The diffusion reaction of tin into pre-flow melted bright tinplate has been studied. It has been shown that the power index for the diffusion of tin to form the intermetallic layer increases from approximately 2 below 232°C to 5.6 at 350°C. Furthermore, the rate constant for alloy formation increases from 1 at 100°C to 331 at 225°C and to 2 × 106 at 250°C. At 350°C it reaches 6.3 × 106. The activation energy for the formation of FeSn2 is reducedfrom 19 kJ mol?1 K?1 for temperatures below the melting point of tin, to 7 kJ mol?1 K?1 for those above the melting point. Evidence for the presence of iron—tin alloys other than FeSn2 is also presented. These alloys are only formed when the processing temperature exceeds 350°C and all the free tin has been depleted. These results provide a better understanding of the diffusion reaction between tin and iron when hot processing is used on tinplate and can be used to give better control to some processes. This improved control will minimise the adverse affects of heat treatment of tinplate that can result in both greying of the surface and maximise the amount of tin that can be reclaimed from scrap used tinplate.  相似文献

The structure, strength, and ductility of alloys of the Fe – Cr – N system bearing from 15 to 24% chromium and from 0.4 to 1.3% nitrogen are studied after rolling at 20, 450, 800, 900, 1000, 1100, and 1200°C. It is shown that the highest hardening due to cold plastic deformation is provided in alloys with metastable -solid solution that undergoes transformation into strain martensite ( ). In hot plastic deformation the alloys are hardened due to the formation of a fragmented structure. The data of electron microscopic studies are used to determine the role of the phase composition in the hardening of the alloys.  相似文献

The isothermal oxidation behaviour of a series of quinary Ni–Co–Al–Ti–Cr alloys were studied at 800 °C. Alloys with higher Cr concentrations exhibited lower mass gain after 100-h exposure, as did the alloys richest in Ni and Al for a given Cr concentration. Extensive internal oxidation and nitridation was also observed in all alloys, except those containing the highest concentrations of Ni and Al. All alloys studied generated continuous chromium oxide layers, beneath which alumina particles were observed. Compositional analysis of the subscales identified shallower Cr concentration gradients in alloys containing equiatomic levels of Ni and Co, suggesting increased availability of Cr in the alloy. Thermodynamic calculations confirmed that these alloys contained higher concentrations of Cr in their γ matrices as a result of a combination of both the elemental partitioning behaviour and the increased mole fraction of γ′ precipitates forming in the alloy.  相似文献
