Fiber Raman amplifiers (FRAs) with multiple pumps are proposed to realize dynamic gain equalization for a spectral chips signal
with a non-flattened broadband light source (BLS) in a spectrum-sliced wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) network. In
FRAs with multiple pumps, the gain profile can be adjusted via appropriate specification of the relative position of the pump
wavelengths and the power of the pump waves. This paper combines a pump-power control algorithm and a genetic algorithm (GA)
to establish the optimal pump spectrum for any specified gain spectrum in the WDM system. The method flattens the power spectra
of WDM chips by identifying the optimal pump wavelengths and pump power of backward-pumped FRAs. It avoids the conventional
requirement for time-consuming trial-and-error adjustments or intensive numerical simulations. Simulation results show that
the scheme is simple, effective, and applicable for various BLSs in a spectrum-sliced WDM transmitter. 相似文献

In this letter, a simple algorithm for the gain spectrum adjustment of backward-pumped distributed fiber Raman amplifier (B-DFRA) is demonstrated both theoretically and experimentally. It is shown that the change in pump power and corresponding change in gain spectrum are approximately related through a linear matrix, while the elements of the matrix can be easily measured. Feasibility of this algorithm is approved by experiment: a gain ripple of less than 1.2 dB across the C + L band is achieved during net gain adjustment from -15 dB to -9 dB of a 160-channel B-DFRA by varying the launched power of four pumping LDs. 相似文献

The gain saturation of optical amplifiers due to changes in wavelength-division-multiplexed channel loading is characterized using a technique that determines the saturation effect on each channel. This channel gain saturation (CGS) measurement is applied to a broad-band backward-pumped Raman amplifier and used to study how the CGS spectral tilt is controlled by the relative contributions of the pump-to-pump and channel-to-channel interactions. We present a fast numerical method for the design and transmission analysis of backward-pumped fiber Raman amplifiers (FRAs). Our method groups pump-and-signal channels to exclude unimportant spectral bands between the groups during the simulation. Neglecting the weak pump channel modulation by the counterpropagating signal channels, we find the signal and pump evolutions from the FRA input toward the FRA output. The initial conditions at the FRA input may be obtained from the conventional power analysis. Our method may provide amplifier-induced transmission penalties that become increasingly important in high bit rate long-haul wavelength-division multiplexing transmissions 相似文献
