This article describes the synthesis and characterization of highly conductive polypyrrole (PPy)/multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) composites prepared by in situ polymerization of pyrrole using 5‐sulfoisophthalic acid monolithium salt [lithio sulfoisophthalic acid (LiSiPA)] as dopant and ferric chloride as oxidant. Several samples were prepared by varying the amounts of MWCNTs ranging from 1 to 5 wt %. Scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope images clearly show a thick coating of PPy on surface of MWCNTs. The electrical conductivity of PPy increased with increasing amount of MWCNTs and maximum conductivity observed was 52 S/cm at a loading of 5 wt % of MWCNTs. Pure PPy prepared under similar conditions had a conductivity of 25 S/cm. Electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness (SE) also showed a similar trend and average EMI shielding of ?108 dB (3 mm) was observed for sample having 5 wt % MWCNT in the frequency range of 8.2–12.4 GHz (X‐band). The light weight and absorption dominated total SE of ?93 to ?108 dB of these composites indicate the usefulness of these materials for microwave shielding. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Composites with silica matrix and mixed filler of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and BaTiO3 powder were fabricated. Excellent uniform dispersion of MWCNTs can be obtained using a two-step mixing method. Both of the real and imaginary parts of complex permittivity increased with increasing MWCNT content and measured temperature. The electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding results showed that the absorption mechanism is the main contribution to the total EMI shielding effectiveness (SE). Compared with the EMI SE resulting from reflection, the absorption showed more dependence on the MWCNT content, measured temperature and frequency. The total EMI SE is greater than 20 dB at 25 °C and 50 dB at 600 °C in the whole frequency range of 12.4–18 GHz with a 1.5 mm composite thickness, which suggests that the MWCNT–BaTiO3/silica composites could be good candidates for the EMI shielding materials in the measured frequency and temperature region.  相似文献

The polypyrrole-coated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were prepared by in situ chemical oxidative polymerization of pyrrole on the surface of MWCNTs for the novel electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials. The oxyfluorination treatment on MWCNTs introduced the hydrophilic functional groups resulting in well distribution and higher interfacial affinity between polypyrrole (PPy) and MWCNTs. The PPy phases formed on MWCNTs were observed by SEM. The thickness of PPy on the surface of MWCNTs decreased as increasing the hydrophilic groups on MWCNTs by the oxyfluorination treatment. The PPy-coated MWCNT composites showed the remarkable increases in permittivity, permeability, and EMI shielding efficiency (SE). The EMI SE of PPy-coated MWCNTs increased up about 28.6 dB mainly based on the absorption mechanism.  相似文献

Multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)/portland cement(PC) composites have been fabricated to evaluate their electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness (SE). The results show that they can be used for the shielding of EMI in the microwave range. The incorporation of 15 wt.% MWCNTs in the PC matrix produces a SE more than 27 dB in X-band (8.2–12.4 GHz), and this SE is found to be dominated by absorption. Furthermore, the structural analysis, surface morphology and surface interaction of MWCNTs with PC matrix have been explored using XRD, SEM and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy technique.  相似文献

To shield undesirable electromagnetic waves caused by electronic devices and simultaneously resolve the flame safety of the electronic components, an electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding material with excellent flame‐retardant properties is urgently needed. The synergistic effect of the intumescent flame retardant (IFR) and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) for polystyrene (PS) nanocomposites prepared by melt blending was investigated. The results show that addition of certain amounts of IFRs facilitated the dispersion of MWCNTs in the PS matrix, and the percolation threshold of the MWCNTs in the PS matrix also decreased from 1.67 ± 0.05 to 1.29 ± 0.04 wt %. Moreover, the EMI shielding efficiencies (SEs) of the PS–MWCNT–IFR composites were consistently higher than those of the PS–MWCNT composites without the addition of the IFRs at the same MWCNT content; this indicated that the synergistic effect of the MWCNTs and IFRs effectively improved the EMI SE of the PS–MWCNT–IFR composites. Furthermore, the limiting oxygen index (LOI) testing results show that the LOI values of the PS–MWCNT composites were consistently higher than 27%; this indicated that the PS–MWCNT composites effectively met the needs of flame safety; this indicated that the PS–MWCNT–IFR composite is a novel and promising candidate for an ideal EMI shielding material with excellent flame‐retardant properties for today's electronic devices. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. To develop a rubber composite with excellent electrical properties, a sort of synthetic rubber, acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) with CN dipoles as matrix, multi‐walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as filler, was synthesized. NBR composites reinforced with 0.5, 1.5, 3, 10, and 20 phr MWCNT contents were fabricated by latex technology. The electrical conductivity, dielectric characteristics, and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness at room temperature of NBR/MWCNT composites were investigated. MWCNTs were found well dispersed into NBR matrix even for 20 phr content by FESEM observation. The electrical conductivity increased with an increment of MWCNT content. The dielectric constant was over 104 at 103 Hz frequency for 10 and 20 phr MWCNTs‐reinforced NBR composites. It was attributed to the increased electrons and interface polarization. The improved conductivity and dielectric permittivity resulted in an enhanced EMI shielding effectiveness. The EMI shielding effectiveness reached 26 dB at 16.7 GHz frequency for NBR/20 phr MWCNT composite with 1.0 mm thickness. POLYM. COMPOS., 2012. © 2012 Society of Plastics Engineers  相似文献

Electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials have become more and more indispensable due to serious electromagnetic-radiation pollution. Herein, waste cotton cellulose aerogels were prepared by dissolving waste cotton fabrics (WCF) in NaOH/urea aqueous solution, and MXene nanosheets were subsequently deposited on the cellulose aerogels by a facile dip coating method to obtain WCF/MXene composite aerogels. The WCF/MXene composite aerogels with highly porous network structure show remarkable electrical conductivity (8.2 Ω/sq of surface resistance), high EMI shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) in the range of 2–18 GHz (39.3–48.1 dB). The WCF/MXene aerogel possesses high SSE and SSE/t of 677.94–829.74 dB cm3 g?1 and 3512.62–4299.17 dB cm2 g?1, respectively (2–18 GHz). In addition, the heating temperature of WCF/MXene composite aerogels reaches 199 °C when 3 V positive voltage is applied on them. The WCF/MXene composite aerogels possess excellent electromagnetic shielding effectiveness, heat generation property and insulation, which can be potentially used as multifunctional materials for EMI shielding, electrical-heating and high temperature protection.  相似文献

The effect of nitric acid mild functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) on electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness (SE) of epoxy composites was examined. MWCNTs were oxidized by concentrated nitric acid under reflux conditions, with different reaction times. The dispersion of MWCNTs after functionalization was improved due to the presence of oxygen functional groups on the nanotubes surface. Functionalization at 2 h exhibits the highest EMI SE and electrical conductivity of MWCNTs filled epoxy composites. However, EMI shielding performance of MWCNTs filled epoxy composite declined when the functionalization reaction time was prolonged. This was due to extensive damage on the MWCNT structure, as verified by a Raman spectroscope. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2015 , 132, 42557.  相似文献

Lightweight and flexible composite coatings of p‐toluene sulfonic acid doped polyaniline (PANI–TSA) with various mass fractions and polyacrylate were prepared for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding. Both the volume and surface conductivities of the composite coatings increased with increasing PANI–TSA; furthermore, the volume conductivity showed a typical percolation behavior with a percolation threshold at about 0.21. The EMI shielding effectiveness (SE) of the PANI–TSA/polyacrylate coatings over the range of 14 kHz to 15 GHz increased with increasing PANI–TSA as the direct‐current conductivity did. EMI SE of the coatings at the low frequencies (14 kHz to 1 GHz) was around 30–80 dB, higher than that at the high frequencies (1–15 GHz); this indicated possible commercial application of the coatings for far‐field EMI shielding. The highest EMI SE value was 79 dB at 200 MHz with a coating thickness of 70 ± 5 μm. The moderate SE, light weight, and easy preparation of the coating are advantages for future applications for EMI shielding. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Facing increasing electromagnetic radiation pollution, soft sensors with electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding is highly desirable. Here, flexible electromagnetic shielding [polyacrylonitrile/Fe3O4/polyaniline]//[multiwalled carbon nanotube/polyvinyl pyrrolidone] (denoted [PAN/Fe3O4/PANI]//[MWCNT/PVP]) Janus membrane is reported for pressure and sliding sensing. The [PAN/Fe3O4/PANI] layer of Janus membrane as the force and sliding sensing unit can generate direct current-type (DC-type) voltage signals by conducting polymer/metal Schottky junction, whereas [MWCNT/PVP] layer serves as main electromagnetic shielding unit. Under the vertical force and horizontal sliding of aluminum (Al) foil, it can output DC-type voltage signals based on the Schottky contact. The performance of [PAN/Fe3O4/PANI]//[MWCNT/PVP] Janus membrane for pressure and sliding sensing is appropriately explored and assessed. Moreover, the Janus membrane exhibits excellent shielding effects with average EMI shielding effectiveness (SE) of 37.54 dB in 8.2–12.4 GHz (X-Band) frequency ranges. Thus, based on the asymmetrical double-layer structure, soft DC-type sensor with EMI shielding is achieved, showing utilization potential in wearable electronics and intelligent robots.  相似文献

Electrically conductive composite nanofibers of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) filled with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were prepared by electrospinning process. The complex permittivity and electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) of all composite nanofibers were measured in the X band frequency range 8.2–12.4 GHz. The electrical conductivity, real and imaginary part of permittivity, and EMI shielding behaviors of the composite nanofibers were reported as function of MWCNTs concentration. Electrical conductivity of MWCNTs/PVP composite nanofiber followed power law model of percolation theory having a percolation threshold ?c = 0.72 vol% (~1 wt.%) and exponent t = 1.71. The total EMI SE of MWCNTs/PVP composite nanofibers increased up to 42 dB mainly base on the absorption mechanism. The EMI SE measured from experiments was also compared with the approximate value calculated from theoretical model. The obtained theory results confirmed that the selected model presented acceptable performance for evaluating the involved parameters and prediction of the EMI SE of composite nanofibers. The ability of the theoretical model to predict the EMI shielding by reflection and absorption was found to be a function of the frequency, thickness, permittivity, and conductivity.  相似文献

Recently, great efforts have been made to gain highly conductive fabrics for smart textiles and flexible electromagnetic shielding materials. Different from the conventional chemical synthesis method, fibrillar polypyrrole was synthesized on the cotton fabrics via a simple chemical polymerization process with micelles of cationic surfactant (cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, CTAB) as soft template. The modified cotton fabric exhibited excellent electrical conductivity and electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness due to the formation of fibrillar polypyrrole on the fiber surface. Electrical conductivity of fabric surface were studied by four‐probe resistivity system. The highly conductive fabric with surface conductivity of 5.8 S cm?1 could be obtained by changing cationic surfactant concentration. The electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) of the modified fabrics was evaluated by the vector network analyzer instrument. Compared with the sample without using surfactant, the EMI SE value of PPy‐coated cotton fabrics increased by 28% after using 0.03 M CTAB as soft template. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. High-performance multifunctional textiles are highly demanded for human health-related applications. In this work, a highly conductive nonwoven fabric is fabricated by coating silver nanowires (AgNWs)/poly(3,4-ethyl enedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) on a poly(m-phenylene isophthalamide) (PMIA) nonwoven fabric through a multistep dip coating process. The as-prepared PMIA/AgNWs/PEDOT:PSS composite nonwoven fabric shows an electrical resistance as low as 0.92 ± 0.06 Ω sq−1 with good flexibility. The incorporation of the PEDOT:PSS coating layer improves the adhesion between AgNWs and PMIA nonwoven fabric, and also enhances the thermal stability of the composite nonwoven fabric. Electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding and Joule heating performances of the PMIA/AgNWs/PEDOT:PSS composite nonwoven fabric are also investigated. The results show that the average EMI shielding effectiveness (SE) of the single-layer nonwoven fabric in X-band is as high as 56.6 dB and retains a satisfactory level of SE after being washed, bended, and treated with acid/alkali solution and various organic solvents. The composite nonwoven fabric also exhibits low voltage-driven Joule heating performance with reliable heating stability and repeatability. It can be envisaged that the multifunctional PMIA/AgNWs/PEDOT:PSS nonwoven fabric with reliable stability and chemical robustness can be used in EMI shielding devices and personal thermal management products.  相似文献

This study compares electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding properties of injection molded versus compression molded multi-walled carbon nanotube/polystyrene (MWCNT/PS) composites, i.e., properties such as EMI shielding effectiveness (EMI SE), electrical conductivity, real permittivity and imaginary permittivity. The injection molded (MWCNT-aligned) samples showed lower EMI shielding properties than compression molded (randomly distributed MWCNT) samples that was attributed to lower probability of MWCNTs contacting each other due to MWCNT alignment. The compression molded samples showed higher electrical conductivity and lower electrical percolation threshold than the injection molded samples. The compression molded samples at MWCNT concentrations of 5.00 and 20.0 wt.% showed real permittivity two times and imaginary permittivity five times greater than the injection molded samples. The EMI SE for the compression molded samples at MWCNT concentrations of 5.00 and 20.0 wt.% was 15.0 and 30.0 dB, respectively, significantly greater than EMI SE for the injection molded samples. Lower EMI SE for the injection molded samples was ascribed to lower electrical conductivity, real permittivity (polarization loss) and imaginary permittivity (Ohmic loss). Comparison of the EMI shielding properties of the compression molded versus injection molded samples confirmed that EMI shielding does not require filler connectivity; however it increases with filler connectivity.  相似文献

Electromagnetic shielding materials play a significant role in solving the increasing environmental problem of electromagnetic pollutions. The commonly used metal‐based electromagnetic materials suffer from high density, poor corrosion resistance, and high processing cost. Polymer composites exhibit unique combined properties of lightweight, good shock absorption, and corrosion resistance. In this study, a novel high angle sensitive composite is fabricated by combining carbon fiber (CF) fabric with thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer (TPU). The effect of stacking angle of CF fabric on EMI shielding performance of composite is studied. When the stacking angle of CF fabric changed, the electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness (SE) of CF fabric/TPU composite can reach a maximum of 73 dB, and the tensile strength can reach 168 MPa. In addition, the composite has anisotropic conductivity, which is conductive along the plane direction and nonconductive along the thickness direction. Moreover, the CF fabric/TPU composite manifests exceptional EMI‐SE/density/thickness value of 383 dB cm2 g?1, which is higher than most of current EMI shielding composites reported in literature. In summary, CF fabric/TPU composite is an excellent EMI shielding material that is lightweight, highly flexible, and mechanically robust, which can be applied to the field of aerospace and some intelligent electronic devices.  相似文献

Polypyrrole (PPy) was polymerized both chemically and electrochemically in sequence on nylon 6 woven fabrics, giving rise to polypyrrole–nylon 6 composite fabrics (PPy–N) with a high electric conductivity. The stability of the composite prepared by electrochemical polymerization (ECP) on chemical oxidative polymerization (COP) fabric was better than that of the composite prepared solely by the COP process, since the AQSA dopant was able to strongly interact with the PPy main chain and had a large molecular structure. The temperature dependence of the conductivity of the composites was verified over four heating and cooling cycles. The change in conductivity over these four repeated heating and cooling cycles was affected by the interaction between the thermal stability of the dopant and the rearrangement of the PPy main chain. The electromagnetic interference shielding efficiency (EMI SE) values were in the range 5–40 dB and depended on the conductivity and the layer array sequence of the conductive fabric. The composites with a high conductivity represented reflection‐dominant EMI shielding characteristics, which are typical of the EMI shielding characteristics of metals. However, composites with low conductivity showed absorption‐dominant EMI shielding characteristics. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 87: 1969–1974, 2003  相似文献

The electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding mechanisms of multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)/polymer composites were analyzed experimentally and theoretically. For the experimental analysis, EMI shielding effectiveness (SE) of MWCNT/polypropylene (PP) composite plates made in three different thicknesses and at four different concentrations were studied. A model based on the shielding of electromagnetic plane wave was used to theoretically study the EMI shielding mechanisms. The experimental results showed that absorption is the major shielding mechanism and reflection is the secondary shielding mechanism. The modeling results demonstrated that multiple-reflection within MWCNT internal surfaces and between MWCNT external surfaces decrease the overall EMI SE. The EMI SE of MWCNT/PP composites increased with increase in MWCNT content and shielding plate thickness.  相似文献

This study has reported the preparation of polycarbonate (PC)/graphene nanoplate (GNP)/multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) hybrid composite by simple melt mixing method of PC with GNP and MWCNT at 330°C above the processing temperature of the PC (processing temperature is 280°C) followed by compression molding. Through optimizing the ratio of (GNP/MWCNT) in the composites, high electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) value (∼21.6 dB) was achieved at low (4 wt%) loading of (GNP/MWCNT) and electrical conductivity of ≈6.84 × 10−5 S.cm−1 was achieved at 0.3 wt% (GNP/MWCNT) loading with low percolation threshold (≈0.072 wt%). The high temperature melt mixing of PC with nanofillers lowers the melt viscosity of the PC that has helped for better dispersion of the GNPs and MWCNTs in the PC matrix and plays a key factor for achieving high EMI shielding value and high electrical conductivity with low percolation threshold than ever reported in PC/MWCNT or PC/graphene composites. With this method, the formation of continuous conducting interconnected GNP‐CNT‐GNP or CNT‐GNP‐CNT network structure in the matrix polymer and strong π–π interaction between the electron rich phenyl rings and oxygen atom of PC chain, GNP, and MWCNT could be possible throughout the composites. This paper describes for the first time a facile, scalable and commercially viable melt blending approach involving use of twin-screw extruder with melt recirculation provision, for uniform dispersion of up to 4.6 vol% multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) within polypropylene random copolymer (PPCP). Morphological characterization of PPCP/MWCNT nanoscale composites (NCs) was done using scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy, which show good dispersion of MWCNTs in the PPCP matrix even at high loadings and confirm the formation of true NCs. The improved dispersion leads to the formation of electrically conducting three dimensional networks of MWCNTs within PPCP matrix at very low percolation threshold (∼0.19 vol%). The attainment of dc conductivity value of ∼10−3 S/cm, tensile strength of ∼42 MPa and good thermal stability for 4.6 vol% MWCNTs loading NC along with electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness (SE) value of −47 dB (>99.99% attenuation), demonstrate its potential for making light weight, mechanically strong and thermally stable EMI shields. These NCs also display specific SE value of ∼−51 dB cm3/g which is highest among unfoamed polymer NCs.  相似文献

The effects of hybrid fillers of carbon fiber (CF) and multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) on the electrical conductivity, electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE), flame retardancy, and mechanical properties of poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT)/poly(acrylonitrile-co-styrene-co-acrylate) (PolyASA) (70/30, wt %) with conductive filler composites were investigated. The CF was used as the main filler, and MWCNT was used as the secondary filler to investigate the hybrid filler effect. For the PBT/PolyASA/CF (8 vol %)/MWCNT (2 vol %) composite, a higher electrical conductivity (1.4 × 100 S cm−1) and EMI SE (33.7 dB) were observed than that of the composite prepared with the single filler of CF (10 vol %), which were 9.0 × 10−2 S cm−1 and 23.7 dB, respectively. This increase in the electrical properties might be due to the longer CF length and hybrid filler effect in the composites. From the results of aging test at 85 °C, 120 h, the electrical conductivity and EMI SE of the composites decreased slightly compared to that of the composite without aging. The results of electrical conductivity, EMI SE, and flame retardancy suggested that the composite with the hybrid fillers of CF and MWCNT showed a synergetic effect in the PBT/PolyASA/CF (8 vol %)/MWCNT (2 vol %) composite. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
