This paper reports on the implementation of a self-directed learning process in a circuit theory course, incorporating dynamic training elements which were designed on the basis of a cybernetic model of cognitive process management. These elements are centrally linked in a dynamic learning frame, created on the monitor screen, which displays the properties of the object being designed. This design, based on a mathematical model of the object or its real properties, is carried out by means of software connected to the user's PC via the Internet. The student, considered in this case as the subject of his/her learning-cognitive activity management, has an opportunity to change object parameters at each iteration and thus to control the dynamics of the learning frame. The major feature of this model is the feedback between the subject of management (object of training) and the dynamic learning frame.   相似文献

Blended learning has become an increasingly popular form of e-learning, and is particularly suitable to the process of transitioning towards e-learning from traditional forms of learning and teaching. This paper describes the use of the blended e-learning model, which is based on a mixture of collaborative learning, problem-based learning (PBL) and independent learning, in a course “Teaching Methods in Information Science,” given at the University of Rijeka, Rijeka, Croatia. This model is realized as a combination of a face-to-face environment and online learning, using a proprietary learning management system (LMS) named adaptive hypermedia courseware (AHyCo). AHyCo is based on adaptive hypermedia and in addition to supporting learning and testing, introduces completely new constructivist and cognitivist elements to education. By supporting collaborative and project-oriented activities AHyCo promotes students' motivation for learning and establishes learning as an active and interactive process. This paper describes both the technology for, and the methodological approach to, course design and development which is aimed at supporting the evolution from traditional teaching to active learning, and raising interest in the topics of e-learning and Web courseware development among IT students. A survey conducted in the end of the course showed that students were satisfied with the pedagogical approach, and their academic achievements were also better than expected. Particularly important is that the dropout rate was greatly diminished, which could be related to students' satisfaction with the support they received from the instructor and the system.   相似文献

The impact that project complexity, student prior academic achievement, and quality of instructional materials might have on student academic achievement was studied during a required device physics course, in which technology computer-aided design (TCAD) tools were introduced to first-year graduate students. Preliminary analysis of student performance and project complexity showed that students who attempted the most complex projects had the lowest student academic achievement, despite there being no significant differences in prior academic achievement as measured by grades in the first exam in the course. Further analysis of student achievement data from other electrical engineering courses taught in a similar open laboratory format, for which enhanced instructional materials were developed, suggest that when well-developed learning resources are easily accessible to students, project complexity has no negative impact on student academic achievement and can sometimes enhance student academic performance. Cognitive load theory was used to explain why well-developed instructional tools, such as enhanced tutorials, can help students better learn or work with complex material.   相似文献

Project-based courses offer one of the greatest education opportunities in an electrical engineering student's undergraduate curriculum. The ultimate success of this type of educational experience is keyed primarily to 1) the selection of a project with a high chance of success along with the right amount of challenge and 2) adequate planning. Faculty may choose to avoid a microcomputer-based design/ project due to their lack of experience in selecting suitable projects and planning for the support required. This paper describes a project which has considerable flexibility for individual definition of goals and, hence, the amount of challenge can, in some sense, be customized. The support required for a microcomputer-based design/project is distinct from that of a conventional design/project course. These planning and support requirements for microcomputer-based projects are described along with the course structure, content and approach to grading  相似文献

针对火电厂安全评价的现状提出了一种火电厂安全评价的数学模型和方法。考虑了影响火电厂安全的关键因素,在建立了火电厂多层次指标评价体系的基础上,运用系统功能论和层次分析法来构造系统安全优势函数,以解决系统安全功能大于各子系统安全功能之和的问题。该方法整合了火电厂中各安全评价因素相互作用的协调性,可为火电厂安全管理部门进行安全评价分析和决策提供科学依据和仿真手段。实际应用结果表明,采用本文提出的数学模型和方法能够有效地对火电厂进行安全评价。  相似文献

One hundred thirty-three undergraduate students in a digital filter design course participated in an experimental study. Two independent variables which occurred in a virtual laboratory environment were studied: 1) instructional treatments (online text-only materials, online texts with illustrations, and online texts with simulations); and 2) prior Internet experience (high and low). Three dependent variables were measured: 1) a knowledge achievement test; 2) intention to use instructional treatments; and 3) interaction levels with instructional treatments. The experimental research design of the study was a 3 times 2 randomized posttest design. Multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) was used to analyze collected data. The main effects and the potential interaction of the two independent variables were examined. Results indicate that the presentation of waveform variations and the change of parameters in the course content renders significant higher learning outcomes than online text-only materials and online texts with illustrations (Lambda (8,248) = 0.637, p < 0.05).  相似文献

Research using Web lectures to enhance the classroom learning experience in an introductory human-computer interaction course is presented. By using Web lectures to present lecture material before class, more in-class time can be spent engaging students with hands-on learning activities-using class time for more learning by doing, less learning by listening. A quasi-experiment was conducted over a 15-week semester with 46 students in two sections of the same course-one section using Web lectures and one using traditional lectures. Many control measures were in place, including each section being taught by the same instructor and blind grading being used. The Web lecture section's grades were significantly higher than the traditional lecture section, and Web lecture students reported increasingly strong positive attitudes about the intervention. The twofold contribution of this work is a novel use of existing technology to improve learning and a longitudinal, quasi-experimental evaluation of its use in context  相似文献

This paper proposes an integrated approach for developing the engineering curricula with a specific focus on engineering design. The proposed approach allows a continuous and coherent development of engineering students' design skills throughout the entire undergraduate curriculum. This ongoing design experience is delivered at an involvement and complexity level compatible with the students' study year. In the integrated approach, three different stages are identified: Structured Design Experience, Guided Design Experience, and Open-Ended Design Experience. The objectives, implementation mechanism, and the expected outcomes of each stage are outlined. The proposed methodology systematically develops not only design skills but also teamwork, communication skills, project management, and lifelong learning. The implementation of the proposed approach is demonstrated by presenting courses in the Electronics track which shows the gradual, integrated delivery of structured, guided, and open ended design experiences as students progress from the freshman to the final year of study. As a case study, the delivery of design skills using the proposed approach is assessed through the students' survey in the electrical engineering curriculum at the American University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.   相似文献

Sleep apnea (SA) is a common sleep disorder. Identifying patients at risk by means of comprehensive monitoring that requires overnight stay at professional sleep clinics are costly and inconvenient and can lead to unreliable results in view of the unfamiliar sleep environment. Existing wearable devices for sleep monitoring, which can be used in a familiar home environment, do not provide the same comprehensive monitoring as through clinical monitoring. The larger objective of the present work is to develop a sleep monitoring system for home use, which can provide comprehensive monitoring. In the development in this paper, machine learning (ML) models are explored for the classification of SA and sleep stages using multisensory data, without neglecting any of the required signals. The data acquired through the sensors are normalized, their features are extracted using Composite Multiscale Sample Entropy (CMSE) and are standardized using a robust scaling algorithm. Processed features are classified using a Neural Network (NN) and the obtained results for the SA classification are compared with those obtained by using a Support Vector Machine (SVM) approach. The impact of neglecting signals when classifying sleep stages is analyzed as well. The results are presented in the paper and observations are made. The NN model trained with the Bayesian regularization algorithm has provided an overall average accuracy of 94.5% and performed slightly better than when trained using the scaled conjugate gradient backpropagation algorithm (93.2%). The SVMs have yielded lower accuracy levels compared to the NNs (<92%). It is observed that the use of all 14 signals for SS classification yields an overall test accuracy of 72.3%, which is higher than that when one or few signals are used. It is concluded that ML models are effective in classifying sleep data from multiple sensors. Accuracy levels are higher when fused multisensory data are used as inputs. Furthermore, NN models are found to be better suitable in practical application and can be incorporated into an inexpensive and convenient wearable device that can carry out comprehensive monitoring.  相似文献

国务院599号令要求电力安全事故评级以导致的用户停电范围和负荷损失为标准。若仅按此标准对电网事故量化评价,则忽视了电力系统故障事件的概率特征,容易导致资金利用不当或投资规模过大。文中根据灵敏度理论计算故障事件导致的失负荷指标,并结合故障事件概率综合量度故障事件失负荷概率风险指标,应用失负荷概率风险指标对故障事件进行量化排序,从而指导电网规划。通过对2015年广东电网500 k V规划方案的研究结果表明,风险指标能够更科学地对故障事件进行优先级排序,帮助规划部门优先巩固电网薄弱环节,明确电网投资方向。  相似文献
