XML,metadata and efficient knowledge discovery

This paper examines a software tool that assists Defence intelligence analysts in efficient discovery and assimilation of large volumes of information derived from a range of sources. The Health INTelligence System (HINTS) is a prototype that was developed during a collaborative Research and Development project between Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) Australia and the Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO). The paper discusses how advanced document analysis techniques were used to assists intelligence analysts to manage, analyse and assimilate large volumes of electronic documents. CSC worked with DSTO to integrate a range of Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) products and several custom built components. The COTS products included a web search engine, a geo-spatial Graphical User Interface, and an eXtensible Markup Language (XML) server. The project team utilised the above technologies to provide a generic design and interface to ensure the prototype is readily configurable to suit a variety of domains.

An efficient compressed domain video indexing method

Video indexing is employed to represent the features of video sequences. Motion vectors derived from compressed video are preferred for video indexing because they can be accessed by partial decoding; thus, they are used extensively in various video analysis and indexing applications. In this study, we introduce an efficient compressed domain video indexing method and implement it on the H.264/AVC coded videos. The video retrieval experimental evaluations indicate that the video retrieval based on the proposed indexing method outperforms motion vector based video retrieval in 74 % of queries with little increase in computation time. Furthermore, we compared our method with a pixel level video indexing method which employs both temporal and spatial features. Experimental evaluation results indicate that our method outperforms the pixel level method both in performance and speed. Hence considering the speed and precision characteristics of indexing methods, the proposed method is an efficient indexing method which can be used in various video indexing and retrieval applications.     

A robust and efficient algorithm for distributed compressed sensing

In this paper we present a new iterative greedy algorithm for distributed compressed sensing (DCS) problem based on the backtracking technique, which can reconstruct several input signals simultaneously by processing column by column of the compressed signals, even when the measurements are contaminated with noise and without any prior information of their sparseness. This makes it a promising candidate for many practical applications when the number of non-zero (significant) coefficients of a signal is not available. Our algorithm can provide a fast runtime while also offers comparably theoretical guarantees as the best optimization-based approach in both the noiseless and noisy regime. Numerical experiments are performed to demonstrate the validity and high performance of the proposed algorithm.

面向软件Agent的XML文档集成

当前，XML已经成为一种可广泛应用于Internet数据存储和交换的半结构伦数据文档信息管理技术，但是，即使是在DTD的说明配合下，Internet上普遍存在的不同XML数据源之间的集成与连接操作对于广大程序员而言，依然是一项极其复杂和繁琐的工作，本文根据XML文当的DTD语义特点，提出并实现了一种基地软件Agent来辅助进行DTD文档分析的XML文档的集成系统框架，有关的研究与应用实践表明，通过采用软件Agent的来引导和辅助XML文档的DTD语义分析与集成，能够在增加处理工作的自动化程度的基础上，极大的提高XML文档与数据的集成和交换自动化程度，有效的减缓软件人员的工作强度。     

基于本体的XML语义集成和查询的研究

XML因其结构上的灵活性和易扩展性已经成为Web上异构数据转换和传输的标准,但是含有不同模式的XML数据源之间却很难进行相互操作,这给XML数据检索带来了更大的不便.先提出一种从XML模式到OWL本体的映射算法,然后借助共享全局本体和同义词典实现多个映射后的本体在语义上的集成从而解决XML结构异构的问题,最后提出一种利用语义集成进行XML语义查询的框架并初步实现.     

XML sets stage for efficient knowledge management

IT managers use knowledge management (KM) tools to capture maintain, and exploit strategic information that their companies need to conduct business. This information might consist of data describing operational best practices, tactical marketing results such as assessment of a competitor's market share, or even the contents of laboratory notebooks. In every case, preserving the data's context is essential when acquiring, processing, or storing the information. The Extensible Markup Language provides a means for preserving this context. The paper considers how XML provides the context for turning a data set into information; KM provides the tools for managing this information     

高效查询的XML编码方案

在XML数据查询中,结构连接操作占用了大量时间。针对这个问题,提出一种高效查询的编码方案—LSEQ编码。它将节点路径信息进行分解,避免记录路径的重复信息,减小了编码长度;同时支持节点祖先后代关系,父子关系和兄弟关系的表示。LSEQ编码通过记录非叶节点的路径,在节点查询中避免了结构连接操作,提高了查询效率。实验表明LSEQ编码提高了空间利用率,在查询速度上具有出良好的性能。
