The injection of liquid in a hot fluidized bed is used in many industrial processes. The larger droplets are likely to engulf particles and create agglomerates that should be avoided when a fast vaporization is expected. A new model is proposed to estimate the chances of agglomeration based on a critical bed temperature below which agglomerates form. This critical temperature for safe operating conditions is based on heat transfer between the particles and the liquid and takes the porosity of the solid into account. The model could be applied to pure and multi‐component mixtures and has been validated experimentally.  相似文献

Fluidized bed spray agglomeration is used in the industry to increase the particle size and to improve several properties, for example, bulk density, flowability, and dissolution behavior of particulate products. Usually, a binder liquid is sprayed on a particle bed. If amorphous materials are used, spraying of pure water may cause agglomeration due to glass transition at wet spots on the particle surface. As no process models covering binder‐less spray agglomeration currently exist, a model based on a Monte Carlo method is presented. In this method, the process is described by events and processes on the single particle scale. Additionally, agglomeration experiments in a lab‐scale fluidized bed using three different maltodextrins are presented. For each experiment, a simulation was performed. The simulation results are compared with the obtained experimental data. © 2018 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 64: 3582–3594, 2018  相似文献

This work deals with estimating the dominant size enlargement mechanism in spray fluidized beds. A new process model is presented, which consists of population balances and a heat- and mass-transfer model. New methods to incorporate the wet surface fraction and the Stokes criterion are proposed, which allow for the probability of wet collisions and the probability of successful wet collisions to be calculated. The product of these parameters, the probability of successful collisions, is linked to the dominant size enlargement mechanism. Simulation studies were performed to investigate the influence of inlet gas temperature, viscosity, droplet size, and contact angle on the probability of successful collisions. Further simulation results based on experiments available in literature suggest that exceeding a probability of successful collisions of 0.001 is sufficient for agglomeration to become dominant. Otherwise, layering will be the dominant size enlargement mechanism. Finally, regime maps of layering and agglomeration are constructed.  相似文献

Agglomeration is a major problem in biomass fired fluidized bed combustors and gasifiers. Mechanism, reduction options and detection techniques of agglomeration are reviewed. Agglomeration may be classified broadly into three types: defluidization induced agglomeration, melt‐induced agglomeration and coating‐induced agglomeration. Sodium and potassium content of the biomass are the major contributors to the agglomeration in biomass fired fluidized beds. Higher temperature, lower fluidizing velocity and coarser bed particles also increase the risk of agglomeration. Alternative bed materials, additives or the co‐combustion of biomass with other fuels can reduce agglomeration potential of a fluidized bed. Two agglomeration detection techniques are discussed: controlled fluidized bed agglomeration and early agglomeration recognition system.  相似文献

A novel nonintrusive technique is presented to investigate hydrodynamic and thermal behavior of gas–solid spout‐fluidized beds with liquid injection, by simultaneously capturing visual and infrared images. Experiments were performed in a pseudo‐2D bed with draft plates filled with glass or γ‐alumina particles to investigate the effect of liquid injection and particle properties on the flow characteristics. For the glass particles under dry and wet conditions, time‐averaged particle velocities show similar quasi‐steady‐state behavior. However, under wet conditions, lower particle velocities were observed in both spout and annulus as compared with the dry system. Whereas, γ‐alumina particles do not show considerable variation in the particle velocities under dry and wet conditions and fluidize well at higher liquid injection rates. Additionally, for the glass particles, the particle temperature significantly decreases as compared to the γ‐alumina particles. © 2015 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 61: 1146–1159, 2015  相似文献

A model is developed to determine an optimum apparatus geometry and, for given apparatus dimensions, a financially optimal fluidized bed height. The parameters that effect the operating costs are the bed mass, the apparatus diameter and the gas mass flow rate. To implement such cost optimization, a physics‐based mathematical model for describing the thermodynamic processes in fluidized bed steam‐drying is briefly explained and presented. The most important conclusion is not to operate the fluidized bed for a drying process below a certain minimum cost, calculated with the help of the modelling. The problem, when describing the drying process and consequently the mass transfer, is that in the superheated steam drying case studied here, water is evaporated as moisture and withdrawn into an atmosphere of vapor water.  相似文献

This paper summarises the experimental and modelling work carried out for the variation of bed ignition temperature of a fluidized bed combustor with the char particle diameter and the fluidizing velocity. A lignite char was used and its reactivity was represented using data from Field (1967) and Turnbull and Davidson (1984). The modelling involved solving the steady state heat balance around the fluidized bed combustor at the ignition temperature. A correlation of the total area of char ignited per unit bed mass was determined as a function of the char particle diameter and the fluidizing velocity. This correlation was used to determine the ignition temperature of the fluidized bed combustor operating at different conditions. The fluidized bed combustor heat balance was then solved for the bed ignition temperature which was influenced by both the rate of heat loss from the bed and the reactivity of the char. A sensitivity analysis suggests that the chemical rate reaction coefficient is the most prominent variable when determining the ignition temperature of a fluidized bed combustor.  相似文献

The fluidization characteristics of anthraquinone hydrogenation catalysts were investigated in a liquid–solid fluidized bed. The effects of the initial bed conditions such as particle size, bed depth‐to‐column diameter ratio and liquid density and viscosity on the fluidization behaviour, bed expansion and applicability of the Richardson–Zaki equation were studied. The results reveal a strong particle size effect on the Richardson–Zaki (R‐Z) expansion index which in general decreased as the particle diameter increased. One type of particles exhibited two distinct bed expansion behaviours, depending mainly on the bed depth‐to‐column diameter ratio, with an experimentally established boundary at . This behaviour could be attributed to increasing wall friction and a tendency to exhibit slugging. The dependence of the Richardson–Zaki exponent on the liquid dynamic viscosity confirms the classic result .  相似文献

We report granular temperature and solid fraction fields for a thin rectangular bed (20×200 mm cross-section and 500 mm high) of glass particles (mean diameter of 165 μm and density of 2500 kg/m3) fluidized by water for superficial velocities ranging from 0.05Ut, which is approximately double the minimum fluidization velocity, to 0.49Ut, where Ut is the particle terminal velocity estimated by fitting the Richardson-Zaki correlation to the bed expansion data. At superficial velocities below 0.336Ut, the solid fraction and granular temperature are uniform throughout the bed. At higher superficial velocities, the solid fraction tends to decrease with height above the distributor, whilst the granular temperature first increases to a maximum before decaying towards the top of the bed. Correlation of the mean granular temperature with the mean solid fraction and the local granular temperature with the local solid fraction both suggest that the granular temperature in the liquid fluidized bed can be described solely in terms of the solid fraction. The granular temperature increases monotonically with solid fraction to a maximum at φ≈0.18 where it then decreases monotonically as φ approaches the close-packed limit.  相似文献

Experiments were conducted in a liquid-solid circulating fluidized bed to study the effect of liquid viscosity and solids inventory on pressure gradient, critical transitional liquid velocity, onset average solids holdup, axial solids holdup distribution, average solids holdup and solids circulation rate in circulating fluidization regime with riser operated in fixed inventory mode. The results indicate that critical transitional liquid velocity decreases with increase in liquid viscosity. The onset average solids holdup, on the other hand, increases with increase in either auxiliary liquid velocity or solids inventory. The variation of axial solids holdup distribution, average solids holdup and solids circulation rate with liquid viscosity when solid inventory was 0.15 m was dissimilar with either 0.25 m or 0.35 m solid inventory. Correlations were proposed for estimating the average solids holdup and are satisfactorily compared with experimental values.  相似文献

A model based on the Monte Carlo approach was developed to simulate the mixing and combustion behavior of a shallow coal-limestone fluidized bed combustor. The model involved the coupling of two sub-models: a combustion sub-model based on the two-phase concept of fluidization and a mixing sub-model based on our previously developed dynamic mixing model. The combustion sub-model considered both the volatile and char combustion. It assumed that the combustor consisted of three distinct phases, i.e., jet, bubble and emulsion, with combustion occurring only in the emulsion phase. The mixing sub-model considered the upward or downward movement of a coal particle in the bed as being governed by certain probability laws; these laws were, in turn, affected by the bubbling hydrodynamics. In all, the combustor simulation model took into consideration the effects of coal feed rate, coal size distribution, limestone size, air flow rate and combustor temperature on the combustor behavior. The simulation results included the dynamic response of coal concentration profile, coal size distribution, coal particle elutriation rate as well as the mixing status between the coal and limestone particles.  相似文献

The effect of bubble injection characteristics on the mixing behavior of a gas‐solid fluidized bed is investigated using a discrete particle model. The effect of different parameters including gas injection time, velocity, and mode are studied. Simulation results show that injecting gas at a constant gas flow rate in the form of small bubbles results in a better overall particle mixing. It was also found that the injection velocities have limited effect on particle mixing behavior for the same total gas volume injected into the bed. Moreover, the mixing index (MI) of continuous gas jet bubbling regime is compared with the MI obtained in uniform gas injection regime and the results revealed that the MI of continuous jet bubbling regime has a larger value than that of uniform gas injection regime at the fixed total gas flow rate. In both regimes, z‐direction MI is larger than x‐direction index. The differences between two direction indices are more noticeable in continuous jet bubbling in comparison with the uniform gas injection regime. © 2016 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 62: 1430–1438, 2016  相似文献

In order to understand the effect of temperature on slug properties, the onset velocity of slugging, slug rising velocity and slug frequency have been measured by a differential pressure method in an electrically heated gas fluidized bed of 0.1 m i.d. and height of 1.97 m and, with respect to variations in gas velocity (Umf∼0.15 m/s) and temperature (25-400 °C). Air was used as fluidizing gas and fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) catalyst particle (Geldart's group-A particle, dp=0.071 mm, ρp=1600 kg/m3) as bed material. The minimum slugging velocity was found to increase a little with bed temperature. The qualitative change in minimum slugging velocity was found to agree with the inverse of minimum fluidizing velocity as temperature was varied. As the bed temperature increased, slug frequency was found to decrease a little, whereas slug rising velocity increased. A correlation between slug rising velocity and bed temperature was proposed.  相似文献

Although axial liquid dispersion has been studied extensively in particulate fluidized beds, no data has been reported previously in a liquid–solid circulating fluidized bed (LSCFb). In this work, the axial liquid dispersions at various radial positions were measured in an LSCFB of 76 mm in diameter and 3.0 m in height using a dual conductivity probe. The results reveal that the axial liquid dispersion is affected not only by the operating conditions but by the radial positions as well. A local axial dispersion model is proposed to describe the axial liquid dispersion at various radial positions. The local axial liquid dispersion coefficients determined by the proposed model are greater at the axis than near the wall region of the riser. This nonuniformity of axial liquid dispersion is believed to be caused by the radial nonuniform distribution of liquid velocity, and bed voidage in the LSCFB can significantly affect the axial liquid dispersion.  相似文献

A new fluidized bed thermogravimetric analyzer (FB‐TGA) was developed that introduces two major particularities: the pseudo variation of the weight of the reactor and the special strategy for gas flow rate adjustment according to temperature. A momentum balance was performed on the reactor and the pseudo variation of the reactor weight was evaluated by measuring the pressure drop through the gas distributor and filter. The real weight loss of the reactor was obtained by subtracting the pseudo variation of the weight from the total weight loss measured by the load cell. In addition, a special program for the gas flow rate as a function of temperature was developed and used; so the minimum fluidization regime is maintained throughout all of the experiments. The validation test of the FB‐TGA was carried out on calcium hydroxide decomposition, and the results were compared with those obtained from the conventional TGA. Diffusion control was suppressed by the application of the FB‐TGA, which was confirmed by the x‐ray diffraction analysis on the treated samples. © 2014 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 61: 84–89, 2015  相似文献
