In order to modify the cycle stability of low-Co AB5-type alloy, a trace of boron was added in MmNi3.8Co0.4Mn0.6Al0.2 hydrogen storage alloy. The low-Co AB5-type alloys MmNi3.8Co0.4Mn0.6Al0.2Bx(x=0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4) were prepared by cast and rapid quenching. The cycle lives and microstructures of the as-cast and quenched alloys were measured and analyzed. The effects of boron additive on the microstructures and cycle lives of as-cast and quenched alloys were investigated comprehensively. The obtained results showed that the addition of boron could dramatically enhance the cycle lives of the as-cast and quenched alloys. When boron content x increases from 0 to 0.4, the cycle lives of the as-cast alloys were increased from 118 to 183 cycles, and for as-quenched alloys with quenching rate of 38 m/s from 310 to 566 cycles.  相似文献

Non-stoichiometric La-rich MmNi3.55Co0.75Mn0.4Al0.3B0.3 hydrogen storage alloys using B–Ni or B–Fe alloy as additive and Ce-rich MmNi3.55Co0.75Mn0.4Al0.3B0.3 one using pure B as additive have been prepared and their microstructure, thermodynamic, and electrochemical characteristics have been examined. It is found that all investigated alloys show good activation performance and high-rate dischargeability though there is a certain decrease in electrochemical capacities compared with the commercial MmNi3.55Co0.75Mn0.4Al0.3 alloy. MmNi3.55Co0.75Mn0.4Al0.3B0.3 alloys using B–Ni alloy as additive or adopting Ce-rich mischmetal show excellent rate capability and can discharge capacity over 190 mAh/g even under 3000 mA/g current density, which display their promising use in the high-power type Ni/MH battery. The electrochemical performances of these MmNi3.55Co0.75Mn0.4Al0.3B0.3 alloys are well correlated with their microstructure, thermodynamic, and kinetic characteristics.  相似文献

The nanocrystalline and amorphous Mg2Ni-type alloys with nominal compositions of Mg2Ni1−xMnx (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4) were synthesized by melt spinning technique. The structures of the as-cast and spun alloys were characterized by XRD, SEM and HRTEM. The hydrogen absorption and desorption kinetics of the alloys were measured by an automatically controlled Sieverts apparatus. The electrochemical hydrogen storage performances were tested by an automatic galvanostatic system. The results show that the as-spun (x = 0) alloy holds a typical nanocrystalline structure, whereas the as-spun (x = 0.4) alloy displays a nanocrystalline and amorphous structure, confirming that the substitution of Mn for Ni facilitates the glass formation in the Mg2Ni-type alloy. The hydrogen absorption capacity of the alloys first increases then decreases with rising Mn content, but the hydrogen desorption capacity of the alloys grows with increasing Mn content. Furthermore, the substitution of Mn for Ni significantly improves the electrochemical hydrogen storage performances of the alloys, involving both the discharge capacity and the electrochemical cycle stability. With an increase in the amount of Mn from 0 to 0.4, the discharge capacity of as-spun (30 m/s) alloy grows from 116.7 to 311.5 mAh/g, and its capacity retaining rate at 20th charging and discharging cycle rises from 36.7 to 78.7%.  相似文献

Charge and discharge testing, linear polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potential step chronoamperometry (PSCA) were used to investigate the electrochemical properties of the Ce-rich mischmetal MmNi3.8Co0.75Mn0.4Al0.2 hydrogen storage alloy with different particle sizes. At a discharge current density of 900 mA/g, the alloy with small original particle size maintained a high rate dischargeability (HRD) above 86% while the alloy with large particle size could not discharge in the same potential region. The alloy with small original particle size also showed lower contact resistances and polarization resistance after full activation. Both the exchange current density and the hydrogen diffusion coefficient increased when the hydrogen concentration decreased. The charge-transfer reaction on the surface of alloy particles with different sizes should be mainly responsible for the differences in electrochemical properties, especially the HRD.  相似文献

The structure and electrochemical properties of LaNi4.4 − xCo0.3Mn0.3Alx hydrogen storage alloys have been investigated by XRD and simulated battery test, including maximum capacity, cyclic stability, self-discharge, high-rate dischargeability (HRD). Samples A, B, C and D were used to represent alloys LaNi4.4Co0.3Mn0.3Al, LaNi4.3Co0.3Mn0.3Al0.1, LaNi4.2Co0.3Mn0.3Al0.2 and LaNi4.1Co0.3Mn0.3Al0.3 respectively. The results indicated that as-prepared LaNi4.4 − xCo0.3Mn0.3Alx alloys are all single-phase alloys with hexagonal CaCu5 type structure. The maximum discharge capacity is 330.4 mAh g−1 (Alloy C). With the increase of Al content from A to D, cycle life of alloy electrode has been improved. Higher capacity retention of 89.29% (after 50 charge/discharge cycles) has been observed for electrode D, while with a smaller capacity loss of 12.5% in its self-discharge test. Better high-rate charge/discharge behaviors have been observed in electrode B, and the maximum data is 54.7% at charge current of 900 mA/g) and 68.54% at discharge current of 1800 mA/g). Furthermore, the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) analysis shown that the reaction of alloy electrode is controlled by charge-transfer step. The addition of Al results in the formation of protective layer of aluminum oxides on the surface of the alloy electrode, which is good for the improvement of electrode properties in alkaline solution and is detrimental for the charge-transfer process. Therefore, a suitable addition of Al is needed to improve its electrode properties.  相似文献

The effect of neodymium content on the structure and low-temperature (233 K) electrochemical properties of the La0.8−xNdxMg0.2Ni3.1Co0.25Al0.15 (x = 0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4) hydrogen storage alloys was investigated systematically. The result of the Rietveld analyses suggested that all these alloys mainly consist of two phases: the (La, Mg)2Ni7 phase and the LaNi5 phase. The electrochemical studies revealed that, at temperature 233 K, the maximum discharge capacity first increased from 188.5 mAh/g (x = 0.0) to 201.7 mAh/g (x = 0.1) and then decreased to 153.9 mAh/g (x = 0.4). The low-temperature dischargeability (LTD) first increased and then decreased with increasing x, also reaching an extreme when x was 0.10. The LTD was in agreement with the I0, but was irrespective of the diffusion of hydrogen. From our work, the optimum composition of the La0.8−xNdxMg0.2Ni3.1Co0.25Al0.15 (x = 0.0–0.4) alloy electrodes was found to be x = 0.10.  相似文献

The structures and properties of hydrogen storage alloy Mg2Ni, of aluminum and silver substituted alloys Mg2−xMxNi (M = Al and Ag, x = 0.16667), and of their hydrides Mg2NiH4, Mg2−xMxNiH4 (M = Al and Ag, x = 0.125) have been calculated from first-principles. Results show that the primitive cell sizes of the intermetallic alloys and hydrides were reduced by substitution of Mg with Al or Ag. Also, the interaction of Ni–Ni was weakened by the substitution. A strong covalent interaction between H and Ni atoms forms tetrahedral NiH4 units in Mg2NiH4. The NiH4 unit near the Al/Ag atom became tripod-like NiH3 in Mg2−xMxNiH4 (M = Al, Ag), indicating that the hydrogen storage capacity was decreased by the substitution. The calculated enthalpies of hydrogenation for Mg2Ni, Mg2−xAlxNi and Mg2−xAgxNi are −65.14, −51.56 and −53.63 kJ/mol H2, respectively, implying that the substitution destabilizes the hydrides. Therefore, the substitution is an effective technique for improving the thermodynamic behavior of hydrogenation/dehydrogenation in magnesium-based hydrogen storage materials.  相似文献

In order to improve the electrochemical performance of the La–Mg–Ni system A2B7-type electrode alloys, La in the alloy was partially substituted by Pr and melt spinning technology was used for preparing La0.75−xPrxMg0.25Ni3.2Co0.2Al0.1 (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4) electrode alloys. The microstructures and electrochemical performance of the as-cast and spun alloys were investigated in detail. The results obtained by XRD, SEM and TEM show that the as-cast and spun alloys have a multiphase structure which consists of two main phases (La, Mg)Ni3 and LaNi5 as well as a residual phase LaNi2. The substitution of Pr for La leads to an obvious increase of the (La, Mg)Ni3 phase and a decrease of the LaNi5 phase in the alloys. The results of the electrochemical measurement indicate that the discharge capacity of the alloys first increases and then decreases with variation of the Pr content. The cycle stability of the alloy monotonically rises with increasing Pr content. When the Pr content rises from 0 to 0.4, the discharge capacity increases from 389.4 (x = 0) to 392.4 (x = 0.1) and then drops to 383.7 mAh/g (x = 0.4) for the as-cast alloy. Discharge capacity increases from 393.5 (x = 0) to 397.9 (x = 0.1), and then declines to 382.5 mAh/g for the as-spun (5 m/s) alloys. The capacity remaining after 100 cycles increases from 65.32 to 79.36% for the as-cast alloy, and from 73.97 to 93.08% for the as-spun (20 m/s) alloy.  相似文献

Mg2Ni1−xMnx(x = 0, 0.125, 0.25, 0.375) electrode alloys are prepared by mechanical alloying (MA) under argon atmosphere at room temperature using a planetary high-energy ball mill. The microstructures are characterized by XRD and SEM. XRD analysis results indicate that the substitution of Mn for Ni could inhibit the formation of MgNi2 phase with the increases of x from 0 to 0.375. Replacing Ni with Mn can also promote the formation of the amorphous phase when x increases from 0 to 0.25 for the MA alloys milled for 48 h. The new phase Mg3MnNi2 is formed only when x = 0.375 after 48 h of milling. This new phase belongs to the face-centered cubic lattice (Fd-3m) with the lattice constant a being 1.1484 nm. Estimated from the peaks broadening, the crystallite size and lattice strain of Mg3MnNi2 phase are 15.6 ± 3.6 nm and 1.09 ± 0.34%, respectively. Curve fit of XRD shows that amorphous and nanocrystalline Mg2Ni coexist in the Mg2Ni1−xMnx (x = 0, 0.125, 0.25) alloys milled for 48 h. The SEM observation reveals that all the MA alloys particles are mainly flaky and show cleavage fracture morphology and these particles are agglomerates of many smaller particles, namely subparticles. Electrochemical measurements indicate that all MA alloys have excellent activation properties. The discharge capacities of MA alloys increase with the prolongation of milling time. For 16 h of milling, with the increase of Mn content, the discharge capacities of Mg2Ni1−xMnx (x = 0, 0.125, 0.25, 0.375) MA alloys monotonously decrease. For 24 h of milling, the discharge capacities of the Mg2Ni1−xMnx (x = 0, 0.125, 0.25, 0.375) alloys also show a rough tendency to decrease with the increase of Mn content except Mg2Ni0.875Mn0.125 MA alloy. On the other hand, for 48 h of milling, as the rise of Mn content from x = 0.125 to 0.375, the discharge capacities increase. Mg(OH)2 is formed during charge/discharge cycles in the KOH solution for all MA alloys. After 48 h of milling, the substitution of Mn for Ni for x = 0.25 improves the cycle stability at the expense of decreasing the discharge capacity. In contrast, Mg3MnNi2 phase is relatively stable during charge/discharge cycles and therefore can significantly enhance the cycle stability under simultaneously maintaining a high discharge capacity.  相似文献

Mg2NiH4, with fast sorption kinetics, is considered to be a promising hydrogen storage material. However, its hydrogen desorption enthalpy is too high for practical applications. In this paper, first-principles calculations based on density functional theory (DFT) were performed to systematically study the effects of Al doping on dehydrogenation properties of Mg2NiH4, and the underlying dehydrogenation mechanism was investigated. The energetic calculations reveal that partial component substitution of Mg by Al results in a stabilization of the alloy Mg2Ni and a destabilization of the hydride Mg2NiH4, which significantly alters the hydrogen desorption enthalpy ΔHdes for the reaction Mg2NiH4 → Mg2Ni + 2H2. A desirable enthalpy value of ∼0.4 eV/H2 for application can be obtained for a doping level of x ≥ 0.35 in Mg2−xAlxNi alloy. The stability calculations by considering possible decompositions indicate that the Al-doped Mg2Ni and Mg2NiH4 exhibit thermodynamically unstable with respect to phase segregation, which explains well the experimental results that these doped materials are multiphase systems. The dehydrogenation reaction of Al-doped Mg2NiH4 is energetically favorable to perform from a metastable hydrogenated state to a multiphase dehydrogenated state composed of Mg2Ni and Mg3AlNi2 as well as NiAl intermetallics. Further analysis of density of states (DOS) suggests the improving of dehydrogenation properties of Al-doped Mg2NiH4 can be attributed to the weakened Mg-Ni and Ni-H interactions and the decreasing bonding electrons number below Fermi level. The mechanistic understanding gained from this study can be applied to the selection and optimization of dopants for designing better hydrogen storage materials.  相似文献

Mg2−xAlxNi (x = 0, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7) hydrogen storage alloys used as the negative electrode in a nickel–metal hydride (Ni–MH) battery were successfully prepared by means of hydriding combustion synthesis (HCS) and the selected alloy Mg1.5Al0.5Ni was further modified by mechanical milling (MM). The structural and electrochemical hydrogen storage properties of Mg2−xAlxNi alloys have been investigated in detail. XRD results show that a new phase Mg3AlNi2 that possesses an excellent cycling stability is observed with the substitution of Al for Mg. A short-time mechanical milling has a significant effect on improving the discharge capacity of the HCS product of Mg1.5Al0.5Ni. The maximum discharge capacity of Mg1.5Al0.5Ni ascends with increasing mechanical milling time and reaches the maximum 245.5 mAh/g when milled for 10 h. The alloy milled for 5 h shows the best electrochemical kinetics, which is due to its smaller mean particle size and uniform distribution of the particles. Further increasing in mechanical milling time could not bring about better electrochemical kinetics, which might be attributed to the agglomeration of the alloy particles and thus the charge-transfer reaction and hydrogen diffusion are restrained. It is suggested that the novel method of HCS + MM is promising to prepare ternary Mg-based intermetallic compound for electrochemical hydrogen storage.  相似文献

Effects of the Mn substitution on microstructures and hydrogen absorption/desorption properties of LaNi3.8Al1.2−xMnx (x = 0.2, 0.4, 0.6) hydrogen storage alloys were investigated. The pressure-composition (PC) isotherms and absorption kinetics were measured in a temperature range of 433 K ≤ T ≤ 473 K by the volumetric method. XRD analyses showed that with the increase of the Mn content in the LaNi3.8Al1.2−xMnx alloys, the lattice parameter a was decreased, c increased and the unit cell volume V reduced. It was found that the absorption/desorption plateau pressure was increased and the hydrogen storage capacity was enhanced with the increase of Mn content. The absorption/desorption plateau pressure of the alloys was linearly changed with the Mn content x and the lattice parameter a, while the hydrogen storage capacity was linearly increased with the increase of c/a ratio. It was also found that the slope factor Sf was closely correlated with the lattice strain of the alloys.  相似文献

The partial replacement of La by M (M = Pr, Zr) has been performed in order to ameliorate the electrochemical hydrogen storage performances of La–Mg–Ni-based A2B7-type electrode alloys. For this purpose, we adopt melt spinning technology to prepare the La0.75−xMxMg0.25Ni3.2Co0.2Al0.1 (M = Pr, Zr; x = 0, 0.2) electrode alloys. Then systemically investigate the effects that the preparation methods and M (M = Pr, Zr) substitution have on the structures and electrochemical hydrogen storage characteristics of the alloys. The analysis of XRD and TEM reveals that the as-cast and spun alloys hold a multiphase structure, containing two main phases (La, Mg)2Ni7 and LaNi5 as well as a trace of residual phase LaNi2. Besides, the as-spun (M = Pr) alloy displays an entire crystalline structure, while an amorphous-like structure is detected in the as-spun (M = Zr) alloy, implying the replacement of La by Zr facilitates forming amorphous phase. Based upon electrochemical measurements, an impact engendered by melt spinning on the electrochemical performances of the alloys appears to be evident. The cycle stabilities monotonously augment with the growing of the spinning rate. The discharge capacity and high rate discharge ability (HRD), however, exhibit difference. For the (M = Pr) alloy, they first mount up and then fall with the rising of the spinning rate, whereas for the (M = Zr) alloy, they always decline as the spinning rate elevates. Furthermore, the replacement of La by M (M = Pr, Zr) considerably enhances the cycle stability of the alloys and the replacement of La by Pr clearly increases the discharge capacity, but the Zr replacement results in an adverse impact.  相似文献

ReNi2.6−xMnxCo0.9 (x = 0.0, 0.225, 0.45, 0.675, 0.90) alloys were prepared by induction melting. The effects of partially substituting Mn for Ni on the phase structure and electrochemical properties of the alloys were investigated systematically. In the alloys, (La, Ce)2Ni7 phase with a Ce2Ni7-type structure, (Pr, Ce)Co3 phase with a PuNi3-type structure, and (La, Pr)Ni5 phase with a CaCu5-type structure were the main phases. The (La,Pr)Ni phase appeared when x increased to 0.45, and the (La, Pr)Ni5 phase disappeared with further increasing x (x > 0.45). The hydrogen-storage capacity of the ReNi2.6−xMnxCo0.9 (x = 0.0, 0.225, 0.45, 0.675, 0.90) alloys initially increased and reached a maximum when Mn content was x = 0.45, and then decreased with further increasing Mn content. The ReNi2.6−xMnxCo0.9 (x = 0.0, 0.225, 0.45, 0.675, 0.90) alloy exhibited a hydrogen-storage capacity of 0.81, 0.98, 1.04, 0.83 and 0.53 wt.%, respectively. Electrochemical studies showed that the maximum discharge capacity of the alloy electrodes initially increased from 205 mAh/g (x = 0.0) to 352 mAh/g (x = 0.45) and then decreased to 307 mAh/g (x = 90). The hydrogen absorption rate first increased and then decreased with addition of Mn element. The ReNi2.15Mn0.45Co0.9 alloy showed faster hydrogen absorption kinetics than that of the other alloys. The presence of Mn element slowed hydrogen desorption kinetics.  相似文献

Hydrogen storage alloy MmNi3.6Mn0.4Al0.3Co0.7 (MH) was tested as anode material in a metal hydride–air cell. The cathode was a non-noble metal air electrode based on a mixture of perovskite and pyrolyzed macrocycles on carbon. Polarization and discharge capacities of the electrodes were measured and compared at 22 °C and 40 °C using air or oxygen at the cathode. Discharge capacity reaching 330 mAh/g MH with pure oxygen at 40 °C and 305 mAh/g MH with air at 22 °C were obtained. Power densities and/or energy densities were found to significantly depend on the increase of the electrode kinetics on both the ORR (oxygen reduction reaction) and HOR (hydrogen oxidation reaction). However, for air electrode, an increase of oxygen concentration by using pure oxygen gas plays a more important role than an 18 °C temperature increase.  相似文献

Brownmillerite oxide Ca2Fe2−xCoxO5 (x = 0.2, 0.4, 0.6) was characterized by XRD, SEM and electrochemical impedance spectrum (EIS), respectively. Ca2Fe2−xCoxO5 has no reaction with Sm0.2Ce0.8O1.9 (SDC) electrolyte at 1100 °C for 10 h in air. The thermal expansion coefficient (TEC) of Ca2Fe2−xCoxO5 increased with increasing Co content, and the TEC value was compatible with SDC. The electrode properties of Ca2Fe2−xCoxO5 were studied under various temperatures and oxygen partial pressures. The polarization resistance (Rp) of Ca2Fe2−xCoxO5 with x = 0.2, 0.4 and 0.6 are 0.23, 0.48 and 1.05 Ω cm2 at 700 °C in air, respectively. The rate-limiting step for oxygen reduction reaction was the charge transfer process. Ca2Fe1.8Co0.2O5 cathode exhibits the lowest overpotential of about 50 mV at a current density of 70 mA cm−2 at 700 °C in air.  相似文献

LiNi0.6CoxMn0.4−xO2 (x = 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, 0.2) cathode materials are prepared, and their structural and electrochemical properties are investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), differential scanning calorimetric (DSC) and charge–discharge test. The results show that well-ordering layered LiNi0.6CoxMn0.4−xO2 (x = 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, 0.2) cathode materials are successfully prepared in air at 850 °C. The increase of the Co content in LiNi0.6Mn0.4−xCoxO2 leads to the acceleration of the grain growth, the increase of the initial discharge capacity and the deterioration of the cycling performance of LiNi0.6Mn0.4−xCoxO2. It also leads to the enhancement of the ratio Ni3+/Ni2+ in LiNi0.6CoxMn0.4−xO2, which is approved by the XPS analysis, resulting in the increase of the phase transition during cycling. This is speculated to be main reason for the deteriotion of the cycling performance. All synthesized LiNi0.6CoxMn0.4−xO2 samples charged at 4.3 V show exothermic peaks with an onset temperature of larger than 255 °C, and give out less than 400 J g−1 of total heat flow associated with the peaks in DSC analysis profile, exhibiting better thermal stability. LiNi0.6Co0.05Mn0.35O2 with low Co content and good thermal stability presents a capacity of 156.6 mAh g−1 and 98.5% of initial capacity retention after 50 cycles, showing to be a promising cathode materials for Li-ion batteries.  相似文献

The effect of the iron content on the structural and electrochemical characteristics (20–60 °C) of the La0.78Ce0.22Ni3.73Mn0.30Al0.17FexCo0.8−x (x = 0, 0.2, 0.5, 0.8) hydrogen storage alloys has been investigated systematically. With increasing Fe content and temperature, the discharge capacity and high rate dischargeability deteriorates, but the difference among the four alloys almost disappears with temperature increases. However the cycling life and self-discharge characteristic improve, especially at high temperature (60 °C), the cycling stability increases from 7.1% of high-Co alloy to 44.1% of high-Fe alloy and the charge retention increases from 51.8% to 70.9% respectively. In addition, the high-temperature dischargeability and high-temperature recovery properties also improve when x = 0.8. Electrochemical kinetics, potentiodynamic polarization, inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy and scanning electron microscope analyses were conducted to investigate the surface corrosion of the alloys. The results demonstrated that the dissolution of Ni, Mn and Al can be suppressed significantly in virtue of the sacrifice of Fe content, leading to a good relative anti-corrosion ability of high-Fe alloy, and consequently, excellent cycling stability, charge retention and other high-temperature performance obtained.  相似文献

LaY1.9Ni10.2−xAlxMn0.5 (x = 0–0.6) hydrogen storage alloys have been prepared using a vacuum induction-quenching furnace and annealed at 1148 K for 16 h. The alloys are composed of Ce2Ni7- and Gd2Co7-type phases and an extra Pr5Co19-type phase appears when x = 0.6. Aluminum tends to enter the inner AB5 slabs of Ce2Ni7- and Gd2Co7-type phases and promotes the generation of new AB5 slabs. The maximum discharge capacity of the alloy electrodes is stable at approximate 375 mA h/g as x increases from 0 to 0.4 and then decreases to 364.2 mA h/g (x = 0.6). The cycling capacity retention rate at the 300th cycle is 59.4%, 62.0%, 62.7% and 58.7% for x = 0, 0.2, 0.4 and 0.6, respectively, indicating that the function of aluminum on improving the cyclic stability of the alloy electrodes is limited. The main reason is that the similar pulverization degrees of the alloys are presented during the charge/discharge cycles.  相似文献
