Through interviews with experienced IS and software project managers (PMs), I identify the strategies that they would recommend to others for addressing a range of serious client-based ‘people-problems’. The problems I focus on include: unrealistic customer expectations; lack of real ownership of the project; disagreement on project goals; personal deficiencies on the part of the customer’s PM; reluctant users; and the presence of hidden agendas or ‘nasty’ politics on the customer’s side.Many of the strategies are based on the same underlying principle: ‘Protect yourself through explicitness, clarity and formality’.I show that a number of the strategies are rational when judged in the light of agency theory and the literature on interorganisational trust.  相似文献

The main purpose of this study is to examine the factors that are critical to create business value from business analytics (BA). Therefore, we conduct a meta-analysis of 125 firm-level studies spanning ten years of research from across 26 countries. We found evidence that the social factors of BA, such as human resources, management capabilities, and organizational culture show a greater impact on business value, whereas technical aspects play a minor role in enhancing firm performance. Through these findings, we contribute to the ongoing debate concerning BA business value by synthesizing and validating the findings of the body of knowledge.  相似文献

Learning analytics is the analysis of electronic learning data which allows teachers, course designers and administrators of virtual learning environments to search for unobserved patterns and underlying information in learning processes. The main aim of learning analytics is to improve learning outcomes and the overall learning process in electronic learning virtual classrooms and computer-supported education. The most basic unit of learning data in virtual learning environments for learning analytics is the interaction, but there is no consensus yet on which interactions are relevant for effective learning. Drawing upon extant literature, this research defines three system-independent classifications of interactions and evaluates the relation of their components with academic performance across two different learning modalities: virtual learning environment (VLE) supported face-to-face (F2F) and online learning. In order to do so, we performed an empirical study with data from six online and two VLE-supported F2F courses. Data extraction and analysis required the development of an ad hoc tool based on the proposed interaction classification. The main finding from this research is that, for each classification, there is a relation between some type of interactions and academic performance in online courses, whereas this relation is non-significant in the case of VLE-supported F2F courses. Implications for theory and practice are discussed next.  相似文献

We used daily MODerate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) imagery obtained over a five-year period to analyze the seasonal and inter-annual variability of the fraction of absorbed photosynthetically active radiation (FAPAR) and photosynthetic light use efficiency (LUE) for the Southern Old Aspen (SOA) flux tower site located near the southern limit of the boreal forest in Saskatchewan, Canada. To obtain the spectral characteristics of a standardized land area to compare with tower measurements, we scaled up the nominal 500 m MODIS products to a 2.5 km × 2.5 km area (5 × 5 MODIS 500 m grid cells). We then used the scaled-up MODIS products in a coupled canopy-leaf radiative transfer model, PROSAIL-2, to estimate the fraction of absorbed photosynthetically active radiation (APAR) by the part of the canopy dominated by chlorophyll (FAPARchl) versus that by the whole canopy (FAPARcanopy). Using the additional information provided by flux tower-based measurements of gross ecosystem production (GEP) and incident PAR, we determined 90-minute averages for APAR and LUE (slope of GEP:APAR) for both the physiologically active foliage (APARchl, LUEchl) and for the entire canopy (APARcanopy, LUEcanopy).The flux tower measurements of GEP were strongly related to the MODIS-derived estimates of APARchl (r2 = 0.78) but only weakly related to APARcanopy (r2 = 0.33). Gross LUE between 2001 and 2005 for LUEchl was 0.0241 µmol C µmol− 1 PPFD whereas LUEcanopy was 36% lower. Time series of the 5-year normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) were used to estimate the average length of the core growing season as days of year 152-259. Inter-annual variability in the core growing season LUEchl (µmol C µmol− 1 PPFD) ranged from 0.0225 in 2003 to 0.0310 in 2004. The five-year time series of LUEchl corresponded well with both the seasonal phase and amplitude of LUE from the tower measurements but this was not the case for LUEcanopy. We conclude that LUEchl derived from MODIS observations could provide a more physiologically realistic parameter than the more commonly used LUEcanopy as an input to large-scale photosynthesis models.  相似文献
