The master builder system for designing and building construction projects was the dominant project delivery system in the construction industry during the early part of the 20th century. Master builders were generally charged with both design and construction services for a project. During the last half of the 20th century, many different systems for project delivery with fragmented responsibilities have replaced the master builder system. Reducing the use of the master builder system has led to the creation of elaborate systems for managing projects in the construction industry. In order to investigate the use of the master builder delivery system and other systems, a research project was conducted that included reviewing (1) the history of the construction industry, (2) project delivery systems, (3) constructability issues, (4) construction industry fragmentation, (5) the results of a survey of architecture, engineering, and construction professionals from the San Francisco Bay Area in California on the current processes they use for training engineers and architects, (6) an analysis of the survey results, (7) construction industry recommendations, and (8) conclusions based on the survey results and analysis. The information obtained from the research project, including the survey and an analysis of the results, is included in this document. The results of the research indicate that reduction in the use of the master builder project delivery system and the rise of numerous fragmented delivery systems have limited the designer’s knowledge of construction processes. 相似文献

The owner-responsibility system is conducted for implementation of the Three Gorges Project (TGP). For the construction management of the project, the contracting system, the contract administration system, and the construction supervision system are executed for the project management. Contractors for civil projects are determined through bidding and contracting. The permanent equipment and construction materials are purchased through bidding. Some of large-sized construction machines and mechanical and electrical equipment are procured by the international competitive bids. Qualified engineers from qualified engineering bodies, scientific research organizations, and construction companies are selected for the construction supervision. This paper covers the construction of the TGP in some detail, particularly the main dam structure, diversion work, the construction program, and management, project cost, and financing. 相似文献

This paper presents the development of a practical and automated system for optimizing the utilization of construction resources to simultaneously minimize project cost and duration while maximizing project quality. The system is named the Multiobjective Automated Construction Resource Optimization System (MACROS), and it incorporates four newly developed modules: (1) a multiobjective optimization module to quantify and optimize the impact of resource utilization decisions on construction duration, cost, and quality; (2) a relational database module to facilitate the storage and retrieval of construction scheduling and optimization data; (3) a middleware module to provide seamless integration between the internal modules in MACROS and external commercially available project management software; and (4) a user interface module to facilitate the input of project data and the visualization and ranking of the generated optimal construction plans. An example project of 180 activities is analyzed to illustrate the use of MACROS and demonstrate its unique and practical construction optimization capabilities. 相似文献
