Standardizing the multitude of professional standards and degrees to enable professionals to work in any European Community (EC) member state, which remains one of the EC's greatest challenges, is discussed. To address these issues for engineers, the EC asked the European Federation of National Engineering Associations (Feani) to coordinate talks aimed at achieving a consensus within the engineering community for a proposed special directive for engineers that would set a minimum professional standard. The special directive will directly affect only engineers who require government licenses to work, such as civil engineers and safety engineers. It will affect other engineers, however, because European companies will likely use the directive as a reference in hiring and training engineers. Aside from certification, supply and demand as well as wages and benefits (all of which vary from country to country) will be factors in labor mobility  相似文献

In the past ten years the technology of traffic control has experienced extensive change. Equipment which was once familiar to traffic engineers and maintenance personnel has been supplanted by the new breed of devices using solid-state digital circuitry, sophisticated multiplexing, and microprocessor logic. The changes in operational capability and technical performance of systems brought about by these advances have been widely acknowledged. However, the impact upon the user is only beginning to be realized, as traffic engineers learn to cope with such considerations as operator training, maintenance, reliability, updating, and expansion. The current developments in traffic control systems hardware and the experience that is starting to be collected with respect to their installation and use are discussed. Technical and nontechnical factors are discussed and future directions are predicted.  相似文献

In the course of the renewal of the Central Control Centre Innsbruck for generation and transport of the traction energy of the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) an Energy Management System with a considerable share of Power Application Software including a training simulator was set up. The Power Application Software supplies a consistent and complete picture of the electrical power network and is the basis for the further arithmetical treatment of the process. It supports the operator in the reliable and economic system management of processes getting increasingly complex. Further it serves as help for decisions regarding the short-time system planning. The training simulator serves for the simulation of unusual operating conditions and is also used for the training of the load control engineers.  相似文献

Extended interviews with recent engineering hires by a major electronics manufacturing firm reveal substantial differences in communication training among engineering programs. Despite differences in educational background and current position, however, these engineers identify the same set of key communication skills that they believe should be developed in undergraduate electrical engineering programs. These skills, which relate to the ability to communicate well in face-to-face and small group settings, to use electronic mail effectively, and to identify audiences and address them appropriately, can be taught without adding courses to the engineering curriculum, provided course content and evaluation of student work emphasize the importance of these skills  相似文献

This paper presents an F8 microprocessor-based breadboard for the simulation of communication links using rate ½ binary convolutional codes in connection with Viterbi decoding, and which can be of value in the collection and analysis of statistical data relevant to such systems. The main purpose in the implementation of such a scheme has been to alleviate the high cost of running such simulations on macro or mini digital computers. Another advantage resides in the fact that the low cost of implementation of the final system makes it attractive as a teaching and training tool for young engineers in this important new field of communication theory. Moreover, with slight modifications, the system can be extended in a straightforward manner to handle a more general class of convolutional codes than the rate ½ codes, as well as transmission channels with more complex error statistics than the simple and rather academic binary symmetrical channel.  相似文献

Laser application in neurosurgery was slow initially but now one-fifth of the neurosurgeons in the United States use it. Lasers offer many advantages and have few drawbacks. The CO laser is widely used for ablation of tumors and the Nd: YAG laser is useful for coagulation and sutureless blood vessel anastomosis. A variety of delivery systems are available, as well as adapters for microsurgery. Certain complications have occurred with the use of the Nd:YAG laser but these can be prevented by using proper equipment and adequate training. Current research is being conducted in the tissue effects of lasers and the laser catheter approach to vascular lesions. Lasers have a definite role in the neurosurgery of the future, which will be micromanipulative, automated, and computerized. Close cooperation between engineers and surgeons will play an important role in this development.  相似文献

This paper defines mechatronics, explains mechatronics philosophy, and describes characteristics of mechatronics products and systems. It reviews aspects of education and training for mechatronics and compares the two different approaches to engineering education: generalist engineering versus specialist engineering. It also examines the Japanese approach to product development strategies and mechatronics education and training. It also gives an overview of mechatronics education in higher education institutions across the world with a specific reference to a typical mechatronics engineering degree program. The nature, size, extent, and growth rate of modern electric power systems are discussed along with examples to illustrate the large number of concepts and techniques used and to indicate the variety of technological challenges faced by electric power systems engineers. The discussion then turns to the need for a variety of educational programs to cover the breadth required, to the qualifications for faculty members who staff these programs, and to the ways in which these programs should interact with the power industry. The world of telecommunications is undergoing fundamental changes which will have profound repercussions on education. How will the cultural and economic structures of France respond to the tremendous demand for well trained and educated engineers, scientists and technicians. A brief glance at the kind of professionals useful in the field of communication sorts out the needs or trends and highlights three greater concepts : design, building and management of networks and services. Careful scrutiny of education and training systems, Universities and Grandes Ecoles specializing in professional training, shows many constraints but also hopes for more flexibility and involvement in the future. Advantages and drawbacks of long lasting education or short cycle training are compared. Permanent education or alternating school with work at the bench have to be prospected, they actually answer to urgent demand from companies having to adapt to fast evolving technologies. An attractive and efficient way to train people may be education through research. It would connect basic education with applied science : partnership between people dealing with Maxwell’s equation and those who span the links of communication and bridge between research people of all nations.  相似文献
