Critical factors of WAP services adoption: an empirical study

Mobile commerce is becoming increasingly important in business. Wireless application protocol (WAP) is one of the most widespread technical standards for mobile commerce. Following continuous technical evolution, WAP has now included various new features. However, WAP services continue to struggle for market share. Hence, understanding the adoption of WAP services is increasingly important for enterprises interested in developing mobile commerce. This study aims to: (i) identify the critical factors of WAP services adoption; (ii) explore the relative importance of each factor between WAP adopters and non-adopters; and (iii) examine the causal relationships among variables on WAP services adoption behavior. This study reports empirical test of the adoption of WAP services in Taiwan, based on the theory of planned behavior and innovation diffusion theory. The results indicate that the critical factors influencing the adoption of WAP services include connection speed, service costs, user satisfaction, personal innovativeness, ease of use, peer influence, and facilitating conditions. Some suggestions for subsequent researchers and practitioners seeking to understand WAP services adoption behavior are also provided.

Reliability and survivability of wireless and mobile networks

The world is becoming more dependent on wireless and mobile services, but the ability of wireless network infrastructures to handle the growing demand is questionable. As wireless and mobile services grow, weaknesses in network infrastructures become clearer. Failures not only affect current voice and data use but could also limit emerging wireless applications such as e-commerce and high-bandwidth Internet access. As wireless and mobile systems play greater roles in emergency response, including 911 and enhanced 911 services, network failures take on life-or-death significance. Therefore, in addition to directing some attention to designing survivable wireless and mobile networks, developers must also keep in mind that increasingly pervasive and demanding services will further escalate the importance of reliability and survivability requirements. The authors explain several options providers must consider to decrease the number of network failures and to cope with failures when they do occur

Multicast support in mobile commerce applications

Mobile commerce is an emerging discipline that involves mobile devices, applications, middleware, and wireless networks. Although most e-commerce applications can be modified to run in a wireless environment, m-commerce includes a wide range of new services ranging from locational advertising to mobile offices that are only possible with a wireless infrastructure. Among the many challenges m-commerce presents to network designers, service providers, vendors, and applications developers is providing support for multicast communications. Unlike broadcasting, in which everyone is sent a message, or replicated unicasting, in which messages are sent one by one to individual clients, multicasting involves sending messages to only a select group of mobile users. It thus avoids sending messages to too many users or using too many resources to send messages. The article presents five classes of m-commerce applications that require or can benefit from multicast support in wireless networks. Even among those requiring such support, specific requirements vary considerably. Reliability is an important requirement for many m-commerce applications, while real-time applications need low latency or a certain quality of service. Security is also a major concern in some instances

XML and WML integration: An analysis and strategies for implementation to meet mobile commerce challenges

The market for providing mobile content for wireless devices is currently growing at a phenomenal rate. Competition to provide this content is being waged upon the technologies that support wireless communications to display rich media content for those wireless devices. The integration of XML and WML technologies would provide the necessary functions and capabilities to deliver this dynamic content to WAP enabled cellular phones. This article first gives an overview of XML and WML technologies and then explores the rationales for the integration of the two by examining the driving forces, justifying the use of the two to provide mobile content, and analyzing two associated integration aspects. The study further presents three strategies for XML and WML integration with three case studies of vendors' applications, and addresses the roles of integration facilitators. Finally, future implications and market considerations are discussed. The intention of this study is to analyze the current mobile market, and show how using XML and WML technologies can enable businesses to provide mobile content to cellular phone users.

移动商务的飞速发展对电子商务的安全模式提出了新的要求，该文分析了电子商务的发展要求及其相对于传统电子商务的特殊性。针对这些要求，介绍了Visa的3-D安全协议及其在移动商务中的应用，并讨论了实施中的相关问题。     

面向安全的WTLS扩展协议的改进与仿真

针对WTLS可能受到的几种主动攻击进行分析,而新一代移动商务的发展也对WTLS的安全性提出更高的要求,为此需要找出WTLS的安全漏洞,在这个基础上对扩展WTLS协议进行分析以及改进,使得协议具有更高的安全性能。分析WAP安全架构中WTLS的安全性问题,根据数据的机密性、完整性在移动电话和其他无线终端中完成授权鉴定,在此基础上针对漏洞提出解决方案,改进后的协议增加一个颁发证书的过程。通过案例证明该协议的安全性。仿真实验数据表明,WTLS协议是一个更高安全性的协议,在无线通信网络中有着重要的价值和研究意义。     

移动式电子商务的交易模型和事务处理程序的需求和性能

无线网络技术的发展以及手提终端用户数量的持续增长，使得近年来为移动用户提供人性化服务信道成为可能，并促进了移动电子商务的快速发展(MEC)。与固定在Internet上操作的电子商务相比，由于MEC的特殊性，移动终端和无线网络以及人们使用手提终端环境的限制，使得MEC能在不同的环境中部分地进行操作。在这篇文章中，我们讨论了MEC的交易模型以及与模型相关的问题和环境。

Automating negotiation for m-services

Mobile electronic commerce (m-commerce) is an emerging manifestation of Internet electronic commerce that bridges the domains of Internet, mobile computing and wireless telecommunications in order to provide an array of sophisticated services (m-services) to mobile users. To date, much of the research in the area has concentrated on the problem of service discovery. However, once a service has been discovered, it needs to be provisioned according to the goals and constraints of the service provider and the service consumer. Since, in general, these will be different stakeholders (with different aims), the de facto provisioning method will be some form of negotiation. To this end, this paper develops automated negotiation protocols and strategies that are applicable in m-commerce environments. Specifically, we develop and evaluate time-constrained bilateral negotiation algorithms, that allow software agents to adapt to the quality of the network and/or their experience of similar interactions.
