The effect of different N, P and K combinations with and without FYM on cotton productivity and the changes in soil fertility of three rainfed cotton based cropping systems were analyzed through a field experiment, conducted for 11 yr. Monoculture of G. arboreum (Asiatic) cotton, out-yielded monoculture of G. hirsutum (upland) cotton in 9 out of 11 yr. except in years of heavy rainfall. G. hirsutum cotton in rotation with sorghum produced 8% more yield than monocultured G. hirsutum. Significant responses to N and P application were consistently observed, while the response to K was inconsistent. Substituting half the N dose with FYM, gave 162 kg/ha and 222 kg/ha more seed cotton at low (N60 P13 K25) and high (N90 P20 K38) doses respectively. Also substituting half the N dose with FYM built up soil organic C from 4.2 to 5.4 g/kg, and increased available P from 4.5 to 6.4 mg/kg. The variations in the performance of the cropping systems and the response to fertilizers could not be accounted for by total rainfall alone. However, there was significant positive correlation between cotton yield and post September rainfall. Multiple regression equations were fitted to estimate G. arboreum and G. hirsutum yields based on the monthly distribution of rainfall.  相似文献

A 3-year multi-site study was carried out on rainfed Vertisols under Mediterranean conditions in southern Europe to determine the influence of the N fertilizer rate on soil nitrates, N uptake and N use efficiency in bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and durum wheat (Triticum turgidum L. var. Durum Desf.) in rotation with sunflower (Heliathus annuus L.). Nitrogen fertilizer rates were 0, 100, 150 and 200 kg N ha−1 applied in equal proportions at sowing, tillering and stem elongation. The experiment was designed as a randomized complete block with a split plot arrangement and four replications. Nitrogen harvest index (NHI), N uptake/grain yield (NUp/GY), N use efficiency (NUE), N utilization efficiency (NUtE), N uptake efficiency (NUpE) and N apparent recovery fraction (NRF) were calculated. Differences were observed in N use efficiency between the two modern bread wheat and durum wheat cultivars studied. In comparison to durum, bread wheat displayed greater N accumulation capacity and a more efficient use of N for grain production. While under N-limiting conditions, the behavior was similar for both wheat types. No difference was noted between wheat types with regard to changes in soil residual levels over the study period at the various sites. The 100-kg ha−1 N fertilizer rate kept soil nitrates stable at a moderate level in plots where both wheat types were sown.  相似文献

Field trials were conducted over a three-year period with chinese cabbage (Brassica pekinensis Rupr.) and carrots (Daucus carota L.) grown in a sandy soil with pH adjusted to 5.5 and 6.5. The NPK fertilizers containing 1, 30, 90, and 400 mg Cd kg–1 P were applied at the rate of 0.07, 2.1, 6.3 and 28 g Cd ha–1 yr–1. The amounts of Cd added through phosphate rock also ranged between 0.1 and 28 g ha–1 yr–1. The increased Cd application rates through NPK fertilizers increased the Cd concentration in both vegetables but the differences among treatments were not found to be significant. The Cd uptake by both crops was significantly (p<0.01) higher at pH 5.5 than at pH 6.5. Chinese cabbage exhibited lower Cd concentration than carrots. Carrot leaves contained higher Cd than its roots. Cadmium removals by chinese cabbage and carrot were about 0.7 and 1.3 g ha–1 yr–1, respectively. At pH 5.5, Cd concentrations in the two crops, based on a three-year average, were 23 and 46% higher than at pH 6.5. Cadmium uptake by chinese cabbage from different sources of phosphate rock was affected to a very limited extent. Cadmium concentration generally increased over the years. Cadmium extracted by ammonium nitrate after harvest of the crops was closely related with soil pH and Cd concentration in the plants.  相似文献

Labelled Ca(H2PO4)2 · H2O was added to two soils (an Oxisol and a vertisol) at two rates, both as a point source and completely dispersed through the soil. The point source treatments included two spatial distributions at each of two percentages of soil volume fertilized. Total and fertilizer phosphorus uptake by wheat (Triticum aestivum) grown for 42 days were determined in a glasshouse experiment. Uptake of fertilizer phosphorus was not affected by spatial distribution, but declined in the Oxisol as percentage soil volume fertilized increased at the low application rate. The implications of these results in terms of the effects of cultivation on fertilizer availability are briefly discussed.  相似文献

Data on the responses of micronutrients in definable soil fractions to cultivation and management are required to design judicious fertilization practices to improve soil fertility in the savanna. Iron and manganese fractions are particularly sensitive to cultivation and management practices. The objectives of this study were to determine the sizes and changes in Fe and Mn fractions in a savanna Alfisol cultivated for 50 years and fertilized with (i) NPK, (ii) farmyard manure (FYM), (iii) FYM + NPK, (iv) a control plot, and (v) a natural site adjacent to the experimental field. The mean concentration of total Fe (FeT) ranged from 9.4 g kg–1 in the surface layer to 45 g kg–1 in the subsurface layer, whereas total mangenese (MnT) concentration ranged from 79 mg kg–1 in the surface layer to 279 mg kg–1 in the subsurface layer. The distribution of FeT followed the distribution of clay in the soil profile across the field. The distribution of MnT did not, however, follow the characteristic depth distribution of clay as observed for FeT, suggesting that Mn movement and distribution in this soil might be independent of clay movement and distribution. The concentrations of DTPA extractable Fe and Mn were much higher than the critical levels delineated for soils. Application of FYM increased the concentration of amorphous oxide bound Fe over the natural site and reduced the concentration of residual or inextractable Fe in the soil. Similarly, fertilization with FYM reduced the concentration of residual Mn, and increased the exchangeable, amorphous oxide bound and reducible Mn compared to the natural site. It seems that sole application of FYM or application in combination with NPK rather than NPK alone can mobilize non-labile Mn and Fe sources into labile and plant available forms of Fe and Mn in a savanna Alfisol.  相似文献

Long-term field experiments play an important role in understanding the complex interactions of plants, soils, climate and management and their effects on sustainable crop production. A long-term fertilizer experiment with maize-wheat-cowpea (fodder) is in progress since 1971 at Punjab Agricultural University farm Ludhiana, India. The experimental result for the first 21 years showed that application of N alone or in combination with P did not produce as much maize and wheat grains as the application of N, P and K together. Eight years after the start of the experiment, the optimal levels of N, P and K application (100% NPK) were unable to sustain the similar (maize) yield level as before because of Zn deficiency. Whereas in FYM amended plots the Zn deficiency did not appear and the higher crop yields could be sustained. The chemical control of weeds could not sustain the maize productivity at the same level as the manual removal of weeds. It was concluded that the high level of crop production can be sustained with the application of N, P and K under intensive cropping system provided deficiency of any of the micronutrient does not crop up. The deficiency of Zn is most likely to occur in semi-arid light textured alluvial soils under intensive cropping without the addition of farm yard manure/organic manures. In maize based cropping systems, manual control of weeds may be preferred to the chemical one. Addition of FYM in conjunction with 100% NPK is most beneficial both from bio-physical and economic point of view.  相似文献

The efficiency of mint-residue, composted alone and amended with starter nutrients, microbial culture and soil suspension (hereafter termed amended compost) was compared with farm yard manure and inorganic fertilizer on the yield of Japanese mint (Mentha arvensis L.) and improvement of soil fertility. Herbage, essential oil yield, nutrient uptake of Japanese mint and soil available nutrients were significantly enhanced due to application of amended compost as compared to nonamended compost, farm yard manure and inorganic fertilizer. Organic fertilized soils maintained significantly higher available nutrients throughout the crop growth period as compared to inorganic fertilized soils. No additional improvement in yields and soil fertility was recorded with combined application of compost and inorganic fertilizer in 1:1 ratio as against addition of compost alone. Advantage of such combinations was recorded in case of farm yard manure. Results of the study suggested possibilities for nutrient recycling through composted mint-residue for supplementing the fertilizers requirement of Japanese mint.  相似文献

Application of chemical fertilizers and farmyard manure affects crop productivity and improves nutrient cycling within soil–plant systems, but the magnitude varies with soil-climatic conditions. A long-term (1982–2004) field experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) fertilizers and farmyard swine manure (M) on seed and straw yield, protein concentration, and N uptake in the seed and straw of 19-year winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and four-year oilseed (three-year canola, Brassica napus L. in 1987, 2000 and 2003; one-year flax, Linum usitatisimum L. in 1991), accumulation of nitrate-N (NO3-N) in the soil profile (0–210 cm), and N balance sheet on a Huangmian soil (calcaric cambisols, FAO) near Tianshui, Gansu, China. The two main plot treatments were without and with farmyard swine manure (M); sub-plot treatments were control (Ck), N, NP, and NPK.␣The average seed yield decreased in the order MNPK ≥ MNP > MN ≥ NPK ≥ NP > M > N > Ck. The average effect of manure and fertilizers on seed yield was in the order M > N > P > K. The seed yield increase was 20.5% for M, 17.8% for N, 14.2% for P, and 2.9 % for K treatment. Seed yield response to fertilizers was much greater for N and P than for K, and it was much greater for no manure than for manure treatment. The response of straw yield to fertilization treatments was usually similar to that of seed yield. The N fertilizer and manure significantly increased protein concentration and N uptake plant. From the standpoint of increasing crop yield and seed quality, MNPK was the best fertilization strategy. Annual applications of N fertilizer and manure for 23 successive years had a marked effect on NO3-N accumulation in the 0–210 cm soil profile. Accumulation of NO3-N in the deeper soil layers with application of N fertilizer and manure is regarded as a potential danger, because of pollution of the soil environment and of groundwater. Application of N fertilizer in combination with P and/or K fertilizers reduced residual soil NO3-N significantly compared with N fertilizer alone in both no manure and manure plots. The findings suggest that integrated and balanced application of N, P, and K fertilizers and␣manure at proper rates is important for protecting soil and groundwater from potential NO3-N pollution and for maintaining high crop productivity in the rainfed region of Northwestern China.  相似文献
