The ACHEMA 2022 was only half as large as usual, but the main trends in process technology were well represented. The research activities on the utilization of hydrogen and the use of CO₂, CO and polymer waste as raw materials were highlights. Furthermore, new developments in the design of heat exchangers, mixers and reactors, the connection of digitalization and process engineering, new solutions for energy efficiency as well as sophisticated measuring techniques and demonstrations of safety engineering made the ACHEMA an exciting fair.

After a longer break due to the pandemic, ACHEMA was held again in Frankfurt in 2022, where, among others, several companies from the adsorption sector presented themselves and their products. The broad exhibitor field ranged from adsorbents to measuring devices and plant engineering. The report covers trends and innovations in adsorption technology, which were presented at the booths and discussed in talks with the exhibitors.

One of the most widely used thermal processes for separating and purifying process streams in the chemical industry is distillation. The used rectification columns have internals like trays and random or structured packings to increase separation efficiency. Due to the high use of the columns, there is an ongoing interest in increasing efficiency, saving energy and expanding the area of application. Companies at ACHEMA 2022 were asked about these topics.
