The main objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of supplementing lactating ewe diets with extruded linseed on the fatty acid (FA) composition of intramuscular and subcutaneous fat depots of suckling lambs. Twenty-four pregnant Churra ewes were divided into two groups based on the milk production, age, body weight and parity, and assigned to one of two treatments. Each ewe of the Control treatment was supplemented with 70 g/day of FAs from a calcium soap of palm oil, while the other treatment group (Lin) was supplemented with 128 g/day of extruded linseed. All lambs were reared exclusively on milk and were slaughtered when they reached 11 kg live weight. FA profiles of ewe milk, lamb meat and subcutaneous adipose tissue were determined by GC. Lamb performance was not affected by the treatments. Muscle fat and adipose tissue from the Lin treatment showed higher proportions of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). The percentages of α-linolenic (C18:3 n − 3), docosahexaenoic (C22:6 n − 3), vaccenic (trans-11 C18:1) and rumenic (cis-9, trans-11 C18:2) acids in both fat depots were higher in Lin than in Control suckling lambs. Furthermore, meat fat from Lin carcasses displayed a lower n − 6/n − 3 ratio than Control samples. Intramuscular depots clearly showed a greater content of PUFA, including cis-9, trans-11 C18:2, and a lower n − 6/n − 3 ratio than subcutaneous fat. The results from this study demonstrate that dietary extruded linseed supplementation of lactating ewes enhances the nutritional quality of suckling lamb fat depots such as intramuscular and subcutaneous fats.  相似文献

Eighty eight lambs were used in a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement 1) to investigate the effect of maternal dietary linseed supplementation and/or lamb linseed supplemented concentrate on growth performance, carcass fat quality and fatty acid (FA) composition of muscle and dorsal adipose tissue of indoor lambs 2) to study the relationships between subcutaneous fat quality and FA composition. Feeding linseed to ewes increased C18:3 n-3 (ALA) proportion in milk and therefore the ALA supply to suckling lambs. However, ALA and n-3 polyunsaturated FA (n-3 PUFA) proportions in lamb tissues were not affected. Feeding linseed to lambs during the post-weaning period significantly increased the proportions of ALA and n-3 PUFA in tissues. Softer and more colored fat was associated with a decrease in even medium-chain saturated FA and increases in odd and methyl FA proportions but not with ALA proportion in subcutaneous adipose tissue.  相似文献

Thirty-two Merino lambs fed barley straw and a concentrate formulated either with palm oil (CTRL group) or with linseed (+ LS group), both alone or supplemented with quercetin (+ QCT group or + LS + QCT group) were used to assess the effects of these dietary supplements on meat quality attributes. After being slaughtered, the longissimus thoracis muscles were used to study the fatty acid (FA) profile in detail, whilst longissimus lumborum slices were stored under refrigerated conditions to determine the lipid stability. Linseed increased the content of highly unsaturated n − 3 long-chain fatty acid (20:5n − 3; 22:5n − 3; 22:6n − 3). Interestingly, a significant increment of rumenic acid content (9c,11t-18:2) was observed when this seed was administered together with dietary quercetin. Moreover, the feeding of quercetin resulted in a reduction in the proportion of saturated FA and a decrease in lipid peroxidation of meat when the lambs were fed linseed. In conclusion, from both a nutritional and a commercial (shelf-life) point of view, it may be useful to include a source of quercetin when lambs are fed linseed diets.  相似文献

Eighteen Barbarine lambs (3 months of age), were assigned for 95 days to 3 treatments: six lambs were fed a barley-based concentrate plus oat hay ad libitum (control group, C); other lambs received the control diet plus essential oil (400 ppm DM) either of Rosmarinus officinalis (R400 group; n = 6) or of Artemisia herba alba (A400 group; n = 6). At slaughter the muscle longissimus dorsi was sampled and subjected to fatty acid and volatile organic compounds (VOC) analyses. The A400 lambs presented a greater amount of vaccenic, rumenic and linolenic acids and of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) in meat than the C and R400 animals. Essential oils supplementation did not affect meat VOC profile though the sesquiterpenes copaene and β-caryophyllene were detected only in the meat of R400 and A400 lambs. It is concluded that the supplementation of rosemary or artemisia essential oils does not produce detrimental effects on lamb meat VOC profile. The supplementation of artemisia can improve meat healthy properties.  相似文献

Heritability and genetic and phenotypic correlations between 15 individuals and 10 groups of fatty acids with a concentration greater than 0.5% in the brisket adipose tissue of 223 Angus and Charolais based crossbred commercial steers were estimated using univariate and bivariate animal models. Individual saturated fatty acids were low to moderately heritable, with heritability estimates ranging from 0.05 (C16:0) to 0.31 (C15:0). Individual monounsaturated fatty acids were low to moderately highly heritable ranging from 0.04 (9c C17:1 and 11c C18:1) to 0.51 (9c C14:1). Polyunsaturated fatty acid C18:2n − 6 was moderately heritable (0.17). Among groups of fatty acids, heritability estimates ranged from 0.03 for branched chain fatty acid (BCFA) and n − 6/n − 3 to 0.16 for n − 6 and Health Index. A range of low (0.00) to high (1.00) phenotypic and genetic correlations was observed among the 25 fatty acids considered in this study. In general, fatty acids such as conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and 11t C18:1, with potential health benefits, showed significant antagonistic correlations with unhealthy fatty acids such as C14:0 and C16:0. The results from this study provide insight into the direct genetic control of host genes on fatty acid composition of beef tissues and will facilitate designs of genetic selection and/or genetic based diet management to improve fatty acid composition in beef cattle.  相似文献

The effect of supplementation of increasing amounts of extruded linseed in diets based on hay (H; experiment 1) or corn silage (CS; experiment 2) was investigated in regard to dairy performance and the milk fatty acid (FA) composition. In each experiment, 4 lactating multiparous Holstein cows were used in a 4 × 4 Latin square design (28-d periods). The cows were fed a diet (50:50 and 40:60 concentrate:forage ratio for experiments 1 and 2, respectively; dry matter basis) without supplementation (H0 or CS0) or supplemented with 5% (H5 or CS5), 10% (H10 or CS10), or 15% (H15 or CS15) of extruded linseed. Regardless of the forage type, diet supplementation with increasing amounts of extruded linseed had no effect on the dry matter intake, milk yield, or protein content or yield. In contrast, the milk fat content decreased progressively from H0 to H10 diets, and then decreased strongly with the H15 diet in response to increasing amounts of extruded linseed. For CS diets, the milk fat content initially decreased from CS0 to CS10, but then increased with the CS15 diet. For the H diets, the milk saturated FA decreased (−24.1 g/100 g of FA) linearly with increasing amounts of extruded linseed, whereas the milk monounsaturated FA (+19.0 g/100 g), polyunsaturated FA (+4.9 g/100 g), and total trans FA (+14.7 g/100 g) increased linearly. For the CS diets, the extent of the changes in the milk FA composition was generally lower than for the H diets. Milk 12:0 to 16:0 decreased in a similar manner in the 2 experiments with increasing amounts of extruded linseed intake, whereas 18:0 and cis-9 18:1 increased. The response of total trans 18:1 was slightly higher for the CS than H diets. The milk trans-10 18:1 content increased more with the CS than the H diets. The milk cis-9,trans-11 conjugated linoleic acid response to increasing amounts of extruded linseed intake was linear and curvilinear for the H diets, whereas it was only linear for the CS diets. The milk 18:3n-3 percentage increased in a similar logarithmic manner in the 2 experiments. It was concluded that the milk FA composition can be altered by extruded linseed supplementation with increasing concentrations of potentially health-beneficial FA (i.e., oleic acid, 18:3n-3, cis-9,trans-11 conjugated linoleic acid, and odd- and branched-chain FA) and decreasing concentrations of saturated FA. Thirty-two lambs were fed with barley straw supplemented by a concentrate alone, or a concentrate enriched with either vitamin E (VITE006: 0.6 g kg−1 feed concentrate) or carnosic acid (CARN006: 0.6 g kg−1 feed concentrate; or CARN012: 1.2 g kg−1 feed concentrate). In order to elucidate the influence of the dietary supplementation of carnosic compared with a reference diet antioxidant (vitamin E), the animals were slaughtered and the longissimus thoracis were lyophilised to determine the FAs profile and the phenolic compounds. In addition, longissimus lumborum slices were stored in a modified atmosphere package for 3 days and then grilled to determine volatile compounds. Dietary carnosic acid did not modify the FAs profile, but had a clear effect on the production of volatile compounds, in a dose-dependent manner. These results have implications for the food industry, since dietary carnosic acid seems to extend the shelf life of lamb meat.  相似文献

The impact of two factors, genotype (G) and treatment (raw or roasted peanut) (T), on the chemical composition of peanuts was studied using a chemometric method and Tukey's test. The peanut genotypes evaluated were cultivar cavalo vermelho (CCV), cultivar cavalo rosa (CCR) and cultivar tatu (CTA), in both raw and roasted states. The total lipid contents in the CTA and CCR peanuts were 40 and 45%, respectively. These values did not vary significantly (P < 0.05) after roasting. CCV had the greatest total lipid content, but it decreased significantly after roasting (from 50% to 45%). The variation in the percentage of lipids in the CCV and CCR genotypes was not significant, in contrast to the CTA genotype. The fatty acid (FA) 18:1n−9 predominated in the CCR and CCV samples (50%), without any difference between their raw genotypes. The values for FA 18:1n−9 were lower in the CTA peanut (40%). The second most abundant FA was 18:2n−6 (CCV = 28%, CTA = 38% and CCR = 25%), followed by 16:0 (CCV and CCR = 16% and CTA = 11%). The other FAs found in the peanuts were 18:0, 20:0, 22:0, 24:0, 20:1n−9 and 18:3n−3. The contents of FAs 18:1n−9, 16:0, 20:0, and 20:1n−9 suffered significant reduction after roasting in all genotypes. ANOVA analysis of the influence of the main factors indicated that the contribution of the T variable for the majority of responses was low, being between 0.2 and 13%, except for FAs 16:0 and 18:3n−3 and for the saturated FA summations, which were 38, 60 and 22%, respectively. There was a significant contribution from the G factor for all responses, with values between 17 and 99%. The contribution of the interaction between the T and G factors was greater for the responses n6/n3 (56.6%) and for the FA 16:0 (23%). The other responses had values between 0.02 and 14%.  相似文献

The aims of this study were to investigate the effect of feeding system and of supplementation of tannins (8.93% DM) on the relationship between intramuscular fat content, fatty acid composition and Δ9desaturase (Δ9d) protein expression in longissimus dorsi muscle of lamb. Twenty-eight Comisana lambs (age 45 days) were fed either vetch (Vicia sativa) or concentrate. The herbage diet was (i) lower in saturated fatty acids (especially in C16:0), C18:1 n−9 and in C18:2 n−6; (ii) higher in C16:1 and C18:3 n−3 when compared to concentrate. Within each feeding system the lambs were divided into two sub-groups, one of which received the diet without tannins supplementation, and the other was fed the diets supplemented with the tannins from Quebracho (Schinopsis lorentzii). The animals were slaughtered at age 105 days. The concentrate feeding system increased (p < 0.01) the total intramuscular fat content and the amount of SFA, MUFA and n−6 PUFA and decreased the level of n−3 PUFA (p = 0.05) when compared to the vetch-fed animals but did not affect Δ9 desaturase protein expression. There was no correlation between Δ9d protein expression and total intramuscular fatty acids, CLA and MUFA level. It was suggested that in ruminants, in contrast to monogastric animals, Δ9d expression does not play the key role in intramuscular fatty acids formation. Tannins supplementation resulted in higher (p < 0.05) muscle levels of transC18:1 and C18:2 n−6. It has also increased Δ9d expression in the case of herbage-based diet but not in the case of concentrate-based diet. The mechanism of tannins action on the enzyme expression needs to be elucidated.  相似文献

This study compared carcass, meat quality and fatty acid profiles of longissimus thoracis (LT) from feedlot cattle fed barley grain with or without oilseed (OS). Six diets containing no oilseed (No-OS), 10% ground flaxseed (FS), 10% high oleate sunflower seeds (SS) with or without 30% triticale dried distiller's grain (DDGS) were prepared. Feeding DDGS increased chroma at 24 and 144 h post mortem. Feeding FS increased weight% of LT PUFA (P < 0.05) compared to No-OS or SS. An OS by DDGS interaction occurred for 18:3n − 3 (P < 0.05) where FS increased weight% of 18:3n − 3 (P < 0.05), a response accentuated (P < 0.05) by DDGS. Feeding DDGS increased weight% of LT 18:2n − 6 (P < 0.05), but neither OS nor DDGS affected conjugated linoleic acid (CLA, t7,c9 & c9,t11-18:2). Feeding FS increased weight% of n − 3 FA, and both FS and SS increased t10-18:1 with no effect on CLA or t11-18:1. Combination feeding of DDGS and FS further increased weight% of n − 3 FA and tempered increases in t10-18:1 with no effect on CLA or t11-18:1. The findings suggest a new strategy to increase beef omega-3 fatty acids efficiently through inclusion of a combination of DDGS and FS in feedlot diet.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to assess the effects of dietary supplementation of extruded linseed on animal performance and fatty acid (FA) profile of ewe milk for the production of n-3 FA- and conjugated linoleic acid-enriched cheeses. A Manchega ewe flock (300 animals) receiving a 60:40 forage:concentrate diet was divided into 3 groups supplemented with 0, 6, and 12 g of extruded linseed/100 g of dry matter for the control, low, and high extruded linseed diets, respectively. Bulk and individual milk samples from 5 dairy ewes per group were monitored at 7, 14, 28, 45, and 60 d following supplementation. Manchego cheeses were made with bulk milk from the 3 treatment groups. Milk yield increased in dairy ewes receiving extruded linseed. Milk protein, fat, and total solids contents were not affected by linseed supplementation. Milk contents of α-linolenic acid increased from 0.36 with the control diet to 1.91% total FA with the high extruded linseed diet. Similarly, cis-9 trans-11 C18:2 rose from 0.73 to 2.33% and its precursor in the mammary gland, trans-11 C18:1, increased from 1.55 to 5.76% of total FA. This pattern occurred with no significant modification of the levels of trans-10 C18:1 and trans-10 cis-12 C18:2 FA. Furthermore, the high extruded linseed diet reduced C12:0 (−30%), C14:0 (−15%) and C16:0 (−28%), thus significantly diminishing the atherogenicity index of milk. The response to linseed supplementation was persistently maintained during the entire study. Acceptability attributes of n-3-enriched versus control cheeses ripened for 3 mo were not affected. Therefore, extruded linseed supplementation seems a plausible strategy to improve animal performance and nutritional quality of dairy lipids in milk and cheese from ewes.  相似文献

FA proportions were determined both on a DB-wax and on a CP-Sil column in perirenal (PR), dorsal subcutaneous (SC) adipose tissue and in longissusmus dorsi muscle (IM). No effects of linseed contents in the diet on growth performances either in male or female lambs were observed. Linseed supplementation tended to decrease the fatness score. The proportion of linolenic acid increased linearly with the linseed content in the diet, from: 0.6, 0.5, and 0.5% for L0 to 1.9, 1.6, and 1.3% for L9, in PR, SC and IM, respectively. The increase in n − 3 PUFA and in total PUFA was similar to that of linolenic acid. The n − 6:n − 3 ratio decreased from 5.7, 5.3 and 5.8 for L0 to 1.8, 1.7 and 2.7 for L9, in PR, SC and IM, respectively. There was no change in the proportion of docosahexaenoic acid with linseed supplementation. The proportions of C18:1trans-10 and C18:1trans-11 did not vary in PR, SC and IM with linseed supplementation. The total proportion of trans-octadecenoic acid was high in each tissue type and group of lambs. C18:1trans-10 represented about half of the total trans-octadecenoic isomers. With an increase in linolenic acid, most cis- and trans-octadecenoic isomers also increased, but trans-10 and trans-11 isomers did not and cis-9 and cis-11 isomers decreased. With linseed supplementation there was a decrease in the Δ9 desaturase indices in SC.  相似文献

The aim was to evaluate the effects of crossbreeding Romanov (RO) ewes with Suffolk (SF) and Charollais (CH) sires on the chemicophysical characteristics and FA profile of the Quadriceps femoris muscle (QFM) in lambs fattened under organic conditions. The experimental animals were male lamb twins of two different crossbreds; CH 50 RO 50 and SF 50 RO 50. Lambs were slaughtered at an average live weight of 31 kg. CH 50 RO 50 displayed higher contents of dry matter and intramuscular fat of the QFM. A lower pH value of CH 50 RO 50 was reflected in an increase of WHC. Meat of SF 50 RO 50 lambs had more lightness (L*) and yellowness (b*). The CH 50 RO 50 genotype showed a significantly higher proportion of C18:3n−3cis and n−3 PUFA than the SF 50 RO 50 genotype. The genotype also affected the Δ9-desaturase (16) index.  相似文献

The objectives were to evaluate the effect of supplementing saturated or unsaturated long-chain fatty acids (FA) to nulliparous and parous Holstein animals (n = 78) during late gestation on FA profile of colostrum and plasma of newborn calves and on production and absorption of IgG. The saturated FA supplement (SAT) was enriched in C18:0 and the unsaturated FA supplement (ESS) was enriched in the essential FA C18:2n-6. Fatty acids were supplemented at 1.7% of dietary dry matter to low-FA diets (1.9% of dietary dry matter) during the last 8 wk of gestation. Calves were fed 4 L of colostrum within 2 h of birth from their own dam or from a dam fed the same treatment. Feeding fat did not affect prepartum dry matter intake, body weight change, or gestation length. Parous but not nulliparous dams tended to give birth to heavier calves if fed fat prepartum. Parous dams were less able to synthesize essential FA derivatives, as evidenced by lower desaturase indices, compared with nulliparous dams, suggesting a greater need for essential FA supplementation. The FA profile of colostrum was modified to a greater degree by prepartum fat feeding than was that of neonatal calf plasma. The placental transfer and synthesis of elongated n-3 FA (C20:5, C22:5, and C22:6) were reduced, whereas the n-6 FA (C18:2, C18:3, and C20:3) were increased in plasma of calves born from dams fed ESS rather than SAT. Supplementing unsaturated FA prepartum resulted in elevated concentrations of trans isomers of unsaturated monoene and diene FA, as well as C18:2n-6 in colostrum. Serum concentrations of IgG tended to be increased in calves born from dams fed fat compared with those not fed fat, and prepartum feeding of SAT tended to improve circulating concentrations of IgG in newborn calves above the feeding of ESS. Apparent efficiency of absorption of IgG was improved in calves born from dams fed fat, and SAT supplementation appeared more effective than supplementation with ESS. Feeding SAT prepartum may be of greater benefit based upon greater circulating IgG concentrations of calves after colostrum feeding. Feeding moderate amounts of saturated or unsaturated long-chain FA during the last 8 wk of gestation changed the FA profile of colostrum and plasma of neonates to reflect that of the supplements.  相似文献

Fatty acid content and sensory characteristics of meat from light lambs fed three diets supplemented with different sources of n−3 fatty acids (fish oil, extruded linseed and extruded linseed plus microalgae) and a control diet during refrigerated storage have been studied. The meat from lambs fed linseed diets had the highest levels of C18:3 n−3, while animals fed fish oil had the highest long-chain n−3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). Thus, 100 g of meat from lamb fed the fish oil diet provided 183 mg of long-chain n−3 PUFA, representing 40% of the daily recommended intake. The levels of n−3, n−6 and long-chain n−3 PUFA decreased during a 7-day storage period. The meat from lambs fed the fish oil diet had high scores of fish odour and flavour and rancid odour and flavour and the lowest overall liking. Rancid odour and flavour increased after storage, mainly in supplemented groups.  相似文献

With an increase in linolenic acid, most cis- and trans-octadecenoic isomers also increased, but trans-10 and trans-11 isomers did not and cis-9 and cis-11 isomers decreased. The present study was conducted to investigate whether maternal dietary fat affects the fatty acid composition of the longissimus thoracis (LT) muscle in offspring pigs at weaning and finishing stages. Fourteen sows were randomly assigned to a control or a high fat (HF) group. The HF sows received a diet containing 8% corn oil starting seven days before farrowing until weaning. The results showed that a high-fat diet significantly increased the contents of serum-lipid-related indexes in the sows. Although the triglyceride content did not change, the C18:2n − 6 content was higher in the colostrum and in the LT muscle of offspring pigs at both investigated stages. The total n − 6 content and the n − 6/n − 3 ratio generally increased. This study demonstrated that maternal dietary fat during lactation affects the fatty acid composition of the LT muscle of progeny at weaning, and can have persistent effects in later life.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to assess the feasibility of near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) for predicting lamb meat fatty acid composition. We compared ground vs. intact non-ground meat samples to determine whether grinding and homogenisation of meat samples improved the performance of the predictions. We used 76 male lambs, of which 32 were pasture-fed and 44 stall-fed with concentrate and hay. The reflectance spectrum of Longissimus lumborum muscle was measured at wavelengths between 400 and 2500 nm. Predictions were better with ground than with intact muscle samples. NIRS accurately predicts several individual fatty acids (FA) (16:0, 18:0, 16:1 Δ9 cis, 17:1 Δ9 cis, 18:1 Δ9 cis, 18:1 Δ11 cis and 16:1 Δ9 trans) and several FA groups (total linear saturated FA, total branched saturated FA, total saturated FA, total cis monounsaturated FA (MUFA), total trans MUFA, total MUFA and total polyunsaturated PUFA). These results show the potential of NIRS as a rapid, and convenient tool to predict the major FA in lamb meat.  相似文献

This study tested the ability of near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) to estimate the fatty acid (FA) composition and iodine value (IV) of backfat from carcasses of pigs fed reduced-oil corn dried distillers grains with solubles. NIRS was suitable for screening purposes for the proportions of total saturated, monounsaturated, polyunsaturated, n − 3 and n − 6 FAs and some individual FAs such as C16:0, C18:1, C18:2n − 6 and C18:3n − 3 (R2 = 0.80–0.89; RMSECVs, root mean square errors of cross-validation = 0.21–1.37% total FA) in both cold and warm intact backfat samples. This technology also met the requirements for a quick screening for the backfat IV in both cold and warm intact samples (R2 = 0.90 and 0.87; RMSECVs = 1.66 and 1.80% total FA, respectively), which would help provide differential feed-back to pig producers and the feed industry and may provide the opportunity for breeding pigs for a desirable fat quality.  相似文献
