The estimating process of pile construction productivity and cost is intricated because of several factors: unseen subsurface obstacles; lack of contractor experience; site planning; and pile equipment maintainability. This study intends to assess cycle time, productivity, and cost for pile construction considering the effect of the above factors using regression technique. Data were collected through designated questionnaires, site interviews, and telephone calls to experts in different construction companies. Many variables have been considered in the pile construction process. Seven regression linear models have been designed and validated to assess productivity, cycle time, and cost. Consequently, three sets of charts have been developed based upon the validated models to provide the decision maker with a solid planning, scheduling, and control tool for pile construction projects. This research is relevant to both industry practitioners and researchers. It provides sets of charts and models for practitioners’ usage to schedule and price out pile construction projects. In addition, it provides the researchers with the methodology of designating regression models for the pile construction process, its limitations, and future suggestions.  相似文献

Airport expansion projects often require the presence and movement of construction labor and equipment near critical airport traffic areas. This close proximity between construction activities and airport operations needs to be carefully considered during the planning of construction site layouts in order to minimize and eliminate all potential construction-related hazards to aviation safety. This paper presents the development of a multiobjective optimization model for planning airport construction site layouts that is capable of minimizing construction-related hazards and minimizing site layout costs, simultaneously. The model incorporates newly developed optimization functions and metrics that enable: (1) maximizing the control of hazardous construction debris near airport traffic areas; (2) minimizing site layout costs including the travel cost of construction resources and the cost of debris control measures on airport sites; and (3) satisfying all operational safety constraints required by the federal aviation administration as well as other practical site layout constraints. The model is implemented using a multiobjective genetic algorithm and an application example is analyzed to demonstrate the use of the model and its capabilities in optimizing construction site layouts in airport expansion projects.  相似文献

A highway construction site was monitored to determine the effectiveness of a temporary sediment control (rock-filter dam) that was part of the pollution prevention plan that protected storm water from leaving the site. Selected water quality parameters were monitored along with solids-specific parameters. The results were compared in a before-during-after approach and an upstream-downstream approach using a two-sample t test for differences in the mean values during the different construction phases or locations. Construction activity caused a six-fold increase in total solids leaving the construction site during construction, as compared to preconstruction values. Construction activity had an effect on the distribution of particles in a suspension leaving the construction site. The solids control device, a rock-filter dam, had an effect on the particle-size distribution of suspended particles, but—in upstream-downstream analysis—did not produce a significant difference in solids leaving the construction site.  相似文献
