The fatigue behaviour of titanium alloy Ti–6.5Al–3.5Mo–1.5Zr–0.3Si (TC11) was examined at 520°C to study the effects of microstructural variation on the dwell sensitivity. Three microstructures (equiaxed, tri-modal and basketweave) were used in this study. When a 3-min dwell time was imposed at the peak of each cycle a significant fatigue life reduction was observed for all microstructures tested. Among the three microstructures, equiaxed microstructure showed the strongest fatigue life reduction. The basketweave microstructure had a little higher dwell-time fatigue life than tri-modal microstructure at low maximum stress levels. In all cases, extensive quasi-cleavage facets and planar slips with track-like dislocations have been intimately linked with the dwell sensitive fatigue response. The amount of quasi-cleavage facets and planar slips decreased with a decrease of the α phase content. A rationalization for planar slip was proposed based on the mechanism of dislocations shearing α2 particles. It is believed that α2 particle formation and oxidization effects played an important role in dislocation planar slip.  相似文献

In β1–Cu–Zn–Al single crystals the course of cyclic martensititic transformation ‘β1 parent phase↔γ′1 martensite’ induced by tensile stress were studied with use of X-ray topography, light microscopy and etch pits. Two groups of single crystals were studied. The first one (OR) contained single crystals of subgrain boundaries parallel to the direction of elongation [001], the second one (RA) consisted of single crystals of random subgrain boundaries orientations. Single crystals from the RA group cracked after about 300 cycles of martensitic transformation; single crystals from the OR group did not crack even after 1200 cycles. In OR single crystals changes of dislocation density inside the subgrains caused by cycling occurred much more slowly than in the RA single crystals. This has been related to the dislocation movement from inside the subgrains to their boundaries.  相似文献

The tensile deformation behavior of Ti–3Al–4.5V–5Mo titanium alloy was studied. The results show that there are obvious yield points on true stress–true strain curves of annealing structures, then a stress drop occurs. The curves show linear work-softening after yielding at annealing temperature of 720–780 °C and linear work-hardening at annealing temperature of 800–840 °C. Elastic energy stored in the α-phase is dramatically released after plastic deformation of the β-phase, which leads to the stress drop.  相似文献

Young's modulus and tensile properties of cold rolled Ti–8 mass% V and (Ti–8 mass% V)–4 mass% Sn alloy plates consisting of α′ martensite were investigated as a function of tensile axis orientation in this work. A single phase of α′ (hcp) martensite is obtained in Ti–8 mass% V and (Ti–8 mass% V)–4 mass% Sn alloys by quenching after solution treatment. By 86% cold rolling, acicular α′ martensite microstructures change into extremely refined dislocation cell-like structure with an average size of 60 nm, accompanied with the development of cold rolling texture in which the basal plane normal is tilted from the plate normal direction (ND) toward transverse direction (TD) at angles of ±49° for Ti–8% V alloy and ±46° for (Ti–8 mass% V)–4 mass% Sn alloy. No apparent anisotropy of Young's modulus (E) is observed for as-quenched Ti–8% V (E = 76–83 GPa) and (Ti–8% V)-4%Sn (E = 69–79 GPa). In contrast, Young's modulus increases with increasing angle from the rolling direction (RD) to TD for cold rolled Ti–8% V (E = 72–94 GPa) and (Ti–8% V)–4%Sn (E = 63–85 GPa). The observed anisotropy of Young's modulus can be reasonably explained in terms of the cold rolling α′ texture.0.2% proof stress and tensile strength are independent of tensile orientation for cold rolled Ti–8% V and (Ti–8% V)–4%Sn alloys. In contrast, larger elongation to fracture is obtained in specimens deviated by 30°, 45° and 60° from RD than by 0°, 75° and 90°. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) fractographs reveal that quasi-cleavage-like fracture plane appears in 0° specimen of cold rolled Ti–8% V which shows brittle fracture and other specimens of cold rolled Ti–8% V and (Ti–8% V)–4%Sn alloys are fractured accompanied with necking and dimple formation. It is suggested from these results that brittle fracture is related to the activation of limited number of slip system and Sn addition leads to the activation of multiple slip systems.  相似文献

Microstructural characterization of α1-plate and γ2 phase precipitated in hypoeutectoid Cu–10 wt.%Al–0.8 wt.%Be shape-memory alloy (SMA) aged at 200 °C for different periods of time (20–160 h) is researched in this study. High-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM) was employed to investigate the α1-plate with 18R long period stacking order structure (LPSO) in the SMA aged for 20 h. According to the atomic shuffling revealed in HRTEM-micrograph, the atomic model of the 18R LPSO is proposed. The quantitative mapping of electron energy loss spectrometry shows that the α1-plates in the SMA aged for 160 h contain lower aluminum concentration than the parent phase matrix. The lattice image of the nanometer-sized γ2 phase precipitated homogeneously in the SMA aged for 160 h is also revealed by using HRTEM. Precipitation of the nanometer-sized γ2 phase cannot be impeded by means of the addition of beryllium and quenching, and such precipitate does not grow up in the SMA aged for periods of time less than 160 h.  相似文献

The effect of Sn content on the microstructure, phase constitution and shape memory effect of Ti–16Nb–xSn (x = 4.0, 4.5, 5.0 at%) alloys were investigated by means of optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and bending test. With the increase of Sn content, the β phase becomes stable. The solution-treated Ti–16Nb–4Sn alloy is composed of ″ and β phases at room temperature, whereas the solution-treated Ti–16Nb–5Sn alloy is only composed of β phase at room temperature. TEM observation shows that there is parallel lamellar ″ martensite with the substructure of () type I twin in the Ti–16Nb–4Sn alloy. There exists the dislocation wall inside the single β phase in the Ti–16Nb–5Sn alloy. The shape recovery ratio decreases with increasing the bending strain and the bending temperature, which is in correspondence with the different deformation mechanisms at different temperature ranges. The shape recovery ratio shows a decreasing trend with the increase of Sn content at the same bending strain and temperature. The maximum completely recovery strain is around 4%.  相似文献

This work describes the evolution of texture during cold rolling and annealing of a hot rolled and solution treated sheet of a low cost β titanium alloy Ti–10V–4.5Fe–1.5Al. The alloy was cold rolled up to 60% reductions and then annealed in β phase field at different temperatures to study the re-crystallisation textures. The rolling and re-crystallisation textures obtained in this study are compared with those of other β titanium alloys and bcc metals and alloys such as tantalum and low carbon steel.  相似文献

Effect of unidirectional solidification rate on microstructure of hypoeutectic Cu–1.0%Cr alloy was investigated. The microstructure evolution of Cu–1.0%Cr alloy was noticed especially during the unidirectional solidification with the different solidification rates. It is shown that eutectic (α+β) and primary α(Cu) phase grew up equably in parallel to direction of solidification. A kind of fibriform microstructure will appear when unidirectional solidification rate is up to some enough high certain values. When temperature gradient was changeless, the interface morphology evolution of the primary α(Cu) phase underwent to a series of changes from plane to cell, coarse dendrite, and fine dendrite grains with increasing the solidification rates. Primary dendrite arm spacing λ1 of α(Cu) phase increases with increasing the solidification rate where the morphology of the solid/liquid (S/L) interface is cellular. However, λ1 decreases with further increasing the solidification rate where the S/L interface morphology is changed from cell to dendrite-type. Its rule might accord with Jackson–Hunt theory model. An experience equation obtained is as follows: . On the other hand, secondary dendrite spacing λ2 of primary α(Cu) phase will thin gradually with increasing the solidification rate. Moreover, secondary dendrite will become coarse in further solidification. Another experience equation about relationship among secondary dendrite arm spacing (λ2), temperature gradient GL and the velocity of the S/L interface (V) is that: λ2=−0.0003+0.0027(GLV)−1/3. In addition, the volume fraction of eutectic will decrease with the increase of solidification rate.  相似文献

The constitutive behaviour and microstructural evolution of the near-β alloy Ti–5Al–5Mo–5V–3Cr in the α + β condition has been characterised during isothermal subtransus forging at a range of temperatures and strain rates. The results indicate that Ti–5Al–5Mo–5V–3Cr has a shallower approach curve, and therefore, offers a more controllable microstructure than the near-β alloy Ti–10V–2Fe–3Al. Flow softening is small in magnitude in both alloys in the α + β condition. The steady state flow stresses obey a Norton–Hoff constitutive law with an activation energy of Q = 183 kJ mol−1, which is similar to the activation energy for self-diffusion in the β phase, suggesting deformation is dominated by dynamic recovery in the β matrix. Good evidence is found for the existence of ω phase after both air cooling and water quenching from above the β transus. In addition, dissolution of the α phase is found to be slow at near-transus temperatures.  相似文献

Flow stress during hot deformation depends mainly on the strain, strain rate and temperature, and shows a complex and nonlinear relationship with them. A number of semi-empirical models were reported by others to predict the flow stress during hot deformation. This work attempts to develop a back-propagation neural network model to predict the flow stress of Ti–6Al–4V alloy for any given processing conditions. The network was successfully trained across different phase regimes (α + β to β phase) and various deformation domains. This model can predict the mean flow stress within an average error of 5.6% from the experimental values, using strain, strain rate and temperature as inputs. This model seems to have an edge over existing constitutive model, like hyperbolic sine equation, and has a great potential to be employed in industries.  相似文献

Ti–5Al–4Sn–2Zr–1Mo–0.7Nd–0.25Si alloy is a new high temperature titanium alloy for aeroengine use. In this paper, the fatigue crack initiation in this alloy was investigated. At applied maximum nominal stresses less than 500 MPa, most cracks initiate in the matrix away from the Nd-rich particles. Initiation of these cracks is related to the cracking of equiaxed α phase on the prior β grain boundaries. At high applied stresses, almost half of the cracks initiate in the matrix away form the Nd-rich particles and the other half initiate near Nd-rich particles. The probability that an Nd-rich particle initiates a fatigue crack decreases very rapidly as the particle size falls below 12 μm.  相似文献

The flow behavior of Al–Cu–Mg–Ag alloy and its microstructural evolution during hot compression deformation were studied by thermal simulation test. The flow stress increased with increasing the strain rate, and decreased with increasing the deforming temperature, which can be described by a constitutive equation in hyperbolic sine function with the hot deformation activation energy 196.27 kJ/mol, and can also be described by a Zener–Hollomon parameter. The dynamic recrystallization only occurred at low Z values, which must be below or equal to a constant of 5.31 × 1013 s−1. With decreasing Z value, the elongated grains coarsed and the tendency of dynamic recrystallization enhanced. Correspondingly, the subgrain size increased and the dislocation density decreased. And the main soften mechanism of the alloy transformed from dynamic recovery to dynamic recrystallization.  相似文献

Structural analysis by mean of metallographic, SEM fractographic and TEM replica technique including acoustics-emission studies have been carried out on Ti–8Al–1Mo–2V alloy specimen tested at room temperature in gaseous hydrogen environment. The result provided evidences of the presence of face centred cubic titanium hydride at the fracture surfaces, with discontinuous nature of crack propagation. The present work confirmed that an essentially continuous path of β phase is necessary for the occurrence of slow crack growth in gaseous hydrogen. Metallographic and fractographic observation leave little doubt that cracks propagates along the α–β interface rather than through stable α phase.  相似文献

The effect of β-iron intermetallics and porosity on the tensile properties in cast Al–Si–Cu and Al–Si–Mg alloys were investigated for this research study, using experimental and industrial 319.2 alloys, and industrial A356.2 alloys. The results showed that the alloy ductility and ultimate tensile strength (UTS) were subject to deterioration as a result of an increase in the size of β-iron intermetallics, most noticeable up to β-iron intermetallic lengths of 100 μm in 319.2 alloys, or 70 μm in A356.2 alloys. An increase in the size of the porosity was also deleterious to alloy ductility and UTS. Although tensile properties are interpreted by means of UTS vs. log elongation plots in the present study, the properties for all sample conditions were best interpreted by means of log UTS vs. log elongation plots, where the properties increased linearly between conditions of low cooling rate–high Fe and high cooling rate–low Fe. The results are explained in terms of the β-Al5FeSi platelet size and porosity values obtained.  相似文献

A multiphase model for Ti–6Al–4V is proposed. This material is widely used in industrial applications and so needs accurate behaviour modeling. Tests have been performed in the temperature range from 25 °C to 1020 °C and at strain rates between 10−3 s−1 and 1 s−1. This allowed the identification of a multiphase mechanical model coupled with a metallurgical model. The behaviour of each phase is calibrated by solving an inverse problem including a phase transformation model and a mechanical model to simulate tests under thermomechanical loadings. A scale transition rule (β-rule) is proposed in order to represent the redistribution of local stresses linked to the heterogeneity of plastic strain. Finally this model is applied to two laser assisted processes: direct laser fabrication and laser welding.  相似文献

Al–Sc and Al–Sc–Zr alloys containing 0.05, 0.1 and 0.5 wt.% Sc and 0.15 wt.% Zr were investigated using optical microscopy, electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The phase composition of the alloys and the morphology of precipitates that developed during solidification in the sand casting process and subsequent thermal treatment of the samples were studied. XRD analysis shows that the weight percentage of the Al3Sc/Al3(Sc, Zr) precipitates was significantly below 1% in all alloys except for the virgin Al0.5Sc0.15Zr alloy. In this alloy the precipitates were observed as primary dendritic particles. In the binary Al–Sc alloys, ageing at 470 °C for 24 h produced precipitates associated with dislocation networks, whereas the precipitates in the annealed Al–Sc–Zr alloys were free of interfacial dislocations except at the lowest content of Sc. Development of large incoherent precipitates during precipitation heat treatment reduced hardness of all the alloys studied. Growth of the Al3Sc/Al3(Sc, Zr) precipitates after heat treatment was less at low Sc content and in the presence of Zr. Increase in hardness was observed after heat treatment at 300 °C in all alloys. There is a small difference in hardness between binary and ternary alloys slow cooled after sand casting.  相似文献

The microstructure and compressive creep behaviors of as-cast and aging-treated Mg–5 wt% Sn alloys are investigated in this paper. The compressive creep resistance of aging-treated Mg–5 wt% Sn alloy is much better than that of as-cast alloy at the applied stresses from 25 MPa to 35 MPa and the temperatures from 423 K to 473 K, which is mainly due to the dispersive distribution of Mg2Sn phase in the aging-treated Mg–5 wt% Sn alloy. The calculated average values of stress exponent n and activation energy Qc suggest that dislocation cross slip and dislocation climb happen respectively in as-cast and aging-treated Mg–5 wt% Sn alloys during creep.  相似文献

Al–Li–SiCp composites were fabricated by a modified version of the conventional stir casting technique. Composites containing 8, 12 and 18 vol% SiC particles (40 μm) were fabricated. Hardness, tensile and compressive strengths of the unreinforced alloy and composites were determined. Ageing kinetics and effect of ageing on properties were also investigated. Additions of SiC particles increase the hardness, 0.2% proof stress, ultimate tensile strength and elastic modulus of Al–Li–8%SiC and Al–Li–12%SiC composites. In case of the composite reinforced with 18% SiC particles, although the elastic modulus increases the 0.2% proof stress and compressive strength were only marginally higher than the unreinforced alloy and lower than those of Al–Li–8%SiC and Al–Li–12%SiC composites. Clustering of SiC particles appears to be responsible for reduced the strength of Al–Li–18%SiC composite. The fracture surface of unreinforced 8090 Al-Li alloy (8090Al) shows a dimpled structure, indicating ductile mode of failure. Fracture in composites occurs by a mixed mode, giving rise to a bimodal distribution of dimples in the fracture surface. Cleavage of SiC particles was also observed in the fracture surface of composites. Composites show higher peak hardness and lower peak ageing time compared with unreinforced 8090Al alloy. Macro- and microhardness increase significantly after peak ageing. Ageing also results in considerable improvement in strength of the unreinforced 8090Al alloy and its composites. This is attributed to formation of δ (Al3Li) and S (Al2CuMg) precipitates during ageing. Per cent elongation, however, decreases due to age hardening. Al–Li–12%SiC, which shows marginally lower UTS and compressive strength than the Al–Li–8%SiC composite in extruded condition, exhibits higher strength than Al–Li–8%SiC in peak-aged condition.  相似文献

The present study was concerned with the effects of over-aging on damping property and fracture toughness in Ti–6Al–4V alloy. Damping property and toughness become important factors for titanium implants, which have big modulus difference between bone and implant, and need high damping capacity for bone-implant compatability. Widmanstätten, equiaxed, and bimodal microstructures containing fine α2 (Ti3Al) particles were obtained by over-aging a Ti–6Al–4V alloy. Over-aging heat treatment was conducted for 200 h at 545 °C. Fracture toughness, Charpy impact, and bending vibration tests were conducted on the unaged and the over-aged six microstructures, respectively. Charpy absorption energy and apparent fracture toughness decreased as over-aging was done, even if the materials were strengthened by precipitation of very fine and strong α2-Ti3Al particles. On the other hand, damping properties were enhanced by over-aging in Widmanstätten and equiaxed microstructures, but was weakened in bimodal microstructure due to the softening of tempered martensite and the decreasing of elastic difference between tempered martensite and α phase contained α2 particles, etc. These data can provide effective information to future work about internal damping and fracture properties of Ti–6Al–4V alloy.  相似文献

This study investigated the effects of cooling rate during solidification, heat treatment, and the addition of Mn and Sr on the formation of intermetallic phases in Al–11Si–2.5Cu–Mg alloys. Microstructures were monitored using optical microscopy and EPMA techniques. The results reveal that the volume fractions of intermetallic phases are generally much lower in the furnace-cooled samples than in the air-cooled ones due to the dissolution of the β-AlFeSi and Al2Cu phases during slow cooling at critical dissolution temperatures. Strontium additions increased the volume fraction of the Al2Cu phase in the as-cast conditions at low and high cooling rates, as well as at varying ranges of Mn levels. Platelets of the β-AlFeSi phase were to be observed in the microstructure of the as-cast air-cooled samples with a DAS of 40 μm at both Mn levels, while none of these particles were to be found in the furnace-cooled samples with a DAS of 120 μm. Sludge particles were observed in almost all of the air-cooled alloys with sludge factors of between 1.4 and 1.9. These particles, however, were not observed in the furnace-cooled alloys with similar sludge factors. Solution heat treatment coarsens the Si particles in the non-modified alloys under both sets of cooling conditions studied. In the Sr-modified alloys, solution treatment has varied effects depending on the cooling rate and the level of Mn present.  相似文献
