Dried microbial cells were compared with white fish meal at 10 and 20% levls of inclusion in diets offered to piglets from 21–42 days of age. Digestible energy and digestible nitrogen values for diets containing dried microbial cells (DMC) or diets containing white fish meal (WFM) were 15.8 or 15.6 MJ DE/kg DM and 28.1 or 25.9g DN/kg DM at the 10% level of inclusion, and 15.6 or 15.4 MJ DE/kg DM and 35.0 or 34.3 g DN/kg DM at the 20% level of inclusion respectively. Piglets offered diets containing DMC grew at least as fast as and converted feed at least as efficiently as piglets offered diets containing WFM. At the 20% level of inclusion, gains in water, nitrogen and lipid were 4633, 170 and 435 g for diet DMC whereas equivalent values for diet WFM were 4216, 149 and 386 g; efficiencies of conversion for DE and DN were 0.27 and 0.49 for diet DMC and 0.24 and 0.44 for diet WFM.  相似文献

Metabolism studies were carried out with 45 kg pigs to examine barley meal from the varieties Golden Promise, Maris Mink, Lami, Zephyr and Abacus, all with similar nitrogen (N) content, and barley meal from the variety Zephyr which had received four different levels of N fertilisation. There were no significant differences (P > 0.05) between varieties for the apparent digestibility coefficients of gross energy (GE) and proximate constituents, the least significant difference for GE and N being 0.025 and 0.089 of the respective means. The mean digestible energy (DE) and metabolisable energy (ME) values were 14.48 and 14.07 MJ/kg dry matter (DM). The mean apparent digestibility of N was 0.685. The apparent digestibility coefficients of GE and N of meal from the variety Zephyr increased with N content. The increase in DE value with N content could be attributed to the increase in N digestibility.  相似文献

Silage made from young grass and which contained an average of 34.6 g nitrogen (N), 19.5 MJ gross energy (GE) and 271 g fibre/kg dry matter (DM), was found to have digestibility coefficients to sows of 0.73 for N, 0.60 for GE, 0.60 for cellulose and 0.51 for fibre. The addition of a cellulase enzyme preparation to the grass prior to ensilage decreased the fibre content by 38 g/kg DM and increased the water soluble carbohydrate (WSC) content by 154 g/kg DM, but did not influence the digestibility of the silage.  相似文献

Renewed interest exists in using grass forages to dilute the higher crude protein (CP) and lower digestible fiber present in legumes fed to lactating dairy cows. A 3 x 3 Latin square feeding study with 4-wk periods was conducted with 24 Holstein cows to compare ryegrass silage, either untreated control or macerated (intensively conditioned) before ensiling, with alfalfa silage as the sole dietary forage. Ryegrass silages averaged [dry matter (DM) basis] 18.4% CP, 50% neutral detergent fiber (NDF), and 10% indigestible acid detergent fiber (ADF) (control) and 16.6% CP, 51% NDF, and 12% indigestible ADF (macerated). Alfalfa silage was higher in CP (21.6%) and lower in NDF (44%) but higher in indigestible ADF (26%). A lower proportion of the total N in macerated ryegrass silage was present as nonprotein N than in control ryegrass and alfalfa silages. Diets were formulated to contain 41% DM from either rye-grass silage, or 51% DM from alfalfa silage, plus high moisture corn, and protein concentrates. Diets averaged 17.5% CP and 28 to 29% NDF. The shortfall in CP on ryegrass was made up by feeding 7.6% more soybean meal. Intake and milk yields were similar on control and macerated ryegrass; however, DM intake was 8.3 kg/d greater on the alfalfa diet. Moreover, feeding the alfalfa diet increased BW gain (0.48 kg/d) and yield of milk (6.1 kg/d), FCM (6.8 kg/d), fat (0.26 kg/d), protein (0.25 kg/d), lactose (0.35 kg/d), and SNF (0.65 kg/d) versus the mean of the two ryegrass diets. Both DM efficiency (milk/DM intake) and N efficiency (milk-N/N-intake) were 27% greater, and apparent digestibility was 16% greater for DM and 53% greater for NDF and ADF, on the ryegrass diets. However, apparent digestibility of digestible ADF was greater on alfalfa (96%) than on ryegrass (average = 91%). Also, dietary energy content (estimated as net energy of lactation required for maintenance, milk yield, and weight gain) per unit of digested DM was similar for all three diets. Results of this trial indicated that, relative to ryegrass silage, feeding alfalfa silage stimulated much greater feed intake, which supported greater milk production.  相似文献

The effects of forage source, concentration of metabolizable protein (MP), type of carbohydrate, and their interactions on nutrient digestibility and production were evaluated using a central composite treatment design. All diets (dry basis) contained 50% forage that ranged from 25:75 to 75:25 alfalfa silage:corn silage. Rumen-degradable protein comprised 10.7% of the dry matter (DM) in all diets, but undegradable protein ranged from 4.1 to 7.1%, resulting in dietary MP concentrations of 8.8 to 12.0% of the DM. Dietary starch ranged from 22 to 30% of the DM with a concomitant decrease in neutral detergent fiber concentrations. A total of 15 diets were fed to 36 Holstein cows grouped in 6 blocks. Each block consisted of three 21-d periods, and each cow was assigned a unique sequence of 3 diets, resulting in 108 observations. Milk production and composition, feed intake, and digestibility of major nutrients (via total collection of feces and urine) were measured. Few significant interactions between main effects were observed. Starch concentration had only minor effects on digestibility and production. Replacing corn silage with alfalfa decreased digestibility of N but increased digestibility of neutral detergent fiber. Increasing the concentration of MP increased N digestibility. The concentration (Mcal/kg) of dietary digestible energy (DE) increased linearly as starch concentration increased (very small effect) and was affected by a forage by MP interaction. At low MP, high alfalfa reduced DE concentration, but at high MP, increasing alfalfa increased DE concentration. Increasing alfalfa increased DM and DE intakes, which increased yields of energy-corrected milk, protein, and fat. Increasing MP increased yields of energy-corrected milk and protein. The response in milk protein to changes in MP was much less than predicted using the National Research Council (2001) model.  相似文献

Digestibility trials were undertaken with pigs weighing 40 kg to determine the nutritive value of cooked potato flour, dried potato dice and raw potato mash. Apparent digestibility coefficients were, respectively, 0.96, 0.95 and 0.92 for energy and 0.89, 0.80 and 0.69 for nitrogen (N). The digestible energy values were 16.5, 16.3 and 15.7 MJ/kg d.m., and the contents of digestible N were 1.35, 1.05 and 1.02 g N/100 g d.m. When fed with balancer meals based on either maize or oat husk meal, the raw potato caused an apparent depression in the digestibility of N in the diet as a whole, and a reduction in the efficiency of utilisation of digested N. The findings are discussed in relation to the ability of the pigs to digest raw potato starch and the possibility of a component of raw potato, rendered ineffective by cooking but only partly so by drying, interfering with N digestibility and utilisation.  相似文献

Grass silage-based diets often result in poor nitrogen utilization when fed to dairy cows. Perennial ryegrass cultivars with high concentrations of water-soluble carbohydrates (WSC) have proven potential for correcting this imbalance when fed fresh, and have also been shown to increase feed intake, milk production, and N utilization. The possibility of achieving corresponding effects with silage-based diets was investigated in change-over experiments in an incomplete block design with 16 (yr 1) or 12 (yr 2) Swedish Red dairy cows in mid lactation. Measurements on N excretion and rumen parameters were performed on subgroups of 8 and 4 cows, respectively. In yr 1, 2 ryegrass cultivars (standard = Fennema; high-WSC = Aberdart) and 2 cuts (first and second) were compared. In all treatments, ryegrass silage was mixed 75/25 on a dry matter (DM) basis, with red clover silage before feeding out. In yr 2, 1 basic mixture from the different cuts of these 2 cultivars was used and experimental factors were red clover silage inclusion (25 or 50%) and sucrose addition (0 or 10%) on a silage DM basis. Differences in WSC concentration in the silage mixtures in yr 1 were minor, whereas the differences between cuts were more substantial: 100 compared with 111 g/kg of DM for first-cut silage and 39 compared with 47 g/kg of DM for second-cut silage. The silages fed in yr 2 had a WSC concentration of 115 or 102 g/kg of DM (25 or 50% red clover, respectively), but when sucrose was added WSC concentration reached 198 and 189 g/kg of DM, respectively. Milk production (kg/d) did not differ between treatments in either year. Red clover inclusion to 50% of silage DM increased milk protein. Nitrogen efficiency (milk N/feed N) increased from 0.231 to 0.254 with sucrose inclusion in yr 2 (average for the 2 red clover levels). Overall rumen pH was 5.99 and increased sucrose level did not affect pH level or daily pH pattern. Sucrose addition reduced neutral detergent fiber digestibility, particularly at higher inclusion rates of clover. Rumen pool of total purines did not differ between treatments, nor did protein production assessed from urinary allantoin. The NorFor feed evaluation model overestimated digestibility of neutral detergent fiber and N, but underestimated N excretion in feces. We concluded that addition of WSC to dairy cow diets at levels up to 3 kg of WSC per day (>14% of DM) does not dramatically affect cow performance.  相似文献

Formic acid (850 g/kg) was added to wilted perennial ryegrass (dry matter = 360 g/kg) at the rate of 3.9 g/kg before ensiling. The feeding value of the resulting silage was compared with those of silages made from the wilted grass and the freshly cut grass, and with the grass itself in metabolism trials with sheep. Intakes of dry matter were depressed by fermentation, being 12.3, 9.7 and 8.5 g/kg liveweight for the acid treated, prewilted and directly ensiled material respectively. Fermentation improved the metabolisable energies which were 11.6, 12.0, 11.4 and 13.6 MJ/kg DM for the grass, and the acid treated, wilted and directly ensiled materials. In general, fermentation reduced the intake of metabolisable energy and the production potential of the material. The major factor affecting the feeding value of silage is its acceptability to the animal in terms of dry matter intake. High dry matter intakes are best achieved by limiting fermentation.  相似文献

Fifty-six autumn-calving Holstein-Friesian cows, blocked on the basis of days in milk (27.6 ± 10.65 d), lactation number (3.1 ± 2.21), and preexperimental milk yield (28.4 ± 6.69 kg) were used to examine the effects of replacing 330 g/kg of dry matter (DM) of first-cut perennial ryegrass silage with either fermented whole-crop wheat (WCW), urea-treated processed WCW, or corn silage on subsequent feed intake, milk production, and efficiency of nitrogen utilization. The DM (g/kg), crude protein (CP, g/kg of DM) and in vitro DM digestibility (g/kg) of the forages were 204, 179, and 762 for grass silage; 389, 90, and 711 for fermented WCW; 795, 141, and 768 for urea-treated processed WCW; and 346, 93, and 783 for corn silage, respectively. Four forage treatments were evaluated as follows: 1) grass silage as the sole forage (GS); 2) a mixture of grass silage and fermented WCW silage, (F-WCW); 3) a mixture of grass silage and urea-treated processed WCW, (UP-WCW); and 4) a mixture of grass silage and corn silage (CS). In all cases, the alternative forages comprised 67% of the forage mix on a DM basis. Isonitrogenous diets were formulated by offering all cows 8 kg of concentrate as fed, formulated to different CP concentrations. Cows were offered these diets from 28 to 104 d in milk. Total DM intake and milk yield were greater on UP-WCW (20.0 and 30.2 kg/d) and CS (18.3 and 33.2 kg/d) than on GS (13.5 and 26.5 kg/d). Although DM intake was greater on F-WCW (17.1 kg/d) than on GS, milk yield was not significantly greater (+2.7 kg/d). Milk protein concentration was greater on F-WCW (30.5 g/kg), UP-WCW (31.3 g/kg), and CS (30.7 g/kg) than on GS (28.5 g/kg). However, there was no difference between treatments in milk fat or lactose concentrations. Body weight change was greater for cows offered GS (−0.27 kg/d) than for those offered UP-WCW (−0.01 kg/d) and CS (+0.05 kg/d) but not compared with those offered F-WCW (−0.06 kg/d). There was no effect of treatment on plasma glucose, nonesterified fatty acids, β-hydroxybutyrate, urea, or total protein at d 64 ± 17.4 and d 92 ± 17.4 postpartum. Efficiency of N utilization was greatest for CS with 0.36 of N intake being recovered in milk compared with 0.28, 0.32, and 0.26 for GS, F-WCW, and UP-WCW, respectively. There was no effect of treatment on milk urea N concentration or the urinary allantoin N to creatinine N ratio. The results of this experiment indicate that corn silage is a more suitable supplementary forage to grass silage than fermented or urea-treated processed WCW, with advantages realized in milk production and more efficient N utilization.  相似文献

When fed at the level of 50% of the diet, the dried residue of Ascophyllum nodosum, remaining after alginate extraction, was found to cause diarrhoea in pigs within 7 days. Digestibility coefficients for a diet containing 50% seaweed residue, 20% barley, 19% wheat and 10% fish meal were 0.47 for energy and 0.52 for nitrogen. By difference calculation the digestible energy and digestible crude protein values of the seaweed residue were determined to be 2.2 MJ and —30 g/kg dry matter.  相似文献

The chemical composition and nutritive value of sunflower, cv. Armavirec, was examined at 12 stages of growth. Maximum yield of dry matter (18.2 t ha?1) occurred at the dough seed stage. Ether extract showed a five-fold increase with the development of the seed. This increase was reflected in the gross energy value which was maximal at 19.1 MJ kg?1 dry matter at the dough seed stage. In-vitro organic matter digestibility was highest at the onset of flowering when the estimated metabolisable energy value was 10.5 MJ kg?1 dry matter. Throughout the sampling period the calcium to phosphorus ratios varied from 3.9-5.9:1, an imbalance which would have to be redressed on diets based largely on sunflowers. Fresh and wilted sunflowers were successfully ensiled at the flowering stage, without the use of additives. pH values of the resulting silages were 3.86 and 4.01. The silages were each fed to six cross-bred wethers and voluntary dry matter intakes were 23.9 and 26.5 g kgW?1 for the fresh and wilted silages respectively. For the fresh silage, intakes of digestible organic matter and digestible nitrogen were 612 and 13.6 g day?1 compared with 684 and 16.7 g day?1 for the wilted silage. Nitrogen retention increased with increase in silage dry matter. The optimum time of cutting for yield of nutrients is at the milky ripe stage. The composition of the crop at this stage should facilitate a satisfactory preservation by ensiling. The crop provides a high yield of dry matter over about 10 weeks in late summer and could provide a valuable standby forage crop for grass in dry areas.  相似文献

This study was carried out to evaluate the nutrient intakes and growth of dairy heifers offered an alfalfa silage–corn silage diet (CON; 14.3% crude protein, 61.1% total digestible nutrients, 47.9% neutral detergent fiber) compared with diets containing 1 of 2 types of sorghum-sudangrass (SS) silages: conventional or photoperiod sensitive. The objective of the study was to determine the potential to use SS to control dry matter (DM) and nutrient intakes and weight gain. Both diets were similar in nutrient composition, with approximately 13% crude protein, 60 to 61% total digestible nutrients, and 55% neutral detergent fiber. Seventy-two Holstein heifers (16–18 mo at study initiation) were blocked by initial body weight (light = 422 ± 12.8 kg; medium = 455 ± 14.8 kg; heavy = 489 ± 16.7 kg) with 3 pens assigned to each weight block (8 heifers/pen; 24 heifers/block). The 3 diets were randomly allocated to the pens within each block and offered for 12 wk. Heifers offered the CON diet had greater DM, protein, and energy intakes compared with those offered the SS silage-based diets due to the greater neutral detergent fiber concentration of the SS diets. With lower DM and nutrient intakes, average daily gain was in the recommended range (0.8–1 kg/d for Holstein heifers) for heifers offered the SS silage-based diets (mean of 0.92 kg/d for both SS diets vs. 1.11 kg/d for CON). Sorting behaviors for heifers offered both SS diets were more aggressive against long, medium, and short particles compared with those of heifers offered the CON diet; however, heifers sorted large particles from photoperiod-sensitive silage more aggressively than those from conventional silage. Based on this study, SS silage-based diets can control the DM and energy intakes for heifers and maintain optimum growth rates, with harvesting at a shorter chop length likely helping to alleviate sorting issues.  相似文献

This study examined the effects of gradually replacing grass silage with whole-crop barley silage on feed intake, ruminal and total tract digestibility, and milk yield in lactating dairy cows. Four dairy cows in early lactation, equipped with rumen cannulas, were fed 4 diets over four 21-d periods. The diets consisted of 4 forage mixtures of grass silage and whole-crop barley silage supplemented with 8.9 kg/d of concentrates [dry matter (DM) basis]. The proportion of barley silage in the forage was adjusted to 0, 0.20, 0.40, and 0.60 kg/kg of DM. Ruminal nutrient metabolism was measured on the basis of digesta flow entering the omasal canal. Ammonia concentrations and volatile fatty acid profiles were determined in the rumen fluid. Ruminal digestion and passage kinetics were assessed by the rumen evacuation technique. Replacement of grass silage with barley silage had no effect on DM, digestible organic matter, or neutral detergent fiber (NDF) intake, but starch intake increased, whereas nitrogen and digestible NDF (dNDF) intake decreased. Increases in the proportion of barley silage linearly decreased milk yield, and the molar proportion of acetate in the rumen, and increased that of propionate, butyrate, and valerate. Decreases in milk yield due to inclusion of barley silage were attributed to decreases in diet digestibility and nutrient supply to the animal. Barley silage linearly decreased organic matter digestibility in the total tract and NDF and dNDF digestibility in the rumen and the total tract, and decreased nonammonia N flow entering the omasal canal. No significant differences between diets were noted in the digestion rate of dNDF or passage rate of indigestible NDF from the rumen. Decreases in organic matter and NDF digestibility were attributed to the higher indigestible NDF concentration of barley silage compared with that of grass silage and to the smaller pool size of dNDF in the rumen.  相似文献

Two Latin square trials, using 21 or 24 multiparous lactating Holstein cows, compared the feeding value of red clover and alfalfa silages harvested over 2 yr. Red clover silages averaged 2 percentage units lower in crude protein (CP) and more than 2 percentage units lower in neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber than did alfalfa silage. In trial 1, diets were formulated to 60% dry matter (DM) from alfalfa, red clover silage, or alfalfa plus red clover silage (grown together); CP was adjusted to about 16.5% by adding soybean meal, and the balance of dietary DM was from ground high moisture ear corn. Nonprotein N in red clover and alfalfa-red clover silages was 80% of that in alfalfa silage. Although DM intake was 2.5 and 1.3 kg/d lower on red clover and alfalfa plus red clover, yield of milk and milk components was not different among diets. In trial 2, four diets containing rolled high moisture shelled corn were formulated to 60% DM from alfalfa or red clover silage, or 48% DM from alfalfa or red clover silage plus 12% DM from corn silage. The first three diets contained 2.9% soybean meal, and the red clover-corn silage diet contained 5.6% soybean meal; the 60% alfalfa diet contained 18.4% CP, and the other three diets averaged 16.5% CP. Nonprotein N in red clover silage was 62% of that in alfalfa silage. Intake of DM was about 2 (no corn silage) and 1 kg/d (plus corn silage) lower on red clover. Yield of milk and milk components was not different among the first three diets; however, yields of milk, total protein, and true protein were higher on red clover-corn silage with added soybean meal. Replacing alfalfa with red clover improved feed and N efficiency and apparent digestibility of DM, organic matter, neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber, and hemicellulose in both trials. Net energy of lactation computed from animal performance data was 18% greater in red clover than alfalfa. Data on milk and blood urea and N efficiency suggested better N utilization on red clover.  相似文献

The economic damage that results from aerobic deterioration of silage is a significant problem for farm profitability and feed quality. This paper quantifies the dry matter (DM) and nutritional losses that occur during the exposure of corn and sorghum silages to air over 14 d and assesses the possibility of enhancing the aerobic stability of silages through inoculation with lactic acid bacteria (LAB). The trial was carried out in Northern Italy on corn (50% milk line) and grain sorghum (early dough stage) silages. The crops were ensiled in 30-L jars, without a LAB inoculant (C), with a Lactobacillus plantarum inoculum (LP), and with a Lactobacillus buchneri inoculum (LB; theoretical rate of 1 × 106 cfu/g of fresh forage). The pre-ensiled material, the silage at silo opening, and the aerobically exposed silage were analyzed for DM content, fermentative profiles, yeast and mold count, starch, crude protein, ash, fiber components, 24-h and 48-h DM digestibility and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) degradability. The yield and nutrient analysis data of the corn and sorghum silages were used as input for Milk2006 to estimate the total digestible nutrients, net energy of lactation, and milk production per Mg of DM. The DM fermentation and respiration losses were also calculated. The inocula influenced the in vitro NDF digestibility at 24 h, the net energy for lactation (NEL), and the predicted milk yield per megagram of DM, whereas the length of time of air exposure influenced DM digestibility at 24 and 48 h, the NEL, and the predicted milk yield per megagram of DM in the corn silages. The inocula only influenced the milk yield per megagram of DM and the air exposure affected the DM digestibility at 24 h, the NEL, and the milk yield per megagram of DM in the sorghum silages. The milk yield, after 14 d of air exposure, decreased to 1,442, 1,418, and 1,277 kg/Mg of DM for C, LB, and LP corn silages, respectively, compared with an average value of 1,568 kg of silage at opening. In the sorghum silages, the milk yield, after 14 d of air exposure, decreased to 1,226, 1,278, and 1,250 kg/Mg of DM for C, LB, and LP, respectively. When the estimated milk yield per megagram of harvested DM of corn and sorghum silage were related to mold count, it was shown that the loss of potential milk production occurred when the mold count exceeded 4 log cfu/g of silage, and it was almost halved when the mold count reached values greater than 8 log cfu/g of silage. Inoculation with L. buchneri, at a rate of 1 × 106 cfu/g of fresh forage, enhanced the stability of the silage after exposure to air, and, consequently, contributed to maintaining the nutritional value of the harvested forage over time, for air exposure up to 7 d.  相似文献

Alfalfa was harvested as second-cutting regrowth herbage, ensiled either at low DM (direct-cut) or high DM (wilted), untreated or treated with .82 or .66% anhydrous NH3 (percentage of DM), respectively, and offered to four Holstein heifers. Silages low in DM had more gross energy and more NDF in DM than silages high in DM. Ammonia treatment increased total, soluble, rumen-insoluble, and NH3 N fractions in treated silages compared with those fractions in untreated silages. Ammonia treatment of low DM silage reduced digestible energy intake but increased intake of high DM silage. Digestibility of DM was lower by heifers fed low than high DM silages, but hemicellulose digestibility was higher. Tissue N retention was lower by heifers fed low than high DM silage. Dry matter and cell solubles digestibilities decreased for NH3-treated silages compared with digestibilities for untreated silages. Digested DM contained more digested NDF and cellulose for NH3-treated silages compared with untreated silages. Retained N was higher for heifers fed NH3-treated alfalfa than untreated alfalfa, particularly for the low DM silages. Wilting alfalfa was more effective in improving nutrient use by heifers than treatment with NH3, which improved preservation of plant protein through ensiling.  相似文献

Fifteen Holstein cows, 35 to 70 d postpartum, were assigned to five 3 x 3 Latin squares. Treatments were: control (60% concentrate, 40% corn silage, DM basis) or control supplemented with either .71% sodium bicarbonate or .65% sodium sesquicarbonate, DM basis. Orthogonal contrasts compared the effect of both buffered diets versus the control diet, and the effect of sodium bicarbonate supplementation vs. sodium sesquicarbonate supplementation. There were no differences among treatments for milk yield (34.9 kg/d), milk fat yield (.99 kg/d), 3.5% FCM (31.1 kg/d), or milk protein concentration (3.15%). There were no treatment effects on total chewing time. Milk fat concentration tended to be greater for cows fed sodium bicarbonate (2.92%) and sodium sesquicarbonate (2.89%) relative to control (2.82%). Relative to control, sodium bicarbonate and sodium sesquicarbonate supplementation increased DM intake (22.0 and 22.7 vs. 21.4 kg/d), digestible DM intake (16.7 and 16.2 vs. 14.8 kg/d), digestible organic matter intake (16.0 and 15.5 vs. 14.3 kg/d); and apparent digestibility of DM (77.3 and 74.8 vs. 73.3%) and NDF (62.6 and 56.5 vs. 54.7%). Relative to sesquicarbonate, bicarbonate supplementation increased apparent digestibilities of CP (82.3 vs. 78.8%) and NDF, and decreased milk protein yield (1.06 vs. 1.11 kg/d). Sesquicarbonate was as effective as bicarbonate in alleviating milk fat depression and increasing intake of digestible organic matter.  相似文献

Diets containing 50% of the dry matter (DM) as barley, cooked flaked maize, ground maize, cooked flaked potato, or 22% of the DM as raw potato had metabolisable energy (ME) values of 14.5, 15.2, 15.1, 15.1 and 14.5 MJ/kg DM respectively, and efficiencies of N retention of 0.40, 0.41, 0.42, 0.42 and 0.31. Cooking potato had a positive effect upon the ME value and the efficiency with which ingested nitrogen (N) was retained. Any single nutritive value for raw potato was considered inappropriate due to the influence of raw potato on the digestibility of other diet components. Pigs fed a diet containing cooked potato grew faster and converted feed to live weight more efficiently than pigs fed the same amount of a diet containing between 14 and 26% of the DM as raw potato. The presence of raw potato in diets was also found to reduce appetite. Cooking maize appeared to have only a small effect upon the nutritive value of maize. Pigs fed diets containing cooked flaked maize grew slightly faster than pigs fed ground maize.  相似文献

Four primiparous and 4 multiparous midlactation dairy cows were stratified by pre-experimental milk yield (23.5 ± 2.3 kg/d), protein yield (0.75 ± 0.066 kg/d), parity, and days in lactation (121 ± 10 d) into 4 groups of 2 in a 2 × 2 factorial, Latin square design (n = 8) to assess the effect of forage source and a supplementary methionine hydroxy analog on nitrogen (N) balance where low crude protein (CP) diets (13.3%) are offered. Diets contained either predominantly grass silage [GS (G− and G+)] or corn silage [CS (C− and C+)] as the forage source and were offered with (G+ and C+) or without (G− and C−) the isopropyl ester of 2-hydroxy-4 methylthio butanoic acid (HMBi). The G− and G+ contained 46% GS and 10% CS in the dry matter (DM), whereas C− and C+ contained 12% GS and 52% CS in the DM. Supplementary HMBi was included at a rate of 0.2% of DM in G+ and C+ diets. Diets were isonitrogenous (9.8 ± 0.4% protein truly digested in the small intestine) and isoenergetic (0.96 ± 0.01 units of energy for lactation; kg/DM). Each of the 4 experimental periods lasted 24 d: 14 d for dietary adaptation, followed by 10 d of housing in individual metabolism stalls; N balance was conducted on the last 5 d of each experimental period. Intake of DM was higher for CS-based vs. GS-based diets (20.23 vs. 18.41 kg/d). No effect of dietary treatment was found on milk yield or yields of milk fat, protein, and lactose. Supplementing with HMBi tended to improve milk solids yield (1.69 vs. 1.59 kg/d), casein yield (0.59 vs. 0.55 kg/d), and concentrations of casein (2.89 vs. 2.73%) and protein (3.58 vs. 3.49%) in the milk. Dietary N intake was higher for CS-based vs. GS-based diets (0.460 vs. 0.422 kg/d). However, forage source or supplementary HMBi had no effect on N excretion in the feces, urine, or milk. Excretion of urinary urea was positively related to N intake. Concentrations of urea N in the plasma (2.34 vs. 1.72 mmol/L), milk (2.54 vs. 2.24 mmol/L), and urine (123.32 vs. 88.79 mmol/L), and total excretion of urinary urea N (40.23 vs. 35.09 g/d) were higher for animals offered CS-based vs. GS-based diets. Corn silage improved N intake through improved DM intake. However, neither forage source nor HMBi supplementation affects N output in the feces, urine, or milk.  相似文献
