A new ordered structure of the C60 derivative PCBM is obtained in thin films based on the blend PCBM:P3HT, as detailed by Swinnen, Manca, and co‐workers on p. 760. Needlelike crystalline PCBM structures, whose dimensions and spatial distribution ca be tuned by adjusting the blend ratio and annealing conditions, are formed. In typical solar‐cell applications of these blended films, these results indicate that during long‐term operation under normal conditions (50–70 °C) morphology changes and a decrease in cell performance could occur. A new ordered structure of the C60 derivative PCBM ([6‐6]‐phenyl C61‐butyric acid methyl ester) is obtained in thin films based on the blend PCBM:regioregular P3HT (poly(3‐hexylthiophene)). Rapid formation of needlelike crystalline PCBM structures of a few micrometers up to 100 μm in size is demonstrated by submitting the blended thin films to an appropriate thermal treatment. These structures can grow out to a 2D network of PCBM needles and, in specific cases, to spectacular PCBM fans. Key parameters to tune the dimensions and spatial distribution of the PCBM needles are blend ratio and annealing conditions. The as‐obtained blended films and crystals are probed using atomic force microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, selected area electron diffraction, optical microscopy, and confocal fluorescence microscopy. Based on the analytical results, the growth mechanism of the PCBM structures within the film is described in terms of diffusion of PCBM towards the PCBM crystals, leaving highly crystalline P3HT behind in the surrounding matrix. 相似文献

Plastic solar cells have been fabricated using a low‐bandgap alternating copolymer of fluorene and a donor–acceptor–donor moiety (APFO‐Green1), blended with 3′‐(3,5‐bis‐trifluoromethylphenyl)‐1′‐(4‐nitrophenyl)pyrazolino[70]fullerene (BTPF70) as electron acceptor. The polymer shows optical absorption in two wavelength ranges, λ < 500 nm and 600 < λ < 1000 nm. The BTPF70 absorbs light at λ < 700 nm. A broad photocurrent spectral response in the wavelength range 300 < λ < 1000 nm is obtained in solar cells. A photocurrent density of 3.4 mA cm–2, open‐circuit voltage of 0.58 V, and power‐conversion efficiency of 0.7 % are achieved under illumination of AM1.5 (1000 W m–2) from a solar simulator. Synthesis of BTPF70 is presented. Photoluminescence quenching and electrochemical studies are used to discuss photoinduced charge transfer. 相似文献

The effect of controlled thermal annealing on charge transport and photogeneration in bulk‐heterojunction solar cells made from blend films of regioregular poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT) and methanofullerene (PCBM) has been studied. With respect to the charge transport, it is demonstrated that the electron mobility dominates the transport of the cell, varying from 10–8 m2 V–1 s–1 in as‐cast devices to ≈3 × 10–7 m2 V–1 s–1 after thermal annealing. The hole mobility in the P3HT phase of the blend is dramatically affected by thermal annealing. It increases by more than three orders of magnitude, to reach a value of up to ≈ 2 × 10–8 m2 V–1 s–1 after the annealing process, as a result of an improved crystallinity of the film. Moreover, upon annealing the absorption spectrum of P3HT:PCBM blends undergo a strong red‐shift, improving the spectral overlap with solar emission, which results in an increase of more than 60 % in the rate of charge‐carrier generation. Subsequently, the experimental electron and hole mobilities are used to study the photocurrent generation in P3HT:PCBM devices as a function of annealing temperature. The results indicate that the most important factor leading to a strong enhancement of the efficiency, compared with non‐annealed devices, is the increase of the hole mobility in the P3HT phase of the blend. Furthermore, numerical simulations indicate that under short‐circuit conditions the dissociation efficiency of bound electron–hole pairs at the donor/acceptor interface is close to 90 %, which explains the large quantum efficiencies measured in P3HT:PCBM blends. 相似文献

New electroactive and photoactive conjugated copolymers consisting of alternating 2,7‐carbazole and oligothiophene moieties linked by vinylene groups have been developed. Different oligothiophene units have been introduced to study the relationship between the polymer structure and the electronic properties. The resulting copolymers are characterized by UV‐vis spectroscopy, size‐exclusion chromatography, and thermal and electrochemical analyses. Bulk heterojunction photovoltaic cells from different copolymers and a soluble fullerene derivative, [6,6]‐phenyl‐C61 butyric acid methyl ester, have been fabricated, and promising preliminary results are obtained. For instance, non‐optimized devices using poly(N‐(4‐octyloxyphenyl)‐2,7‐carbazolenevinylene‐alt‐3″,4″‐dihexyl‐2,2′;5′,2″;5″,2″′;5″′,2″″‐quinquethiophenevinylene 1″,1″‐dioxide) as an absorbing and hole‐carrier semiconductor exhibit power conversion efficiency up to 0.8 % under air mass (AM) 1.5 illumination. These features make 2,7‐carbazolenevinylene‐based and related polymers attractive candidates for solar‐cell applications. 相似文献

A novel fullerene derivative, 1,1‐bis(4,4′‐dodecyloxyphenyl)‐(5,6) C61, diphenylmethanofullerene (DPM‐12), has been investigated as a possible electron acceptor in photovoltaic devices, in combination with two different conjugated polymers poly[2‐methoxy‐5‐(3′,7′‐dimethyloctyloxy)‐para‐phenylene vinylene] (OC1C10‐PPV) and poly[3‐hexyl thiophene‐2,5‐diyl] (P3HT). High open‐circuit voltages, VOC = 0.92 and 0.65 V, have been measured for OC1C10‐PPV:DPM‐12‐ and P3HT:DPM‐12‐based devices, respectively. In both cases, VOC is 100 mV above the values measured on devices using another routinely used fullerene acceptor, [6,6]‐phenyl‐C61 butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM). This is somewhat unexpected when taking into account the identical redox potentials of both acceptor materials at room temperature. The temperature‐dependent VOC reveals, however, the same effective bandgap (HOMOPolymer–LUMOFullerene; HOMO = highest occupied molecular orbital, LUMO = lowest unoccupied molecular orbital) of 1.15 and 0.9 eV for OC1C10‐PPV and P3HT, respectively, independent of the acceptor used. The higher VOC at room temperature is explained by different ideality factors in the dark‐diode characteristics. Under white‐light illumination (80 mW cm–2), photocurrent densities of 1.3 and 4.7 mA cm–2 have been obtained in the OC1C10‐PPV:DPM‐12‐ and P3HT:DPM‐12‐based devices, respectively. Temperature‐dependent current density versus voltage characteristics reveal a thermally activated (shallow trap recombination limited) photocurrent in the case of OC1C10‐PPV:DPM‐12, and a nearly temperature‐independent current density in P3HT:DPM‐12. The latter clearly indicates that charge carriers traverse the active layer without significant recombination, which is due to the higher hole‐mobility–lifetime product in P3HT. At the same time, the field‐effect electron mobility in pure DPM‐12 has been found to be μe = 2 × 10–4 cm2 V–1 s–1, that is, forty‐times lower than the one measured in PCBM (μe = 8 × 10–3 cm2 V–1 s–1). 相似文献

Perpendicularly arrayed and size‐controlled nanocylinders have been prepared by simply blending an asymmetric polystyrene‐block‐polyisoprene‐block‐polystyrene triblock copolymer with polystyrene (the minority component) homopolymers of different molecular weights. The preference for perpendicular orientation or hexagonal ordering of the nanocylinders over a large area in the asymmetric block copolymer can be controlled by adjusting the molecular weight of the blended homopolymer, and the perfection of hexagonal ordering of the perpendicular cylinders can be tuned by using a substrate whose surface tension is much different from that of the majority component of the block copolymer. Such highly controlled nanostructured block‐copolymer materials, which have been obtained by a simple method independent of film thickness and interfacial tension between the blocks and the substrates, have wide‐ranging commercial potential, e.g., for use in membranes and nanotemplates with size‐tunable pores, bandgap‐controlled photonic crystals, and other nanotechnological fields demanding a specific nanosize and nanomorphology. 相似文献

The controlled tuning of the characteristic dimensions of two‐dimensional arrays of block‐copolymer reverse micelles deposited on silicon surfaces is demonstrated. The polymer used is polystyrene‐block‐poly(2‐vinylpyridine) (91 500‐b‐105 000 g mol–1). Reverse micelles of this polymer with different aggregation numbers have been obtained from different solvents. The periodicity of the micellar array can be systematically varied by changing copolymer concentration, spin‐coating speeds, and by using solvent mixtures. The profound influence of humidity on the micellar film structure and the tuning of the film topography through control of humidity are presented. Light scattering, atomic force microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy were used for characterization. As possible applications, replication of micellar array topography with polydimethylsiloxane and post‐loading of the micelles to form iron oxide nanoparticle arrays are presented. 相似文献

A solution‐processed polymer tandem cell fabricated by stacking two single cells in series is demonstrated. The two bulk‐heterojunction subcells have complementary absorption maxima at λmax ~ 850 nm and λmax ~ 550 nm, respectively. A composite middle electrode is applied that serves both as a charge‐recombination center and as a protecting layer for the first cell during spin‐coating of the second cell. The subcells are electronically coupled in series, which leads to a high open‐circuit voltage of 1.4 V, equal to the sum of each subcell. The layer thickness of the first (bottom) cell is tuned to maximize the optical absorption of the second (top) cell. The performance of the tandem cell is presently limited by the relatively low photocurrent generation in the small‐bandgap polymer of the top cell. The combination of our tandem architecture with more efficient small‐bandgap materials will enable the realization of highly efficient organic solar cells in the near future. 相似文献

High‐performance organic heterojunction phototransistors are fabricated using highly ordered copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) and para ‐sexiphenyl (p ‐6P) thin films. The p ‐6P thin film plays an important role on the performance of CuPc/p ‐6P heterojunction phototransistors. It acts as a molecular template layer to induce the growth of highly ordered CuPc thin film, which dramatically improves the charge transport and decreases the grain boundaries. On the other hand, the p ‐6P thin film can form an effective heterojunction with CuPc thin film, which is greatly helpful to enhance the light absorption and photogenerated carriers. Under 365 nm ultraviolet light irradiation, the ratio of photocurrent and dark current and photoresponsivity of CuPc/p ‐6P heterojunction phototransistors reaches to about 2.2 × 104 and 4.3 × 102 A W?1, respectively, which are much larger than that of CuPc phototransistors of about 2.7 × 102 and 7.3 A W?1, respectively. A detailed study carried out with current sensing atomic force microscopy proves that the photocurrent is predominately produced inside the highly ordered CuPc/p ‐6P heterojunction grains, while the photocurrent produced at the boundaries between grains can be neglected. The research provides a good method for fabricating high‐performance organic phototransistors using a combination of molecular template growth and organic heterojunction. 相似文献

A study of the photo‐oxidation of films of poly[2‐methoxy‐5‐(3′,7′‐dimethyloctyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylene vinylene] (MDMO‐PPV) blended with [6,6]‐phenyl C61‐butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM), and solar cells based thereon, is presented. Solar‐cell performance is degraded primarily through loss in short‐circuit current density, JSC. The effect of the same photodegradation treatment on the optical‐absorption, charge‐recombination, and charge‐transport properties of the active layer is studied. It is concluded that the loss in JSC is primarily due to a reduction in charge‐carrier mobility, owing to the creation of more deep traps in the polymer during photo‐oxidation. Recombination is slowed down by the degradation and cannot therefore explain the loss in photocurrent. Optical absorption is reduced by photo‐bleaching, but the size of this effect alone is insufficient to explain the loss in device photocurrent. 相似文献

The fabrication of a solution‐processed polymer tandem cell by stacking two single cells in series is reported by de Boer and co‐workers on p. 1897. The bottom and top cell are complementary with respect to their absorption spectra and the layer thickness of the bottom cell was optimized in order to create an optical cavity that efficiently transmits the required wavelength for the top cell. The combination of this tandem architecture with more efficient small‐bandgap materials will enable the realization of highly efficient organic solar cells. The influence of the solvent on the morphology and performance of polymer solar cells is investigated in devices based on blends of the polyfluorene copolymer, poly(2,7‐(9,9‐dioctyl‐fluorene)‐alt‐5,5‐(4′,7′‐di‐2‐thienyl‐2′,1′,3′‐benzothiadiazole)), and [6,6]‐phenyl‐C61‐butyric acid methyl ester. The blends are spin‐coated from chloroform or from chloroform mixed with small amounts of xylene, toluene, or chlorobenzene. The devices are characterized under monochromatic light and solar illumination AM1.5 (AM: air mass). An enhancement of the photocurrent density is observed in diodes made from chloroform mixed with chlorobenzene, and reduced photocurrent density is observed in diodes made from chloroform mixed with xylene or toluene, compared to diodes made from neat chloroform. The open‐circuit voltages are almost the same in all diodes. The surfaces of the active layers are imaged using atomic force microscopy. Height images indicate that a finer and more uniform distribution of domains corresponds to the diodes with enhanced photocurrent that are made from chloroform mixed with chlorobenzene, while a structure with larger domains is associated with the lower photocurrents in the diodes made from chloroform mixed with xylene or toluene. The influence of the morphology on the excited‐state dynamics and charge generation is investigated using time‐resolved spectroscopy. Fast formation of bound charge pairs followed by their conversion into free charge carriers is resolved, and excitation‐intensity‐dependent non‐geminate recombination of free charges is observed. A significant enhancement in free‐charge‐carrier generation is observed on introducing chlorobenzene into chloroform. Imaging photocurrent generation from the solar cells with a light‐pulse technique shows an inhomogeneous photocurrent distribution, which is related to the undulations in the thickness of the active layer. Thicker parts of the diodes yield higher photocurrent values. 相似文献

A series of new hybrid organic‐inorganic molecules were prepared either by grafting of aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTS) on silica nanoparticles followed by quaternarization of the nitrogen with ethyl, heptyl and isopropyl iodides or by grafting of N,N,N‐triethyl‐3‐(triethoxysilyl)propan‐1‐aminium iodide and N,N,N‐tridodecyl‐3‐(triethoxysilyl)propan‐1‐aminium iodide onto the silica nanoparticles. These new materials were used as iodide sources in the preparation of electrolyte solutions for dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The performance of DSSCs was studied as a function of the nature of the solvent, the nature of the dye, the concentration of the modified silica in the electrolyte system and the silica content introduced during the hybrid synthesis. An efficiency of 8.5 % was obtained for solar cells containing the triethyl ammonium iodide salt at a concentration of 1 M in either acetonitrile (AN) or 3‐methoxypropionitrile (MPN) under an illumination of 10 mW cm–2, the equivalent of 0.1 Sun at AM 1.5G. At 1 Sun (100 mW cm–2, efficiencies of 6.6 % and 5.1 % were recorded for the AN and MPN‐based electrolytes, respectively. 相似文献

In organic bulk heterojunction solar cells (oBHJ) the blend morphology in combination with the charge transport properties of the individual components controls the extracted photocurrent. The organic field‐effect transistor (OFET) has been proved as a powerful instrument to evaluate the unipolar carrier transport properties in a wide range of cases. In our work we extend the OFET concept to the evaluation of the bipolar transport properties in polymer‐fullerenes blends and propose a method to improve the accuracy of the evaluation. The method is based on capacitance–voltage (C–V) measurements on MOS structures prepared on the same blends and delivers complementary information on the bulk heterojunction to the one obtained with FETs. The relevance for photovoltaic applications is investigated through the correlation between the current–voltage behavior of solar cells and the bipolar mobility for composites with varying polymer molecular weight and processed from different solvents. In particular the transport features of solar cells produced from o‐Xylene (oX), a non chlorinated solvent more suitable to production requirements, have been compared to the one of devices cast from Chlorobenzene (CB) solution. For the P3HT‐PCBM blend a consistent correlation between the mobility and the electrical fill factor and power performance was found. A significant asymmetry in the bipolar carrier mobility, together with low electron mobility dependent on the Mw value, affects the performances of thick o‐Xylene cast devices. In the case of devices processed from Chlorobenzene the slower carrier has higher mobility and the small electrical losses detected are eventually more related to the formation of space‐charge and eventually to surface recombination. This results in an efficient charge collection that is almost thickness independent. We report a dependence of the slow‐carrier type (electrons or holes) and their mobility on the specific combination of molecular weight and solvent. The mobility data and the solar cell performance coherently fit to the prediction of a device model only based on the drift of carriers under the built‐in electric field originated in the donor‐acceptor oBHJ. 相似文献

The bulk‐ionized photoconductivity of C60 is reported as an origin of the bias‐dependent linear change of the photocurrent in copper phthalocyanine (CuPc)/C60 planar heterojunction solar cells, based on the observation of the variation of the bias‐dependent photocurrent on excitation wavelengths and the thickness‐dependent photocurrent of the C60 layer. A theoretical model, which is a combination of the Braun‐Onsager model for the dissociation of excitons at the donor/acceptor interface and the Onsager model for the bulk ionization of excitons in the C60 layer, describes the bias‐dependent photocurrent in the devices very well. The bulk‐ionized photoconductivity of C60 must generally contribute to the photocurrent in organic photovoltaics, since fullerene and fullerene derivatives are widely used in these devices. 相似文献

The photoconductivity of solution‐cast Zn1–xMgxO (x=0‐0.4) and poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT) thin films, and Zn1‐xMgxO/P3HT bilayers is investigated using Time‐Resolved Microwave Conductivity (TRMC) with the aim of determining the locus of free charge carrier generation in the bilayer system. The photoconductivity of Zn1–xMgxO thin films, under illumination with 300 nm laser pulses, is limited by the formation of stable excitons and by scattering of the carriers at grain boundaries. The electron mobility in Zn1–xMgxO films decreases exponentially with Mg concentration, up to x=0.4. In agreement with previous work, free carriers are observed in the P3HT film under illumination with 500 nm pulses in the absence of an acceptor. Under illumination with 500 nm pulses, where only the polymer absorbs, the TRMC signal for the Zn1–xMgxO/P3HT bilayers for x≥0.2 is the same as that of pure P3HT, indicating that free carrier generation in these bilayers occurs predominately by exciton dissociation in the polymer bulk, and not at the interface between the polymer and the solution‐cast oxide. At lower Mg concentrations (x<0.2) the TRMC signal increases with decreasing x following the dependence of the electron mobility in the oxide but its light intensity dependence remains consistent with free carrier generation in the polymer bulk. To explain these results and previously published photovoltaic device data (Adv. Funct. Mater. 2007 , 17, 264) we propose that free carrier generation in the bilayers predominantly occurs in the bulk of P3HT, and is followed by electron injection to the oxide to yield photocurrent in photovoltaic cells. The dependence of the TRMC signal of the bilayers on Mg concentration is explained in terms of the yield for free carrier generation in the polymer and the relative contributions of electrons in the oxide and holes in the polymer. 相似文献

The photovoltaic behavior of three hexa‐peri‐hexabenzocoronene (HBC) derivatives has been investigated with respect to the influence of the alkyl side chains. Upon increasing the side chain length, the HBC chromophore becomes diluted, thus decreasing the amount of light absorbed. Differential scanning calorimetry and powder X‐ray analysis reveal that the HBC with the 2‐ethyl‐hexyl side chain is in a crystalline state at room temperature, while the other two HBCs containing 2‐hexyl‐decyl and 2‐decyl‐tetradecyl substituents in so‐called plastic crystalline state. The HBC with the shortest side chain is proven to be the best donor for perylenediimide, showing a highest external quantum efficiency of 12 %. Furthermore, scanning electron microscopy imaging suggested an important role of the morphology of the active film in determining the performance of the device. 相似文献

Polymer solar cells have been fabricated from a recently synthesized low band‐gap alternating polyfluorene copolymer, APFO‐Green2, combined with [6,6]‐phenyl‐C61‐butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) from organic solutions. External quantum efficiencies (EQEs) of the solar cells show an onset at 850 nm and a peak of > 10 % located at 650 nm, which corresponds to the extended absorption spectrum of the polymer. Photocurrent of 3.0 mA cm–2, photovoltage of 0.78 V, and power conversion efficiency of 0.9 % have been achieved in solar cells based on this new low‐bandgap polymer under the illumination of air mass 1.5 (AM 1.5) (1000 W m–2) from a solar simulator. 相似文献

The self‐organization of the polymer in solar cells based on regioregular poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (RR‐P3HT):[6,6]‐phenyl C61‐butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) is studied systematically as a function of the spin‐coating time ts (varied from 20–80 s), which controls the solvent annealing time ta, the time taken by the solvent to dry after the spin‐coating process. These blend films are characterized by photoluminescence spectroscopy, UV‐vis absorption spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, and grazing incidence X‐ray diffraction (GIXRD) measurements. The results indicate that the π‐conjugated structure of RR‐P3HT in the films is optimally developed when ta is greater than 1 min (ts ~ 50 s). For t s < 50 s, both the short‐circuit current (JSC) and the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of the corresponding polymer solar cells show a plateau region, whereas for 50 < ts < 55 s, the JSC and PCE values are significantly decreased, suggesting that there is a major change in the ordering of the polymer in this time window. The PCE decreases from 3.6 % for a film with a highly ordered π‐conjugated structure of RR‐P3HT to 1.2 % for a less‐ordered film. GIXRD results confirm the change in the ordering of the polymer. In particular, the incident photon‐to‐electron conversion efficiency spectrum of the less‐ordered solar cell shows a clear loss in both the overall magnitude and the long‐wavelength response. The solvent annealing effect is also studied for devices with different concentrations of PCBM (PCBM concentrations ranging from 25 to 67 wt %). Under “solvent annealing” conditions, the polymer is seen to be ordered even at 67 wt % PCBM loading. The open‐circuit voltage (VOC) is also affected by the ordering of the polymer and the PCBM loading in the active layer. 相似文献

Methods to accurately measure the current–voltage characteristics of organic solar cells under standard reporting conditions are presented. Four types of organic test cells and two types of silicon reference cells (unfiltered and with a KG5 color filter) are selected to calculate spectral‐mismatch factors for different test‐cell/reference‐cell combinations. The test devices include both polymer/fullerene‐based bulk‐heterojunction solar cells and small‐molecule‐based heterojunction solar cells. The spectral responsivities of test cells are measured as per American Society for Testing and Materials Standard E1021, and their dependence on light‐bias intensity is reported. The current–voltage curves are measured under 100 mW cm–2 standard AM 1.5 G (AM: air mass) spectrum (International Electrotechnical Commission 69094‐1) generated from a source set with a reference cell and corrected for spectral error. 相似文献
