Multi-stage decision problems under uncertainty are abundant in process industries. Markov decision process (MDP) is a general mathematical formulation of such problems. Whereas stochastic programming and dynamic programming are the standard methods to solve MDPs, their unwieldy computational requirements limit their usefulness in real applications. Approximate dynamic programming (ADP) combines simulation and function approximation to alleviate the ‘curse-of-dimensionality’ associated with the traditional dynamic programming approach. In this paper, we present the ADP as a viable way to solve MDPs for process control and scheduling problems. We bring forth some key issues for its successful application in these types of problems, including the choice of function approximator and the use of a penalty function to guard against over-extending the value function approximation in the value iteration. Application studies involving a number of well-known control and scheduling problems, including dual control, multiple controller scheduling, and resource constrained project scheduling problems, point to the promising potentials of ADP. 相似文献

针对基于语言评价信息的群决策问题,提出了一种新的TOPSIS方法。依据传统的TOPSIS方法的基本思路,首先将语言决策矩阵转换为规范决策矩阵;其次,通过变量转换关系对有序语言短语集中的有序语言短语进行"量化",构造与原语言决策矩阵"等价的导出"决策矩阵,并利用算术加权平均算法对所得到的导出决策矩阵进行群的集结;然后对所得到的决策矩阵构造理想点和负理想点,计算每个方案的相对接近度,根据得到的相对接近度对方案进行排序从而确定最优方案。最后通过一个算例说明了该方法的有效性和实用性。 相似文献

Multistage adaptive stochastic mixed integer optimization under endogenous and exogenous uncertainty
To solve multistage adaptive stochastic optimization problems under both endogenous and exogenous uncertainty, a novel solution framework based on robust optimization technique is proposed. The endogenous uncertainty is modeled as scenarios based on an uncertainty set partitioning method. For each scenario, the adaptive binary decision is assumed constant and the continuous variable is approximated by a function linearly dependent on endogenous uncertain parameters. The exogenous uncertainty is modeled using lifting methods. The adaptive decisions are approximated using affine functions of the lifted uncertain parameters. In order to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed framework, a number of numerical examples of different complexity are studied and a case study for infrastructure and production planning of shale gas field development are presented. The results show that the proposed framework can effectively solve multistage adaptive stochastic optimization problems under both types of uncertainty. 相似文献

Designing sustainable alternatives for batch operations using an intelligent simulation–optimization framework 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The drive towards sustainability has compelled the batch process industries to implement the concept of environmentally friendly plants. However, the temporal nature of processing in these processes obviates the application of traditional waste minimization, material recycling, or energy integration schemes. Further, most of the existing methodologies for generating sustainable alternatives are restricted to specific problems, such as reaction byproduct, wastewater, or solvent minimization. In this paper, we propose an intelligent simulation–optimization framework for identifying comprehensive sustainable alternatives for batch processes. We differentiate between wastes generated by the reaction–separation process and cleaning wastes. A P-graph-based approach is used for identifying the root cause of process waste generation and generating broad design alternatives. Specific variable-level design solutions are then identified and evaluated using process simulation. The cleaning wastes resulting from the optimized process are also minimized using a source-sink allocation method that allows design of recycle network structure. A multi-objective stochastic optimization method is used to integrate the analysis so that the overall process economic and environmental footprint is optimized. We illustrate the proposed methodology using a well-known literature case study involving reaction, distillation and washing operation. 相似文献

Several energy intensive industries are contributing to air pollution problems. Cement industry, as an example, is one of these significant sources of several air pollutants and these must be monitored and controlled. This paper deals with five air pollutants from cement plants and these are SO2, NOx, CO2, dust, and volatile organic compounds (VOC). The purpose of this study is to evaluate several available technologies to control each pollutant. Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) technique is used as a decision support tool to find the best technology for each pollutant under multi‐criteria. These criteria are: cost, efficiency, lifetime or duration, and industry acceptability. The technique is illustrated in a case study from St. Marys Plant, located in St. Marys, Ontario, Canada. The results show that adsorption on activated coke technology will be recommended for SO2 reduction. For NOx reduction, the AHP suggests to apply selective non‐catalytic reduction (SNCR) technology based on the four criteria defined. Carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) using MEA technology is chosen for CO2 reduction. For dust reduction, bag filters should be used and increase oxygen concentration at the kiln inlet is the selected technology for VOC reduction. The current paper covers the set of criteria weights considered typical for cement plants. The results presented here are illustrative and user defined weighting is required to make this study valuable for a specific group of users. 相似文献
