Interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) composed of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm) were prepared by the sequential‐IPN method. The thermal characterization of the IPNs was investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and dielectric analysis (DEA). Depression of the melting temperature (Tm) of the PVA segment in IPNs was observed with increasing PNIPAAm content using DSC. DEA was employed to ascertain the glass‐transition temperature (Tg) of IPNs. From the result of DEA, IPNs exhibited two Tg values, indicating the presence of phase separation in the IPNs. The thermal decomposition of IPNs was investigated using TGA and appeared at near 200°C. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 90: 881–885, 2003  相似文献

Interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) hydrogels based on poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and 1‐vinyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (VP) were prepared by radical polymerization using 2,2‐dimethyl‐2‐phenylacetophenone (DMPAP) and methylene bisacrylicamide (MBAAm) as initiator and crosslinker, respectively. The thermal characterization of the IPNs was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and dielectric analysis (DEA). Depressions of the melting temperatures of PVA segments in IPNs were observed with increasing VP content via the DSC. The DEA was employed to ascertain the glass transition temperature (Tg) of IPNs. From the result of DEA, IPNs exhibited two Tgs indicating the presence of phase separation in the IPN. The thermal decomposition of IPNs was investigated using TGA and appeared at near 270°C. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 86: 1844–1847, 2002  相似文献

Poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm)/poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) semi‐interpenetrating polymer networks (semi‐IPNs) synthesized by radical polymerization of N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm) in the presence of PEO. The thermal characterizations of the semi‐IPNs were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and dielectric analysis (DEA). The melting temperature (Tm) of semi‐IPNs appeared at around 60°C using DSC. DEA was employed to ascertain the glass transition temperature (Tg) and determine the activation energy (Ea) of semi‐IPNs. From the results of DEA, semi‐IPNs exhibited one Tg indicating the presence of phase separation in the semi‐IPN, and Tgs of semi‐IPNs were observed with increasing PNIPAAm content. The thermal decomposition of semi‐IPNa was investigated using TGA and appeared at around 370°C. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 90: 3922–3927, 2003  相似文献

Temperature‐sensitive poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) hydrogels were successfully synthesized by using poly(ethylene oxide) as the interpenetrating agent. The newly prepared semi‐interpenetrating polymer network (semi‐IPN) hydrogels exhibited much better properties as temperature‐sensitive polymers than they did in the past. Characterizations of the IPN hydrogels were investigated using a swelling experiment, FTIR spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Semi‐IPN hydrogels exhibited a relatively high temperature dependent swelling ratio in the range of 23–28 at room temperature. DSC was used for the determination of the lower critical solution temperature of the semi‐IPN hydrogel. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 90: 3032–3036, 2003  相似文献

The phosphorylated poly(vinyl alcohol) (P‐PVA) samples with various substitution degrees were prepared through the esterification reaction of PVA and phosphoric acid. By using chitosan (CTS), acrylic acid (AA) and P‐PVA as raw materials, ammonium persulphate (APS) as an initiator and N,N‐methylenebisacrylamide as a crosslinker, the CTS‐g‐PAA/P‐PVA semi‐interpenetrated polymer network (IPN) ssuperabsorbent hydrogel was prepared in aqueous solution by the graft copolymerization of CTS and AA and followed by an interpenetrating and crosslinking of P‐PVA chains. The hydrogel was characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) techniques, and the influence of reaction variables, such as the substitution degree and content of P‐PVA on water absorbency were also investigated. FTIR and DSC results confirmed that PAA had been grafted onto CTS backbone and revealed the existence of phase separation and the formation of semi‐IPN network structure. SEM observations indicate that the incorporation of P‐PVA induced highly porous structure, and P‐PVA was uniformly dispersed in the polymeric network. Swelling results showed that CTS‐g‐PAA/P‐PVA semi‐IPN superabsorbent hydrogel exhibited improved swelling capability (421 g·g?1 in distilled water and 55 g·g?1 in 0.9 wt % NaCl solution) and swelling rate compared with CTS‐g‐PAA/PVA hydrogel (301 g·g?1 in distilled water and 47 g·g?1 in 0.9 wt % NaCl solution) due to the phosphorylation of PVA. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Semi‐interpenetrating polymer networks (semi‐IPNs) composed of poly(dimethyl–aminoethyl methacrylate) (PDMAEMA) and poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) were synthesized by γ‐radiation; three semi‐IPNs with 80 : 20, 90 : 10, and 95 : 5 weight ratios of DMAEMA/PEO were obtained by use of this technique. The gel–dose curves showed that the hydrogels were characterized by a structure typical of semi‐IPNs and the results of elemental analysis supported this point. The temperature‐induced phase transition of semi‐IPNs with the composition of 95 : 5 was still retained, with the lower critical solution temperature of PDMAEMA shifting from 40 to 27°C. The temperature sensitivity of the other two semi‐IPNs gradually disappeared. The pH sensitivity of three semi‐IPNs was still retained but the pH shifted slightly to lower values with increasing PEO content in the semi‐IPNs. The effect of PEO content in semi‐IPNs on their environmental responsiveness was discussed. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 92: 2995–3001, 2004  相似文献

Semi‐1 and semi‐2 interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) and in situ formed poly(ethyl acrylate) (PEA) have been synthesized using diallyl phthalate and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as the crosslinkers of PVC and PEA, respectively. These two types of IPNs have been compared with respect to their physical, mechanical, and thermal properties and an endeavor has been made to find a correlation of these properties with the morphology generated in these systems. The semi‐1 IPNs displayed a decrease in their tensile strength and modulus while in contrast; the semi‐2 IPNs exhibited a marginal increase with increasing crosslinked PEA incorporation. The semi‐1 and semi‐2 IPNs containing 10 and 30 wt % of PEA displayed a two‐stage degradation typical of PVC in their thermogravimetric and DSC studies while confirming the increased stability of the samples with higher percentages of PEA. The softening characteristics as detected by the extent of penetration of the thermomechanical probe as has been detected by thermomechanical analysis are in conformity with their mechanicals. The biphasic cocontinuous systems as explicit from the morphological studies reveal fibrillar characteristics in both the systems. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2009  相似文献

Semi‐interpenetrating polymer networks (semi‐IPNs) composed of a dicyanate resin and a poly(ether sulfone) (PES) were prepared, and their curing behavior and mechanical properties were investigated. The curing behavior of the dicyanate/PES semi‐IPN systems catalyzed by an organic metal salt was analyzed. Differential scanning calorimetry was used to study the curing behavior of the semi‐IPN systems. The curing rate of the semi‐IPN systems decreased as the PES content increased. An autocatalytic reaction mechanism was used to analyze the curing reaction of the semi‐IPN systems. The glass‐transition temperature of the semi‐IPNs decreased with increasing PES content. The thermal decomposition behavior of the semi‐IPNs was investigated. The morphology of the semi‐IPNs was investigated with scanning electron microscopy. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and poly(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA) were prepared by sequential method. The dynamic mechanical parameters of obtained IPNs and their variations with the structural composition were evaluated. The results for the IPNs were compared with corresponding physically blended systems. The tensile properties and damping factor (tan δ) were assessed by stress–strain measurement and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA), respectively. The glass–rubber transition temperature (Tg) was assessed by DMTA and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The results showed higher tensile strength and elongation at break for IPNs than those for physical blends. The shifts of Tg for that two components that make up the IPNs were greater than those for corresponding blends. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 86: 3480–3485, 2002  相似文献

Blends of two biodegradable semicrystalline polymers, poly(p‐dioxanone) (PPDO) and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) were prepared with different compositions. The thermal stability, phase morphology and thermal behavior of the blends were studied by using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). From the TGA data, it can be seen that the addition of PVA improves the thermal stability of PPDO. DSC analysis showed that the glass transition temperature (Tg) and the melting temperature (Tm) of PPDO in the blends were nearly constant and equal to the values for neat PPDO, thus suggesting that PPDO and PVA are immiscible. It was found from the SEM images that the blends were phase‐separated, which was consistent with the DSC results. Additionally, non‐isothermal crystallization under controlled cooling rates was explored, and the Ozawa theory was employed to describe the non‐isothermal crystallization kinetics. Copolymers composed of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) were crosslinked with chitosan to prepare semi‐interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) hydrogels by an ultraviolet (UV) irradiation method for application as potential biomedical materials. PVA/PDMS copolymer and chitosan was cast to prepare hydrogel films, followed by a subsequent crosslinking with 2,2‐dimethoxy‐2‐phenylacetophenone as a nontoxic photoinitiator by UV irradiation. Various semi‐interpenetrating polymer networks (semi‐IPNs) were prepared from different weight ratios of chitosan and the copolymer of PVA/PDMS. Photocrosslinked hydrogels exhibited an equilibrium water content (EWC) in the range of 65–95%. Swelling behaviors of these hydrogels were studied by immersion of the gels in various buffer solutions. Particularly, the PCN13 as the highest chitosan weight ratio in semi‐IPN hydrogels showed the highest EWC in time‐dependent and pH‐dependent swelling. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) constructed with poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and poly(diallyldimethyl ammonium chloride) (PDADMAC) using a sequential IPN method were prepared. The thermal characterization of the IPNs was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dielectric analysis (DEA), and thermogravimtric analysis (TGA). Decreases in the melting temperature of PVA segments in IPNs were observed with increasing PDADMAC content using DSC. DEA was employed to ascertain glass transition temperature of IPNs. The thermal decomposition of IPNs was investigated using TGA, and thermal decomposition of IPNs could be decelerated by changing PVA content. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Hydrogels with environment‐sensitive properties have great potential applications in the controlled drug release field. In this paper, hybrid hydrogels with semi‐interpenetrating polymer networks (semi‐IPNs), composed of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) as the thermo‐sensitive component by in situ polymerization and self‐assembled collagen nanofibrils as the pH‐sensitive framework, were prepared for controlled release of methyl violet as a model drug. From Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy, it was indicated that the crosslinking of PNIPAM in the presence of collagen nanofibrils led to the formation of semi‐IPNs with homogeneous porous structure, and the semi‐IPNs showed improved thermal stability and elastic properties compared with the native collagen as determined using differential scanning calorimetry and rheologic measurements. Furthermore, the semi‐IPNs possessed swelling behaviors quite different from those of neat collagen or PNIPAM hydrogel under various pH values and temperatures. Correspondingly, as expected, the drug release behavior in vitro for semi‐IPNs performed variously compared with that for single‐component semi‐IPNs, which revealed the tunable performance of semi‐IPNs for release ability. Finally the thermo‐ and pH‐responsive mechanism of the semi‐IPNs was illuminated to provide guidance for the application of the thermo‐ and pH‐sensitive collagen‐based hybrid hydrogels in controlled drug delivery systems. © 2019 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Semi‐ and full‐interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) were prepared using polyurethane (PUR) produced from a canola oil‐based polyol with primary terminal functional groups and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). The properties of the material were studied and compared using dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and tensile measurements. The morphology of the IPNs was investigated using atomic force microscopy (AFM). Semi‐IPNs demonstrated different thermal mechanical properties, mechanical properties, phase behavior, and morphology from full IPNs. Both types of IPNs studied are two‐phase systems with incomplete phase separation. However, the extent of phase separation is significantly more advanced in the semi‐IPNs compared with the full IPNs. All the semi‐IPNs exhibited higher values of elongation at break for all proportions of acrylate to polyurethane compared with the corresponding full IPNs. These differences are mainly due to the fact that in the case of semi‐IPNs, one of the constituting polymers remains linear, so that it exhibits a loosely packed network and relatively high mobility, whereas in the case of full IPNs, there is a higher degree of crosslinking, which restricts the mobility of the chains. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) hydrogels based on poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and poly(acrylamide‐co‐sodium methacrylate) poly(AAm‐co‐SMA) were prepared by the semi IPN method. These IPN hydrogels were prepared by polymerizing aqueous solution of acrylamide and sodium methacrylate, using ammonium persulphate/N,N,N1,N1‐tetramethylethylenediamine (APS/TMEDA) initiating system and N,N1‐methylene‐bisacrylamide (MBA) as a crosslinker in the presence of a host polymer, poly(vinyl alcohol). The influence of reaction conditions, such as the concentration of PVA, sodium methacrylate, crosslinker, initiator, and reaction temperature, on the swelling behavior of these IPNs was investigated in detail. The results showed that the IPN hydrogels exhibited different swelling behavior as the reaction conditions varied. To verify the structural difference in the IPN hydrogels, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to identify the morphological changes in the IPN as the concentration of crosslinker varied. In addition to MBA, two other crosslinkers were also employed in the preparation of IPNs to illustrate the difference in their swelling phenomena. The swelling kinetics, equilibrium water content, and water transport mechanism of all the IPN hydrogels were investigated. IPN hydrogels being ionic in nature, the swelling behavior was significantly affected by environmental conditions, such as temperature, ionic strength, and pH of the swelling medium. Further, their swelling behavior was also examined in different physiological bio‐fluids. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 98: 302–314, 2005  相似文献

Grafting of poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) and poly(lactide) (PLA) chains on poly(vinyl alcohol) backbone (PVA degree of hydrolysis 99%) was investigated using MgH2 environmental catalyst and melt‐grown ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of ε‐caprolactone (CL) and L ‐lactide (LA), that avoiding undesirable toxic catalyst and solvent. The ability of MgH2 as catalyst as well as yield of reaction were discussed according to various PVA/CL/MgH2 and PVA/LA/MgH2 ratio. PVA‐g‐PCL and PVA‐g‐PLA were characterized by 1H‐ and 13C‐NMR, DSC, SEC, IR. For graft copolymers easily soluble in tetrahydrofuran (THF) or chloroform, wettability and surface energy of cast film varied in relation with the length and number of hydrophobic chains. Aqueous solution of micelle‐like particles was realized by dissolution in THF then addition of water. Critical micelle concentration (CMC) decreased with hydrophobic chains. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2009  相似文献

Semi1 and semi2 interpenetrating polymer networks of poly(vinyl chloride) PVC and in situ formed poly(butyl acrylate) (PBA) have been synthesized and characterized using diallyl phthalate (DAP) and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDM) as the crosslinkers of PVC and PBA, respectively. These two types of IPNs have been compared with respect to their mechanical and thermal properties. The semi1 IPNs displayed a decrease in their mechanical parameters and the physical properties as well, while in contrast, the semi2 IPNs exhibited a marginal increase in the corresponding values when compared to the crosslinked PVC in the case of semi1 IPN and linear PVC in case of semi2 IPN. The representative samples of semi1 and semi2 IPNs revealed a two‐stage‐degradation typical of PVC while confirming the increased stability of the samples with higher onset temperature of degradation. The softening characteristics as detected by thermomechanical analysis are in conformity with their mechanicals. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2008  相似文献

This article describes the synthesis and characterization of interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) from hydrophilic and hydrophobic polymers using emulsification technique. Tween 20 (0.001 wt % of gelatin) was employed as emulsifier for the preparation of semi and full IPNs. Gelatin (G), a hydrophilic component was crosslinked by glutaraldehyde (Glu) and divinyl ester (DVE), a hydrophobic component was polymerized/crosslinked using 3 mol % of AIBN as an initiator. Structural characterization was done using FTIR (doublet at 1620 and 1636 cm?1) and NMR (signals in the range of δ = 5–7 ppm), which confirmed the formation of DVE. Several samples were prepared by varying the ratio of gelatin : DVE (w/w) and the Glu concentration. The swelling characteristics (as a function of varying pH maintained using buffers) and degradation behavior (in phosphate buffer saline pH 7.4) of hydrogels was studied to investigate the effect of composition and crosslinker concentration. Percent water uptake decreased from 496 to 181 at pH 7.4 and pH 6.5 in IPNs as the concentration of DVE increased from 0.3 g to 0.7 g per g of gelatin. Semi‐IPNs, where DVE was not polymerized, demonstrated higher swelling at pH 7.4 in contrast to pH 6.5 irrespective of Glu concentration. Gelatin hydrogels degraded within 180 h and IPNs degraded within 290 h whereas DVE did not degrade till the study period of 20 days. The formation of IPN was confirmed by thermal characterization (DSC, TGA) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Observation of cross‐sectional microstructure of disrupted honeycomb of Gx into closely packed fiber‐like structure upon interpenetration by SEM clearly suggests the formation of IPN. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Semi‐1 and semi‐2 interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) and in situ formed poly(butyl methacrylate) (PBMA) have been synthesized using diallyl phthalate and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as the crosslinkers of PVC and PBMA, respectively. These were then characterized with reference to their mechanical, thermal, and morphological properties. The mechanical and thermal characteristics revealed modification over the unmodified polymeric systems in relation to their phase morphologies. The semi‐1 IPNs displayed a decrease in their mechanical parameters of modulus and UTS while semi‐2 IPNs exhibited a marginal increase in these two values. The semi‐1 IPNs, however, also revealed a decrease in the elongation and toughness values away from the normal behavior. The thermomechanical behavior of both the systems is in conformity with their mechanicals in displaying the softening characteristics of the system and stabilization over unmodified PVC. The DSC thermograms are also correlated to these observations along with the heterogeneous phase morphology which is displayed by both the systems especially at higher concentration of PBMA incorporation. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Blends of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), poly(acrylic acid), (PAA), and poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP), with poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM), were prepared by casting from aqueous solutions. Mechanical properties of PNIPAM/PVA blends were analyzed by stress–strain tests. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were employed to analyze the miscibility between the polymeric pairs. The results revealed that PNIPAM is not miscible with PVA and PVP in the whole range of composition. On the other hand, PNIPAM interacts strongly with PAA forming interpolymer complex due to the formation of cooperative hydrogen bonds. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
