A 25 frame/s display of 337 ?m radiation, from a low-power (0.3 mW) HCN laser, has been obtained for the first time. The vidicon tube incorporates a 16 mm-diameter triglycine-sulphate target and its sensitivity to 337 ?m radiation has not been optimised.  相似文献

A simple scheme for generating continuous-wave (CW) terahertz (THz) radiation from a two-colour laser is reported. A Ti-sapphire laser is forced to oscillate on two modes by placing a Fabry-Perot etalon in the laser cavity. THz radiation is generated by photomixing in a biased photoconverter. The near and far field patterns that the EH11 waveguide mode produces upon being launched from the end of an oversized hollow dielectric waveguide have been studied in the submillimeter region for a HCN waveguide laser and waveguide excitated by it. Experimental results agree, in general, with the calculation of Degnan using the Fresnel approximation to scalar diffraction theory.  相似文献

Power-amplifier modules covering 70-113 GHz using MMICs   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
A set of W-band power amplifier (PA) modules using monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs) have been developed for the local oscillators of the far-infrared and sub-millimeter telescope (FIRST). The MMIC PA chips include three driver and three PAs, designed using microstrip lines, and another two smaller driver amplifiers using coplanar waveguides, covering the entire W-band. The highest frequency PA, which covers 100-113 GHz, has a peak power of greater than 250 mW (25 dBm) at 105 GHz, which is the best output power performance for a monolithic amplifier above 100 GHz to date. These monolithic PA chips are fabricated using 0.1-μm AlGaAs/InGaAs/GaAs pseudomorphic T-gate power high electron-mobility transistors on a 2-mil GaAs substrate. The module assembly and testing, together with the system applications, is also addressed in this paper  相似文献

This work reports calculations and measurements on mode converters for the transformation of TEOn gyrotron mode mixtures (primarily TEO2) into the linearly polarized HE11 hybrid mode at 70 GHz. This mode is ideal for quasi-optical launching systems for ECRH of plasmas. Mode transducers with axisymmetric radius perturbations convert the gyrotron TEOn mode composition into the TEO1 mode. Proper matching of the phase differences between the various modes and of the perturbation amplitudes of the several converter sections is required. The TEO1 wave is used for long-distance transmission through smooth-walled overmoded waveguides. A mode converter with constant diameter and periodically perturbed curvature transfers the unpolarized TEO1 mode into the polarized TE11 wave. The experimentally determined ΣTEOn-to-TEO1 conversion efficiency is (98.5±1)% (99% predicted) while the TEO1-to-TE11 transformer has a (94±2)% efficiency (93% theoretically); ohmic losses are included. The “Gaussian-like” HE11 mode with axisymmetric power distribution and almost no cross polarization is produced in a circumferentially corrugated TE11-to-HE11 mode transducer with a measured conversion efficiency of (98.3±1.5)% (98.5% predicted). The overall efficiency of the complete mode converter system in the desired mode was determined to be (91±2.5)%. High-power operation (200kW, 100ms) has been successfully demonstrated.  相似文献

Nonlinear dynamics of an optically injected semiconductor laser is applied to photonic microwave generation. By properly adjusting the injection conditions, the optical frequency of the slave laser is first locked to the master laser. The slave laser is then driven into a periodic dynamical state, resulting in a single-sideband (SSB) microwave modulation on the optical carrier. The frequency of the SSB can be controlled by the optical injection strength and detuning. Frequency-modulated SSB can, thus, be obtained from a modulated injection. In this work, we experimentally investigate the generated SSB in terms of its broad tunability and fast modulation response. The results suggest application of this system in radio-over-fiber and optical subcarrier multiplexing technologies when microwave frequency modulation or frequency-shift keying is employed.  相似文献

A very simple and practical technique to generate a stable, narrow-angle single-lobe far-field radiation pattern from an ordinary twin-lobe phase-locked laser diode array is demonstrated. A variable phase-shift zone plate mounted close to the laser output facet is used to readjust the phase distribution of the array into an all-in-phase distribution producing the desired single narrow-lobe far-field pattern.  相似文献

推导了LD泵浦主动调Q腔内和频拉曼激光器的归一化速率方程组,由实际的实验参数确定了方程组中七个综合参量的合理取值范围,然后用数值模拟的方法得到各个综合参量的大小对于和频光的脉冲峰值功率、单脉冲能量和脉冲宽度的影响,分析发现归一化和频因子F和归一化拉曼增益系数M之间能够相互匹配,通过数值拟合得到F和M在不同归一化反转粒子数密度N下的匹配方程,由此得出F和M的匹配值呈线性关系,应用此线性方程可以指导实验中参数的优化,使激光器获得更大的和频转换效率。最后利用拟合的结论对报道的实验进行计算和分析并给出优化措施。  相似文献

We demonstrate 60 GHz carrier generation and transmission using a two-mode injection-locked Fabry-Perot (F-P) slave laser. The relationship between the power of the generated carriers and the frequency of the reference signal for the injection-locking is also investigated. The RF power-penalty caused by fiber dispersion was within 2.0 dB when the locked modes were transmitted at a distance of 0.5-48 km. A new dynamic regime in a multisegmented AlGaAs/GaAs DH injection laser has been realised. Generation of bandwidth-limited 100 GHz repetition rate pulses has been demonstrated. The influences on HCN laser frequency by the parameters of the laser have been discussed theoretically and experimentally. The frequency variations of the HCN laser versus discharge current and gas pressure have been measured to be 2.9 kHz/mA and 8.1 kHz/mtorr respectively. A submillimeter-wave/far-infrared (SMM/FIR) laser sideband heterodyne spectrometer has been built for molecular rotational spectroscopy application in the frequency range of 600–3000 GHz. Based on Gaussian optics, optical system of the spectrometer is designed to be quasi-achromatic and low losses. Optical pulse generation at 100 GHz using a 1.5 μm Fabry-Perot laser is experimentally demonstrated under continuous wave operation. Although the output from the laser is almost constant, sub-picosecond short pulses at 100 GHz are obtained after propagation through a singlemode fibre. Theoretical and experimental studies of the evolution of a frequency-chirped pulse under the influence of both phase and gain dispersion effects induced by the free-electron laser interaction are presented. For the experimental parameters used (electron beam voltage V=150 kV, wiggler periodicity lw=3.5 cm, gain ~10 dB, input pulse width Δt~200 ns, frequency w 0/2π=10 GHz, and frequency chirp α/2π~5 MHz/ns), pulses of a few nanoseconds were generated after an interaction length of 2.30 m, in good agreement with theoretical expectations  相似文献
