The study of how people acquire and diffuse information among heterogeneous populations has a rich history in the social sciences. However, few approaches have been developed to better understand how information diffusion patterns and processes affect resource management in complex socio-ecological systems. This is a timely issue for crop protection diffusion programs, which have a larger place than ever on the international policy agenda due to the growing number of challenges related to controlling agricultural pests. To assess the impact of heterogeneous farmer behaviors (receptivity toward IPM practices) and types of information diffusion (either active or passive) on the success of integrated pest management (IPM) programs, we developed a socio-ecological model coupling a pest model (population growth and dispersion) with a farmer behavioral model (pest control and diffusion of pest management practices). The main objective of the model was to provide insights to explore effective IPM information diffusion strategies at the farmer community level. Our simulations revealed 1) that passive IPM information diffusion among agents seemed to be more effective to control pests over the community of agents than active diffusion and 2) that increasing levels of agent heterogeneity would significantly slow down pest control dynamics at the community level, but to a lower extent in the case of passive IPM information diffusion. Our findings therefore suggest that IPM diffusion programs should focus their efforts in developing methods to create purposefully the conditions for social learning as a deliberate pest control mechanism, while taking into account potential limitations related to the commonly reported farmer heterogeneity. Our study further stresses the need to develop a comprehensive and empirically based framework for linking the social and ecological disciplines across space and time in agricultural system management. While we specifically focus on pest infestation levels and IPM information diffusion strategies in this study, our approach to understand information diffusion within heterogeneous human populations in interaction with environmental features would be applicable to a much wider range of both social and resource management issues.  相似文献

为提高幼儿园幼儿安全管理的信息化和自动化水平,减少幼儿安全事故的发生,以射频识别与无线通信方法为基础,设计并实现了一种与ZigBee网络融合的无线射频识别系统,应用于幼儿园幼儿安全管理.阐述了系统的组成结构,介绍了读写器中主控制模块、射频收发模块、显示模块及电子标签的硬件设计,给出了系统软件设计架构及主程序设计流程图.通过实际的部署和验证,该系统ZigBee网络稳定可靠,数据收发准确,能适应较为复杂的楼宇环境,不需要进行方向配置,可实现长距离识别,能大大提高幼儿园幼儿安全管理的效率.  相似文献

Abstract. This paper sets out to demonstrate that critical systems thinking can provide the necessary theoretical background for the development of an integrated approach to critical thinking in information systems research. Critical systems thinking is itself a relatively new development in management science. By about 1990, however, it had established itself on the basis of five commitments; to critical awareness, to social awareness, to complementarism at the level of methodology, to complementarism at the level of theory, and to human well-being and emancipation. The paper discusses these critical systems commitments and shows that each of them has, at one time or another, received attention in the literature on information systems. Addressing them as a whole, as in critical systems thinking, can yield an integrated programme for critical thinking in information systems research.  相似文献

Integrated basin scale analysis that accurately accounts for the impacts of proposed policies on the environment and society's economic welfare can comprehensively and consistently inform water resource policies. Cost benefit analysis (CBA) has considerable potential to support water decisions by consistently appraising proposals in terms of society's total environmental and economic impact in monetary terms. However, the difficulty of correctly applying CBA to environmental programs with complex physical and economic interactions weakens policymakers’ confidence in comprehensive economic assessments at the basin scale. This paper describes and illustrates a method by which costs and benefits can be systematically integrated into an integrated physical, institutional and economic analysis for a river basin. A simple hydroeconomic model is presented. Its size is small enough to build, understand, and interpret with paper and pencil. But its structure is sufficiently flexible to permit expansion for comprehensive policy design that rests on a foundation of a basin's hydrology, institutional constraints, and economic relations. The use of cost benefit analysis to support environmental policy will always be limited by ethical questions on the distribution of benefits and costs among sectors, income groups, locations, and generations. Nevertheless, hydroeconomic models offer a potential resource to efficiently and consistently integrate hydrologic, economic, and institutional impacts of policy proposals to support basin scale cost-benefit environmental assessments.  相似文献

The flood disaster management system (FDMS) is a platform developed to provide ongoing disaster reduction capabilities that cover the entire process of flood management. The ontology-based approach links environmental models with disaster-related data to support FDMS-constructed workflows with suitable models and recommend appropriate datasets as model input automatically. This automated activity for model selection and data binding reduces the time-consuming and unreliable operations involved in traditional management techniques, which rely on manual retrieval through simple metadata indices—typically when flood management personnel are overwhelmed with large quantities of observed data. The OpenMI-based modular design used in the system unifies interfaces and data exchange to provide flexible and extensible architecture. Subsequent 3D visualization improves the interpretability of disaster data and the effectiveness of decision-making processes. This paper presents an overview of the design and capabilities of FDMS that provides one-stop management for flood disasters.  相似文献
