PURPOSE: We sought to quantify prostate tissue changes induced by finasteride and to identify a predictor of finasteride response in men with symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) via a randomized, placebo controlled, double-blind clinical trial. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Men with symptomatic BPH (52 to 78 years old) were randomly assigned to 6 months of treatment with finasteride (26) or placebo (15). Outcome measures were clinical (urinary symptom score and flow rate), chemical (serum prostate specific antigen and dihydrotestosterone levels), volumetric (transrectal ultrasound, and magnetic resonance imaging for whole and zonal prostate volumes) and histological (morphometry of prostate sextant biopsies, separated into inner and outer gland segments, to measure the percent epithelium, stroma and glandular lumen). RESULTS: In the finasteride group we found a suggestion of decreasing symptom scores and increasing flow rates (not significant) with significant decreases (p < 0.01) in prostate specific antigen (48%), dihydrotestosterone (74%) and prostate volume (21%). Finasteride treatment induced a 55% decrease in inner gland epithelium (p < 0.01) with little effect on stroma or lumina. We also found a linear correlation between pretreatment inner gland epithelial content and prostate volume decrease induced by the drug (tau = 0.58, p = 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: Finasteride treatment results in a major suppression of prostate epithelium, which is most pronounced in the inner gland. Moreover, a finasteride induced prostate volume decrease was predictable by quantification of epithelial tissues of the inner gland. These data lend additional support to the emerging concept of transition zone primacy in symptomatic BPH.  相似文献

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a common disease affecting elderly men with 70% of men over 70 years showing microscopic evidence of hyperplasia. Transurethral resection of the prostate is the gold standard treatment. Medical management of BPH has involved the use of plant extracts, amino acids, kampo and animal organ preparations in various countries with unsatisfactory results. The use of alpha adrenergic antagonists dates back twenty years representing a major breakthrough in the treatment by relaxation of the dynamic contraction of smooth muscle component of prostatic obstruction. The evolution of alpha antagonist therapy resulted in clinical trials with selective antagonists such as prazosin, alfuzosin, indoramin, terazosin and doxazosin all of which achieve similar effective relief of obstructive symptoms as phenoxybenzamine, but with fewer side effects related to postural hypotension. 5-alpha reductase inhibitors, finasteride and episteride, recently synthesised act on the static component of obstruction caused by the enlarging prostate. They inhibit conversion of testosterone to the potent intracellular androgen dihydrotestosterone (DHT) resulting in the reduction of prostate volume and improvement of obstructive symptoms. Clinical trials with finasteride for three years indicate that 63% of patients had a reduction of greater than 20% in prostatic volume and 42% had a decrease of greater than 30% with a mean increase peak flow rate of 2.4 mls/s equivalent, to 20 years reversal of disease progression.  相似文献

Prostate-specific antigen (PSA, hK3) is a diagnostic marker for prostatic cancer but lacks the specificity to sufficiently distinguish between prostatic cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Human glandular kallikrein 2 (hK2) has been proposed as a potential diagnostic marker for prostate cancer that could complement the current PSA test. Recently we demonstrated that proPSA is present in prostate cancer sera. This study examines the expression of prohK2 in prostate cells and its presence in human sera. Western blot analysis was used to assess prohK2 expression in the human carcinoma cell line, LNCaP. A highly specific and sensitive dual monoclonal immunoassay for prohK2 was developed and used to assess the presence of prohK2 in human sera. prohK2 was detected in the spent media of LNCaP cells. Furthermore, prohK2 was present at immunodetectable concentrations in human sera, and its concentration was increased in prostatic cancer and BPH. These results indicate for the first time that prohK2 is secreted by human prostate cells and is a major component of uncomplexed (free) hK2 in human sera. In addition, prohK2 in human sera is associated with prostate disease and thus may be a useful marker for prostatic cancer and BPH.  相似文献

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is the most common benign proliferative disorder of unknown etiology found in men. Because insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) with their binding proteins (IGFBPs) are involved in the control of cellular proliferation, differentiation, and metabolism, we compared their secretion by prostatic epithelial and stromal cells in primary culture from the four different zones of normal prostate and from hyperplastic tissue to assess their contributions to the hyperplastic development. IGF-I could not be detected in the conditioned medium from either epithelial or stromal cells from normal and BPH tissues. IGF-II concentrations were the same in the conditioned medium from the epithelial cells of the different zones of the normal prostate and that of BPH cells. IGF-II concentrations secreted in stromal cell culture medium, however, were higher in the periurethral zone than in the peripheral and central zones. Moreover, in the periurethral zone, stromal cells secreted higher concentrations of IGF-II than did epithelial cells. Also, BPH stromal cells secreted more IGF-II than did BPH epithelial cells. IGFBP-3, IGFBP-2, and IGFBP-4 were all secreted by both epithelial and stromal cells. In contrast, IGFBP-5 was only produced by stromal cells of the periurethral zone of the normal prostate and BPH tissue. IGFBP-3 was predominantly secreted by normal stromal cells of the transitional zone. We observed that BPH stromal cells presented the same pattern of IGF-II and IGFBP production as normal stromal cells of the periurethral zone. These data support the hypothesis that the periurethral zone is the main region of the prostate implicated in the development of BPH. They also suggest that the variability in both IGF-II secretion and the secreted forms of IGFBPs, depending on anatomical location within the organ, may be important for the autocrine regulation of normal and hyperplastic prostate growth.  相似文献

PURPOSE: To determine the expression and localization of the alpha1A-1, alpha1B and alpha1D-adrenoceptor (AR) subtypes in hyperplastic and non-hyperplastic human prostate tissue. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The expression of the alpha1-AR subtypes was examined at the mRNA level by quantitative solution hybridization, and at the protein level by immunohistochemistry using subtype selective antibodies. RESULTS: While the overall level of alpha1-AR mRNA was not significantly different between hyperplastic and non-hyperplastic tissue, there were significant differences in the ratio of the alpha1-AR subtypes expressed in the two tissue types. The most significant finding from these studies was the reduced expression of the alpha1b-AR mRNA in both glandular and stromal hyperplasia. By immunohistochemistry, the alpha1A-1-AR was detected in the stroma and not in the glandular epithelium. The alpha1B-AR was localized predominantly in the epithelium and was weakly present in the stroma. Lower levels of the alpha1B-AR were detected in the hyperplastic prostatic epithelium. The alpha1D-AR was detected in areas of stroma and was abundantly present in blood vessels. CONCLUSIONS: The alpha1A-1-, alpha1B- and alpha1D-AR subtypes are differentially localized in human prostate, and the expression levels of all three subtypes are altered in BPH. Alterations in a1-AR subtype expression (particularly the alpha1B-AR) in BPH cannot be solely attributed to changes in tissue morphometry resulting from hyperplasia and may be of significance in the pathogenesis of BPH.  相似文献

Alpha adrenergic blocker has become the first choice in the medical treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The efficacy of alpha adrenergic blocker has been suggested to be related to the prostatic tissue components, and to be ineffective in treating the clinical symptoms caused by BPH in some cases. The efficacy and prostate reduction of an anti-androgenic agent, chlormadinone acetate, combined with alpha adrenergic blocker, tamsulosin hydrochloride, were evaluated using 40-BPH patients insufficiently treated with tamsulosin hydrochloride alone. Fifty mg of chlormadinone acetate and 0.2 mg of tamsulosin hydrochloride were administered orally once a day for 16 weeks to patients with a prostate subjective symptoms score, I-PSS, of greater than 13 or a peak flow rate of less than 12 ml/s, even after the treatment with 0.2 mg of tamsulosin hydrochloride alone for more than four weeks. Total I-PSS decreased significantly after four weeks. The total irritative symptom score did not change for 16 weeks, but the total obstructive symptom score decreased significantly, as did the total I-PSS. In objective data, the estimated volume of both total prostate and the transition zone on transrectal ultrasonogram decreased significantly at the end of the treatment, and the peak flow rate decreased significantly after 12 weeks. These findings suggest that the addition of chlormadinone acetate may be a reasonable alternative in the treatment of BPH patients responding insufficiently to tamsulosin hydrochloride alone, and that combination therapy using chlormadinone acetate and tamsulosin hydrochloride may be useful for BPH patients with serious obstructive symptoms.  相似文献

PURPOSE: We estimate the prevalence of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) according to symptoms as well as prostate obstruction determined by uroflowmetry and prostate size. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional study was performed at the autonomous community of Andalusia in 1,106 men 40 years old or older. The International Prostate Symptom Score (I-PSS) questionnaire was used to establish symptoms, abdominal and transrectal ultrasonography was done to measure prostate size and uroflowmetry was performed to measure urinary flow obstruction. RESULTS: The prevalence of moderate or severe symptoms was 24.94% and it increased with age. Of the 1,106 subjects 4.19% had severe prostatism, while 12.45% had poor quality of life (I-PSS greater than 3). Average prostate size was greater than 30 gm. in men 60 years old or older. Maximum urine flow was less than 10 and 15 ml. per second in 25.97 and 55.67% of the men, respectively. The prevalence of BPH, defined as I-PSS greater than 7, maximum flow less than 15 ml. per second and prostate size greater than 30 gm., was 11.77% (range 0.75 to 30 at ages 40 to 49 and greater than 70 years, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of BPH increases with age. Moderate prostatism is perceived as resulting in poor quality of life by young subjects and good quality of life by some older subjects. In some men there were symptoms and obstruction but no prostate enlargement. This percentage persists with age after 50 years, when the prevalence of BPH starts to increase.  相似文献

Human prostate specimens commonly contain a spectrum of epithelial changes, including normal acinar and ductal structures, hyperplasia, intraepithelial neoplasia (dysplasia), and carcinoma. Since vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression is dependent on cell type and tissue microenvironment, meaningful quantitation of the levels of this mRNA in pathological specimens requires analysis at the microscopic level. Phosphorimage analysis of the binding of radiolabeled cRNA probes to tissue sections allows quantitation of mRNA levels, but the resolution is limited. Alternatively, emulsion autoradiography allows visualization of mRNA levels at cellular resolution, but quantitation is difficult. We have developed a method of quantitating steady state mRNA levels in tissue sections at the microscopic level, using autoradiography and quantitative image analysis. In this study, we describe the method and apply it to quantitation of VEGF mRNA in human prostate specimens. The VEGF mRNA level was low in nonepithelial stromal tissue (0.8 dpm/mm2), high in normal and benign hyperplastic epithelium (17-18 dpm/mm2), and significantly decreased in intraepithelial neoplasia (6.4 dpm/mm2) and in microacinar carcinoma that had invaded the stroma (3.5 dpm/mm2). Immunohistochemical staining detected VEGF protein in epithelial and stromal cells, with highest levels on the luminal surface of normal epithelium and in stromal cells, and lower levels in benign hyperplasia, intraepithelial neoplasia, and carcinoma. No correlation between VEGF expression in epithelium and nearby vessel density was observed. The results indicate a decrease in the steady state level of VEGF mRNA when prostate epithelial cells become transformed, escape the confines of glandular structure and invade the stroma, and suggest that the progression of prostatic carcinoma through the stages examined in this study is not associated with increased VEGF expression, in contrast to the elevated VEGF expression associated with progression of several other tumor types.  相似文献

In the human prostate, various androgen-metabolizing enzymes are present. Among these enzymes, testosterone 5 alpha-reductase seems to be dominant. However, androstenedione is also a potential substrate of the prostatic 5 alpha-reductase. To address the question of to what extent the reduction of androstenedione to androstanedione occurs, the present study describes in detail the kinetic characteristics (Km and Vmax) and possible age-dependent alterations of this enzymatic step in epithelium and stroma of the human prostate. In normal prostate (NPR), the mean Km (nM) and Vmax (pmol/mg protein.h) were about twofold higher in stroma (Km, 211; Vmax, 130) than in epithelium (Km, 120; Vmax, 56), whereas in the benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), the mean Km (nM; mean +/- SEM) and Vmax (pmol/mg protein.h; mean +/- SEM) were about sixfold higher in stroma (Km, 668 +/- 121; Vmax, 415 +/- 73) than in epithelium (Km, 120 +/- 10; Vmax, 73 +/- 8). In BPH, those differences between epithelium and stroma were highly significant (p < 0.001). However, the efficiency ratios (Vmax/Km) of neither BPH nor NPR showed any significant differences between epithelium (NPR, 0.47; BPH, 0.62 +/- 0.06) and stroma (NPR, 0.70; BPH, 0.63 +/- 0.05). With respect to age-related changes, only stroma showed a significant increase of Km (p < 0.01) and Vmax (p < 0.05) with age. In summary, in both epithelium and stroma of the human prostate, a 5 alpha-reductase converts in measurable amounts androstenedione to androstanedione. The kinetic data were, in part, different between epithelium and stroma; the reason for this difference remains unclear. In comparison to other metabolic conversions, such as testosterone to dihydrotestosterone and androstenedione to testosterone, it is unlikely that, in the human prostate, the adrenal androgen androstenedione contributes significantly to the formation of testosterone and, further, of dihydrotestosterone.  相似文献

Thermo-dependent changes in the secondary structure of the epithelium and stroma of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) were investigated by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) microspectroscopy combined with differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). This microscopic FT-IR/DSC system was used to simulate transurethral thermotherapy for BPH in vitro. The results indicate that thermal-induced conversion from an alpha helix to a beta structure was found in the epithelium and stroma of BPH. However, this thermal-induced conversion behavior in the stroma was less sensitive than that in the epithelium during thermal treatment. The different thermal response between the epithelium and stroma of BPH might be due to the different constitutions of the epithelium and stroma of BPH.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether histological analysis of six multiple random biopsies of the gland or analysis of only one biopsy provides a good estimate of the different components of the hyperplastic gland compared with the results obtained from tissue specimens (reference values). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The various components of prostate tissue obtained from 30 men undergoing suprapubic adenomectomy were investigated. The histological analysis was performed on multiple tissue specimens reflecting adenoma (reference values) and on one and six biopsies performed at random on the enucleated material of the hyperplastic gland. Immunohisto chemistry using anti-actin as a label of smooth muscle and specific histological staining coupled with computer-assisted quantitative morphometric analysis was used to ascertain the histological composition of the prostate. RESULTS: The mean ( +/- SD) area densities obtained from tissue specimens were 34.1 +/- 5%, 32.4 +/- 6.9%, 17.6 +/- 4.5% and 15.9 +/- 5.5% of smooth muscular and fibrous tissue, and epithelium and glandular lumen, respectively. The mean ratio of stromal to epithelial hyperplasia averaged 4.05 +/- 1.73. Both one and six biopsies gave a good estimate of fibrous tissue and glandular epithelium, but the percentage of smooth muscles was overestimated and the percentage of glandular lumen was underestimated. There was a significant relation between the prostate area densities of glandular epithelium (r = -0.41, P < 0.05), the percentage area density of prostate smooth muscle (r = 0.43, P < 0.05), and the weight of enucleated adenoma. No correlation was found with prostate-specific antigen (PSA). CONCLUSION: It seems feasible to propose medical treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) based on the histological composition of the prostate gland. One biopsy, reflecting in good proportions the nature of the adenoma, would be used to provide insight into the pathogenesis and therapy of BPH.  相似文献

PURPOSE: Our study was conducted to reveal quantitatively the relative effects of age and ultrasonic appearance of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) on urinary symptoms as evaluated by the American Urological Association (AUA) symptom index score. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In 929 examinees (732 with a normal prostate and 197 with BPH) on a mass screening program for prostatic diseases using transrectal ultrasonography in Japan, the AUA symptom score was compared to age, prostatic volume and presumed circle area ratio using simple and multiple regression analyses. RESULTS: Simple regression analysis demonstrated the symptom score to correlate significantly with age (R = 0.162, p < 0.0001), prostatic volume (R = 0.072, p = 0.0281) and presumed circle area ratio (R = 0.150, p < 0.0001). However, multiple regression analysis demonstrated that age and presumed circle area ratio were significant independent determinants of the total symptom score. Among 7 symptoms included in the AUA symptom index weak stream and hesitancy scores were not influenced by age, prostatic volume or presumed circle area ratio. CONCLUSIONS: As a parameter representing the degree of BPH in terms of the severity of urinary symptoms, presumed circle area ratio was preferable to prostatic volume. Regression analyses confirmed again that the AUA symptom index was influenced considerably by age and was not specific to BPH.  相似文献

Transurethral resection of the prostate remains the most common method for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Due to unsatisfactory results in about 18% of the patients new methods to treat BPH have been developed. We evaluated 45 patients 6 and 12 months after transurethral microwave thermotherapy using the Prostatron device with Prostasoft 2.5 software. There was a significant improvement of the urinary symptoms and of the quality of life index from 18 to 9.5 and from 3.2 to 1.6 points, respectively. Urinary flow rate improved from 8.8 to 12.1 ml/sec and residual urine was reduced from 101 to 52 ml. The treatment was well tolerated and side effects were minimal. High-energy transurethral microwave thermotherapy is an effective and safe minimal invasive alternative to treat BPH in selected patients. As no anesthesia is required transurethral microwave thermotherapy can also be offered to high risk and elderly patients.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) results from an imbalance between cell proliferation and apoptosis, and the extent to which the rates of these opposing processes are altered with the expression of the anti-death oncoprotein bcl-2. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ten prostate glands from normal men (mean age 43.7 years) were sampled according to McNeal's zonal anatomy, in addition to 30 prostate adenomas obtained from prostatectomy specimens from symptomatic patients (mean age 61.4 years). Tissue samples were fixed in formalin and embedded in paraffin. Proliferation and bcl-2 expression were assessed by immunostaining using Mib-1 and anti-bcl-2 antibodies, while apoptotic bodies were specifically stained using in situ nick translation. The percentage of positive cells was determined by optical microscopy. RESULTS: In normal epithelium, the rates of proliferation and apoptosis were increased in the peripheral zone (Mib-1 1.7%, apoptotic bodies 3.3%) compared with the central (0.2% vs 1.4%) and transition (0.1% vs 1.8%) zones. Proliferation was significantly greater in BPH than in normal prostate tissue (3.7%), contrasting with a stable rate of apoptosis (1.4%). In the normal prostate, bcl-2 was expressed by glandular and basal cells in the peripheral zone. In the central zone, bcl-2 was overexpressed in basal cells and in most glandular cells of the intraluminal ridges. Bcl-2 expression in the transition zone was limited to dispersed basal cells. In BPH, bcl-2 was strongly expressed by basal cells in mature glandular formations and in most cells of young small nodules. CONCLUSION: BPH may result from both an increase of proliferation within the basal compartment and a failure of apoptosis to counterbalance basal cell proliferation. Increased expression of bcl-2 may participate in this process by blocking apoptosis.  相似文献

Transurethral resection of the prostate is the most common surgical treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia. We conducted a prospective randomized clinical trial to compare this surgery with medical treatment in men with moderate symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Of 98 men over the age of 54 years who were screened between June 1993 and June 1995, 53 were studied (25 in the surgery group and 28 in the medication group). Patients' symptoms and the degree to which they were bothered by urinary difficulties were measured with standardized questionnaires and medical evaluations. The men randomly assigned to the surgery group underwent surgery within 2 weeks after the assignment. Surgery was not associated with an impotence or urinary incontinence. The follow-up period was 1 year. Surgery was significantly associated with improvement in residual urinary volume and peak flow rate; and also in the scores for urinary difficulties, sexual performance and interference with activities of daily living (P < 0.001 for all comparisons). We concluded that for patients with moderate symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia, surgery is more effective than medication in improving genitourinary symptoms and enhancing the quality of life. Thus, medication as treatment should be reserved for patients who are less bothered by urinary difficulty or who wish to delay surgery.  相似文献

Both transurethral microwave thermotherapy (TUMT) and medical management by alpha-blockade or 5-alpha-reductase inhibition are increasingly being considered as alternatives to surgery for treatment of patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). We review current evidence supporting the effectiveness and safety of TUMT and medical management. Factors for consideration in appropriately selecting patients for TUMT versus medical management are suggested. Available data indicate that TUMT confers greater long-term benefits than medical management as judged by symptom score and peak urinary flow rate improvements. TUMT-associated morbidity is comparatively low. Alpha-blockade affords more rapid relief than TUMT for patients with BPH; however, other strategies such as the use of temporary intraurethral endoprostheses during the acute post-TUMT recovery period may diminish or abolish the differences in time-course of symptom and flow rate improvement between TUMT and alpha-blockade. 5-Alpha-reductase inhibition with finasteride offers a favorable side-effect profile, although the magnitude of symptom and flow rate improvements is modest, and maximal effects of finasteride do not become manifest until after several months of treatment. As TUMT continues to evolve, increasing attention is being accorded the delivery of high thermal doses and precise targeting of the thermal energy delivered. The development of alpha-blockers with a more favorable side-effect profile continues to be a major focus of investigation. The potential clinical utility of combination therapy with TUMT and alpha-blockade is currently under investigation.  相似文献

PURPOSE: Benign prostatic hyperplasia is common among men who may be candidates for prostate cancer screening using prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing. Patterns of PSA testing among men with evidence of benign prostatic hyperplasia have not been studied. METHODS: We examined the prevalence and correlates of a self-reported history of PSA testing. In 1994, 33,028 US health professionals without prostate cancer aged 47 to 85 years provided information on prior PSA testing, lower urinary tract symptoms characteristic of benign prostatic hyperplasia, history of prostatectomy, and prostate cancer risk factors. In 1995, a subset of 7,070 men provided additional information on diagnosis and treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. RESULTS: From 39% of men in their 50s to 53% of men in their 80s reported PSA testing in the prior year (P <0.0001 for trend with age). Men were more likely to report PSA testing if they had lower urinary tract symptoms characteristic of benign prostatic hyperplasia (age-adjusted odds ratio for severe symptoms 2.2, 95% confidence interval 1.8 to 2.6), a prior history of prostatectomy (age-adjusted odds ratio 1.1, 95% confidence interval 1.02 to 1.2), or a physician diagnosis of benign prostatic hyperplasia (odds ratio 1.9, 95% confidence interval 1.7 to 2.2; adjusted for age, signs or symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia, and prostate cancer risk factors). CONCLUSIONS: These US health professionals reported preferential use of PSA testing among men least likely to benefit from early cancer detection (older men) and among men most likely to have a false-positive PSA result (men with benign prostatic hyperplasia). Physician and patient education are needed to promote more rational and selective use of this screening test.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the effects of flutamide in patients with physical and/or mental disorders consulting for urinary symptoms secondary to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). METHODS: 50 patients with BPH in whom surgical treatment was contraindicated due to their physical and/or mental condition were treated with flutamide 250 mg/day. Four patients presented with urinary retention and 46 patients had prostatic symptomatology. Patients were evaluated using the symptoms score (I-PSS) and quality of life (QL). Prostate volume was measured by transabdominal US; the maximum flow rate at spontaneous micturition and residual urine were determined. RESULTS: At 12 months, the I-PSS and QL scores decreased by a mean of 7 and 3 points, respectively. The US demonstrated that treatment had reduced prostatic volume by a mean of 10 gms. The maximum flow rate at spontaneous micturition increased 3 ml/sec and residual urine decreased by 15 ml. CONCLUSION: Flutamide is another alternative to surgery in specific patients with BPH.  相似文献

1H magnetic resonance spectroscopy studies (360 MHz) were performed on specimens of benign (n = 66) and malignant (n = 21) human prostate tissue from 50 patients, and the spectral data were subjected to multivariate analysis, specifically linear-discriminant analysis. On the basis of histopathological assessments, an overall classification accuracy of 96.6% was achieved, with a sensitivity of 100% and a specificity of 95.5% in classifying benign prostatic hyperplasia from prostatic cancer. Resonances due to citrate, glutamate, and taurine were among the six spectral subregions identified by our algorithm as having diagnostic potential. Significantly higher levels of citrate were observed in glandular than in stromal benign prostatic hyperplasia (P < 0.05). This method shows excellent promise for the possibility of in vivo assessment of prostate tissue by magnetic resonance.  相似文献
