Due to its potential, using virtual machines in grid computing is attracting increasing attention. Most of the researches focus on how to create or destroy a virtual execution environments for different kinds of applications, while the policy of managing the virtual environments is not widely discussed. This paper proposes the design, implementation, and evaluation of an adaptive and dependable virtual execution environment for grid computing, ADVE, which focuses on the policy of managing virtual machines in grid environments. To build a dependable virtual execution environments for grid applications, ADVE provides an set of adaptive policies managing virtual machine, such as when to create and destroy a new virtual execution environment, when to migrate applications from one virtual execution environment to a new virtual execution environment. We conduct experiments over a cluster to evaluate the performance of ADVE, and the experimental results show that ADVE can improve the throughput and the reliability of grid resources with the adaptive management of virtual machines.  相似文献

Resources over Internet have such intrinsic characteristics as growth, autonomy and diversity, which have brought many challenges to the efficient sharing and comprehensive utilization of these resources. This paper presents a novel approach for the construction of the Internet-based Virtual Computing Environment (iVCE), whose sig- nificant mechanisms are on-demand aggregation and autonomic collaboration. The iVCE is built on the open infrastructure of the Internet and provides harmonious, transparent and integrated services for end-users and applications. The concept of iVCE is presented and its architectural framework is described by introducing three core concepts, i.e., autonomic element, virtual commonwealth and virtual executor. 本发动机性能虚拟仪器测试系统采用的是美国国家仪器公司(National Instruments,NI)的LabVIEW和LabVIEW RT虚拟仪器软件平台,以及配套的NI PCI数据采集板卡、NI SCXI信号调理设备和NI compact FieldPoint(cFP)分布式I/O实时系统硬件.实现了多路性能的并行测试;并可根据用户设置,自动完成负载、扭矩、转速、功率、压力以及温度的实时监控;最后通过TCP/IP协议实现了测试数据的远程共享,和用户对测试系统的远程操控.该系统具有开发周期短、使用效率高及成本低廉的特点,同时具有很强的系统可扩展性和可重用性,具有很强的应用价值.  相似文献

Many important decisions in the design process are made during fairly early on, after designers have presented initial concepts. In many domains, these concepts are already realized as 3D digital models. Then, in a meeting, the stakeholders for the project get together and evaluate these potential solutions. Frequently, the participants in this meeting want to interactively modify the proposed 3D designs to explore the design space better. Today’s systems and tools do not support this, as computer systems typically support only a single user and computer-aided design tools require significant training. This paper presents the design of a new system to facilitate a collaborative 3D design process. First, we discuss a set of guidelines which have been introduced by others and that are relevant to collaborative 3D design systems. Then, we introduce the new system, which consists of two main parts. The first part is an easy-to-use conceptual 3D design tool that can be used productively even by naive users. The tool provides novel interaction techniques that support important properties of conceptual design. The user interface is non-obtrusive, easy-to-learn, and supports rapid creation and modification of 3D models. The second part is a novel infrastructure for collaborative work, which offers an interactive table and several large interactive displays in a semi-immersive setup. It is designed to support multiple users working together. This infrastructure also includes novel pointing devices that work both as a stylus and a remote pointing device. The combination of the (modified) design tool with the collaborative infrastructure forms a new platform for collaborative virtual 3D design. Then, we present an evaluation of the system against the guidelines for collaborative 3D design. Finally, we present results of a preliminary user study, which asked naive users to collaborate in a 3D design task on the new system.  相似文献

This paper describes an investigation into the distribution issues surrounding the design and implementation of virtual market places (ViMPs). The paper starts by describing the requirements customers and service providers have from a ViMP. It is then shown how the requirements deemed most important can be addressed by exploiting the inherent distribution of certain aspects, and by distributing other aspects of such market places. In particular, the paper concentrates on the structuring of the information space describing the services and products, and its distribution between the providers and the market place mediator. Primarily, this supports the implementation of phased dialogues between the customer and the providers, while at the same time addressing the providers’ desire to protect business sensitive processes and information. Distributing the dialogue in time allows customers and providers to interact more flexibly and to gradually build understanding and trust between them, before divulging any business or personally sensitive information to each other. The distributed approach supports a scalable market place and also points towards a way of addressing providers’ legacy problems. It is also shown how the apparent contradiction of a distributed market place and the need to monitor and control it for regulation purposes can be addressed, without compromising the ability of the system to scale. Finally, the design and implementation of a virtual insurance market place using Java on a CORBA compliant platform are presented.  相似文献

Large organizations always have a strong demand for storage from data‐intensive applications and instruments. In this paper, we present the design, implementation, and evaluation of a new virtual storage system, Storage@desk, which can aggregate a large number of distributed machines within an organization to provide storage services with quality of service guarantees. Because storage virtualization is the prominent goal, Storage@desk provides clients with the abstraction of a hard drive by utilizing the Internet SCSI protocol. As such, data access to new storage services is transparent so that clients do not need to modify any existing applications nor change their current practices. Storage@desk replicates data and employs version‐based journaling for high availability. It utilizes a market‐based model for resource management and a feedback controller for automated performance control. Debugging multi‐language software systems requires examining and executing these systems at multiple levels of abstraction. Embedded systems, for example, often comprise a mix of assembly language device drivers and C language control code. Embedded systems increasingly utilize Java to support dynamic loading and run‐time reconfiguration. The RTEEM (Research version of the Tcl Environment for Extensible Modeling) debugger employs three design patterns in solving the problems of multi‐language embedded system debugging. The Reflective virtual machine (VM) pattern models a language‐neutral virtual machine abstraction, with language‐specific interfaces extending this abstraction. Reflection allows a debugger to inspect and control a target VM. The Chain of Responsibility is a classic pattern used to arrange language‐specific debugger command interpreters in a delegation chain. All interpreters share a single command syntax, but each interpreter adapts commands to its language abstraction by interacting with its language‐specific VM view. Composite is another classic pattern, used to combine objects into tree structures. RTEEM employs it to aggregate VM debugger chains into a hierarchy that supports uniform command syntax for debugging threads, processes, multiprocessor systems, and compositions of these entities. This paper illustrates how combining two classic design patterns with the VM abstraction as a pattern results in an architecture that is powerful and flexible in adapting to the debugging needs of heterogeneous, distributed embedded systems. Virtual fixtures (VFs) can be defined as guiding constraints designed to enhance or assist human performance in a computer-controlled system by providing cues of haptic or audiovisual nature. In this paper we present a new characterization of VFs based on mechanics, and provide a set practical guidelines for the designers of such fixtures from a software architecture point of view. We propose an event-driven approach that facilitates the integration of these guiding constraints in a scene graphed-based environment. In this context some novel implementation of VFs are presented, where users may interact with a single or an assembled set of fixtures. We present two types of force attributes for VF and present their implications in a trajectory-following problem.  相似文献

Virtual machining systems are applying computers and different types of software in manufacturing and production in order to simulate and model errors of real environment in virtual reality systems. Many errors of CNC machine tools have an effect on the accuracy and repeatability of part manufacturing. Some of these errors can be reduced by controlling the machining process and environmental parameters. However geometrical errors which have a big portion of total error need more attention. In this paper a virtual machining system which simulates the dimensional and geometrical errors of real three-axis milling machining operations is described. The system can read the machining codes of parts and enforce 21 errors associated with linear and rotational motion axes in order to generate new codes to represent the actual machining operation. In order to validate the system free form profiles and surfaces of virtual and real machined parts are compared in order to present the reliability and accuracy of the software.  相似文献
