The spectral efficiency of a multicarrier direct‐sequence code‐division multiple‐access (MC/DS‐CDMA) cellular system, operating in a mobile radio environment with Rayleigh fading, is investigated and evaluated in terms of channel capacity (in the Shannon sense) per user, estimated in an average sense. The analysis is based on the combination of path‐diversity reception, achieved by a conventional coherent maximal‐ratio combining (MRC) RAKE receiver and the physical frequency diversity potential provided by orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). As shown, a closed‐form expression for the achieved spectral efficiency of the considered system's operation is derived following a recently presented general method. In this paper, we propose a new Generalized Distribution‐Based Handover (DBHO) to deal with the inefficient utilization of spectral resources due to the non‐uniform cell loads. The DBHO scheme is different from the existing adaptive schemes since it uses a new criterion to initiate handover when moving from/to a congested cell. Two risk factors are used to dynamically change handover boundaries according to the distribution of traffic loads. This controls the handover initiation process such that a user in a congested cell that is moving to a free cell is allowed to initiate a handover to a new cell earlier, as long as the signal received from the target cell is higher than a certain threshold. While delaying the handover initiation process for a user moving in the opposite direction, as long as the signal received from the serving cell is not lower than a certain threshold. Our results show a substantial reduction in the handover and call dropouts rates. Our scheme is complementary to the existing adaptive schemes proposed in the literature. The proposed scheme also gives cellular system designers a new tool to optimize the overall network performance by initiating handovers based on the traffic intensities. Frequent handovers increase the load on switching networks, which consequently degrades the Quality of Service (QoS). Existing handover schemes usually use parameters such as the received signal strength for initiating a handover with some additional measurements to reduce unnecessary handovers and call dropouts. These schemes perform well when cell loads are somewhat evenly distributed, but fail to account for nonuniform traffic, as is often the case in microcells. Hence, it is desirable to design efficient handover schemes to avoid unnecessary handovers, reduce call dropouts and yet dynamically adapt to the variation of traffic among cells. In this paper, we present a new adaptive handover scheme that dynamically changes the handover boundaries to balance cell loads and to effectively reduce the average number of handovers. For studying performance characteristics of radio channels, the knowledge about the probability density function (pdf) of fading–shadowing effects is essential. K‐distribution corresponding to Rayleigh–gamma distribution (RGD) is widely used to approximate a more realistic Rayleigh–lognormal distribution (RLD) which does not have a closed form expression. A new composite Rayleigh‐inverse Gaussian distribution (RIGD), an alternative to K‐distribution, is analyzed with regards to its suitability and effectiveness in radio channels. Detailed investigations are made to study the performance characteristics of RIGD and K‐distribution (RGD) in terms of Kullback–Leibler (KL) measure of divergence. Based on these investigations, it is found that RIGD is better suited for capturing fading–shadowing aspects of radio channels instead of K‐distribution. IP autoconfiguration of the mobile node addresses is important in the practical usage of most mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). This paper proposes domain‐based autoconfiguration framework (DACF), a novel approach for the efficient address autoconfiguration of MANETs. To construct a hierarchy of addresses, this framework defines a loose domain structure where nodes in the same domain may roam to different locations after they are configured. This framework uses the passive Duplicate Address Detection(PDAD) but the proposed domain structure is able to reduce the initial conflict probability and accelerate the conflict resolution significantly. To evaluate the correctness and efficiency of the proposed framework, we also present an exemplified full‐functioned implementation of the proposed framework. Through the detailed analysis and simulation, we believe the proposed scheme provides a promising autoconfiguration framework for large‐scale MANETs. Multiple gateways are required in large satellite constellation networks (LSCNs) with inter‐satellite links (ISLs), and their placement may greatly affect the system performance. Gateway placement can be optimized to achieve better network performance under the non‐uniform ground demand distribution. This paper formulates a gateway placement optimization model for LSCN with ISLs, aiming at achieving an optimal overall performance including delay, traffic peak, and load balance. The constraints of potential gateway location, gateway‐satellite connectivity, and max hop‐count are considered. A genetic algorithm (GA)‐based method is proposed to solve the integer optimization problem with the help of quasi‐evenly distributed reference layout. A Starlink‐like constellation with ISLs is adopted in the simulation. The simulation results show that the optimized layout has better performance than the reference layout. Additionally, the locations with high user demand or at the middle of ocean are preferred by gateways. The network performance is jointly influenced by gateway placement, demand distribution, constellation configuration, node, and link capacities. The abnormally high ISL hop‐count is found in the south Indian Ocean, which is caused by constellation and ISL configuration.  相似文献

The optimization between the processing gain and the theoretically achievable average channel capacity per user (in the Shannon sense) of a constant total system's allocated bandwidth hybrid direct sequence/fast frequency hopping code‐division multiple‐access (DS/FFH‐CDMA) cellular system, when operating in a Rayleigh fading environment, is presented. Then, the spectral efficiency, expressed in (bits/s/Hz), is estimated in terms of the achievable average channel capacity per user, during the operation over a broadcast cellular time‐varying link, and leads to a simple theoretical novel‐closed‐form expression for the optimal processing gain value based on the maximization of the achieved spectral efficiency. The final expression derived can be useful for the practical design of a DS/FFH‐CDMA cellular system and for an initial quantitative analysis since it relates to the optimal processing gain applied and all system's parameters. On the basis of a mixture of the selection combining and switch‐and‐stay combining schemes, the enhanced switch combining (ESC) scheme is proposed for antenna diversity over multiple correlated Nakagami‐m fading channels, where a switch window with upper and lower switch thresholds are used. Compared with the existing select‐and‐stay combining or switch with post‐examining, the ESC scheme reduces simultaneous multiantenna observations and hence saves processing time and energy from multibranch observations, while achieving matched receiver performance. Thus, ESC also has better performance than switch‐and‐examine combining (SEC). To assess the reduction of simultaneous observations, a dual‐observation rate is defined. Moreover, the ESC unifies some well‐known switch‐based combining schemes (for example selection combining, switch‐and‐stay combining, or SEC) in the sense that, by adjusting switch thresholds, these combining schemes become different special cases of ESC. The CDF, PDF, and moment generating function of the combined signal‐to‐noise ratio for ESC are derived for general fading channels. Then, the outage probability and the average BER of different binary modulations over correlated Nakagami‐m fading channels are evaluated. The theoretically achievable average channel capacity (in the Shannon sense) per user of a hybrid cellular direct sequence/fast frequency hopping code‐division multiple‐access (DS/FFH‐CDMA) system, operating in a Rayleigh fading environment, was examined. The analysis covers the downlink transmission and leads to the derivation of a novel expression between the average channel capacity available to each system's user under simultaneous optimal power and rate adaptation and the system's parameters, providing an optimistic upper bound, useful for practical modulation and coding schemes. The final derived closed‐form expression can be useful for the design of the DS/FFH‐CDMA system because it provides a theoretical tool for the initial quantitative analysis. Finally, avoiding the application of complex theoretical algorithm or lengthy simulation, we theoretically derived numerical results to illustrate the presented analysis. In this paper, a high data rate bidirectional relay network is proposed by combining the merits of spatial modulation (SM) and physical layer network coding. All nodes in the network are equipped with multiple antennas. Spatial modulation technique is used to reduce hardware complexity and interchannel interference by activating only one antenna at any time during transmission. In the proposed bidirectional relay network, transmit antennas are selected at the source nodes and relay node on the basis of the order statistics of channel power. It increases received signal power and provides a significant improvement in the outage performance. Also, the data rate of the proposed network is improved by physical layer network coding at the relay node. A closed form analytical expression for the outage probability of the network over Nakagami‐m fading channel is derived and validated by Monte Carlo simulations. In addition, asymptotic analysis is investigated at high signal‐to‐noise ratio region.The outage performance of the proposed network is compared with SM and physical layer network coding bidirectional relay network without transmit antenna selection and point‐to‐point SM. With approximate SNR≈1 dB difference between the two networks, the same data rate is achieved.  相似文献

Multi‐hop cellular network (MCN) is a wireless communication architecture that combines the benefits of conventional single‐hop cellular networks and multi‐hop ad hoc relaying networks. The route selection in MCN depends on the availability of intermediate nodes and their neighborhood connectivity. Cognitive radio (CR) is an emerging communication paradigm that exploits the available radio frequencies opportunistically for the effective utilization of the radio frequency spectrum. The incorporation of CR and mobile ad hoc network routing protocols in MCN could potentially improve the spectrum utilization and the routing performance of MCN. This paper firstly presents the proposed model for the multi‐interface CR mobile node with transceiver synchronization and then investigates its opportunistic spectrum utilization and routing performance in MCN. In this paper, the authors derive symbol error probability (SEP) expressions for coherent M‐ary frequency shift keying (MFSK) modulation schemes in multipath fading channels. The multipath or small‐scale fading process is assumed to be slow and frequency non‐selective. In addition, the channel is also subjected to the usual degradation caused by the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). Different small‐scale fading statistics such as Rayleigh, Rician (Nakagami‐n), Hoyt (Nakagami‐q), and Nakagami‐m have been considered to portray diverse wireless environments. Further, to mitigate fading effects through space diversity, the receiver front‐end is assumed to be equipped with multiple antennas. Independent and identically distributed (IID) as well as uncorrelated signal replicas received through all these antennas are combined with a linear combiner before successive demodulation. As the detection is coherent in nature and thus involves phase estimation, optimum phase‐coherent combining algorithms, such as predetection maximal ratio combining (MRC), may be used without any added complexity to the receiver. In the current text, utilizing the alternate expressions for integer powers (1≤n≤4) of Gaussian Q function, SEP values of coherent MFSK are obtained through moment generating function (MGF) approach for all the fading models (with or without MRC diversity) described above. The derived end expressions are composed of finite range integrals, which can be numerically computed with ease, dispenses with the need of individual expressions for different M, and gives exact values up to M=5. When the constellation size becomes bigger (M≥6), the same SEP expressions provide a quite realistic approximation, much tighter than the bounds found in previous literatures. Error probabilities are graphically displayed for each fading model with different values of constellation size M, diversity order L, and for corresponding fading parameters (K, q, or m). To validate the proposed approximation method extensive Monte‐Carlo simulations were also performed, which show a close match with the analytical results deduced in the paper. Both these theoretical and simulation results offer valuable insight to assess the efficacy of relatively less studied coherent MFSK in the context of the optimum modulation choice in wireless communication. Future mobile services are expected to include various non‐voice oriented services. One important category of non‐voice oriented mobile services is non‐real‐time services. When a mobile user establishes a connection to access non‐real‐time service, the mobile user usually cares about whether the total time to complete its data transfer is within its time tolerance. In addition, different mobile users may have different bandwidth requirements and different tolerances in the total completion time. It is essential for wireless systems to provide various mobile users with different total completion times. In this paper, two quality‐of‐service (QoS) metrics, called stretch ratio and eligibility percentage, are employed at a connection level to present the degree of the length of the total completion time. We devise a measurement based call admission control scheme that provides multiple QoSs for various mobile users which have different requirements of stretch ratios, eligibility percentages, and bandwidths. Extensive simulation results show that the measurement based call admission control scheme not only provides various satisfactory QoSs for mobile users but also produces high throughput. This paper presents the analysis of CDMA cellular networks with channel sub‐rating. From users' point of view, our considered scheme gives higher priority to handoff calls over new calls by sub‐rating the existing connections when handoff calls find no idle channels upon their arrivals. Therefore, it is considered that the disadvantage of the soft handoff which needs more channels than the hard handoff is made up for. Handoff calls can also wait in a queue while they are in handoff areas if all channels are sub‐rated in the cell of interest. We mathematically model this scheme by applying queueing theory. Then, we analyse its performance to derive the blocking probabilities of the new and handoff calls, the probability that handoff calls leave the handoff area without getting new channels, the degradation ratio of the voice quality by sub‐rating, mean and coefficient of variation of the waiting time of handoff calls. In numerical results, the analytical results are compared with the simulation ones to validate our analytical approach. Cross‐layer design is a generic designation for a set of efficient adaptive transmission schemes, across multiple layers of the protocol stack, that are aimed at enhancing the spectral efficiency and increasing the transmission reliability of wireless communication systems. In this paper, one such cross‐layer design scheme that combines physical layer adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) with link layer truncated automatic repeat request (T‐ARQ) is proposed for multiple‐input multiple‐output (MIMO) systems employing orthogonal space‐‐time block coding (OSTBC). The performance of the proposed cross‐layer design is evaluated in terms of achievable average spectral efficiency (ASE), average packet loss rate (PLR) and outage probability, for which analytical expressions are derived, considering transmission over two types of MIMO fading channels, namely, spatially correlated Nakagami‐m fading channels and keyhole Nakagami‐m fading channels. Furthermore, the effects of the maximum number of ARQ retransmissions, numbers of transmit and receive antennas, Nakagami fading parameter and spatial correlation parameters, are studied and discussed based on numerical results and comparisons. Device‐to‐device (D2D) communication in a cellular spectrum increases the spectral and energy efficiency of local communication sessions, while also taking advantage of accessing licensed spectrum and higher transmit power levels than when using unlicensed bands. To realize the potential benefits of D2D communications, appropriate mode selection algorithms that select between the cellular and D2D communication modes must be designed. On the other hand, physical‐layer network coding (NWC) at a cellular base station—which can be used without D2D capability—can also improve the spectral efficiency of a cellular network that carries local traffic. In this paper, we ask whether cellular networks should support D2D communications, physical‐layer NWC, or both. To this end, we study the performance of mode selection algorithms that can be used in cellular networks that use physical‐layer NWC and support D2D communications. We find that the joint application of D2D communication and NWC scheme yields additional gains compared with a network that implements only one of these schemes, provided that the network implements proper mode selection and resource allocation algorithms. We propose 2 mode selection schemes that aim to achieve high signal‐to‐interference‐plus‐noise ratio and spectral efficiency, respectively, and take into account the NWC and D2D capabilities of the network.  相似文献

Three schemes of multibranch switch‐and‐examine combining (MSEC) with switch statistics different from the signal‐to‐noise ratio used in the traditional MSEC are analyzed. For each diversity branch, with its fading factor a and low‐passed received signal r, the switch statistics for the three MSEC schemes considered in the paper are | r | , | ar | , and a linear combination of a and | r | , respectively. To illustrate the performances of the MSEC schemes, the average BER of each MSEC scheme with BPSK signaling is evaluated for independent and identically distributed Rayleigh fading channels. For performance optimization, the optimal switch thresholds of the MSEC schemes are obtained. Numerical results based on the analysis and simulations are presented for performance illustrations. Providing quality‐of‐service (QoS) assurances in a mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is difficult due to node mobility, contention for channel access, a lack of centralised coordination, and the unreliable nature of the wireless channel. QoS‐aware routing (QAR) and admission control (AC) protocols comprise two of the most important components of a system attempting to provide QoS guarantees in the face of the above‐mentioned difficulties. This paper presents a comparative study, utilising a realistic shadow fading channel, of the performance of several state‐of‐the‐art amalgamated QAR‐AC protocols, which are designed for providing throughput guarantees to applications. The advantages and drawbacks of their particular features are highlighted. For an environment where link quality varies rapidly, the results of the study highlight the ineffectiveness of previously‐proposed methods of relying merely on the success of route discovery to perform AC, of relying on the exceeding of the MAC layer retransmission count for link failure detection, of existing congestion detection schemes and of careful re‐admission of data sessions rather than fast re‐routing after shadowing‐induced link failures. Based on the lessons learnt, design guidelines for future QAR and AC protocols operating in a mobile shadow‐fading‐afflicted environment are presented. This paper presents a new and exact expression for the bit error probability (BEP) of the square M‐ary quadrature amplitude modulation (M‐QAM) scheme, with the channel under double gated additive white Gaussian noise (G2AWGN) and ημ fading in a communication system using the spatial diversity technique. The expression for the BEP is written in terms of the Appell function. The BEP curves are presented under different values of the number of branches of the maximum ratio combining (MRC) receiver, order of the constellation M, and parameters that characterize mathematically the channel, corroborated by simulations performed with Monte Carlo method.  相似文献

In this paper a scheme of intra‐cell spatial resource reuse is proposed for a peer‐to‐peer (P2P) enabled TDD‐CDMA system to increase the system capacity via only software update. On account of the new interference scenario in our scheme, a more accurate model of signal to interference and noise ratio (SINR) is deduced and analyzed instead of using the conventional equation. As demonstrated by our system‐level simulations, the capacity is significantly improved by reusing the same radio resource among different P2P transmitters within a single cellular cell in the spatial domain. Furthermore, we employ critical values of SINR target observed from simulation results to indicate whether the P2P‐enabled system is resource‐restricted or interference‐restricted for a certain application scenario. By means of a hexagon‐padding plan, the relation between co‐channel reuse distance and single‐hop distance is also pointed out to help to apply our scheme to a real implementation. Bulk heterojunction (BHJ) processing technology has had an irreplaceable role in the development of organic solar cells (OSCs) in the past decades due to the significant advantages in achieving high‐power conversion efficiency (PCE). However, the difficulty in exploring and regulating morphology makes it inadequate for upscaling large‐area OSCs. In this work, printable high‐performance ternary devices are fabricated by a pseudo‐planar heterojunction (PPHJ) strategy. The fullerene derivative indene‐C60 bisadduct (ICBA) is incorporated into PM6/IT‐4F system to expand the vertical phase separation and facilitate an obvious PPHJ structure. After the addition of ICBA, the IT‐4F enriches on the surface of active layer, while PM6 is accumulated underneath. Furthermore, it increases the crystallinity of PM6, which facilitates exciton dissociation and charge transfer. Accordingly, 1.05 cm2 devices are fabricated by blade‐coating with an enhanced PCE of 14.25% as compared to the BHJ devices (13.73%). The ternary PPHJ strategy provides an effective way to optimize the vertical phase separation of organic semiconductor during scalable printing methods.  相似文献
