A protective relay system, subjected to a high-voltage, steep-front impulse, has been shown to fail in the laboratory via flashover-induced current follow through on the DC power supply. Laboratory experiments were performed to characterize the response of a protective relay to steep-front impulses. These impulses may be the result of a nuclear-induced, high-altitude electromagnetic pulse. Tests were also conducted to quantify the protection offered by a surge protection package on the DC circuits of a relay system. A basic electronic control scheme which allows relays to be utilized at fast switching rates with long lifetimes and is applicable with standard microprocessor-based systems is described. The basic power-switching circuit consists of a commutating diode connected in parallel with the contacts of a single master relay, and this combination connected in series with a parallel combination of slave switching relays and associated loads. Timing and control is provided in such a way that the relays are switched at a high frequency but never with current flowing through the contacts. An actual range application with multiple loads is described, along with the necessary circuitry and logic. This paper proposes an intelligence based protective relay data acquisition system to correct current transformers and capacitive voltage transformers secondary waveform distortions. The protective relay data acquisition system receives voltage and current signals from current transformers and capacitive voltage transformers and prepares the inputs to the main board after some pre-processing. Current transformers and capacitive voltage transformers provide instrument level current and voltage signals to meters and protective relays in high voltage and extra high voltage systems. The accuracy and performance of protective relays in high voltage and extra high voltage systems are directly related to steady state and transient performance of current transformers and capacitive voltage transformers. Current transformers saturation and capacitive voltage transformers transient could lead to protective relay mal-operation or even prevent tripping. The key of the proposed scheme is to use artificial neural network to achieve the inverse transfer functions of current transformers and capacitive voltage transformers. Simulation studies are preformed and the impacts of changing different parameters are studied. Performance study results show that the proposed scheme is accurate and reliable. The proposed algorithm has also been implemented and tested on a digital signal processor board. Details of the implementation and experimental studies are provided in the paper. 相似文献
