This article investigated the crystallization kinetics, melting behavior, and morphologies of poly(butylene succinate)(PBS) and its segmented copolyester poly(butylene succinate)‐block‐poly(propylene glycol)(PBSP) by means of differential scanning calorimetry, polarized light microscopy, and wide angle X‐ray diffraction. Avrami equation was used to describe the isothermal crystallization kinetics. For nonisothermal crystallization studies, the Avrami equation modified by Jeziorny, and the model combining Avrami equation and Ozawa equation were employed. The results showed that the introduction of poly(propylene glycol) soft segment led to suppression of crystallization of PBS hard segment. The melting behavior of the isothermally and nonisothermally crystallized samples was also studied. Results showed that the isothermally crystallized samples exhibited two melting endotherms, whereas only one melting endotherm was shown after nonisothermal crystallization. The spherulitic morphology of PBSP and wide angle X‐ray diffraction showed that the polyether segments were excluded from the crystals and resided in between crystalline PBS lamellae and mixed with amorphous PBS. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly (butylene succinate) (PBS) nanocomposites with titanium dioxide nanotubes (TNTs) or hydroxyapatite nanorods (HAP) were prepared, and the effect of the nano‐inorganics on the nonisothermal crystallization and melting properties of PBS were studied in detail by differential scanning calorimeter. The nonisothermal crystallization kinetics of PBS and its nanocomposites were analyzed by the Avrami, Ozawa, and Mo methods. It is found that the presence of TNTs increases the crystallization temperature and rate of PBS composites, but decreases the crystallization activation energy and crystallinity. By comparison, the crystallization rate of the PBS composite is decreased with the addition of HAP. The melting, recrystallization, and remelting mechanism results in the formation of two melting endothermic peaks during the melting process of neat PBS and its nanocomposites. The model proposed by Mo could successfully describe the nonisothermal crystallization process of PBS and its nanocomposites. At a given crystallinity, the F(t) values decrease in the order of PBS/HAP, PBS, and PBS/TNTs. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2014 , 131, 40335.  相似文献

To improve the crystallization ability of poly(lactic acid) (PLA), a novel nucleating agent with a benzoyl hydrazine compound was used in this study. The crystallization behaviors of PLA/talc and PLA/bibenzoylhydrazinepropane (BBP) with or without poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) were investigated with differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and polarized optical microscopy. The DSC curves showed that the crystallization temperature and crystallinity of PLA/BBP (PBBP) was higher than that of PLA/talc. With the addition of PEG, a synergistic effect was found. According to the results of nonisothermal crystallization kinetics, the values of F(T) of PBBP0.5PEG5 were usually smaller than those of PTa3PEG5, so the nucleation efficiency of BBP was much better than that of talc. From a polarized optical microscopy photo, it was easy to determine that the nucleation density of BBP was higher than that of PTa3PEG5, and the spherulitic diameter increased linearly with the crystallization time no matter the impingements. The spherulitic growth rate of PBBP0.5PEG5 was faster than that of PTa3PEG5, and the induction time of PBBP0.5PEG5 was the shortest among all of the samples. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. The crystallization kinetics, morphology and crystal structure of biodegradable double crystalline poly(butylene succinate)-poly(ethylene glycol) (PBS-PEG) multiblock copolymers (PBSEGs) were studied with different composition and segment chain length by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), polarized optical microscopy (POM) and wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD). The isothermal crystallization kinetics results show that the overall crystallization rate and the equilibrium melting point of PBS increase with the increasing PBS fraction and the segment chain length (LPBS); on the other hand, the higher content or longer PEG segment within PBSEGs possesses larger crystallization rate of PEG chains. The nucleation mechanisms are demonstrated to be instantaneous 3D and 2D aggregates for PBS and PEG segments within PBSEGs, respectively (except for PBSEG2K?50, 2D and 3D aggregates for PBS and PEG segments, respectively). POM observations indicate that the PBS within PBSEG multiblock copolymers presents banded spherulites in the investigated temperature range. After quenched to lower temperature, PBS templates the morphology for PEG crystallization, and PEG crystallization just changes the magnitude of birefringence (lighting the spherulites) but not influences the superstructure. Finally, WAXD measurements determine that the crystal structure is not changed with the compositions.  相似文献

The detail information of both α and β form poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) crystal effect on the crystallization behavior of poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) were systematically studied. The results show that β form PVDF can obviously improve the melt‐crystallization temperature of PBS during the nonisothermal crystallization process. Both crystallization time span and spherulitic size of PBS decrease with the increasing amount of β form PVDF, which enhances the primary nucleation of PBS. But α form PVDF shows no nucleating effect on PBS crystallization, exhibiting as almost unchanged Tc values for α form PVDF‐blended PBS samples. The intrinsic mechanism for the nucleating effect of β form PVDF on PBS was proposed to be the epitaxial crystallization. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. The isothermal and nonisothermal crystallization kinetics of a semicrystalline copolyterephthalamide based on poly(decamethylene terephthalamide) (PA‐10T) was studied by differential scanning calorimetry. Several kinetic analyses were used to describe the crystallization process. The commonly used Avrami equation and the one modified by Jeziorny were used, respectively, to describe the primary stage of isothermal and nonisothermal crystallization. The Avrami exponent n was evaluated to be in the range of 2.36–2.67 for isothermal crystallization, and of 3.05–5.34 for nonisothermal crystallization. The Ozawa analysis failed to describe the nonisothermal crystallization behavior, whereas the Mo–Liu equation, a combination equation of Avrami and Ozawa formulas, successfully described the nonisothermal crystallization kinetics. In addition, the value of crystallization rate coefficient under nonisothermal crystallization conditions was calculated. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 94: 819–826, 2004  相似文献

In this article, isothermal crystallization, melting behaviors, and spherulitic morphologies of high‐impact multiblock copolymers, comprising of PBS as hard segment and poly(1,2‐propylene succinate) (PPSu) as soft segment with hexamethylene diisocyanate as a chain extender, were investigated. The results from differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) suggest that the two segments of multiblock copolymers are miscible in amorphous region. The crystallization kinetics were analyzed by the Avrami equation. The effect of PBS segment length as well as the introduction of PPSu segment on the crystallization kinetics and melting bebaviors of block copolymers was studied. Both crystallization rate (G) and spherulitic growth rate (g) are markedly increased with the increase of PBS segment length or decreased with the incorporation of PPSu segment. All the multiblock copolymers show the multiple melting behaviors, whose position and area depend on PBS segment length and the presence of PPSu segment. The melting peaks shift to higher temperature region with increasing PBS segment length. Spherulitic morphologies of the multiblock copolymers after being isothermally crystallized were examined by polarized optical microscopy. It is the first time to investigate the effect of one segment length on crystallization bebavior of block copolymers based on a fixed weight ratio systematically. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Silica nanoparticles and poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) nanocomposites were prepared by a melt‐blending process. The influence of silica nanoparticles on the nonisothermal crystallization behavior, crystal structure, and mechanical properties of the PBS/silica nanocomposites was investigated. The crystallization peak temperature of the PBS/silica nanocomposites was higher than that of neat PBS at various cooling rates. The half‐time of crystallization decreased with increasing silica loading; this indicated the nucleating role of silica nanoparticles. The nonisothermal crystallization data were analyzed by the Ozawa, Avrami, and Mo methods. The validity of kinetics models on the nonisothermal crystallization process of the PBS/silica nanocomposites is discussed. The approach developed by Mo successfully described the nonisothermal crystallization process of the PBS and its nanocomposites. A study of the nucleation activity revealed that the silica nanoparticles had a good nucleation effect on PBS. The crystallization activation energy calculated by Kissinger's method increased with increasing silica content. The modulus and yield strength were enhanced with the addition of silica nanoparticles into the PBS matrix. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2010  相似文献

A series of biodegradable aliphatic‐aromatic copolyester, poly(butylene terephthalate‐co‐butylene adipate‐co‐ethylene terephthalate‐co‐ethylene adipate) (PBATE), were synthesized from terephthalic acid (PTA), adipic acid (AA), 1,4‐butanediol (BG) and ethylene glycol (EG) by direct esterification and polycondensation. The nonisothermal crystallization behavior of PBATE copolyesters was studied by the means of differential scanning calorimeter, and the nonisothermal crystallization kinetics were analyzed via the Avrami equation modified by Jeziorny, Ozawa analysis and Z.S. Mo method, respectively. The results show that the crystallization peak temperature of PBATE copolyesters shifted to lower temperature at higher cooling rate. The modified Avrami equation could describe the primary stage of nonisothermal crystallization of PBATE copolyesters. The value of the crystallization half‐time (t1/2) and the crystallization parameter (Zc) indicates that the crystallization rate of PBATE copolyesters with more PTA content was higher than that with less PTA at a given cooling rate. Ozawa analysis was not suitable to study the nonisothermal crystallization process of PBATE copolyesters, but Z.S. Mo method was successful in treatingthis process. POLYM. ENG. The isothermal and nonisothermal crystallization behaviors of poly(ε-caprolactone) and poly(caprolactone-co-cyclohexene carbonate) were investigated utilizing differential scanning calorimeter and polarized optical microscope. The kinetic of isothermal crystallization could be well defined by Avrami equation, while Mo model was successful to describe the nonisothermal crystallization. Based on the obtained kinetic parameters, poly(cyclohexene carbonate) segments not only act as a nucleating agent accelerating nucleating rate but also restrict the transport of poly(ε-caprolactone) segments decelerating growth rate. The mechanical properties of polymers were investigated using DMA and nanoindentation. It shows that the insertion of hard poly(cyclohexene carbonate) segments improves Young’s modulus and heat resistance but reduces hardness of copolymers.  相似文献

To increase the glass transition temperature (Tg) of poly(aryl ether ketone), and to decrease the melting temperature (Tm) and temperature of processing, a series of novel poly(aryl ether ketone)s with different contents of 2,7‐naphthalene moieties (PANEK) was synthesized. We focused on the influence of the naphthalene contents to the copolymer's crystallization. The crystallization kinetics of the copolymers was studied isothermally and nonisothermally by differential scanning calorimetry. In the study of isothermal crystallization kinetics, the Avrami equation was used to analyze the primary process of the crystallization. The study results of the crystallization of PANEK at cooling/heating rates ranging from 5 to 60°C/min under nonisothermal conditions are also reported. Both the Avrami equation and the modified Avrami–Ozawa equation were used to describe the nonisothermal crystallization kinetics of PANEK. The results show that the increase in the crystallization temperature and the content of 2,7‐naphthalene moieties will make the crystallization rate decrease, while the nucleation mechanism and the crystal growth of PANEK are not influenced by the increasing of the content of 2,7‐naphthalene moieties. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(l ‐lactic acid) (PLLA) is a good biomedical polymer material with wide applications. The addition of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) as a plasticizer and the formation of stereocomplex crystals (SCs) have been proved to be effective methods for improving the crystallization of PLLA, which will promote its heat resistance. In this work, the crystallization behavior of PEG and PLLA/poly(d ‐lactic acid) (PDLA) in PLLA/PDLA/PEG and PEG‐b‐PLLA/PEG‐b‐PDLA blends has been investigated using differential scanning calorimetry, polarized optical microscopy and X‐ray diffraction. Both SCs and homocrystals (HCs) were observed in blends with asymmetric mass ratio of PLLA/PDLA, while exclusively SCs were observed in blends with approximately equal mass ratio of PLLA/PDLA. The crystallization of PEG was only observed for the symmetric blends of PLLA39k/PDLA35k/PEG2k, PLLA39k/PDLA35k/PEG5k, PLLA69k/PDLA96k/PEG5k and PEG‐b‐PLLA31k/PEG‐b‐PDLA27k, where the mass ratio of PLLA/PDLA was approximately 1/1. The results demonstrated that the formation of exclusively SCs would facilitate the crystallization of PEG, while the existence of both HCs and SCs could restrict the crystallization of PEG. The crystallization of PEG is related to the crystallinity of PLLA and PDLA, which will be promoted by the formation of SCs. © 2017 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

The nonisothermal crystallization kinetics of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) copolymers modified with poly(lactic acid) (PLA) were investigated with differential scanning calorimetry, and a crystal morphology of the samples was observed with scanning electron microscopy. Waste PET (P100) obtained from postconsumer water bottles was modified with a low‐molecular‐weight PLA. The PET/PLA weight ratio was 90/10 (P90) or 50/50 (P50) in the modified samples. The nonisothermal melt‐crystallization kinetics of the modified samples were compared with those of P100. The segmented block copolymer structure (PET‐b‐PLA‐b‐PET) of the modified samples formed by a transesterification reaction between the PLA and PET units in solution and the length of the aliphatic and aromatic blocks were found to have a great effect on the nucleation mechanism and overall crystallization rate. On the basis of the results of the crystallization kinetics determined by several models (Ozawa, Avrami, Jeziorny, and Liu–Mo) and morphological observations, the crystallization rate of the samples decreased in the order of P50 > P90 > P100, depending on the amount of PLA in the copolymer structure. However, the apparent crystallization activation energies of the samples decreased in the order of P90 > P100 > P50. It was concluded that the nucleation rate and mechanism were affected significantly by the incorporation of PLA into the copolymer structure and that these also had an effect on the overall crystallization energy barrier. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper, two different analytical methods were applied to investigate nonisothermal crystallization behavior of copolyesters prepared by melting transesterification processing from bulk polyesters involving poly (butylene terephthalate) (PBT) and ternary amorphous random copolyester poly(ethylene terephthalate‐co‐isophthalate‐co‐sebacate) (PETIS). The results show that the half‐time of crystallization of copolyesters depended on the reaction time and decreased with the content of ternary polyesters in the amorphous segment. The modified Avrami model describes the nonisothermal crystallization kinetics very well. The values of the Avrami exponent range from 2.2503 to 3.7632, and the crystallization kinetics constant ranges from 0.0690 to 0.9358, presenting a mechanism of three‐dimensional spherulitic growth with heterogeneous nucleation. Ozawa analysis, however, failed to describe the nonisothermal crystallization behavior of copolyesters, especially at higher cooling rate. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The melting, isothermal and nonisothermal crystallization behaviors of poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) have been studied by means of temperature modulated differential scanning calorimetry (TMDSC) and conventional DSC. Various experimental conditions including isothermal/annealing temperatures (80, 90, 100, 105, 110, 120, 130, and 140°C), cooling rates (2, 5, 10, 20, and 50°C/min) and heating rates (5, 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50°C/min) have been investigated. The lower endothermic peak (Tm1) representing the original crystals prior to DSC scan, while the higher one (Tm2) is attributed to the melting of the crystals formed by recrystallization. Thermomechanical analysis (TMA) was used to evaluate the original melting temperature (Tmelt) and glass transition temperature (Tg) as comparison to DSC analysis. The multiple melting phenomenon was ascribed to the melting‐recrystallization‐remelting mechanism of the crystallites with lower thermal stability showing at Tm1. Different models (Avrami, Jeziorny‐modified‐Avrami, Liu and Mo, and Ozawa model) were utilized to describe the crystallization kinetics. It was found that Liu and Mo's analysis and Jeziorny‐modified‐Avrami model were successful to explain the nonisothermal crystallization kinetic of PHB. The activation energies were estimated in both isothermal and nonisothermal crystallization process, which were 102 and 116 kJ/mol in respective condition. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. The nonisothermal crystallization kinetics of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) blends were studied. Four compositions of the blends [PET 25/PMMA 75, PET 50/PMMA 50, PET 75/PMMA 25, and PET 90/PMMA 10 (w/w)] were melt‐blended for 1 h in a batch reactor at 275°C. Crystallization peaks of virgin PET and the four blends were obtained at cooling rates of 1°C, 2.5°C, 5°C, 10°C, 20°C, and 30°C/min, using a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). A modified Avrami equation was used to analyze the nonisothermal data obtained. The Avrami parameters n, which denotes the nature of the crystal growth, and Zt, which represents the rate of crystallization, were evaluated for the four blends. The crystallization half‐life (t½) and maximum crystallization (tmax) times also were evaluated. The four blends and virgin polymers were characterized using a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA), a wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction unit (WAXD), and a scanning electron microscope (SEM). © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effects of corn starch (CS) filler and lysine diisocyanate (LDI) as a coupling agent on the crystallization behavior of a poly(butylene succinate) (PBS)/CS ecocomposite were investigated using differential scanning calorimetry. In isothermal crystallization, n values for pure PBS were from 2.33 to 2.82. On the other hand, both composites showed values of 3 < n < 4. In nonisothermal crystallization, the Avrami exponent varied from 2.12 to 2.55 for pure PBS, from 1.58 to 1.96 for the composite without LDI, and from 1.79 to 1.91 for the composite with LDI, depending on the cooling rate. There was not a large difference of the crystallization rate constant (k) as adjusted by the Jeziornay suggestion. The activation energy for nonisothermal crystallization was also calculated on the basis of three different equations (Augis–Bennett, Kissinger, and Takhor equations). However, the values of the activation energy were in contradiction with the results of the kinetics. The addition of the filler (CS) and coupling agent (LDI) affected the morphological structure of PBS spherulites. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 97: 1107–1114, 2005  相似文献

Poly(lactide), a bio‐based aliphatic polyester, is a subject to large research effort. One point of optimization is the acceleration of its crystallization kinetics to promote crystallinity under nonisothermal polymer processing conditions by means of compounding with nucleating agents and plasticizers. The nonisothermal crystallization kinetics of neat and formulated poly(L,D ‐lactide) (PDLLA) from the melt with talc and polyethylene glycol (PEG) or acetyl tributyl citrate (ATBC) were studied with the help of the Avrami–Jeziorny and Liu–Mo analysis. Talc showed to be a moderately efficient nucleating agent, as it causes only small increase of crystallization kinetics and shows no effect on the crystallization activation energy. A synergistic effect with plasticizers was observed, expanding the crystallization window significantly. PEG was found to be a more efficient plasticizer than ATBC but causes large decrease in the molecular weight average of PDLLA upon thermal treatment. The talc/ATBC system is efficient starting with an ATBC concentration of 9 wt%. The acceleration observed was a crystallization half‐time decrease of 30% compared to neat PLA and reaching maximum crystallization enthalpies even at cooling rate of 25°C min?1. The ATBC/talc system can be recommended as an efficient system for acceleration of nonisothermal crystallization kinetics of PDLLA. POLYM. ENG.
