Si3N4–SiCN composite ceramics were successfully fabricated through precursor infiltration pyrolysis (PIP) method using polysilazane as precursor and porous Si3N4 as preform. After annealed at temperatures varying from 900 °C to 1400 °C, the phase composition of SiCN ceramics, electrical conductivity and dielectric properties of Si3N4–SiCN composite ceramics over the frequency range of 8.2–12.4 GHz (X-band) were investigated. With the increase of annealing temperature, the content of amorphous SiCN decreases and that of N-doped SiC nano-crystals increases, which leads to the increase of electrical conductivity. After annealed at 1400 °C, the average real and imaginary permittivities of Si3N4–SiCN composite ceramics are increased from 3.7 and 4.68 × 10?3 to 8.9 and 1.8, respectively. The permittivities of Si3N4–SiCN composite ceramics show a typical ternary polarization relaxation, which are ascribed to the electric dipole and grain boundary relaxation of N-doped SiC nano-crystals, and dielectric polarization relaxation of the in situ formed graphite. The Si3N4–SiCN composite ceramics exhibit a promising prospect as microwave absorbing materials.  相似文献

Porous Si3N4–SiC composite ceramic was fabricated by infiltrating SiC coating with nano-scale crystals into porous β-Si3N4 ceramic via chemical vapor infiltration (CVI). Silica (SiO2) film was formed on the surface of rod-like Si3N4–SiC grains during oxidation at 1100 °C in air. The as-received Si3N4–SiC/SiO2 composite ceramic attains a multi-shell microstructure, and exhibits reduced impedance mismatch, leading to excellent electromagnetic (EM) absorbing properties. The Si3N4–SiC/SiO2 fabricated by oxidation of Si3N4–SiC for 10 h in air can achieve a reflection loss of ?30 dB (>99.9% absorption) at 8.7 GHz when the sample thickness is 3.8 mm. When the sample thickness is 3.5 mm, reflection loss of Si3N4–SiC/SiO2 is lower than ?10 dB (>90% absorption) in the frequency range 8.3–12.4 GHz, the effective absorption bandwidth is 4.1 GHz.  相似文献

Porous BN/Si3N4 composite ceramics with different BN contents have been fabricated by gel casting. The rheological behaviors of the suspensions, microstructure, mechanical properties, dielectric properties and critical temperature difference of thermal shock (ΔTC) of porous BN/Si3N4 composite ceramics with different BN contents were investigated. With BN contents increasing, the mechanical properties of the porous BN/Si3N4 composite ceramics were partially declined, but the dielectric properties and thermal shock resistances were enhanced at the same time. For the porous Si3N4 ceramic without BN addition, the porosity, flexural strength, dielectric constant and critical temperature difference were 48.1%, 128 MPa, 4.1 and 395 °C, while for the 10 vol% BN/Si3N4 porous composite ceramics, they were 49.4%, 106.6 MPa, 3.8, and 445 °C, respectively. The overall performance of the obtained porous BN/Si3N4 composite ceramics indicated that it could be one of the ideal candidates for high-temperature wave-transparent applications.  相似文献

In situ synthesis of Si2N2O/Si3N4 composite ceramics was conducted via thermolysis of novel polysilyloxycarbodiimide ([SiOSi(NCN)3]n) precursors between 1000 and 1500 °C in nitrogen atmosphere. The relative structures of Si2N2O/Si3N4 composite ceramics were explained by the structural evolution observed by electron energy-loss spectroscopy but also by Fourier transform infrared and 29Si-NMR spectrometry. An amorphous single-phase Si2N2O ceramic with porous structure with pore size of 10–20 μm in diameter was obtained via a pyrolyzed process at 1000 °C. After heat-treatment at 1400 °C, a composite ceramic was obtained composed of 53.2 wt.% Si2N2O and 46.8 wt.% Si3N4 phases. The amount of Si2N2O phase in the composite ceramic decreased further after heat-treatment at 1500 °C and a crystalline product containing 12.8 wt.% Si2N2O and 87.2 wt.% Si3N4 phases was obtained. In addition, it is interesting that residual carbon in the ceramic composite nearly disappeared and no SiC phase was observed in the final Si2N2O/Si3N4 composite.  相似文献

A flexible method is presented, which enables the fabrication of porous as well as dense Si3N4/nano-SiC components by using Si3N4 powder and a preceramic polymer (polycarbosilazane) as alternative ceramic forming binder. The SiCN polymer benefits consolidation as well as shaping of the green body and partially fills the interstices between the Si3N4 particles. Cross-linking of the precursor at 300 °C increases the mechanical stability of the green bodies and facilitates near net shape machining. At first, pyrolysis leads to porous ceramic bodies. Finally, subsequent gas pressure sintering results in dense Si3N4/nano-SiC ceramics. Due to the high ceramic yield of the polycarbosilazane binder, the shrinkage during sintering is significantly reduced from 20 to 15 lin.%. Investigations of the sintered ceramics reveal, that the microstructure of the Si3N4 ceramic contains approx. 6 vol.% nano-scaled SiC segregations, which are located both at the grain boundaries and as inclusions in the Si3N4 grains.  相似文献

Electrical resistivities, thermal conductivities and thermal expansion coefficients of hot-pressed ZrB2–SiC, ZrB2–SiC–Si3N4, ZrB2–ZrC–SiC–Si3N4 and HfB2–SiC composites have been evaluated. Effects of Si3N4 and ZrC additions on electrical and thermophysical properties of ZrB2–SiC composite have been investigated. Further, properties of ZrB2–SiC and HfB2–SiC composites have been compared. Electrical resistivities (at 25 °C), thermal conductivities (between 25 and 1300 °C) and thermal expansion coefficients (over 25–1000 °C) have been determined by four-probe method, laser flash method and thermo-mechanical analyzer, respectively. Experimental results have shown reasonable agreement with theoretical predictions. Electrical resistivities of ZrB2-based composites are lower than that of HfB2–SiC composite. Thermal conductivity of ZrB2 increases with addition of SiC, while it decreases on ZrC addition, which is explained considering relative contributions of electrons and phonons to thermal transport. As expected, thermal expansion coefficient of each composite is reduced by SiC additions in 25–200 °C range, while it exceeds theoretical values at higher temperatures.  相似文献

A novel ZrO2-SiO2 aerogels/porous Si3N4 ceramics composite with high strength, low density, good dielectric properties and low thermal conductivity was synthesized by filling ZrO2-SiO2 aerogels into the porous Si3N4 ceramics through vacuum sol-impregnating. The effects of aerogels on the microstructure and properties of composite were discussed. The results show that aerogels could form a mesoporous structure and significantly decrease the thermal conductivity from 9.8 to 7.3 W m?1 K?1. Meanwhile, the density, mechanical and dielectric properties of the porous Si3N4 ceramics could not be affected after introducing ZrO2-SiO2 aerogels. The composite exhibits high porosity (62.6%), high flexural strength (53.86 MPa) and low dielectric constant (2.86). The ZrO2-SiO2 aerogels/porous Si3N4 ceramics composite shows great potential as radome materials applied in the fields of aerospace.  相似文献

A two-step process has been developed for silicon carbide (SiC) coated polyurethane mimetic SiC preform containing silicon nitride (Si3N4) whiskers. SiC/Si3N4 preforms were prepared by pyrolysis/siliconization treatment at 1600 °C, of powder compacts containing rigid polyurethane, novolac and Si, forming a porous body with in situ grown Si3N4 whiskers. The properties were controlled by varying Si/C mole ratios such as 1–2.5. After densification using a chemical vapour infiltration, the resulting SiC/Si3N4/SiC composites showed excellent oxidation resistance, thermal conductivity of 4.32–6.62 Wm−1 K−1, ablation rate of 2.38 × 10−3  3.24 × 10−3 g cm−2 s and a flexural strength 43.12–55.33 MPa for a final density of 1.39–1.62 gcm−3. The presence of a Si3N4 phase reduced the thermal expansion mismatch resulting in relatively small cracks and well-bonded layers even after ablation testing. This innovative two-step processing can provide opportunities for expanded design for using SiC/Si3N4/SiC composites being lightweight, inexpensive, homogeneous and isotropic for various high temperature applications.  相似文献

To obtain better electromagnetic wave absorbing property, it is vitally necessary to develop novel ceramics with not only high dielectric loss but also low dielectric constant. Si3N4–SiBC, a composite ceramic with such dielectric properties, was fabricated by infiltrating SiBC into porous Si3N4 ceramic via low pressure chemical vapor infiltration. The high dielectric loss and the low dielectric constant are attributed to the unique microstructure of SiBC, which also leads to a very excellent wave-absorbing property of Si3N4–SiBC ceramic, attaining a minimal reflection coefficient of ?28 dB. Besides, the Si3N4–SiBC ceramic also shows a high mechanical property. Therefore, the Si3N4–SiBC ceramic exhibits great potential as an excellent functional and structural ceramic.  相似文献

The development of new composite fillers is crucial for joining ceramics or ceramics to metals because the composite fillers exhibit more advantages than traditional brazing filler metal. In this research, novel B4C reinforced Ag–Cu–Ti composite filler was developed to braze SiC ceramics. The interfacial microstructure of the joints was characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The effect of B4C addition and brazing temperature on the microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of the joints was analyzed. The results revealed that TiB whisker and TiC particles were simultaneously synthesized in the Ag-based solid solution and Cu-based solid solution due to the addition of B4C particles. As the brazing temperature increased, the thickness of Ti3SiC2+Ti5Si3 layers adjacent to SiC ceramic increased. Desirable microstructure similar to the metal matrix reinforced by TiB whisker and TiC particles could be obtained at brazing temperature of 950 °C. The maximum bending strength of 140 MPa was reached when the joints brazed at 950 °C for 10 min, which was 48 MPa (~52%) higher than that of the joints brazed using Ag–Cu–Ti filler.  相似文献

Stoichiometric Tantalum carbide (TaC) ceramics were prepared by reaction spark plasma sintering using 0.333–2.50 mol% Si3N4 as sintering aid. Effects of the Si3N4 addition on densification, microstructure and mechanical properties of the TaC ceramics were investigated. Si3N4 reacted with TaC and tantalum oxides such as Ta2O5 to form a small concentration of tantalum silicides, SiC and SiO2, with significant decrease in oxygen content in the consolidated TaC ceramics. Dense TaC ceramics having relative densities >97% could be obtained at 0.667% Si3N4 addition and above. Average grain size in the consolidated TaC ceramics decreased from 11 µm at 0.333 mol% Si3N4 to 4 µm at 2.50 mol% Si3N4 addition. The Young's modulus, Vickers hardness and flexural strength at room temperature of the TaC ceramic with 2.50 mol% Si3N4 addition was 508 GPa, 15.5 GPa and 605 MPa, respectively. A slight decrease in bending strength was observed at 1200 °C due to oxidation of the samples.  相似文献

Porous silicon nitride (Si3N4) ceramics incorporated with hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) and silica (SiO2) nanoparticles were fabricated by pressureless-sintering at relatively low temperature, in which stearic acid was used as pore-making agent. Bending strength at room and high temperatures, thermal shock resistance, fracture toughness, elastic modulus, porosity and microstructure were investigated in detail. The mechanical properties and thermal shock resistance behavior of porous Si3N4 ceramics were greatly influenced by incorporation of BN and SiO2 nanoparticles. Porous BN–SiO2–Si3N4 composites were successfully obtained with good critical thermal shock temperature of 800 °C, high bending strength (130 MPa at room temperature and 60 MPa at 1000 °C) and high porosity.  相似文献

The Co22.5Si77.5 (at.%) braze was used to bond porous Si3N4 ceramics. The effects of brazing temperature on microstructure and the bonding strength of the joint were studied. The results reveal that no visible reaction layer was observed. The corresponding joint strength was low. In order to improve the joint strength a carbon coated modification of the porous Si3N4 substrate was suggested. The impact of this modification on the joint properties was examined. It was established that a SiC reaction layer with a thickness from ∼15 μm to ∼65 μm was formed at the interface and SiC nanowires were observed when the temperature increased from 1280 °C to 1340 °C. The maximum shear strength of the carbon coated and uncoated joints were 115 MPa and 44 MPa, respectively. The significant improvement of the joint strength was attributed to the SiC reaction layer and a strengthening by the presence of SiC nanowires. .  相似文献

Camphene-based freeze casting technique was adopted to fabricate ZrB2–SiC porous ceramic with 3-dimensional (3D) pore network. ZrB2–SiC/camphene slurries (initial solid loading: 20 vol%, 25 vol% and 30 vol%) were prepared for freeze casting. Regardless of initial solid loading, the fabricated sample had dense/porous dual microstructure. The thickness of dense layer was about 200–300 μm. The microstructures of ZrB2–SiC porous ceramics were significantly influenced by the initial solid loading, which determines the pore size, porosity and mechanical properties of the final products.  相似文献

Thermal conductivity of Si3N4 containing large β-Si3N4 particles as seeds for grain growth was investigated. Seeds addition promotes growth of β-Si3N4 grains during sintering to develop the duplex microstructure. The thermal conductivity of the material sintered at 1900 °C improved up to 106 W m−1 K−1, although that of unseeded material was 77 Wm−1 K−1. Seeds addition leads to reduction of the sintering temperature with developing the duplex microstructure and with improving the thermal conductivity, which benefits in terms of production cost of Si3N4 ceramics with thermal conductivity. ©  相似文献

ZrB2–SiC composite ceramics were doped with 0, 1, 3 and 5 wt% Si3N4 plus 1.6 wt% carbon (pyrolized phenolic resin) as sintering aids and fabricated by hot pressing process under a relatively low pressure of 10 MPa at 1900 °C for 2 h. For a comparative study, similar ceramic compositions were also prepared by pressureless sintering route in the same processing conditions, with no applied external pressure. The effect of silicon nitride dopant on the microstructural evolution and sintering process of such ceramic composites was investigated by a fractographical approach as well as a thermodynamical analysis. The relative density increased by the addition of Si3N4 in hot pressed samples as a fully dense composite was achieved by adding 5 wt% silicon nitride. A reverse trend was observed in pressureless sintered composites and the relative density values decreased by further addition of Si3N4, due to the formation of gaseous products which resulted in the entrapment of more porosities in the final structure. The formation of ZrC phases in pressureless sintered samples and layered BN structures in hot pressed ceramics was detected by HRXRD method and discussed by fractographical SEM-EDS as well as thermodynamical analyses.  相似文献

To improve the thermal conductivity of Si3N4 ceramics, elimination of grain-boundary glassy phase by post-sintering heat-treatment was examined. Si3N4 ceramics containing SiO2–MgO–Y2O3-additives were sintered at 2123 K for 2 h under a nitrogen gas pressure of 1.0 MPa. After sintering, the SiO2 and MgO could be eliminated from the ceramics by vaporization during post-sintering heat-treatment at 2223 K for 8 h under a nitrogen gas pressure of 1.0 MPa. Thermal conductivity of 3 mass% SiO2, 3 mass% MgO and 1 mass% Y2O3-added Si3N4 ceramics increases from 44 to 89 Wm−1 K−1 by the decrease in glassy phase and lattice oxygen after the heat-treatment. Relatively higher fracture toughness (3.8 MPa m1/2) and bending strength (675 MPa) with high hardness (19.2 GPa) after the heat-treatment were achieved in this specimen. Effects of heat-treatment on microstructure and chemical composition were also observed, and compared with those of Y2O3–SiO2-added and Y2O3–Al2O3-added Si3N4 ceramics.  相似文献

Silicon nitride (Si3N4) ceramics offer excellent thermal, mechanical and dielectric properties, which make Si3N4 a good candidate material for an application as electronic packaging material. For an application as a heat dissipation substrate, most studies focused on achieving a high thermal conductivity through long-time heat preservation and different kinds of heat treatments. Very few studies also considered the mechanical and dielectric properties. In addition, there have not been systematic researches about influence of additives concentration and type on the combination properties of Si3N4. Therefore, in this study, Si3N4 ceramic samples were prepared via hot pressing at 1800 °C with a relatively short heat preservation step (2 h), with different amounts of Y2O3 added as sintering additive. The effect of the initial concentration of the rare earth oxide on the chemical composition, microstructure, thermal conductivity, as well as the mechanical and dielectric properties of the Si3N4 ceramic samples was systematically studied.  相似文献

Advanced silicon nitride (Si3N4) ceramics were fabricated using a mixture of Si3N4 and silicon (Si) powders via conventional processing and sintering method. These Si3N4 ceramics with sintering additives of ZrO2 + Gd2O3 + MgO were sintered at 1800 °C and 0.1 MPa in N2 atmosphere for 2 h. The effects of added Si content on density, phases, microstructure, flexural strength, and thermal conductivity of the sintered Si3N4 samples were investigated in this study. The results showed that with the increase of Si content added, the density of the samples decreased from 3.39 g/cm3 to 2.92 g/cm3 except for the sample without initial Si3N4 powder addition, while the thermal diffusivity of the samples decreased slightly. This study suggested that addition of Si powder, which varied from 0 to 100%, in the starting materials might provide a promising route to fabricate cost-effective Si3N4 ceramics with a good combination of mechanical and thermal properties.  相似文献

Porous fibrous mullite ceramics with a narrow range of pore size distribution have been successfully prepared utilizing a near net-shape epoxy resin gel-casting process by using mullite fibers, Al2O3 and SiC as raw materials. The effects of sintering temperatures, different amounts of fibers and Y2O3 additive on the phase compositions, linear shrinkage, apparent porosity, bulk density, microstructure, compressive strength and thermal conductivity were investigated. The results indicated that mullite-bonded among fibers were formed in the porous fibrous mullite ceramics with a bird nest pore structure. After determining the sintering temperatures and the amount of fibers, the tailored porous fibrous mullite ceramics had a low linear shrinkage (1.36–3.08%), a high apparent porosity (61.1–71.7%), a relatively high compressive strength (4.4–7.6 MPa), a low thermal conductivity (0.378–0.467 W/m K) and a narrow range of pore size distribution (around 5 µm). The excellent properties will enable the porous ceramics as a promising candidate for the applications of hot gas filters, thermal insulation materials at high temperatures.  相似文献
