Five yearling wether sheep were maintained on total intravenous, fat-free feeding for periods in excess of 4 weeks. Analysis of plasma total lipid, neutral lipid, and phospholipid fatty acid patterns showed a decrease in linoleic acid during the first week, after which levels tended to stabilize. Rate of decrease in linoleic acid content of plasma phospholipids of two sheep was different. Changes in nonessential fatty acids were variable. 5,8,11- and 8,11,14-Eicosatrienoic acids were not detected in any of the sheep.  相似文献

Fatty acids derived from phospholipids and lipopolysaccharides were investigated from 33 taxonomically different organisms (bacteria, fungi and plant cells) known a priori to inhabit soil (except E. coli). The extended extraction procedure used, liberated non-ester-linked fatty acids in addition to ester-linked fatty acids, hydroxy substituted fatty acids in three different fractions. The amount of non-ester-linked fatty acids was as high as 70% of the total phospholipid fatty acids in some fungi and varied considerably in different organisms. The cis vaccenic acid constituted about 50% of phospholipid fatty acids in selected bacteria belonging to the alpha subclass of Proteobacteria. These fatty acids were not found in other selected organisms. A large amounts of branched chain fatty acids were found in various organisms. If the branching are localised on positions other than iso and anteiso they were strong indicators for gram positive bacteria. The cyclopropyl fatty acids are mainly localized in gram negative bacteria. The beta hydroxy fatty acid of the outer membrane are widespread among bacterial taxa and fungi. These fatty acids are not recommended to use as "signature" fatty acids for gram negative bacteria.  相似文献

A single oral dose of two 3-thia (3-thiadicarboxylic and tetradecylthioacetic acids) and of 4-thia (tetradecylthiopropionic acid) fatty acids were administered to normolipidemic rats and their effects on lipid metabolism over a 24 hr period were studied. All three thia fatty acids could be detected in plasma 2 hr after treatment. Tetradecylthioacetic and tetradecylthiopropionic acids were detected in different hepatic lipid fractions but were incorporated mainly into hepatic phospholipids. Two hours after administration hepatic mitochondrial beta-oxidation and the total liver level of long-chain fatty acyl-CoA increased with a concomitant decrease in saturated fatty acids, total hepatic malonyl-CoA and plasma triacylglycerol levels in the 3-thia fatty acid groups. Tetradecylthiopropionic acid administration caused a decrease in mitochondrial beta-oxidation and an increase in plasma triacylglycerol at 24 hr. The activities of key lipogenic enzymes were unaffected in all treatment groups. Plasma cholesterol level was reduced only at 8 hr in 3-thiadicarboxylic acid treated rats although 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA (HMG-CoA) reductase was suppressed already at 2, 4, 8 and 12 hr. The results show that thia fatty acids are rapidly absorbed and are systemically available after oral administration but the 3-thia fatty acids reached systemic circulation more slowly and less completely than the 4-thia fatty acid. Very low levels of the thia fatty acids are detected in plasma 24 hr after a single administration. They are incorporated into all hepatic lipid classes, especially phospholipids. Rapid incorporation of a non beta-oxidizable thia fatty acid into hepatic lipids may cause a diversion of other fatty acids from glycerolipid biosynthesis to mitochondrial beta-oxidation. Stimulation of mitochondrial beta-oxidation and suppression of HMG-CoA reductase are primary events, occurring within hours, after 3-thia fatty acid administration. The hypotriglyceridemic effect of the 3-thia fatty acids observed at 2-4 hr is independent of the activities of key lipogenic and triacylglycerol synthesising enzymes.  相似文献

Four cannulated cows in a 4 x 4 Latin square design were used to study the effects of supplemental dietary fatty acids from roasted soybeans combined with tallow or partially hydrogenated fats, varying in esterification and fatty acid chain length, on nutrient digestion and lactation performance. Diets were formulated to contain (DM basis) 48% forage in addition to 1.5% fatty acids from roasted soybeans and 2.5% fatty acids from tallow, partially hydrogenated tallow triglycerides, partially hydrogenated tallow fatty acids, or a blend of 30% tallow and 70% hydrogenated fatty acids that were rich in palmitic acid. Apparent total tract digestibilities of OM, N, and NDF were similar among diets. Supplemental fat as fatty acids, compared with triglycerides, increased digestibilities of total fatty acids and C18:1 in the small intestine, perhaps indicating that lipolysis was rate-limiting. Fatty acids also increased milk fat percentage and efficiency of 4% FCM production. Although intake of C16 fatty acids was higher for cows fed the fat rich in palmitic acid than for those fed the tallow fatty acids, total duodenal flows of C16 fatty acids were similar, and digestibility in the small intestine was unaffected. Dry matter intake, 4% FCM production, and milk protein percentage were similar among treatments.  相似文献

Colostrum from French-Alpine and Anglo-Nubian goats and Holstein cows was collected and analyzed for both total and FFA of 12 and fewer carbon atoms. Short-chain VFA were separated from long-chain fatty acids using simultaneous distillation extraction. The n-butyl esters of fatty acids were quantified by gas chromatography, and their identity was confirmed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The concentration of decanoic acid was 33 and 83% less in Holstein colostrum than in colostrum from Alpine and Nubian goats, respectively. Colostrum from Nubian goats had twice as much decanoic acid as colostrum from Alpine goats. The FFA in colostrum that differed between species but not between goat breeds were octanoic and decanoic acids. These respective fatty acids were approximately two and three times greater in colostrum from goats than in colostrum from Holsteins. The quantity of decanoic acid was different between goat breeds and between animal species. The ratio of total fatty acid concentration to free-state concentration for hexanoic acid appeared to be useful for differentiating between Nubian and Alpine goat colostrum as well as between Nubian and Holstein colostrums.  相似文献

To obtain further information about the immunomodulatory effects of specific dietary fatty acids, weanling male rats were fed for 6 weeks on high-fat (178 g/kg) diets which differed according to the principal fatty acids present. The nine diets used differed in their contents of palmitic, oleic, linoleic and alpha-linolenic acids; as a result the total polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) content and the PUFA:saturated fatty acid ratio varied (from 17.8 to 58.5 g/100 g fatty acids and from 0.28 to 5.56 respectively). The n-6 PUFA:n-3 PUFA ratio was kept constant in all diets at approximately 7.0. The fatty acid composition of the serum and of spleen lymphocytes were significantly influenced by that of the diet fed. The ex vivo proliferation of spleen lymphocytes decreased as the level of oleic acid in the diet increased. Spleen natural killer cell activity decreased as the oleic acid content of the diet increased and increased as the palmitic acid content of the diet increased. The extent of the effects of these fatty acids on lymphocyte functions was modified by the nature of the background fatty acid composition of the diet.  相似文献

1. Two experiments were designed to study the influence of free fatty acid content and degree of saturation of free fatty acids and neutral fat on digestibility of added fats and fatty acids. Sunflower oil and tallow were used as neutral fats, and palmitic, stearic, oleic and linoleic acids as free fatty acids. Fat inclusion was 80 g/kg and mixtures of each fat and each free fatty acid were prepared in the proportions 100:0, 70:30 and 40:60. 2. Experimental diets were evaluated for fat and fatty acid digestibilities with broiler chickens at 21 d of age. The metabolisable energy of fat was calculated from the product of digestibility and gross energy. Increasing concentrations of saturated free fatty acids decreased the ME of added fat, whereas unsaturated free fatty acids did not significantly affect the ME value of added fat. 3. Digestibilities of individual fatty acids were analysed by linear regression with rate of inclusion of free fatty acid in the fat blend: palmitic and stearic acids gave a negative slope, whereas oleic and linoleic acids gave a slope not statistically different from zero. Because slopes for saturated fatty acids did not differ between the sunflower oil and tallow treatments, synergism between unsaturated and saturated fatty acids was not detected.  相似文献

The phospholipid fatty acid composition of the Caribbean sponge Calyx podatypa was studied, and 85 different fatty acids were identified, in particular the 11-methylpentadecanoic acid and 10-tricosenoic acid, which have no literature precedence. Structural characterization was accomplished by means of gas chromatography-mass spectrometry on their corresponding methyl esters and dimethyl disulfide derivatives. The structure of 11-methylpentadecanoic acid was further confirmed by total synthesis (17% overall yield) starting from commercially available 10-hydroxydecanoic acid.  相似文献

The effect of egg yolk fatty acid composition on the uptake and utilization of essential n-6 and n-3 fatty acids by the developing chick embryo was studied. Eggs were enriched with n-9, n-3, or n-6 fatty acids by incorporating sunflower seed high in oleic acid (C18:1 n-9), flax seed rich in linolenic acid (C18:3 n-3), or sunflower seed high in linoleic acid (C18:2 n-6) into the laying hen diets. Fertile eggs were collected and incubated. The fatty acid composition of eggs and newly hatched chicks were compared. Feeding diets containing flax seed increased (P < .05) total n-3 fatty to 528.4 mg compared with 53.9 and 39.3 mg for eggs from hens fed diets with high oleic acid or regular sunflower seed, respectively. Levels of C18:2 n-6 and monounsaturated fatty acids were higher in eggs from hens fed diets containing regular or high oleic acid sunflower seeds. Dietary fat did not influence the total lipid content of the egg yolk or total lipids of chick tissues. The fatty acid composition of the hatched progeny was significantly altered by egg yolk lipids. However, the percentage incorporation of essential n-6 and n-3 fatty acids into the progeny increased when yolk sources of these fatty acids were low. The developing chick embryo appeared to preferentially take up docosahexaenoic acid and arachidonic acid from the yolk lipids. Evidence also suggests that conversion of C18:2 n-6 and C18:2 n-3 to longer chain n-3 or n-6 fatty acids occurs during the incubation period.  相似文献

Dietary supplementation of very long-chain n-3 fatty acids to rats reduces postprandial plasma concentrations of triacylglycerol, unesterified fatty acids and glycerol after long-term feeding by unknown mechanisms [Rustan et al., J. Lipid Res. 34 (1993) 1299-1309]. In the present study we examine the role of adipose tissues in metabolism of fatty acids. Postprandial plasma concentrations of triacylglycerol, unesterified fatty acids and glycerol were reduced by 75%, 50% and 30%, respectively, during 49 days of feeding high-fat diets containing n-3 fatty acids (6.5% n-3 fatty acid concentrate, 13% lard) as compared to lard (19.5% lard). These differences were observed already after two days of feeding. Plasma concentration of unesterified very long-chain n-3 fatty acids increased to 50 microM in n-3 fatty acid-supplemented rats, whereas these fatty acids were undetectable in lard-fed animals. The n-3 fatty acid-enriched diet limited cell volumes of perirenal and epididymal adipocytes by 40% and 30%, respectively, after 49 days, as compared to lard feeding. This reduction in cell volume was not due to reduced synthesis of glycerolipids in epididymal adipocytes. Acute incubation of perirenal and epididymal adipocytes with oleic acid or eicosapentaenoic acid, caused similar increase in synthesis of triacylglycerol. Dietary supplementation with n-3 fatty acids decreased basal and total lipolysis (isoprenalin-stimulated) in perirenal adipocytes. Basal lipolysis in epididymal adipocytes was reduced by n-3 fatty acids only after 49 days. n-3 fatty acids increased total lipolysis in mesenteric and subcutaneous fat cells compared to adipocytes derived from lard-fed animals, whereas basal lipolysis was unchanged. These results suggest that the reduced postprandial plasma concentration of unesterified fatty acids after n-3 fatty acid-supplementation is not caused by accumulation of fatty acids in adipose tissue. The reduced trophic growth of adipocytes might be due to decreased supply of unesterified fatty acids for triacylglycerol storage. (c) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.  相似文献

Studies were performed to determine whether feeding diets with differing fatty acid content and composition had an influence on systolic blood pressure in the rat. Weanling male rats were fed standard laboratory chow (2.9% fat in total), or synthetic diets (10% fat in total) containing fish oil, butter, coconut oil or corn oil, for 5 weeks. Coconut oil and butter diets were rich in saturated fatty acids, whilst fish oil and corn oil were rich in the n-3 and n-6 unsaturated fatty acids respectively. Systolic blood pressure was measured using an indirect tail-cuff method at the end of the feeding period, and compared to a group of weanling rats. Feeding the different diets did not alter the growth of the rats, so all animals were of similar weights at the time of blood pressure determination. Control (chow fed) animals, at nine weeks of age, had higher systolic blood pressures than the weanling, baseline control group. Fish oil fed rats had similar pressures to the chow fed rats. Corn oil fed rats had significantly lower systolic pressures than the controls. The rats led the diets rich in saturated fatty acids (butter and coconut oil) had significantly higher blood pressures than all other groups. Systolic blood pressure was found to be significantly related to the dietary intakes of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids. The dietary intake of linoleic acid was significantly higher in corn oil fed rats than in other groups. Systolic blood pressure was inversely related to linoleic acid intake. Feeding a diet rich in saturated fatty acids significantly increases blood pressure in the rat. A high intake of n-6 fatty acids, and in particular linoleic acid, appears to have a hypotensive effect. Prenatal exposure of the rats to a maternal low protein diet, abolished the hypertensive effects of the coconut oil diet and the hypotensive effect of the corn oil diet upon young adult females. The intrauterine environment may, therefore, be an important determinant of the effects of these fatty acids on blood pressure in later life.  相似文献

An experiment with a 5 x 5 Latin square design was conducted to determine the effects of the addition of soybean oil to high fiber diets on ruminal fermentation and ruminal lipid concentrations. Diets were 50% bermudagrass hay and 50% concentrate. Soybean oil was added to diets at 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8% of the dietary dry matter (DM). Ruminal samples were collected every 2 h on the last day of each period and analyzed for volatile fatty acids and lipids. The addition of soybean oil decreased DM and organic matter intake but increased fatty acid intake. Soybean oil had no effect on total tract digestibility of DM, organic matter, N, or neutral detergent fiber but decreased digestibility of fatty acids. The addition of soybean oil decreased total volatile fatty acid concentrations and the acetate to propionate ratio. Ruminal concentrations of unsaturated free fatty acids increased nonlinearly as soybean oil in the diets increased but remained < 0.67 mg/g of DM or 3% of the total fatty acids. Ruminal concentrations of total fatty acids and total saturated fatty acids increased nonlinearly as soybean oil in the diets increased. Total unsaturated fatty acid concentrations increased linearly as soybean oil increased. Neutral lipid concentrations in the rumen did not respond to increased soybean oil. These data indicate that large amounts of soybean oil can be fed in high fiber diets without greatly increasing the concentration of ruminal unsaturated fatty acids or depressing nutrient digestibility.  相似文献

The aim of the study was to assess the fatty acid composition of human fertilization-failed oocytes. A total of 150 unfertilized oocytes from 43 women undergoing in-vitro fertilization (IVF) were analysed using capillary gas chromatography. The majority of fatty acids were saturated (79.22%), of which stearic (38.65%) and palmitic (32.66%) acids were the most abundant. Of the monounsaturated fatty acids (14.27%) oleic acid was the most abundant (9.77%). Polyunsaturated fatty acids comprised 6.50% of fatty acids, the n-6:n-3 ratio being 7.73. The ratio of eicosapentaenoic acid:docosahexaenoic acid was approximately 5. It is concluded that the most common fatty acids in human unfertilized oocytes are either saturated or monounsaturated fatty acids, whose main function is to provide an energy source. A number of differences in fatty acid composition were observed, in comparison with other biological samples. In particular, stearic and eicosapentaenoic acids were more prominent, and oleic and linoleic acids were less prominent; this may reflect some specific peculiarity of oocyte metabolism.  相似文献

The time course of incorporation of [14C]arachidonic acid and [3H]docosahexaenoic acid into various lipid fractions in placental choriocarcinoma (BeWo) cells was investigated. BeWo cells were found to rapidly incorporate exogenous [14C]arachidonic acid and [3H] docosahexaenoic acid into the total cellular lipid pool. The extent of docosahexaenoic acid esterification was more rapid than for arachidonic acid, although this difference abated with time to leave only a small percentage of the fatty acids in their unesterified form. Furthermore, uptake was found to be saturable. In the cellular lipids these fatty acids were mainly esterified into the phospholipid (PL) and the triacyglycerol (TAG) fractions. Smaller amounts were also detected in the diacylglycerol and cholesterol ester fractions. Almost 60% of the total amount of [3H]Docosahexaenoic acid taken up by the cells was esterified into TAG whereas 37% was in PL fractions. For arachidonic acid the reverse was true, 60% of the total uptake was incorporated into PL fractions whereas less than 35% was in TAG. Marked differences were also found in the distribution of the fatty acids into individual phospholipid classes. The higher incorporation of docosahexaenoic acid and arachidonic acid was found in PC and PE, respectively. The greater cellular uptake of docosahexaenoic acid and its preferential incorporation in TAG suggests that both uptake and transport modes of this fatty acid by the placenta to fetus is different from that of arachidonic acid.  相似文献

Using gas chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography (HILC), we examined free fatty acid and lecithin molecular species in gallbladder biles from patients with cholesterol gallstones. Effect of free fatty acids on cholesterol nucleation in model bile was studied by a sensitive cholesterol crystal growth assay. Compared to bile of controls, biles from patients with gallstones had higher total free fatty acid level, more palmitic acid, more stearic acid, more linoleic acid and arachidonic acid. The lecithin pattern was similar in all. After free fatty acids were added to model bile, palmitic acid, oleic, acid, linoleic acid and arachidonic acid had significant effect of pro-nucleating, free fatty acids on non-protein pro-nucleating factor. These data suggest that variations in quantitation and composition of free fatty acids are importanct in the pathogenesis of cholesterol gallstone formation.  相似文献

Fish oil is rich in the long chain n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA); typically these fatty acids constitute 20 to 25 g/100 g total fatty acids in fish oil. Feeding rodents diets rich in fish oil has been shown to decrease lymphocyte proliferation and natural killer cell activity. It is not known what level of EPA + DHA is required in the diet to exert these effects. This question was addressed in the current study. Weanling rats were fed on high fat (178 g/kg) diets which contained 4.4 g alpha-linolenic acid (control) or 4.4 g EPA + DHA (4.4 EPA + DHA) or 6.6 g EPA + DHA (6.6 EPA + DHA)/100 g total fatty acids. The n-6 to n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid ratio was maintained at approximately 7. The fatty acid compositions of the serum and of spleen leukocytes were markedly influenced by that of the diet. Spleen lymphocyte proliferation in response to concanavalin A, spleen natural killer cell activity and PGE2 production by spleen leukocytes were reduced by feeding the EPA + DHA diets compared with feeding the control diet; the 4.4 and 6.6 EPA + DHA diets caused very similar reductions. The 4.4 EPA + DHA diet reduced popliteal lymph node weight following a localised graft versus host response; this response was not investigated in rats fed the 6.6 EPA + DHA diet. The reductions in lymphocyte functions and in the in vivo graft versus host response caused by the EPA + DHA diets were similar to those previously reported following the feeding of diets rich in fish oil. Thus, this study shows that diets containing relatively low levels of EPA + DHA (20 to 25% of the level found in fish oil) exert immunomodulatory effects. Furthermore, this study suggests that the maximal effect of EPA + DHA is exerted when these fatty acids constitute a level of less than or equal to 4.4 g/100 g total dietary fatty acids.  相似文献

In rats receiving a fat-free food throughout the period of pregnancy, the individual fatty acids of total lipids from placenta, total fetus, maternal and fetal serum were determined quantitatively on day 21/22 of pregnancy. Also, the incorporation of 14C-acetate in vitro into placental fatty acids, divided by the number of double bonds, was measured and the rate of synthesis calculated therefrom. The fat-free diet caused a drastic fall of linoleic acid concentration in maternal serum and all fetal compartments. On the contrary, the amount of arachidonic acid remained almost unchanged in fetal serum and total fetus, and even slightly increased in placenta. In the maternal serum, too, the arachidonic acid concentration remained constant under fat-free diet. The observed concentration changes of single fatty acids in the maternal serum are reflected in all fetal compartments and led to a rise in total fatty acids in all sera and tissues studied. The height of rise decreased in the order: maternal serum less than placenta less than fetal serum less than total fetus. The rate of synthesis for arachidonic acid in placenta was on day 21/22 of pregnancy 0.3 (controls) and 0.5 (fat-free diet) micrometer/100 g placenta and hour, being able to cover the placenta's own need to less than one-third. The results suggest that the protection of the feto-placental unit against arachidonic acid deficiency under fat-free diet of the mother is provided mainly by a constant supply of maternal unit with arachidonic acid under normal conditions has to be ensured essentially by the mother.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Aim of this work is to evaluate the different fatty acid composition of cervical mucus obtained during ovulation and at the term of pregnancy. METHODS: The fatty acid composition in cervical mucus was determined in 14 non pregnant women during expected ovulation (cervical score > 10) and in 12 at term pregnant women. Following extraction, (acidification and transesterification), the identification and quantification of fatty acids was performed by gas-chromatographic analysis, with the aid of a specific software. RESULTS: In both groups of samples, palmitic acid, stearic acid and oleic acid were the prevalent acids comprising more than half of the total amounts. Compared to non pregnant samples, in pregnant cervical mucus, elevated levels of oleic acid were pointed out, while mean levels of miristic acid and stearic acid were lower. In the samples of cervical mucus drew at the term of pregnancy, arachidonic acid levels mean values were higher when the first period of labour was started. CONCLUSIONS: The pregnancy-induced biochemical changes in fatty acid pattern could likely be correlate to the variations of the physiochemical properties and to the physical appearance that cervical mucus undergoes during pregnancy. The elevated levels of arachidonic acid, during the first period of labour, may be correlated with prostaglandin production by intrauterine tissues (amniotic fluid, amnion, chorion, decidua, myometrium) and probably by cervical mucus.  相似文献

We undertook a systematic evaluation of the lipid, protein, calorie, and fatty acid composition in 35 species of fish, shellfish and molluscs commonly consumed throughout the four seasons of the year in Andalusia, Spain. Using a portion of muscle tissue the following were measured in each study unit: total lipids (extraction using Folch's method and gravimetry), protein concentration (Kjehldal's method), total calories (direct calorimetry), and composition of fatty acids (gas chromatography). The lipid, protein, and different fatty acid concentrations found are presented in table form. There was a high degree of inter-species variability in the concentration of lipids and the various fatty acids. There was also a high degree of intra-species seasonal variability in some cases. The relative proportion of fatty acids was not independent of the total concentration of lipids, independently of the season studied. This systematic study of a large group of species shows that the cataloguing of fish as 'white' or 'blue' depends especially on the time of year they are captured. For example, in spring the mackerel (Scomber scombrus), a fish considered traditionally to be 'blue' (fatty), has the same lipid concentration as the dover sole (Solea vulgaris), commonly considered to be 'white' (little fat), and the sea pike (Merluccius merluccius) has a higher lipid concentration in autumn than the jack mackerel (Trachurus trachurus). Even greater differences existed when the fish were classified according to their richness in n-3 fatty acids. These differences in the total lipid concentration and the composition of fatty acids, as well as the inter-relations between them, may, under certain circumstances, be important for the calculation of dietary calories and nutritional values, and may explain the differences found between the various tables of food composition, as well as the divergent results in epidemiological studies on the association between fish in diets and various diseases, such as diabetes or ischaemic cardiopathy.  相似文献

The present study was conducted to determine the effects of dietary fatty acids on hepatic LDL receptor (LDLr) protein abundance and mRNA levels. Sixty pigs were randomized into 10 groups and fed corn-soybean meal diets containing three cholesterol levels (0.25%, 0.5%, and 1.0%, w/w) with no added fat, or fats rich (30% of calories) in palmitic acid or linoleic acid. A control group was fed the base diet with no added fat. After 30 days, plasma LDL-cholesterol (LDL-C) levels increased as the dietary cholesterol increased (P < 0.05); however, there was no significant effect of either fatty acid. Dietary fatty acids, however, had distinctly different effects on hepatic LDLr protein (analyzed by ELISA) and mRNA (analyzed by Northern blot) abundance. When pigs consumed diets containing 0.25% cholesterol, linoleic acid increased hepatic LDLr protein 40% whereas palmitic acid reduced it 40% (P < 0.05). These changes in LDLr protein abundance were accompanied by parallel changes in hepatic LDLr mRNA; linoleic acid increased LDLr mRNA 2-fold (P < 0.01), whereas palmitic acid decreased it 60% (P < 0.01). The differential effects of fatty acids on LDLr expression were only observed at 0.25% cholesterol, suggesting that higher intakes of cholesterol have a dominant and repressive effect on regulation of LDLr expression. Cholesterol intake increased hepatic total cholesterol levels (P < 0.01) while dietary fatty acids had no effect on hepatic sterols. In summary, our results indicate that dietary linoleic acid and palmitic acid have markedly different effects on hepatic LDLr protein abundance that are mediated by differential effects on LDLr mRNA and protein levels. Further studies are needed to fully elucidate the molecular mechanisms by which fatty acids regulate LDLr mRNA and protein levels.  相似文献
