通识教育起源于自由教育,是基于人与社会本质的认识而提出的大学教育思想和培养策略,其代表性的理论有进步主义、永恒主义和要素主义.争三个派别.进步主义的代表人物是克拉克·克尔,他提出了著名的"多元化巨型大学"思想;永恒主义的代表人物是赫钦斯,主张推行永恒学科的学习;要素主义的代表人物是科南特,认为通识教育的目的是培养"完整的人. 三种教育理论各有利弊,各具特色,但都为通识教育的实践提供了理论依据.  相似文献

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, has recently completed a major restructuring of its computer engineering curriculum. The main goal of this reform is to integrate a broad set of embedded systems concepts into the course sequence thereby creating an embedded systems focus throughout the curriculum. Breadth of embedded systems concepts is addressed by using the embedded systems component of the 2004 IEEE/ACM computer engineering model curriculum as the basis for the new curriculum content. Depth is attained by overlapping coverage of most topics using multiple courses and integrating forward and reverse references to these concepts among the courses. This paper presents the rationale behind the curriculum reform, the revised curriculum, lessons learned, and the results of a comprehensive assessment of its effectiveness.  相似文献

Electromechanics, not in the confined traditional sense, but rather as the broader subject of interactions between mechanical media and electromagnetic fields, represents an opportunity for teaching both mechanics and electromagnetic field theory to electrical engineering undergraduates. Over the past six years, text material, films, and demonstrations have been developed at M.I.T. for an undergraduate course which, in a fundamental way, serves the diversity of interests held by electrical engineers: interests that range from rotating machines to plasmas and from control systems to image processing techniques. A sumnmary is given of the philosophy, content, and organization of the course with emphasis given to "threads of continuity" and motivational material. The observations are made with the benefit of discussions from a workshop sponsored by the National Science Foundation, and held in the sunmmer of 1968. This workshop brought together interested faculty for discussions related to a course of the type described.  相似文献

Educational institutions pay careful attention to the design of program curricula, which represent a framework to meet institutional goals and missions. Of course, the success of any institution depends highly on the quality of its program curriculum. The development of such a curriculum and, more importantly, the evaluation of its quality are complex and time-consuming processes. This traditional approach requires many cumbersome manual iterations, making it a long and error-prone process. To overcome these problems, this paper proposes a new curriculum support engine as an alternative approach. The proposed curriculum support engine is a Web-based application that helps in designing any program curriculum in real time. The engine incorporates several important features, allowing the verification of the proposed curriculum coherence and the generation of statistics necessary for academic and accreditation purposes. Useful viewing and editing tools are also provided. The proposed curriculum support engine is flexible and allows additional criteria that the curriculum designer can specify to be incorporated. In particular, the engine covers the Accreditation of Canadian Engineering Programs (CEAB), the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), and the Commission of Academic Accreditation of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of UAE (CAA-UAE).   相似文献

A one-semester integrated microelectronics projects laboratory for junior-level electrical engineering students is described, which serves to educate the student in the physics and technology of microelectronics. The first third of the course is devoted to prescribed introductory experiments. In the final two-thirds of the semester, the student pursues a project of his own design.
