were taken before and immediately after the flooding. PCDD/Fs range from 0.29 to 16 ng WHO-TEQ/kg, the maximum permitted value of 0.75 ng WHO-TEQ/kg was exceeded in about 50% of the samples. Muscle-tissue from cattle, sheep, lamb and a roe deer as well as untreated milk from individual cows returned values ranging from 0.76 to 5.9 pg WHO-PCDD/F-TEQ/g fat, and 10% of the samples returned values higher than the permitted maximum of 3 pg WHO-PCDD/F-TEQ/g fat. The action value of 2 pg WHO-PCDD/F-TEQ/g fat was exceeded in 33% of the samples. No direct connection between these results and the effects of the flood could be established. A major input path for PCDD/Fs is the tributary Mulde, which discharges contaminated sediments from its catchment area into the Elbe.  相似文献

This study investigated concentrations, contents and congener profiles of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) in the workplaces of a sintering plant. Air samples were collected from the charging zone, the sintering zones of the sintering grate and the rough roll shredder, and the control room. The charging zone was found to have a higher total suspended particulate (TSP) but lower PCDD/F concentrations (=4969 microg nm(-3) and 7.61 pg nm(-3), respectively) than the sintering zone (=1422-1448 microg nm(-3) and 19.16-23.17 pg nm(-3), respectively). The TSP and PCDD/F concentrations were lowest in the control room (=98 microg nm(-3) and 1.75 pg nm(-3), respectively). However, the above concentrations were within the range of a typical urban-industrial area. Quite similar PCDD/F contents were found in particles in the sintering zones and control room (=11.72-14.30 and 15.85 ng g(-1), respectively) suggesting that the sintering zone and the control room are very similar. In both charging and sintering zones, 2,3,4,7,8-PeCDF contributed 40-60% to the total I-TEQ in both the gas phase and particle phase. However, in control room, both congeners 2,3,4,7,8-PeCDF and 2,3,7,8-TCDD were the main contributors; the later contributed 30% of the total I-TEQ in gas phase. In control room, the contribution of 2,3,7,8-TCDD to the total PCDD/F concentration in the gas phase greatly exceeded that in particle phase (=5.5% and 0.8%, respectively). Therefore, solutions must be sought to avoid the transfer of not only the particle-phase but also the gas-phase PCDD/Fs from the sintering zone to the control room in the future.  相似文献

Although dietary intake studies have been carried out extensively in most developed countries, to evaluate the health risks of PCDD/Fs and DL-PCBs, no data of this kind exists for Egypt. In this study, concentrations of PCDD/Fs and DL-PCBs were measured using HRGC/HRMS in the most contributing foodstuffs (dairy products, fish/seafood, and meat) randomly collected from Ismailia city, Egypt. The dietary intake of PCDD/Fs and DL-PCBs were subsequently determined, and compared with the most recent studies. To provide a primary estimation of the whole TEQ intake in Egypt if all the main food categories included, an estimation of the dietary intake (based on EU data) for some important and non-measured groups (cereals, vegetables/fruits, eggs and milk) was carried out. The calculated dietary intake based on the WHO assumption of 60 kg bw ranged from 3.69 to 4.0 pg WHO-TEQ/kg bw/day for PCDD/Fs and from, 6.04 to 6.68 pg WHO-TEQ/kg bw/day, if DL-PCBs were included. PCBs intake contributed about 40% of the total TEQ intake. Dairy products (mainly cheese) were the main contributor to the intake of PCDD/Fs (89%), while fish/seafood and meat have more or less the same percent share (5.4%). The dairy products contamination was the reason for our elevated dietary intake, as the content of PCDD/Fs and DL-PCBs is several times higher than in all the developed countries. The total intake (PCDD/Fs+DL-PCBs) due to consumption of dairy products, fish/seafood and meat, is close to that reported in EU countries at the beginning of 1980s, but much higher than all those mentioned in all the recent reports, and higher than the maximum WHO TDI of 4 pg TEQ/kg bw/day. A recalculation of the dietary intake to include not only our measured data but also the data for the non-measured groups, yielded a total intake in the range of 4.06-6.38 pg TEQ/kg bw/day for PCDD/Fs and a range of 6.59-9.98 pg TEQ/kg bw/day for total including PCBs. Results show that cereals and vegetables/fruits contribute significantly to PCDD/Fs TEQ intake in Egypt and play a more important role than fish/seafood and meat. This is the case even though the intake for cereals and vegetables/fruits based on EU data.  相似文献

This study investigates the compositional variations, changes in concentrations and contribution of particular congeners of PCDDs, PCDFs, non-ortho PCBs and mono-ortho PCBs in human milk from two mothers sampled during the 12-month lactation period. Total PCDD/F and dioxin-like PCB concentration in milk sampled from the primiparous mother on day 5 after delivery was 37 pg TEQ/g fat, and this value decreased significantly by 43% at 12 months. In milk sampled from the multiparous mother nursing her second child on day 5 after delivery was 12 pg TEQ/g fat, and this value decreased by 40% at 12 months. The decrease was statistically significant not for PCDD/Fs, but for dioxin-like PCBs. The ratio variance of the congener profiles of PCDD/Fs and dioxin-like PCBs in the milk remained similar during lactation. Moreover, the congener profiles of PCDD/Fs and dioxin-like PCBs in the milk showed similar percentages for both mothers independent of the lactation event and the number of previous births. The mean daily intake of dioxins by the infant nursed by the primiparous mother and the infant nursed by the multiparous mother up to six months of age was 140 and 46 pg TEQ/kg body weight, respectively. From seven to twelve months of age, the mean daily intake was 37 and 13 pg TEQ/kg body weight, respectively. Both values decreased by approximately 70%. The reasons why the mothers' body burden of dioxins decreased by breastfeeding and why the infants' daily intake of human milk per body weight decreased as the infant grows older consequently decreased were considered.  相似文献
