We develop a theory of communication within branching programs that provides exponential lower bounds on the size of branching programs that are bounded alternating. Our theory is based on the algebraic concept of -branching programs, : , a semiring homomorphism, that generalizes ordinary branching programs, -branching programs [M2] andMOD p-branching programs [DKMW].Due to certain exponential lower and polynomial upper bounds on the size of bounded alternating -branching programs we are able to separate the corresponding complexity classesN ba ,co-N ba ba , andMOD p - ba ,p prime, from each other, and from that classes corresponding to oblivious linear length-bounded branching programs investigated in the past.  相似文献

Mutual convertibility of bound entangled states under local quantum operations and classical communication (LOCC) is studied. We focus on states associated with unextendible product bases (UPB) in a system of three qubits. A complete classification of such UPBs is suggested. We prove that for any pair of UPBs S and T the associated bound entangled states S and T cannot be converted to each other by LOCC, unless S and T coincide up to local unitaries. More specifically, there exists a finite precision (S,T) > 0 such that for any LOCC protocol mapping S into a probabilistic ensemble (p, ), the fidelity between T and any possible final state satisfies F(T, ) = 1 - (S,T).PACS: 03.65.Bz; 03.67.-a; 89.70+c.  相似文献

A central component of the analysis of panel clustering techniques for the approximation of integral operators is the so-called -admissibility condition min {diam(),diam()} 2dist(,) that ensures that the kernel function is approximated only on those parts of the domain that are far from the singularity. Typical techniques based on a Taylor expansion of the kernel function require a subdomain to be far enough from the singularity such that the parameter has to be smaller than a given constant depending on properties of the kernel function. In this paper, we demonstrate that any is sufficient if interpolation instead of Taylor expansionisused for the kernel approximation, which paves the way for grey-box panel clustering algorithms.  相似文献

This paper describes a unified variational theory for design sensitivity analysis of nonlinear dynamic response of structural and mechanical systems for shape, nonshape, material and mechanical properties selection, as well as control problems. The concept of an adjoint system, the principle of virtual work and a Lagrangian-Eulerian formulation to describe the deformations and the design variations are used to develop a unified view point. A general formula for design sensitivity analysis is derived and interpreted for usual performance functionals. Analytical examples are utilized to demonstrate the use of the theory and give insights for application to more complex problems that must be treated numerically.Derivatives The comma notation for partial derivatives is used, i.e. G,u = G/u. An upper dot represents material time derivative, i.e. ü = 2u/t2. A prime implies derivative with respect to the time measured in the reference time-domain, i.e. u = du/d.  相似文献

The termF-cardinality of (=F-card()) is introduced whereF: n n is a partial function and is a set of partial functionsf: n n . TheF-cardinality yields a lower bound for the worst-case complexity of computingF if only functionsf can be evaluated by the underlying abstract automaton without conditional jumps. This complexity bound isindependent from the oracles available for the abstract machine. Thus it is shown that any automaton which can only apply the four basic arithmetic operations needs (n logn) worst-case time to sortn numbers; this result is even true if conditional jumps witharbitrary conditions are possible. The main result of this paper is the following: Given a total functionF: n n and a natural numberk, it is almost always possible to construct a set such that itsF-cardinality has the valuek; in addition, can be required to be closed under composition of functionsf,g . Moreover, ifF is continuous, then consists of continuous functions.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the numerical solution of a model equation u xx = exp(– ) (and several slightly more general problems) when 1 using the standard central difference scheme on nonuniform grids. In particular, we are interested in the error behaviour in two limiting cases: (i) the total mesh point number N is fixed when the regularization parameter 0, and (ii) is fixed when N. Using a formal analysis, we show that a generalized version of a special piecewise uniform mesh 12 and an adaptive grid based on the equidistribution principle share some common features. And the optimal meshes give rates of convergence bounded by |log()| as 0 and N is given, which are shown to be sharp by numerical tests.  相似文献

This paper presents aut, a modern Automath checker. It is a straightforward re-implementation of the Zandleven Automath checker from the seventies. It was implemented about five years ago, in the programming language C. It accepts both the AUT-68 and AUT-QE dialects of Automath. This program was written to restore a damaged version of Jutting's translation of Landau's Grundlagen. Some notable features: It is fast. On a 1 GHz machine it will check the full Jutting formalization (736 K of nonwhitespace Automath source) in 0.6 seconds. Its implementation of -terms does not use named variables or de Bruijn indices (the two common approaches) but instead uses a graph representation. In this representation variables are represented by pointers to a binder. The program can compile an Automath text into one big Automath single line-style -term. It outputs such a term using de Bruijn indices. (These -terms cannot be checked by modern systems like Coq or Agda, because the -typed -calculi of de Bruijn are different from the -typed -calculi of modern type theory.)The source of aut is freely available on the Web at the address .  相似文献

Using the results obtained for the one-dimensional case in Part I (Reliable Computing 9(1) (2003), pp. 1–20) of the paper, an analysis of the two-dimensional relational expression a 1 x 1 + a 2 x 2 b, where {, , , =}, is conducted with the help of a midpoint-radius diagram and other auxiliary diagrams. The solution sets are obtained with a simple boundary-line selection rule derived using these tools, and are characterized by types of one-dimensional cuts through the solution space. A classification of basic possible solution types is provided in detail. The generalization of the approach for n-dimensional interval systems and avenues for further research are also outlined.  相似文献

Summary Making use of the fact that two-level grammars (TLGs) may be thought of as finite specification of context-free grammars (CFGs) with infinite sets of productions, known techniques for parsing CFGs are applied to TLGs by first specifying a canonical CFG G — called skeleton grammar — obtained from the cross-reference of the TLG G. Under very natural restrictions it can be shown that for these grammar pairs (G, G) there exists a 1 — 1 correspondence between leftmost derivations in G and leftmost derivations in G. With these results a straightforward parsing algorithm for restricted TLGs is given.  相似文献

The paper considers an N × n matrix (N n) over a field GF(2) that consists of random values with a distribution depending on a small parameter . The expansion is found in terms of the power of the parameter of the probability that the matrix rank is equal to n. Exact values of the first three coefficients are indicated.  相似文献

Conditions are presented under which the maximum of the Kolmogorov complexity (algorithmic entropy) K(1... N ) is attained, given the cost f( i ) of a message 1... N . Various extremal relations between the message cost and the Kolmogorov complexity are also considered; in particular, the minimization problem for the function f( i ) – K(1... N ) is studied. Here, is a parameter, called the temperature by analogy with thermodynamics. We also study domains of small variation of this function.  相似文献

Let (X, #) be an orthogonality space such that the lattice C(X, #) of closed subsets of (X, #) is orthomodular and let (, ) denote the free orthogonality monoid over (X, #). Let C0(, ) be the subset of C(, ), consisting of all closures of bounded orthogonal sets. We show that C0(, ) is a suborthomodular lattice of C(, ) and we provide a necessary and sufficient condition for C0(, ) to carry a full set of dispersion free states. The work of the second author on this paper was supported by National Science Foundation Grant GP-9005.  相似文献

A theory is developed for the construction of carry-save networks with minimal delay, using a given collection of carry-save adders each of which may receive inputs and produce outputs using several different representation standards. The construction of some new carry-save adders is described. Using these carry-save adders optimally, as prescribed by the above theory, we get {, , }-circuits of depth 3.48 log2 n and {, , }-circuits of depth 4.95 log2 n for the carry-save addition ofn numbers of arbitrary length. As a consequence we get multiplication circuits of the same depth. These circuits put out two numbers whose sum is the result of the multiplication. If a single output number is required then the depth of the multiplication circuits increases respectively to 4.48 log2 n and 5.95 log2 n.We also get {, , }-formulae of sizeO (n 3.13) and {, }-formulae of sizeO (n 4.57) for all the output bits of a carry-save addition ofn numbers. As a consequence we get formulae of the same size for the majority function and many other symmetric Boolean functions.  相似文献

Our starting point is a definition of conditional event EH which differs from many seemingly similar ones adopted in the relevant literature since 1935, starting with de Finetti. In fact, if we do not assign the same third value u (undetermined) to all conditional events, but make it depend on EH, it turns out that this function t(EH) can be taken as a general conditional uncertainty measure, and we get (through a suitable – in a sense, compulsory – choice of the relevant operations among conditional events) the natural axioms for many different (besides probability) conditional measures.  相似文献

Summary For a family of languages , CAL() is defined as the family of images of under nondeterministic two-way finite state transducers, while FINITE · VISIT() is the closure of under deterministic two-way finite state transducers; CAL0()= and for n0, CAL n+1()=CAL n (CAL()). For any semiAFL , if FINITE · VISIT() CAL(), then CAL n () forms a proper hierarchy and for every n0, FINITE · VISIT(CALn()) CAL n+1() FINITE · VISIT(CAL n+1()). If is a SLIP semiAFL or a weakly k-iterative full semiAFL or a semiAFL contained in any full bounded AFL, then FINITE · VISIT() CAL() and in the last two cases, FINITE · VISIT(). If is a substitution closed full principal semiAFL and FINITE · VISIT(), then FINITE · VISIT() CAL(). If is a substitution closed full principal semiAFL generated by a language without an infinite regular set and 1 is a full semiAFL, then is contained in CALm(1) if and only if it is contained in 1. Among the applications of these results are the following. For the following families , CAL n () forms a proper hierarchy: =INDEXED, =ETOL, and any semiAFL contained in CF. The family CF is incomparable with CAL m (NESA) where NESA is the family of one-way nonerasing stack languages and INDEXED is incomparable with CAL m (STACK) where STACK is the family of one-way stack languages. This work was supported in part by the National Science Foundation under Grants No. DCR74-15091 and MCS-78-04725  相似文献

Summary The author's inquiry [1] on learning systems is generalized in the following respects: The process of learning, instead of coming to an end when the learning goal has been reached, is supposed to last for ever, so that the above definitive learning as well as phenomena such as forgetting, re-learning, changing the goal etc. become describable. We take over the notion of semi-uniform solvability of a set of learning problems (2.2), but now (trivial cases excluded) the whole capacity of a learning system is never s. u. solvable. Finite such sets are. The notion of a solving-basis of some is introduced and we can state necessary conditions that possess such a basis (2.14), so that examples of sets without a basis can be provided. On the other hand, any s. u. solvable has as basis. The notion of uniform solvability (3.1) reinforces that of s. u. solvability, and there are given sufficient conditions for to be uniformly solvable (3.6). In some finite cases, s. u. solvability, existence of a basis and uniform solvability coincide (3.7–3.9). At last we give the construction for the weakest learning system solving a uniformly solvable problem set (3.12–3.19).Eine deutsche Fassung wurde am 30. Mai 1972 eingereicht.  相似文献

We consider the half-space range-reporting problem: Given a setS ofn points in d, preprocess it into a data structure, so that, given a query half-space , allk points ofS can be reported efficiently. We extend previously known static solutions to dynamic ones, supporting insertions and deletions of points ofS. For a given parameterm,n m n d/2 and an arbitrarily small positive constant , we achieveO(m 1+) space and preprocessing time, O((n/m d/2 logn+k) query time, and O(m1+n) amortized update time (d 3). We present, among others, the following applications: an O(n1+)-time algorithm for computing convex layers in 3, and an output sensitive algorithm for computing a level in an arrangements of planes in 3, whose time complexity is O((b+n) n, whereb is the size of the level.Work by the first author has been supported by National Science Foundation Grant CCR-91-06514. A preliminary version of this paper appeared in Agarwalet al. [2], which also contains the results of [20] on dynamic bichromatic closest pair and minimum spanning trees.  相似文献

In the framework of stochastic mechanics, the following problem is considered: in a set of admissible feedback controls v, with range inE n , find one minimizing the expectationE sx { s T L(t, (t), (t, (t)))dt + W T ((T))} for all (s, x) [0,T) E n , whereL(t, x, ) = (/12)m 2 – U(t, x) is the classical action integrand and is an-dimensional diffusion process in the weak sense, (see Bensoussan, 1982) with drift and diffusion coefficientD constant > 0.W T andU are given real functions. Sufficiency conditions for the existence of such an optimal feedback control are given. Dedicated to George Leitmann Recommended by G.J. Summary We consider a specific kind of binary trees with weighted edges. Each right edge has weight while each left edge has weight . Furthermore, no path in the tree is allowed to contain L or more consecutive -edges, where L 1 is fixed. Given, , , L and the number of nodes n, an optimal tree is one which minimizes the total weighted path length. Algorithms for constructing an optimal tree as well as all optimal trees for given , , L and n are proposed and analyzed. Timing and storage requirements are also discussed.  相似文献

One major task in requirements specification is to capture the rules relevant to the problem at hand. Declarative, rule-based approaches have been suggested by many researchers in the field. However, when it comes to modeling large systems of rules, not only for the behavior of the computer system but also for the organizational environment surrounding it, current approaches have problems with limited expressiveness, flexibility, and poor comprehensibility. Hence, rule-based approaches may benefit from improvements in two directions: (1) improvement of the rule languages themselves and (2) better integration with other, complementary modeling approaches. In this article, both issues are addressed in an integrated manner. The proposal is presented in the context of the Tempora project on rule-based information systems development, but has also been integrated with PPP. Tempora has provided a rule language based on an executable temporal logic working on top of a temporal database. The rule language is integrated with static (ER-like) and dynamic (SA/RT-like) modeling approaches. In the current proposal, the integration with complementary modeling approaches is extended by including organization modeling (actors, roles), and the expressiveness of the rule language is increased by introducing deontic operators and rule hierarchies. The main contribution of the article is not seen as any one of the above-mentioned extensions, but as the resulting comprehensive modeling support. The approach is illustrated by examples taken from an industrial case study done in connection with Tempora.C.
