Conventional KrF excimer lasers which are pumped by means of an avalanche discharge use the ultraviolet radiation generated by a series of spark discharges to preionize the discharge region in order to obtain a uniform discharge. This paper describes the design and operating characteristics of a KrF avalanche-discharge laser which uses a corona discharge to preionize the discharge region. Such a preionization technique, along with the unconventional use of Ne rather than He as the buffer gas, has enabled this laser to generate overfrac{1}/{4} J of output energy with an overall efficiency of 1.3 percent while operating at a pulse rate of 2 Hz. This same general technique has enabled us to generate 55 W of average power from a gas transport KrF laser operating at higher pulse rates. 相似文献

The preionization characteristics of X-rays for self-sustained discharge rare-gas-halide lasers are summarized. X-rays showed features superior to UV for preionization of large volume high-pressure discharge lasers, which was experimentally confirmed. Futhermore, the effect of preionization on laser output was found to depend on the spatial distribution of preionization electron density and discharge electric field. When a uniform electric field area was homogeneously preionized with a collimated X-ray, an electron density of 107cm-3was found to be sufficient for high energy extraction of a XeCl laser. 相似文献

In order to obtain high-power submillimeter-wave pulses, UV preionization was applied to the transverse discharges in HCN-laser gas mixtures. Homogeneous discharges were obtained at pressures up to 1 atm. An increase of laser output and working pressure was achieved for the 337-μm emission. 相似文献

Fourteen new infrared laser transitions in Ar, Kr, and Xe ranging from3.725 to 17.233 mu m are reported. All of the Kr laser transitions and all but one of the Ar and Xe transitions have upper levels in thes ord state: the majority of the transitions satisfy the conditionDelta K = Delta J . The application of the plasma-injection technique (involving DC-discharge preionization) to a CW CO2 laser operating with recirculated gas is described. Measured characteristics of the discharges, the gain, and the output power are presented. An output of 110 W was obtained with a specific efficiency of 1.0 J/l-1 of flowed gas at a pressure of 10 kPa. A simplified model to calculate a characteristic length of the main discharge, which is useful for design purposes, is developed. This type of laser may be scaled simply to higher output powers, requires a gas mixture with only 20% He, is compact and robust, and yet is simple in its electrical and mechanical requirements 相似文献
