Commercial interest in Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) systems has risen dramatically in the last few years. It yields a potential increase in capacity over other access schemes, because it provides protection against interference, multipath, fading, and jamming. Recently, several interference cancellation schemes for CDMA have been proposed but they require information about all interfering active users or some channel parameters. The authors present an adaptive fractionally spaced decision feedback equalizer (DFE) for a CDMA system in an indoor wireless Rayleigh fading environment. This system only uses information about the desired user's spreading code and a training sequence. An analysis on the optimum performance of the DFE receiver shows the advantages of this system over others in terms of capacity improvements. A simulation of this system is also presented to study the convergence properties and implementation considerations of the DFE receiver. Effects on the performance because of sudden birth and death of users in the CDMA system and bit error rate performance of the DFE receiver is also presented  相似文献

A direct-sequence spread spectrum (DS/SS) receiver for suppressing multiple-access interference in direct-sequence code-division multiple-access (DS/CDMA) communication systems is introduced. The proposed receiver does not require knowledge of other users' spreading codes, timing, or phase information. Moreover, the receiver allows the number of taps to be chosen independently of the processing gain and, hence, is easily applicable to CDMA systems employing either a small or a large processing gain. Performance analysis, including average probability of error and signal-to-noise ratio, is provided, and results are presented for systems varying from lightly loaded (for example, eight user/255 chip) to heavily loaded (for example, 50 user/200 chip). Performance results indicate that the proposed receiver outperforms the linear correlation receiver and, in many cases, it does so by a considerable margin  相似文献

Code-division multiple access (CDMA) has found widespread applications in various applications such as advanced wireless technologies and digital cellular communications. We consider the error-rate performance of asynchronous direct-sequence CDMA in a wireless radio communications environment that is characterized by Rayleigh multipath fading channels. Because of the system complexity, the performance of CDMA systems in such an environment is difficult to assess analytically. Monte Carlo simulations can offer an alternative performance evaluation tool. Unfortunately, in practice, such an alternative is often limited by an excessive computational burden. Importance sampling is a variance reduction technique which can significantly reduce the computational cost required by Monte Carlo simulations. This paper describes the basic principles behind this powerful technique. In particular, it illustrates its use as a computationally efficient and accurate tool for computer-aided design and analysis of uncoded as well as coded CDMA in wireless communications  相似文献

Spatial diversity is an attractive technology to cope with the fading channel encountered in mobile communications. This paper presents novel closed analytical expressions of the bit-error rate (BER) achievable in a coherent binary phase-shift-keying (CBPSK) direct-sequence code-division multiple-access (DS/CDMA) system for any power delay profile and for either postdetection selection or maximal ratio combining (MRC). In particular, expressions for the cutoff rate R o and for its related parameter D are also formulated in order to assess the system performance under the consideration of some channel coding schemes. This paper presents a turbo coded multicarrier direct sequence code division multiple access (DS/CDMA) system, where the outputs of a turbo encoder are repetition coded at multiple rates and transmitted in parallel over a number of subchannels. A performance bound useful in the so-called error floor region is obtained for Rayleigh fading channels when different diversity orders are given to each turbo code symbol. Simulation results are also provided for the low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) region where the bound is not applicable. It is observed that the error floor can be lowered, with some performance loss in the low SNR region, by applying nonuniform repetition coding to the turbo code symbols  相似文献

This paper presents the theory and practice of a new advanced modem technology suitable for high-data-rate wireless communications and presents its performance over a frequency-flat Rayleigh fading channel. The new technology is based on space-time coded modulation (STCM) with multiple transmit and/or multiple receive antennas and orthogonal pilot sequence insertion (O-PSI). In this approach, data is encoded by a space-time (ST) channel encoder and the output of the encoder is split into N streams to be simultaneously transmitted using N transmit antennas. The transmitter inserts periodic orthogonal pilot sequences in each of the simultaneously transmitted bursts. The receiver uses those pilot sequences to estimate the fading channel. When combined with an appropriately designed interpolation filter, accurate channel state information (CSI) can be estimated for the decoding process. Simulation results of the proposed modem, as applied to the IS-136 cellular standard, are presented. We present the frame error rate (FER) performance results as a function of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and the maximum Doppler frequency, in the presence of timing and frequency offset errors. Simulation results show that for a 10% FER, a 32-state eight-phase-shift keyed (8-PSK) ST code with two transmit and two receive antennas can support data rates up to 55.8 kb/s on a 30-kHz channel, at an SNR of 11.7 dB and a maximum Doppler frequency of 180 Hz. Simulation results for other codes and other channel conditions are also provided. We also compare the performance of the proposed STCM scheme with delay diversity schemes and conclude that STCM can provide significant SNR improvement over simple delay diversity  相似文献

We propose a multichannel joint detector which eliminates other user, multipath, and intercarrier interference through a decorrelating process in a multicarrier 16-QAM direct-sequence code-division multiple-access system. The performance of the proposed detector under a frequency-selective fading channel is analytically derived and compared to that of a conventional single-user detector. The symbol error ratio curve of the proposed detector does not show the error floor that is seen in the conventional detector, and the resultant performance is close to that of a multicarrier 16-QAM system without any interference.  相似文献

A robust error control scheme for data transmission in CDMA-based cellular systems is proposed which employs outer Reed-Solomon codes concatenated with inner convolutional codes. The performance of this scheme is analyzed assuming nonperiodic random spreading sequences and a Rake receiver with perfect knowledge of the channel. In particular, a simple model for the memoryless inner coding channel that encompasses the effects of multiple access interference, self-noise and thermal noise is first derived. Using new tight upper bounds on bit- and symbol-error probabilities of convolutional codes over Nakagami, Rayleigh, and Rician fading multipath channels, the performance of the concatenated coding scheme is then evaluated. The Reed-Solomon/convolutional coding scheme has been adopted by the European RACE Project Code Division Testbed (CODIT) and implemented in an experimental testbed. The code design methodology, which has been used to specify the 9.6-, 64-, and 128-kbit/s data traffic channels of the CODIT testbed, is presented and the single-cell CDMA capacity is computed  相似文献

Closed-form steady-state performance analysis of the signal-to-interference plus noise ratio (SINR) at the output of well-known adaptive implementations of the linear minimum mean-square error (MSE) receiver for direct-sequence code-division multiple access show that nondata-aided (NDA) schemes may suffer from a considerable performance degradation with respect to their data-aided counterparts. Motivated by this fact, we propose a new two-stage NDA scheme where symbol-by-symbol predecisions at the output of a first adaptive stage are used to train a second stage. We derive closed-form steady-state performance analysis for both the two-stage and classical decision-directed schemes, taking into account detection errors in decision-directed adaptation. Our analysis shows that the SINR of the two-stage algorithm is close to optimal over a large range of values, while the SINR of the decision-directed scheme is far from optimal when the optimal SINR is small. Finally, we consider the case of time-varying fading channels. We derive modified recursive least square and least mean square adaptation schemes by considering SINR maximization rather than MSE minimization (that is useless under the assumption of zero-mean random channels). The resulting two-stage receiver shows good tracking properties in heavy near-far conditions (at least for moderate normalized Doppler bandwidth), while the decision-directed receiver may easily loose tracking after deep fades.  相似文献

This paper presents an improved two-stage decorrelating detection scheme for direct-sequence code-division multiple-access (DS-CDMA) systems. Decorrelator outputs corresponding to each user are tested to determine whether or not a final decision can be made with high reliability. For users with high reliability, a hard decision is made at this stage. For the remaining users, a conditional quantization algorithm is employed before a decision is made. Results indicate that significant performance enhancement can be achieved at the expense of a modest increase in computational complexity. The algorithm is also applied to synchronous as well as asynchronous multipath channels with excellent results. A model of the personal communication system (PCS) employing code division multiple access (CDMA) is presented and analyzed. In the analysis, the effect of multipath transmissions that are usually present in the portable environments is included. This effect causes severe fading degradation in the received signal power. The model introduces the factors that mostly affect the reception of different signals at the base station, and their effect on the received power is discussed. The performance of the system is measured by the probability of error and the increase in the amount of power (the power cost) necessary to overcome multipath fading effects. Multiuser detection (MUD) is a key technique for combating multiple access interference (MAI) in CDMA systems. We propose a simple and effective multiuser receiver, which we refer to as the objective function based multiuser detector (OFMUD). This is a successive multistage joint detector based on the statistical optimization of an objective function. Two objective functions are considered in this paper. The first one is based on a maximum likelihood solution, and the second one is based on the least squared error solution. A key feature of the proposed detector is that among all the K user bits, we update the estimate of one and only one bit (the one that is most likely to be wrong) in every stage. Analytical and numerical results show that significant performance improvement can be achieved compared with the conventional DS/CDMA receiver. At the same time, the near-far problem is alleviated. In addition, it is shown that the proposed receiver can outperform the popular multiuser parallel interference cancellation receiver in most cases with a smaller computational cost  相似文献
