ADI: Automatic Derivation of Invariants

Most current systems for mechanical program verification are not fully automatic, since the user himself must provide the intermediate inductive assertions. This paper describes an interactive computer program, called ADI, which automatically generates the needed inductive assertions. ADI is also able to extend partial loop assertions supplied by the user to form complete assertions. The implementation (written in QLISP and INTERLISP) is based on both the algorithmic and the heuristic approaches introduced by Katz and Manna in "Logical Analysis of Programs" [25]. For the algorithmic subsystem ADI includes: Difference Equations Constructor, Difference Equations Solver, and Invariants from Conditional Statements Generator. The heuristic subsystem includes: Exit Rules Package, Bounding Variables Component, Strengthening Executer, Weakening Executer, and a Heuristic Invariant Matcher-which is the actual implementation of two new heuristics, MATCHPQ and MATCHPT. ADI is a small step toward interactive, practical program verification.     

Mining market data: A network approach

We consider a network representation of the stock market data referred to as the market graph, which is constructed by calculating cross-correlations between pairs of stocks based on the opening prices data over a certain period of time. We study the evolution of the structural properties of the market graph over time and draw conclusions regarding the dynamics of the stock market development based on the interpretation of the obtained results.     

The role of online buzz for leader versus challenger brands: the case of the MP3 player market

Online buzz reflects the perceived quality of products in a positive, negative, or neutral way. We have limited understanding of how customers’ quality perceptions, often referred to as e-sentiment, affect the movement of prices. In this paper, we examine the effect of e-sentiment on the daily price fluctuations of MP3 players by using daily buzz information collected from diverse online documents. Econometric panel data modeling reveals that e-sentiment is a leading indicator of price fluctuations. Furthermore, we find the effect is moderated by the brand’s market position: the leading (challenger) brand’s price responds more strongly to negative (positive) online buzz. In other words, negative buzz has a greater adverse effect on leading brands, whereas positive buzz has a greater beneficial effect on challenger brands. These findings establish the relevance of e-sentiment information to online price movements and suggest that managers should frequently monitor the online buzz surrounding their products, especially as it relates to their relative perceived quality.

Adaptive fuzzy leader clustering of complex data sets in patternrecognition

A modular, unsupervised neural network architecture that can be used for clustering and classification of complex data sets is presented. The adaptive fuzzy leader clustering (AFLC) architecture is a hybrid neural-fuzzy system that learns online in a stable and efficient manner. The system used a control structure similar to that found in the adaptive resonance theory (ART-1) network to identify the cluster centers initially. The initial classification of an input takes place in a two-stage process: a simple competitive stage and a distance metric comparison stage. The cluster prototypes are then incrementally updated by relocating the centroid position from fuzzy C-means (FCM) system equations for the centroids and the membership values. The operational characteristics of AFLC and the critical parameters involved in its operation are discussed. The AFLC algorithm is applied to the Anderson iris data and laser-luminescent finger image data. The AFLC algorithm successfully classifies features extracted from real data, discrete or continuous, indicating the potential strength of this new clustering algorithm in analyzing complex data sets.

Improved ADI Scheme for Linear Hyperbolic Equations: Extension to Nonlinear Cases and Compact ADI Schemes

This paper studies the Galerkin finite element approximation of time-fractional Navier–Stokes equations. The discretization in space is done by the mixed finite element method. The time Caputo-fractional derivative is discretized by a finite difference method. The stability and convergence properties related to the time discretization are discussed and theoretically proven. Under some certain conditions that the solution and initial value satisfy, we give the error estimates for both semidiscrete and fully discrete schemes. Finally, a numerical example is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of our numerical methods.     

Storing and analysing voice of the market data in the corporate data warehouse

Web opinion feeds have become one of the most popular information sources users consult before buying products or contracting services. Negative opinions about a product can have a high impact in its sales figures. As a consequence, companies are more and more concerned about how to integrate opinion data in their business intelligence models so that they can predict sales figures or define new strategic goals. After analysing the requirements of this new application, this paper proposes a multidimensional data model to integrate sentiment data extracted from opinion posts in a traditional corporate data warehouse. Then, a new sentiment data extraction method that applies semantic annotation as a means to facilitate the integration of both types of data is presented. In this method, Wikipedia is used as the main knowledge resource, together with some well-known lexicons of opinion words and other corporate data and metadata stores describing the company products like, for example, technical specifications and user manuals. The resulting information system allows users to perform new analysis tasks by using the traditional OLAP-based data warehouse operators. We have developed a case study over a set of real opinions about digital devices which are offered by a wholesale dealer. Over this case study, the quality of the extracted sentiment data is evaluated, and some query examples that illustrate the potential uses of the integrated model are provided.
