Technical enforcemment of intellectual property (IP) rights often conflicts with the ability to use the IP. This is especially true when the IP is data, which may eaisly be copied while it is being accessed. As electronic commerce of data becomes more widespread, traditional approaches will prove increasingly problematic. In this paper, we show that the mobile agent architecture is an ideal solution to this dilemma: by providing full access to the data but charging for the transmission of results back to the user-reslts-based billing-we resulve the access versus protection conflict. We define new requirements for agent frameworks to implement results-based billing: data-aware accounting and data-tight sandboxing, which, along with the common requirements such as authentication, authorisation, agen self-monitoring, and efficiency, provide the mechanisms by which database owners can effectively grant users access to their intellectual property.  相似文献

Given a finite setE R n, the problem is to find clusters (or subsets of similar points inE) and at the same time to find the most typical elements of this set. An original mathematical formulation is given to the problem. The proposed algorithm operates on groups of points, called samplings (samplings may be called multiple centers or cores); these samplings adapt and evolve into interesting clusters. Compared with other clustering algorithms, this algorithm requires less machine time and storage. We provide some propositions about nonprobabilistic convergence and a sufficient condition which ensures the decrease of the criterion. Some computational experiments are presented.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the numerical solution of a model equation u xx = exp(– ) (and several slightly more general problems) when 1 using the standard central difference scheme on nonuniform grids. In particular, we are interested in the error behaviour in two limiting cases: (i) the total mesh point number N is fixed when the regularization parameter 0, and (ii) is fixed when N. Using a formal analysis, we show that a generalized version of a special piecewise uniform mesh 12 and an adaptive grid based on the equidistribution principle share some common features. And the optimal meshes give rates of convergence bounded by |log()| as 0 and N is given, which are shown to be sharp by numerical tests.  相似文献

This paper presents algorithms for multiterminal net channel routing where multiple interconnect layers are available. Major improvements are possible if wires are able to overlap, and our generalized main algorithm allows overlap, but only on everyKth (K 2) layer. Our algorithm will, for a problem with densityd onL layers,L K + 3,provably use at most three tracks more than optimal: (d + 1)/L/K + 2 tracks, compared with the lower bound of d/L/K. Our algorithm is simple, has few vias, tends to minimize wire length, and could be used if different layers have different grid sizes. Summary We propose and compare two induction principles called always and sometime for proving inevitability properties of programs. They are respective formalizations and generalizations of Floyd invariant assertions and Burstall intermittent assertions methods for proving total correctness of sequential programs whose methodological advantages or disadvantages have been discussed in a number of previous papers. Both principles are formalized in the abstract setting of arbitrary nondeterministic transition systems and illustrated by appropriate examples. The sometime method is interpreted as a recursive application of the always method. Hence always can be considered as a special case of sometime. These proof methods are strongly equivalent in the sense that a proof by one induction principle can be rewritten into a proof by the other one. The first two theorems of the paper show that an invariant for the always method can be translated into an invariant for the sometime method even if every recursive application of the later is required to be of finite length. The third and main theorem of the paper shows how to translate an invariant for the sometime method into an invariant for the always method. It is emphasized that this translation technique follows the idea of transforming recursive programs into iterative ones. Of course, a general translation technique does not imply that the original sometime invariant and the resulting always invariant are equally understandable. I discuss the attitude of Jewish law sources from the 2nd–:5th centuries to the imprecision of measurement. I review a problem that the Talmud refers to, somewhat obscurely, as impossible reduction. This problem arises when a legal rule specifies an object by referring to a maximized (or minimized) measurement function, e.g., when a rule applies to the largest part of a divided whole, or to the first incidence that occurs, etc. A problem that is often mentioned is whether there might be hypothetical situations involving more than one maximal (or minimal) value of the relevant measurement and, given such situations, what is the pertinent legal rule. Presumption of simultaneous occurrences or equally measured values are also a source of embarrassment to modern legal systems, in situations exemplified in the paper, where law determines a preference based on measured values. I contend that the Talmudic sources discussing the problem of impossible reduction were guided by primitive insights compatible with fuzzy logic presentation of the inevitable uncertainty involved in measurement. I maintain that fuzzy models of data are compatible with a positivistic epistemology, which refuses to assume any precision in the extra-conscious world that may not be captured by observation and measurement. I therefore propose this view as the preferred interpretation of the Talmudic notion of impossible reduction. Attributing a fuzzy world view to the Talmudic authorities is meant not only to increase our understanding of the Talmud but, in so doing, also to demonstrate that fuzzy notions are entrenched in our practical reasoning. If Talmudic sages did indeed conceive the results of measurements in terms of fuzzy numbers, then equality between the results of measurements had to be more complicated than crisp equations. The problem of impossible reduction could lie in fuzzy sets with an empty core or whose membership functions were only partly congruent. Reduction is impossible may thus be reconstructed as there is no core to the intersection of two measures. I describe Dirichlet maps for fuzzy measurements of distance as a rough partition of the universe, where for any region A there may be a non-empty set of - _A (upper approximation minus lower approximation), where the problem of impossible reduction applies. This model may easily be combined with probabilistic extention. The possibility of adopting practical decision standards based on -cuts (and therefore applying interval analysis to fuzzy equations) is discussed in this context. I propose to characterize the uncertainty that was presumably capped by the old sages as U-uncertainty, defined, for a non-empty fuzzy set A on the set of real numbers, whose -cuts are intervals of real numbers, as U(A) = 1/h(A) 0 h(A) log [1+(A)]d, where h(A) is the largest membership value obtained by any element of A and (A) is the measure of the -cut of A defined by the Lebesge integral of its characteristic function.  相似文献

In 1958 J. Lambek introduced a calculusL of syntactic types and defined an equivalence relation on types: x y means that there exists a sequence x=x1,...,xn=y (n 1), such thatx i x i+1 or xi+ x i (1 i n). This paper gives an effective characterization of this equivalence for the Lambeck calculiL andLP, and for the multiplicative fragments of Girard's and Yetter's linear logics. A well-known problem in default logic is the ability of naive reasoners to explain bothg and ¬g from a set of observations. This problem is treated in at least two different ways within that camp.One approach is examination of the various explanations and choosing among them on the basis of various explanation comparators. A typical comparator is choosing the explanation that depends on the most specific observation, similar to the notion of narrowest reference class.Others examine default extensions of the observations and choose whatever is true in any extension, or what is true in all extensions or what is true in preferred extensions. Default extensions are sometimes thought of as acceptable models of the world that are discarded as more knowledge becomes available.We argue that the notions of specificity and extension lack clear semantics. Furthermore, we show that the problems these ideas were supposed to solve can be handled easily within a probabilistic framework.  相似文献

A multicriterion optimization method is proposed for complex systems with parameters ranked by descending importance. The paper describes an improved algorithm for computing cohomologies of Lie (super)algebras. The original algorithm developed earlier by the author of this paper is based on the decomposition of the entire cochain complex into minimal subcomplexes. The suggested improvement consists in the replacement of the arithmetic of rational or integer numbers by a more efficient arithmetic of modular fields and the use of the relationship dim H k( p) dimH k() between the dimensions of cohomologies over an arbitrary modular field p = /p and the filed of rational numbers . This inequality allows us to rapidly find subcomplexes for which dimH k( p) > 0 (the number of such subcomplexes is usually not great) using computations over an arbitrary p and, then, carry out all required computations over in these subcomplexes.  相似文献

The order 2 is used to give to the word (, 1) itsindividual hierarchical representation (syntactic structure) which may be a tree but it may be also more general than a tree. In this paper we introducecontext-free grammars for texts and investigate their basic properties. Since each text has its own individual structure, the role of such a grammar should be that of a definition of a pattern common to all individual texts. This paper studies the convergence properties of a general class of decomposition algorithms for support vector machines (SVMs). We provide a model algorithm for decomposition, and prove necessary and sufficient conditions for stepwise improvement of this algorithm. We introduce a simple rate certifying condition and prove a polynomial-time bound on the rate of convergence of the model algorithm when it satisfies this condition. Although it is not clear that existing SVM algorithms satisfy this condition, we provide a version of the model algorithm that does. For this algorithm we show that when the slack multiplier C satisfies 1/2 C mL, where m is the number of samples and L is a matrix norm, then it takes no more than 4LC 2 m 4/ iterations to drive the criterion to within of its optimum.  相似文献

The token distribution (TD) problem, an abstract static variant of load balancing, is defined as follows: letM be a (parallel processor) network with setP of processors. Initially, each processorP P has a certain amountl(P) of tokens. The goal of a TD algorithm, run onM, is to distribute the tokens evenly among the processors. In this paper we introduce the notion of strongly adaptive TD algorithms, i.e., algorithms whose running times come close to the best possible runtime, the off-line complexity of the TD problem, for each individual initial token distributionl. Until now, only weakly adaptive algorithms have been considered, where the running time is measured in terms of the maximum initial load max{l(P)P P}.We design an almost optimal, strongly adaptive algorithm on mesh-connected networks of arbitrary dimension extended by a single 1-bit bus. This result shows that an on-line TD algorithm can come close to the optimal (off-line) bound for each individual initial load. Furthermore, we exactly characterize the off-line complexity of arbitrary initial token distributions on arbitrary networks. By means ofParallel Coordinates planar graphs of multivariate relations are obtained. Certain properties of the relationship correspond tothe geometrical properties of its graph. On the plane a point line duality with several interesting properties is induced. A new duality betweenbounded and unbounded convex sets and hstars (a generalization of hyperbolas) and between Convex Unions and Intersections is found. This motivates some efficient Convexity algorithms and other results inComputational Geometry. There is also a suprising cusp inflection point duality. Agent-based technology has been identified as an important approach for developing next generation manufacturing systems. One of the key techniques needed for implementing such advanced systems will be learning. This paper first discusses learning issues in agent-based manufacturing systems and reviews related approaches, then describes how to enhance the performance of an agent-based manufacturing system through learning from history (based on distributed case-based learning and reasoning) and learning from the future (through system forecasting simulation). Learning from history is used to enhance coordination capabilities by minimizing communication and processing overheads. Learning from the future is used to adjust promissory schedules through forecasting simulation, by taking into account the shop floor interactions, production and transportation time. Detailed learning and reasoning mechanisms are described and partial experimental results are presented.  相似文献

Zusammenfassung Die für lineare Gleichungssysteme bekannten Sätze über die Konvergenz von Successive overrelaxation methods (SOR) und Alternating direction methods (ADI) werden auf analoge Verfahren bei nichtlinearen Gleichungssystemen übertragen. Dabei können allerdings, wie auch bei anderen Iterationsverfahren für nichtlineare Probleme, nur sogenannte lokale Konvergenz-sätze bewiesen werden. Es wird weiter untersucht, wann es Differenzapproximationen für nichtlineare elliptische Differentialgleichungen gibt, derart, daß die Funktionalmatrix des resultierenden nichtlinearen Gleichungssystems symmetrisch und positiv definit ist. Dann konvergieren SOR für 0<<2 und ADI. Solche Approximationen können zumindest für allgemeinere halblineare Gleichungen hergeleitet werden, wenn die DifferentialgleichungEulersche Gleichung eines Variationsproblems ist. Am Schluß findet sich ein Beispiel.
Iterative solutions for systems of non-linear equation and discretisation of elliptic differential equations
Summary The theorems, known for systems of linear equations, on the convergence of Successive overrelaxation methods (SOR) and Alternating direction methods (ADI) are transferred to analogous methods for systems of nonlinear equations. In doing so, only so-called local convergence theorems can be proved, however, as it is the case with other iteration procedures for nonlinear problems. Furthermore, it is examined under what conditions there exist difference approximations for nonlinear elliptic differential equations, such as to the functional matrix of the resulting system of nonlinear equations being symmetric and positive definite. SOR for 0<<2 and ADI are then converging. Such approximations can be derived at least for more general semilinear equations if the differential equation is theEuler equation of a variational problem. Finally, an example is given.
