Problems in the "evidence" of "evidence-based medicine"

The potential influence of racially or ethnically diverse cultural perspectives on patient compliance with post-transplant treatments is discussed. Domains of competency regarding culturally sensitive clinical practice are outlined to assist providers in better understanding the perspectives that may influence the views and behavior of culturally diverse patients.

利用语料库研究方法,基于英国国家语料库(BNC),比较分析意义相近的动词assure和ensure的词频、搭配、类联接及语义韵.研究发现,assure较ensure更常用于口语和小说中,ensure多用于学术文章和新闻中.assure用来表示向某人保证某事将要发生,既可以用来确证某事,也可以表示使某人确信,assure的宾语通常是人名或人称代词,抽象名词较少,而且做宾语的抽象名词多为积极语韵;而ensure后面的宾语通常是抽象名词,较少使用人名或人称代词,且做宾语的抽象名词也是多为积极语韵.通过观察索引行还得出ensure的5种典型搭配.

<诗经>是我国文学史的光辉起点,也是我国现实主义文学的开端.作品以抒情诗为主流,开拓性地运用了赋、比、兴等表现手法,具有很高的艺术成就,对后世文学创作产生了重大而深远的影响.<关雎>是<诗经>中具有代表性的作品,是汉文化文学宝库中的珍品,因此,翻译工作者都不遗余力地将它译介国外.许渊冲先生、韦利先生是<诗经>翻译的佼佼者,分析研究他们的译诗策略,对于总结汉语古典文学西译的经验,构建现代翻译理论,自然有着不可忽略的益处.     

The afterimages of "hallucinated" and "imagined" colors.

Some individuals 'hallucinate' a color and 'see' its appropriate afterimage after a minimal 'hypnotic induction procedure'; other individuals do essentially the same thing without a 'hypnotic induction procedure.' In fact, some Ss do better on this task without the 'hypnotic procedure.' However, these experiments also indicate that 'trance' behavior may be an essential component in 'projecting' or 'hallucinating' colors." Acoustic analysis of cries from "normal" and "irritable" infants

Infant irritability or colic is characterized by recurrent episodes of persistent, unexplained crying. The lack of a precise definition of the type and amount of cry that distinguishes an infant as colicky has hampered research and intervention efforts. The primary aims of this study are to describe the acoustic characteristics of cries of irritable infants and compare these to those of normal infants. Tape recorded cries of 11 irritable and 11 non-irritable infants were compared. The average age for infants of both groups was 8 weeks. The cries of irritable infants were higher in jitter, shimmer, proportion of noise, and tenseness than were the cries of control infants. Findings suggest that colic or infant irritability is more than just excessive crying. Acoustic characteristics of the cries of irritable infants reveal an increase in stress-arousal that supports the thesis of a state regulation disorder. Characterizing the nature and origin of the cries of irritable infants is essential to an understanding that will eventually guide appropriate diagnosis and management of these infants.
