Thirty six rapeseed samples from a factorial designed nitrogen and sulphur trial were analysed for total glucosinolate content by the X-ray fluorescence (X-RF) and HPLC methods and for protein content by the Kjeldahl method. Protein content varied from 16.0 to 22.6%. Correction for seed protein content in the calculation of glucosinolate content by X-RF significantly improved the agreement between the two methods of glucosinolate analysis. The following equation was used in the correction: Y = 14.99 [S(mg g?1)-protein %/7.5]. 相似文献

The mechanism of oxidation of 4-hydroxyindolyl-3-methyl glucosinolate (4-hydroxyglucobrassicin) has been investigated using 4-hydroxyindole as a model compound. Some protocols based on standard methods for the determination of oil in rapeseed by solvent extraction are compared. Test portions of whole seed give unacceptably poor repeatability in results and ground samples should be used for analysis. Moisture content of rapeseed can equally well be determined on ground as on whole seed. The standard methods require modification to take account of these findings. 相似文献

The effects of crusning and of heat-treatment of high-glucosinolate rapeseed (cv. Jet Neuf) by infrared, microwave or hot-air oven upon the utilisation of protein and upon the anti-thyroid activity, measured in terms of thyroid weight and plasma tri-iodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) concentrations, were studied and comparisons made with crushed and untreated low glucosinolate rapeseed (Canola) and also with extruded soya bean. All treatments of Jet Neuf reduced net protein utilisation; crushing Jet Neuf produced the most severe deterioration. Jet Neuf also had greater anti-thyroid activity. However, anti-thyroid activity and protein utilisation were not highly correlated. None of the treatments applied to Jet Neuf produced improvements in protein utilisation or diminished anti-thyroid activity. 相似文献
