Man-made fibres for carrets. Tendency in development

Conclusions The main direction of world development in the manufacture of man-made carpet yarns is modification of existing yarns with the purpose of improving the consumer properties of carpets — soil-repelling or soil-masking, antimicrobial, antistatic, or increasing yarn bulk, improving dyeability, resistance to ignition, etc.Reinforced carpet yarns and thread based on various combination of man-made fibres and complex yarns are finding steadily greater use in the manufacture of carpets.A new type of floor covering has appeared — carpet sheets, which are produced mainly by the tufting method at present.Translated from Kimicheskie Volokna, No. 5, pp. 18–23, September–October, 1987.     

State and Prospects of Research in the Field of High-Molecular Combinations in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea

Scientific research on high-molecular combinations and industry based on these materials sprang up as early as the 1950s. In 1945 phenol resins were the only products of the polymeric industry and only dozens of tons of resins were produced annually. There were no research organizations in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) at that time. What is more, the economy of the country had been completely ruined during 3 years of the Korean War.

The research in this field began to develop after the war. In the 1950s and 1960s research began that aimed at the development of a synthetic fibers industry based on local raw materials, such as anthracite and limestone. In this report I dwell briefly upon the research on fibers, plastics, rubber, and varnish-paint materials in DPRK.
