Stabilization is one critical issue that needs to be improved for future application of colloidal quantum dot (QD)‐based light‐emitting diodes (QLEDs). This study reports highly efficient and stable QLEDs based on solution‐processsed, metal‐doped nickel oxide films as hole injection layer (HIL). Several kinds of metal dopants (Li, Mg, and Cu) are introduced to improve the hole injection capability of NiO films. The resulting device with Cu:NiO HIL exhibits superior performance compared to the state‐of‐the‐art poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene‐sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS)‐based QLEDs, with a maximum current efficiency and external quantum efficiency of 45.7 cd A?1 and 10.5%, respectively. These are the highest values reported so far for QLEDs with PEDOT:PSS‐free normal structure. Meanwhile, the resulting QLED shows a half‐life time of 87 h at an initial luminance of 5000 cd m?2, almost fourfold longer than that of the PEDOT:PSS‐based device.  相似文献

We demonstrate the maximum power conversion efficiency of 3.89% from organic photovoltaic cells using pentacene as a hole transport layer with PIN structure of ITO/poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)–poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS)-glycerol/pentacene/pentacene:C60/C60/BCP (bathocuproine)/Al under standard AM 1.5 illumination (100 mW/cm2). To achieve high power conversion efficiency, the optimization of thickness of pentacene and glycerol-doped poly(3,4-ethylenedioxy-thiophene)–poly(styrene sulfonate) (G-PEDOT:PSS) as well as pentacene:C60 (1:1) thin film as an active layer was accomplished. Our results show that the PIN structure with enlarged interface between pentacene and C60 thin films increases the power conversion efficiency of the devices than the PN devices. The morphology of pentacene thin film with various thicknesses and glycerol-doped PEDOT:PSS layers crucially affected the performance characteristics of pentacene-based photovoltaic cells.  相似文献

Interface engineering is critical to the development of highly efficient perovskite solar cells. Here, urea treatment of hole transport layer (e.g., poly(3,4‐ethylene dioxythiophene):polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS)) is reported to effectively tune its morphology, conductivity, and work function for improving the efficiency and stability of inverted MAPbI3 perovskite solar cells (PSCs). This treatment has significantly increased MAPbI3 photovoltaic performance to 18.8% for the urea treated PEDOT:PSS PSCs from 14.4% for pristine PEDOT:PSS devices. The use of urea controls phase separation between PEDOT and PSS segments, leading to the formation of a unique fiber‐shaped PEDOT:PSS film morphology with well‐organized charge transport pathways for improved conductivity from 0.2 S cm?1 for pristine PEDOT:PSS to 12.75 S cm?1 for 5 wt% urea treated PEDOT:PSS. The urea‐treatment also addresses a general challenge associated with the acidic nature of PEDOT:PSS, leading to a much improved ambient stability of PSCs. In addition, the device hysteresis is significantly minimized by optimizing the urea content in the treatment.  相似文献

For solution-processed quantum dot light-emitting devices (QD-LEDs), poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate/poly(N-vinylcarbozole) (PEDOT:PSS/PVK) bilayers have been widely used as the hole injection/transport layer. The high work function of the hole transport layer is crucial for high electroluminescence efficiency with balanced electron/hole charge injection. Herein, we report improvement of the performance of QD-LEDs by inserting a polyaniline (PANI)-poly (p-styrenesulfonic acid) (PSS) (PANI:PSS) hole-transport layer between the PVK and PEDOT:PSS layers. The insertion of the PANI:PSS layer significantly shifted the electronic energy levels of the PVK layers to lower values, which reduced the energy barrier of holes traveling to the QD layer by 0.22 eV. The QD-LEDs with PANI:PSS interlayer exhibited superior electric and electroluminescent characteristics. The hole-only devices with PANI:PSS interlayer also presented high hole injection and transport capability. Ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS) was used to investigate the electronic energy level alignment of the QD-LEDs with/without the PANI:PSS interlayer. The device performance results of QD-LEDs and hole-only devices indicated enhanced electric and electroluminescent characteristics for the PANI:PSS-inserted QD-LEDs with high hole conduction capability, in agreement with UPS findings.  相似文献

Isopropanol (IPA)-treated poly(3,4-ethylenedioxithiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) was applied as a new electron transport layer (ETL) in P3HT:PCBM bulk heterojunction polymer solar cell (BHJ-PSC) devices for the first time, revealing the electron transport property of IPA-treated PEDOT:PSS in sharp contrast to the well known hole transport property of the untreated PEDOT:PSS. Under the optimized condition for incorporating PEDOT:PSS ETL, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of the ITO/untreated PEDOT:PSS (HTL)/P3HT:PCBM/IPA-treated PEDOT:PSS (ETL)/Al device (3.09%) is quite comparable to that of the reference ITO/untreated PEDOT:PSS (HTL)/P3HT:PCBM/Al device without any ETL (3.06%), and an annealing treatment of PEDOT:PSS ETL at 120 °C for 10 min led to a PCE of 3.25%, which even slightly surpasses that of the reference device, revealing the electron transport property of IPA-treated PEDOT:PSS. The electron transport property of IPA-treated PEDOT:PSS is interpreted by the lowering of the work function of PEDOT:PSS upon IPA treatment and incorporation as ETL as probed by scanning Kelvin probe microscopy (SKPM).  相似文献

We report a study of the effects of polymer optoelectronic properties on the performance of photovoltaic devices consisting of nanocrystalline TiO2 and a conjugated polymer. Three different poly(2‐methoxy‐5‐(2′‐ethylhexoxy)‐1,4‐phenylenevinylene) (MEH‐PPV)‐based polymers and a fluorene–bithiophene copolymer are compared. We use photoluminescence quenching, time‐of‐flight mobility measurements, and optical spectroscopy to characterize the exciton‐transport, charge‐transport, and light‐harvesting properties, respectively, of the polymers, and correlate these material properties with photovoltaic‐device performance. We find that photocurrent is primarily limited by the photogeneration rate and by the quality of the interfaces, rather than by hole transport in the polymer. We have also studied the photovoltaic performance of these TiO2/polymer devices as a function of the fabrication route and device design. Including a dip‐coating step before spin‐coating the polymer leads to excellent polymer penetration into highly structured TiO2 networks, as was confirmed through transient optical measurements of the photoinduced charge‐transfer yield and recombination kinetics. Device performance is further improved for all material combinations studied, by introducing a layer of poly(ethylene dioxythiophene) (PEDOT) doped with poly(styrene sulfonic acid) (PSS) under the top contact. Optimized devices incorporating the additional dip‐coated and PEDOT:PSS layers produced a short‐circuit current density of about 1 mA cm–2, a fill factor of 0.50, and an open‐circuit voltage of 0.86 V under simulated AM 1.5 illumination (100 mW cm–2, 1 sun). The corresponding power conversion efficiency under 1 sun was ≥ 0.4 %.  相似文献

Multilayered polymer thin‐film solar cells have been fabricated by wet processes such as spin‐coating and layer‐by‐layer deposition. Hole‐ and electron‐transporting layers were prepared by spin‐coating with poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene) oxidized with poly(4‐styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) and fullerene (C60), respectively. The light‐harvesting layer of poly‐(p‐phenylenevinylene) (PPV) was fabricated by layer‐by‐layer deposition of the PPV precursor cation and poly(sodium 4‐styrenesulfonate) (PSS). The layer‐by‐layer technique enables us to control the layer thickness with nanometer precision and select the interfacial material at the donor–acceptor heterojunction. Optimizing the layered nanostructures, we obtained the best‐performance device with a triple‐layered structure of PEDOT:PSS|PPV|C60, where the thickness of the PPV layer was 11 nm, comparable to the diffusion length of the PPV singlet exciton. The external quantum efficiency spectrum was maximum (ca. 20%) around the absorption peak of PPV and the internal quantum efficiency was estimated to be as high as ca. 50% from a saturated photocurrent at a reverse bias of ?3 V. The power conversion efficiency of the triple‐layer solar cell was 0.26% under AM1.5G simulated solar illumination with 100 mW cm?2 in air.  相似文献

We present bulk heterojunction organic solar cells fabricated by spray‐casting both the PEDOT:PSS hole‐transport layer (HTL) and active PBDTTT‐EFT:PC71BM layers in air. Devices were fabricated in a (6 × 6) array across a large‐area substrate (25 cm2) with each pixel having an active area of 6.45 mm2. We show that the film uniformity and operational homogeneity of the devices are excellent. The champion device with spray cast active layer on spin cast PEDOT:PSS had an power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 8.75%, and the best device with spray cast active layer and PEDOT:PSS had a PCE of 8.06%. The impacts of air and light exposure of the active layer on device performance are investigated and found to be detrimental. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

It has recently been reported that, after electrical conditioning, an ohmic hole contact is formed in poly(9,9‐dioctylfluorene) (PFO)‐based polymer light‐emitting diodes (PLED), despite the large hole‐injection barrier obtained with a poly(styrene sulfonic acid)‐doped poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT:PSS) anode. We demonstrate that the initial current at low voltages in a PEDOT:PSS/PFO‐based PLED is electron dominated. The voltage at which the hole injection is enhanced strongly depends on the electron‐transport properties of the device, which can be modified by the replacement of reactive end groups by monomers in the synthesis. Our measurements reveal that the switching voltage of the PLED is governed by the electron concentration at the PEDOT:PSS/PFO contact. The switching effect in PFO is only observed for a PEDOT:PSS hole contact and not for other anodes such as indium tin oxide or Ag.  相似文献

The π‐conjugated organic small molecule 4,4′‐cyclohexylidenebis[N,N‐bis(4‐methylphenyl) benzenamine] (TAPC) has been explored as an efficient hole transport material to replace poly(3,4‐ethylenedio‐xythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) in the preparation of p‐i‐n type CH3NH3PbI3 perovskite solar cells. Smooth, uniform, and hydrophobic TAPC hole transport layers can be facilely deposited through solution casting without the need for any dopants. The power conversion efficiency of perovskite solar cells shows very weak TAPC layer thickness dependence across the range from 5 to 90 nm. Thermal annealing enables improved hole conductivity and efficient charge transport through an increase in TAPC crystallinity. The perovskite photoactive layer cast onto thermally annealed TAPC displays large grains and low residual PbI2, leading to a high charge recombination resistance. After optimization, a stabilized power conversion efficiency of 18.80% is achieved with marginal hysteresis, much higher than the value of 12.90% achieved using PEDOT:PSS. The TAPC‐based devices also demonstrate superior stability compared with the PEDOT:PSS‐based devices when stored in ambient circumstances, with a relatively high humidity ranging from 50 to 85%.  相似文献

The performance of organic electronic devices is often limited by injection. In this paper, improvement of hole injection in organic electronic devices by conditioning of the interface between the hole‐conducting layer (buffer layer) and the active organic semiconductor layer is demonstrated. The conditioning is performed by spin‐coating poly(9,9‐dioctyl‐fluorene‐coN‐ (4‐butylphenyl)‐diphenylamine) (TFB) on top of the poly(3,4‐ethylene dioxythiophene): poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) buffer layer, followed by an organic solvent wash, which results in a TFB residue on the surface of the PEDOT:PSS. Changes in the hole‐injection energy barriers, bulk charge‐transport properties, and current–voltage characteristics observed in a representative PFO‐based (PFO: poly(9,9‐dioctylfluorene)) diode suggest that conditioning of PEDOT:PSS surface with TFB creates a stepped electronic profile that dramatically improves the hole‐injection properties of organic electronic devices.  相似文献

In this paper, we report on the multilayer poly (fluorene) co-polymer red light-emitting devices (PLEDs) fabricated on flexible plastic substrates. An organic hole transport layer (HTL) is inserted between PEDOT:PSS hole injection (HIL) and light-emissive layers (LEL). Since the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) of the HTL is located between those of HIL and LEL, the insertion of HTL reduces the effective HOMO level offset between HIL and LEL, reducing the device operation voltage and producing comparable or better device efficiencies in comparison with the conventional PEDOT:PSS-only devices. Maximum emission efficiency, /spl sim/0.8 cd/A, power efficiency, /spl sim/0.7 lm/W, and external quantum efficiency, /spl sim/1.5%, have been obtained for multilayer red PLEDs.  相似文献

We report a simple processing method to simultaneously improve the efficiency and stability of organic solar cells (OSCs). Poly(4-styrene sulfonate)-doped poly(3,4-ethylenedioxy-thiophene (PEDOT:PSS), widely used as hole transport layer (HTL) in OSCs, tends to accelerate the degradation of devices because of its hygroscopic and acidic properties. In this regard, we have modified PEDOT:PSS to reduce its hygroscopic and acidic properties through a condensation reaction between PEDOT:PSS and poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether (PEGME) in order to improve the efficiency and stability of OSCs. As a result, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) increased by 21%, from 2.57% up to 3.11%. A better energy level alignment by the reduced work function of the modified PEDOT:PSS with a highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) level of poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) (P3HT) is considered the origin of the improved the efficiency. The half-life of OSCs with PEDOT:PSS modified with PEGME buffer layer also increased up to 3.5 times compared to that of devices with pristine PEDOT:PSS buffer layer.  相似文献

Conducting p-type polymer of poly(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) has been widely used for organic optoelectronics, particularly as a hole transport layer for organic solar cells. While the aged PEDOT:PSS dispersion impacts device performance, the aging of PEDOT:PSS dispersion have not been well investigated. Moreover, the recovery process of aged (two-year-old) PEDOT:PSS dispersion has not been demonstrated yet. Herein, it is found that aqueous PEDOT:PSS dispersion undergoes extensive phase separation during the aging process, resulting in both nanoscale and macroscale hydrophobic PEDOT-rich agglomerates. When the aged PEDOT:PSS thin film is integrated into P3HT:PCBM organic solar cells, the PEDOT-rich agglomerates trap the photogenerated holes at the PEDOT:PSS/P3HT interface, resulting in poor extraction efficiency in organic solar cells. To recover a hole transport functionality from aged PEDOT:PSS, three different solvents such as isopropyl alcohol (C3H7OH), ethanol (C2H5OH) and methanol (CH3OH) are investigated. Among them, it is found that isopropyl alcohol (IPA) yielded very uniform PEDOT:PSS thin film layer. This is because hydrophobic functional groups of IPA solvent facilitated the preferential solvation of phase separated hydrophobic PEDOT-rich agglomerates. However, when non-optimal concentration of IPA solvents was added into the aged PEDOT:PSS dispersion, the size of PEDOT-rich agglomerates was adversely enlarged. When organic solar cells were fabricated using more than a two-year-old PEDOT:PSS that was treated with IPA solvent, the resulting device performance of organic solar cells was fully recovered and became comparable or better than that of organic solar cells fabricated with fresh PEDOT:PSS.  相似文献

Bulk heterojunction organic solar cells have been fabricated by inserting a high-resistivity sol-gel ITO buffer layer between an ITO anode and a PEDOT:PSS hole injection layer. The performance of the devices with the sol-gel ITO atop the ITO anodes treated by conventional annealing at 500 °C for 1 h and rapid thermal process (RTP) at 800 °C for 20 and 30 s was compared. The best power conversion efficiency of 3.5% was achieved for the device with the 15-nm-thick sol-gel ITO treated with RTP at 800 °C for 30 s, as compared with 2.7% of the standard device under an illumination of AM 1.5. In addition, the short circuit current of the device was significantly increased by 42.7%. The observed enhancement of the short circuit current can be attributed an interfacial energy step created by the high-resistivity sol-gel ITO between the ITO anode and the PEDOT:PSS.  相似文献

The power‐conversion efficiency (PCE) of single‐junction organic solar cells (OSCs) has exceeded 16% thanks to the development of non‐fullerene acceptor materials and morphological optimization of active layer. In addition, interfacial engineering always plays a crucial role in further improving the performance of OSCs based on a well‐established active‐layer system. Doping of graphitic carbon nitride (g‐C3N4) into poly(3,4‐ethylene‐dioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) as a hole transport layer (HTL) for PM6:Y6‐based OSCs is reported, boosting the PCE to almost 16.4%. After being added into the PEDOT:PSS, the g‐C3N4 as a Bronsted base can be protonated, weakening the shield effect of insulating PSS on conductive PEDOT, which enables exposures of more PEDOT chains on the surface of PEDOT:PSS core‐shell structure, and thus increasing the conductivity. Therefore, at the interface between g‐C3N4 doped HTL and PM6:Y6 layer, the charge transport is improved and the charge recombination is suppressed, leading to the increases of fill factor and short‐circuit current density of devices. This work demonstrates that doping g‐C3N4 into PEDOT:PSS is an efficient strategy to increase the conductivity of HTL, resulting in higher OSC performance.  相似文献

Hybrid organic–inorganic halide perovskites have emerged at the forefront of solution‐processable photovoltaic devices. Being the perovskite precursor mixture a complex equilibrium of species, it is very difficult to predict/control their interactions with different substrates, thus the final film properties and device performances. Here the wettability of CH3NH3PbI3 (MAPbI3) onto poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) hole transporting layer is improved by exploiting the cooperative effect of graphene oxide (GO) and glucose inclusion. The glucose, in addition, triggers the reduction of GO, enhancing the conductivity of the PEDOT:PSS+GO+glucose based nanocomposite. The relevance of this approach toward photovoltaic applications is demonstrated by fabricating a hysteresis‐free MAPbI3 solar cells displaying a ≈37% improvement in power conversion efficiency if compared to a device grown onto pristine PEDOT:PSS. Most importantly, VOC reaches values over 1.05 V that are among the highest ever reported for PEDOT:PSS p‐i‐n device architecture, suggesting minimal recombination losses, high hole‐selectivity, and reduced trap density at the PEDOT:PSS along with optimized MAPbI3 coverage.  相似文献

Polymer solar cells (PSCs) are of great interest in the past decade owing to their potentially low-cost in the manufacturing by the solution-based roll to roll method. In this paper, a novel inverted device structure was introduced by inserting a high conductive PEDOT:PSS (hcPEDOT:PSS) layer between the Au nanoparticles (NPs)-embedded hole transport layer (PEDOT:PSS) and the top electrode layer. Power conversion efficiency (PCE) initially reached up to 4.51%, illustrating ∼10% higher compared with the device similarly enhanced by Au NPs plasmonics where only one PEDOT:PSS layer with the embedded Au NPs was used in single bulk heterojunction inverted PSCs based on the poly(3-hexylthiophene):[6,6]-phenyl C61-butyric acid methylester (P3HT:PCBM). The PCE was further improved from 4.51% to 5.01% by adding the high-boiling point solvent of 1,8-diiodooctane (DD) into the active layer, presenting ∼20% enhancement in PCE through dual effects of introducing the high boiling point solvent and the high conductive PEDOT:PSS layer. Morphologies of the active layers were characterised by SEM and AFM separately in the paper.  相似文献

One effective strategy to improve the performance of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) is to develop new hole transport layers (HTLs). In this work, a simple polyelectrolyte HTL, copper (II) poly(styrene sulfonate) (Cu:PSS), which comprises easily reduced Cu2+ counter-ions with an anionic PSS polyelectrolyte backbone is investigated. Photoelectron spectroscopy reveals an increase in the work function of the anode and upward band bending effect upon incorporation of Cu:PSS in PSC devices. Cu:PSS shows a synergistic effect when mixed with polyethylenedioxythiophene: polystyrenesulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) in various proportions and results in a decrease in the acidity of PEDOT:PSS as well as reduced hysteresis in completed devices. Cu:PSS functions effectively as a HTL in PSCs, with device parameters comparable to PEDOT:PSS, while mixtures of Cu:PSS with PEDOT:PSS shows greatly improved performance compared to PEDOT:PSS alone. Optimized devices incorporating Cu:PSS/PEDOT:PSS mixtures show an improvement in efficiency from 14.35 to 19.44% using a simple CH3NH3PbI3 active layer in an inverted (P-I-N) geometry, which is one of the highest values yet reported for this type of device. It is expected that this type of HTL can be employed to create p-type contacts and improve performance in other types of semiconducting devices as well.  相似文献

For realizing flexible perovskite solar cells (PSCs), it is important to develop low‐temperature processable interlayer materials with excellent charge transporting properties. Herein, a novel polymeric hole‐transport material based on 1,4‐bis(4‐sulfonatobutoxy)benzene and thiophene moieties (PhNa‐1T) and its application as a hole‐transport layer (HTL) material of high‐performance inverted‐type flexible PSCs are introduced. Compared with the conventionally used poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS), the incorporation of PhNa‐1T into HTL of the PSC device is demonstrated to be more effective for improving charge extraction from the perovskite absorber to the HTL and suppressing charge recombination in the bulk perovskite and HTL/perovskite interface. As a result, the flexible PSC using PhNa‐1T achieves high photovoltaic performances with an impressive power conversion efficiency of 14.7%. This is, to the best of our knowledge, among the highest performances reported to date for inverted‐type flexible PSCs. Moreover, the PhNa‐1T‐based flexible PSC shows much improved stability under an ambient condition than PEDOT:PSS‐based PSC. It is believed that PhNa‐1T is a promising candidate as an HTL material for high‐performance flexible PSCs.  相似文献
