The objectives of this study were to determine the optimal extraction conditions of polyphenols from Syzygium cumini seeds by response surface methodology and investigate their antioxidant activity and inhibition on α-amylase and pancreatic lipase. As results, the optimal extraction conditions in the ultrasonic extraction process which maximised total polyphenols content, minimised the IC50 values of α-amylase and pancreatic lipase were determined as follows: extraction time 60 min, ethanol concentration 63% and solvent/solid ratio 44 mL g−1. The main phenolic compounds in partially purified fraction of Syzygium cumini seeds were catechin, epicatechin, kaempferol, gallic, 5-caffeoylquinic, caffeic and ferulic acids. In addition, the partially purified fraction inhibited 87.66 ± 5.55 and 86.61 ± 3.15% of α-amylase and pancreatic lipase, respectively. The results suggested that Syzygium cumini seeds could be explored as a natural antioxidant and could be used as a source of highly antidiabetic and anti-obesity bioactive compounds.  相似文献

Cymbopogon schoenanthus L. Spreng, is an aromatic herb consumed in salads and used to prepare traditional meat recipes in Tunisia. The chemical composition, antioxidant activities and acetylcholinesterase inhibitory properties of the essential oils from fresh leaves, dried leaves and roots collected from three different locations in southern Tunisia, were evaluated. Essential oils were analysed by GC–mass spectrometry and 13C NMR. The major components were limonene (10.5–27.3%), β-phellandrene (8.2–16.3%), δ-terpinene (4.3–21.2%) and α-terpineol (6.8–11.0%). Antioxidant activity was measured by DPPH assay. The results ranged from 36.0% to 73.8% (2 μl of essential oil per mL of test solution).  相似文献

The decomposition of H(2)O(2) on iron minerals can generate ?OH, a strong oxidant that can transform a wide range of contaminants. This reaction is critical to In Situ Chemical Oxidation (ISCO) processes used for soil and groundwater remediation, as well as advanced oxidation processes employed in waste treatment systems. The presence of dissolved silica at concentrations comparable to those encountered in natural waters decreases the reactivity of iron minerals toward H(2)O(2), because silica adsorbs onto the surface of iron minerals and alters catalytic sites. At circumneutral pH values, goethite, amorphous iron oxide, hematite, iron-coated sand, and montmorillonite that were pre-equilibrated with 0.05-1.5 mM SiO(2) were significantly less reactive toward H(2)O(2) decomposition than their original counterparts, with the H(2)O(2) loss rates inversely proportional to SiO(2) concentrations. In the goethite/H(2)O(2) system, the overall ?OH yield, defined as the percentage of decomposed H(2)O(2) producing ?OH, was almost halved in the presence of 1.5 mM SiO(2). Dissolved SiO(2) also slowed H(2)O(2) decomposition on manganese(IV) oxide. The presence of dissolved SiO(2) results in greater persistence of H(2)O(2) in groundwater and lower H(2)O(2) utilization efficiency and should be considered in the design of H(2)O(2)-based treatment systems.  相似文献

The short-term satiating effect of whey protein intake is higher than that obtained with other dietary proteins. The molecular basis underlying the secretagogue effect of whey proteins on the release of cholecystokinin, a gut hormone involved in appetite suppression, has not been deeply investigated. Using STC-1 enteroendocrine cells we analysed the effects of synthetic peptides and protein hydrolysates. The hypothesis that specific molecular features in terms of short amino acid sequences released after enzymatic digestion may exert a primary role in the cholecystokinin secretagogue activity of dietary proteins was not supported. However, the length of the peptide fragments derived from a protein during enzymatic digestion is relevant to this activity. Regarding the complexities of how food can interact with different cellular systems, our data suggest a novel biological activity of ALPMH, a known bioactive peptide product of β-lactoglobulin digestion, on cell growth and a related signalling pathway in osteoblast-like cells.  相似文献
