The electrical, thermal, and mechanical properties of porous SiC ceramics with B4C-C additives were investigated as functions of C content and sintering temperature. The electrical resistivity of porous SiC ceramics decreased with increases in C content and sintering temperature. A minimal electrical resistivity of 4.6 × 10?2 Ω·cm was obtained in porous SiC ceramics with 1 wt% B4C and 10 wt% C. The thermal conductivity and flexural strength increased with increasing sintering temperature and showed maxima at 4 wt% C addition when sintered at 2000 °C and 2100 °C. The thermal conductivity and flexural strength of porous SiC ceramics can be tuned independently from the porosity by controlling C content and sintering temperature. Typical electrical resistivity, thermal conductivity, and flexural strength of porous SiC ceramics with 1 wt% B4C-4 wt% C sintered at 2100 °C were 1.3 × 10?1 Ω·cm, 76.0 W/(m·K), and 110.3 MPa, respectively.  相似文献

The introduction of multiple heterogeneous interfaces in a ceramic is an efficient way to increase its thermal resistance. Novel porous SiC–SiO2–Al2O3–TiO2 (SSAT) ceramics were fabricated to achieve multiple heterogeneous interfaces by sintering equal volumes of SiC, SiO2, Al2O3, and TiO2 compacted powders with polysiloxane as a bonding phase and carbon as a template at 600 °C in air. The porosity could be controlled between 66% and 74% by adjusting the amounts of polysiloxane and the carbon template. The lowest thermal conductivity (0.059 W/(m·K) at 74% porosity) obtained in this study is an order of magnitude lower than those (0.2–1.3 W/(m·K)) of porous monolithic SiC, SiO2, Al2O3, and TiO2 ceramics at an equivalent porosity. The typical specific compressive strength value of the porous SSAT ceramics at 74% porosity was 3.2 MPa cm3/g.  相似文献

The effects of porosity on the electrical and thermal conductivities of porous SiC ceramics, containing Y2O3–AlN additives, were investigated. The porosity of the porous SiC ceramic could be controlled in the range of 28–64 % by adjusting the sacrificial template (polymer microbead) content (0–30 wt%) and sintering temperature (1800–2000 °C). Both electrical and thermal conductivities of the porous SiC ceramics decreased, from 7.7 to 1.7 Ω−1 cm−1 and from 37.9 to 5.8 W/(m·K), respectively, with the increase in porosity from 30 to 63 %. The porous SiC ceramic with a coarser microstructure exhibited higher electrical and thermal conductivities than those of the ceramic with a finer microstructure at the equivalent porosity because of the smaller number of grain boundaries per unit volume. The decoupling of the electrical conductivity from the thermal conductivity was possible to some extent by adjusting the sintering temperature, i.e., microstructure, of the porous SiC ceramic.  相似文献

In this study, a series of porous ceramics were prepared using different ratios of small and large size MA hollow ceramic spheres as pore-forming agents, and their thermal insulation properties were investigated. The results showed that increasing the proportion of small size hollow ceramic spheres could effectively decrease the thermal conductivity and improve the compressive strength of the porous ceramics. The optimal porous ceramic was prepared with a ratio of 10∼50 of small and large size hollow ceramic spheres, which had a thermal conductivity of 0.368 W/(m·K) at 800 °C and a compressive strength of 22.43 MPa. Microscopic analysis indicated that the enhanced thermal insulation and mechanical properties were due to the improved pore structure and the enhanced bonding strength between the ceramic spheres and the matrix. The findings provide valuable insights for the development of high-performance thermal insulation materials.  相似文献

The potentially useful role of lanthanum zirconate (La2Zr2O7, LZO) porous bulk ceramics has been rarely explored thus far, much less the optimisation of its pore structure. In this study, LZO porous ceramics were successfully fabricated using a tert-butyl alcohol (TBA)-based gelcasting method, and the pore structures were tailored by varying the initial solid loading of the slurry. The as-prepared ceramics exhibited an interconnected pore structure with high porosity (67.9 %–84.2 %), low thermal conductivity (0.083–0.207 W/(m·K)), and relatively high compressive strength (1.56–7.89 MPa). The LZO porous ceramics with porosity of 84.2 % showed thermal conductivity as low as 0.083 W/(m·K) at room temperature and 0.141 W/(m·K) at 1200 °C, which is much lower than the counterparts fabricated from particle-stabilized foams owing to its unique pore structure with a smaller size, exhibiting better thermal insulating performance.  相似文献

Porous SiC ceramic membrane supports are widely employed in a wide variety of high-temperature applications, such as hot flue gas filtration, porous burners and molten metal filters. Herein, SiC supports, with a porosity of ~37%, were prepared by using low-temperature bonding techniques and the influence of different bonding phases, such as mullite, cordierite and glass, on ambient-temperature flexural strength, hot modulus of rupture (HMOR), thermal shock resistance and oxidation resistance were systematically investigated. The results reveal that the glass-bonded SiC (GBSC) support exhibited the highest ambient-temperature flexural strength of 33.6 MPa, whereas the flexural strength of mullite-bonded SiC (MBSC) and cordierite-bonded SiC (CBSC) supports ranged from 22 to 25 MPa. However, the presence of glass phase deteriorated the high-temperature properties of the support. MBSC support rendered superior mechanical strength at high temperature and self-strengthening in a certain temperature range, such as HMOR improved 47.5% at 900 °C, but HMOR of glass-bonded support was only 57.4% of the ambient-temperature strength. Moreover, MBSC and CBSC supports exhibited better thermal shock resistance than GBSC supports and the critical temperature difference of water quenching for MBSC supports was ~200 °C higher than GBSC supports. In addition, MBSC support rendered superior oxidation resistance and exhibited a weight gain rate of ~0.1% at 1150 °C for 24 h, which is 54.4% and 42.2% lower than CBSC and GBSC supports, respectively.  相似文献

Iron tailings remain the environment-damaging waste from the iron ore, and high porosity porous ceramics are an attractive material to “turn waste into treasure.” To improve the thermal conductivity, porous ceramics with high silicon carbide content have been prepared by carbothermal reduction sintering process using argillaceous fine-grained iron tailings with high silica content. The carbothermal reduction reaction mechanism and the components and properties of samples in sintering process are investigated. The results show that reaction components in the tailings are mainly SiO2 and Fe2O3 and liquid phase is generated rapidly between 1200°C and 1300°C, producing foaming effect and significantly improving the porosity. Moreover carbothermal reduction of SiO2 occurs above 1300°C. After sintering at 1600°C for 2 hours, the apparent porosity and thermal conductivity of porous iron tailing ceramics are 81.1% and 0.58 W/(m·K), respectively. Compared with the ordinary porous iron tailing ceramics with the same porosity, the thermal conductivity of those herein is increased by 6.6 times. This study is instructive for the development of low-cost preparation technology of phase change material carriers.  相似文献

Fiberglass porous ceramics were successfully prepared via a foam-gelcasting process with fiberglass and glass particles. The effects of fiber content on the rheology of foaming slurries and the structure and mechanical properties of as-prepared porous ceramics were investigated. The results showed that as the ratio of fiberglass to glass particles increased, the thixotropy of slurries decreased, which affected the foamability of slurries. When the ratio of fiberglass to particle was 75:25, the slurries exhibited excellent flowability and outstanding foamability, which was beneficial to optimize the structure of pores and improve the properties of the porous ceramics. The porosity, compressive strength, and thermal conductivity of porous ceramics with a content of 75 wt.% fiberglass treated at 750°C were 78.3%, 2.15 MPa, and .11 W/(m·K) (room temperature), respectively. Therefore, the prepared porous ceramics with a ratio of fiberglass to particle 75:25 were regarded as an ideal candidate for thermal insulation materials.  相似文献

High-temperature properties including compressive strength, thermal shock behavior, and thermal conductivity of porous anorthite ceramics with high specific strength were tested and analyzed. The results showed that the prepared materials merit high-temperature compressive strength, thermal stability, and conductivity. With the appropriate fabrication parameters, even though containing 0.33 g/cm3 bulk density and 88.2% porosity, its compressive strength could reach 2.03 MPa at 1000°C, 147% of that at room temperature; the residual strength ratio kept as 114.7% after a thermal shock at 1200°C. The X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) showed that anorthite grains refinement and intergranular voids filling by liquid phase were main factors for the high strength. From room temperature to 1200°C, its thermal conductivity only varied from 0.085 to 0.258 W·(m·K)−1. High porosity, a large number of nanoregions in anorthite grains and amorphous phase in grain boundary were main reasons for low thermal conductivity.  相似文献

In this study, ammonium phosphate monobasic and boric acid were used as the primary starting materials to produce BPO4 powder by solid-state reaction. Using BPO4 powders as the main raw material, BPO4 ceramic foams were prepared for the first time using the direct foaming method and freeze-drying techniques. The effects of the additive content and solid loading on the slurry's rheological behavior were investigated, and the microstructures and properties of the as-prepared BPO4 ceramic foams were examined. The results reveal that the porosity of the BPO4 ceramic foams synthesized at 1223 K ranged from 84.2% to 90.4%, the compressive strength ranged from .12 MPa to .72 MPa, and the thermal conductivity ranged from .32 W/(m·K) to .74 W/(m·K) (298 K). The findings of this study have great significance for the development of new thermal insulation ceramic materials.  相似文献

The employment of solar energy in recent years has reached a remarkable edge. It has become even more popular as the cost of fossil fuel continues to rise. Energy storage system improves an adjustability and marketability of solar thermal and allowing it to produce electricity in demand. This study attempted to prepare cordierite/mullite composite ceramics used as solar thermal storage material from calcined bauxite, talcum, soda feldspar, potassium feldspar, quartz, and mullite. The thermal physical performances were evaluated and characterized by XRD, SEM, EPMA, and EDS. It was found that the optimum sintering temperature was 1280°C for preparing, and the corresponding water adsorption was 11.25%, apparent porosity was 23.59%, bulk density was 2.10 mg·cm?3, bending strength was 88.52 MPa. The residual bending strength of specimen sintered at 1280°C after thermal shock of 30 times decreased to be 57 MPa that was 36% lower than that before. The thermal conductivity of samples sintered at 1280°C was tested to be 2.20 W·(m·K)?1 (26°C), and after wrapped a PCM (phase change materials) of K2SO4, the thermal storage density was 933 kJ·kg?1 with the temperature difference (ΔT) ranged in 0‐800°C. The prepared cordierite/mullite composite ceramic was proved to be a promising material for solar thermal energy storage.  相似文献

Oxide-bonded porous SiC ceramic filter supports were prepared using SiC powder (d50 = 212 µm), Al2O3, and clay as bond forming additives and graphite as pore former following reaction bonding of powder compacts at 1400°C in air. Reaction bonding characteristics, phase composition, porosity, pore size, mechanical strength, and microstructure of porous SiC ceramic supports were investigated. Mullite bond phase formation kinetics was studied following the Johnson–Mehl–Avrami–Kolmogorov (JMAK) model using non-isothermal differential thermal analysis (DTA) data. Compared to porous SiC ceramic filter supports having no needle-like mullite bond phase, materials processed by the mullite bonding technique exhibited higher average strength (22.1%) and elastic modulus (5.4%) at a similar porosity level of ~38%, with upper and lower bounds of their strength, modulus, and porosity being 39.1 MPa, 40.2 GPa, and 36.3% and 34.2 MPa, 31.3 GPa, and 33.0%, respectively. Spray coating method was applied for preparation of oxidation-bonded SiC filtration layer having thickness of ~150 µm and pore size of ~5–20 µm over the porous SiC support compacts using aqueous slurry made of fine SiC powder (d50 = 15 µm) followed by sintering. The layered ceramics thus prepared are potential materials for gas filter applications.  相似文献

The elevated temperature thermal properties of zirconium diboride ceramics containing boron carbide additions of up to 15 vol% were investigated using a combined experimental and modeling approach. The addition of B4C led to a decrease in the ZrB2 grain size from 22 µm for nominally pure ZrB2 to 5.4 µm for ZrB2 containing 15 vol% B4C. The measured room temperature thermal conductivity decreased from 93 W/m·K for nominally pure ZrB2 to 80 W/m·K for ZrB2 containing 15 vol% B4C. The thermal conductivity also decreased as temperature increased. For nominally pure ZrB2, the thermal conductivity was 67 W/m·K at 2000 °C compared to 55 W/m·K for ZrB2 containing 15 vol% B4C. A model was developed to describe the effects of grain size and the second phase additions on thermal conductivity from room temperature to 2000 °C. Differences between model predictions and measured values were less than 2 W/m·K at 25 °C for nominally pure ZrB2 and less than 6 W/m·K when 15 vol% B4C was added.  相似文献

Porous mullite ceramics are widely used in heat insulation owing to their high temperature and corrosion resistant properties. Reducing the thermal conductivity by increasing porosity, while ensuring a high compressive strength, is vital for the synthesis of high-strength and lightweight porous mullite ceramics. In this study, ceramic microspheres are initially prepared from pre-treated high-alumina fly ash by spray drying, and then used to successfully prepare porous mullite ceramics with enhanced compressive strength via a simple direct stacking and sintering approach. The influence of sintering temperature and time on the microstructure and properties of porous mullite ceramics was evaluated, and the corresponding formation mechanism was elucidated. Results show that the porous mullite ceramics, calcined at 1550 °C for 3 h, possess a porosity of 47%, compressive strength of 31.4 MPa, and thermal conductivity of 0.775 W/(m?K) (at 25 °C), similar to mullite ceramics prepared from pure raw materials. The uniform pore size distribution and sintered neck between the microspheres contribute to the high compressive strength of mullite ceramics, while maintaining high porosity.  相似文献

A material extrusion (MEX) technology has been developed for the additive manufacturing of continuous carbon fiber–reinforced silicon carbide ceramic (Cf/SiC) composites. By comparing and analyzing the rheological properties of the slurries with different compositions, a slurry with a high solid loading of 48.1 vol% and high viscosity was proposed. Furthermore, several complex structures of Cf/SiC ceramic composites were printed by this MEX additive manufacturing technique. Phenolic resin impregnation–carbonization process reduces the apparent porosity of the green body and protects the Cf. Finally, the reactive melting infiltration (RMI) process was used to prepare samples with different Cf contents from 0 to 2 K (a bundle of carbon fibers consisting of 1000 fibers). Samples with Cf content of 1 K show the highest bending strength (161.6 ± 10.5 MPa) and fracture toughness (3.72 ± 0.11 MPa·m1/2) while the thermal conductivity of the samples with the Cf content of 1 K reached 11.0 W/(m·K). This study provides a strategy to prepare Cf/SiC composites via MEX additive manufacturing and RMI.  相似文献

The emerging porous Y2SiO5 ceramic is regarded as a promising candidate of thermal insulator owing to its very low thermal conductivity. However, recent works on porous Y2SiO5 are confronted with severe problems such as large linear shrinkage (18.51–20.8%), low porosity (47.74–62%) and low strength (24.45–16.51 MPa) at high sintering temperatures (1450–1500 °C). In this work, highly porous Y2SiO5 ceramic with low shrinkage and excellent high-temperature strength was fabricated by in-situ foam-gelcasting method at 1550 °C. The as-prepared sample has unique multiple pore structures, low linear shrinkages of 6.3–4.5%, controllable high porosities of 60.7–88.4%, high compressive strengths of 38.2–0.90 MPa, and low thermal conductivities of 0.126–0.513 W/(m K) (porosity: 87.1–60.2%). The effects of relative density on relative strength, as well as porosity on thermal conductivity were quantitatively discussed. The present results indicate that porous Y2SiO5 is the potential high-temperature thermal insulation material of light weight, low thermal conductivity, and high strength.  相似文献

The electrical and thermal properties of SiC ceramics containing 1 vol% nitrides (BN, AlN or TiN) were investigated with 2 vol% Y2O3 addition as a sintering additive. The AlN‐added SiC specimen exhibited an electrical resistivity (3.8 × 101 Ω·cm) that is larger by a factor of ~102 compared to that (1.3 × 10?1 Ω·cm) of a baseline specimen sintered with Y2O3 only. On the other hand, BN‐ or TiN‐added SiC specimens exhibited resistivity that is lower than that of the baseline specimen by a factor of 10?1. The addition of 1 vol% BN or AlN led to a decrease in the thermal conductivity of SiC from 178 W/m·K (baseline) to 99 W/m·K or 133 W/m·K, respectively. The electrical resistivity and thermal conductivity of the TiN‐added SiC specimen were 1.6 × 10?2 Ω·cm and 211 W/m·K at room temperature, respectively. The present results suggest that the electrical and thermal properties of SiC ceramics are controllable by adding a small amount of nitrides.  相似文献

The porous anorthite ceramics with high porosity, good mechanical strength and low heat conductivity were prepared using red mud and fly ash as raw materials via the pore forming method. The effects of sintering temperature and fly ash on phase evolution, densification, compressive strength, thermal conductivity and microstructure of the ceramic materials were investigated. The results showed that the compressive strength of the porous ceramics had an obvious improvement with the increase in fly ash, and the densification and heat conductivity decreased firstly and then increased. In particular, specimen S2 containing 30 wt% red mud and 40 wt% fly ash sintered at 1150°C had the better performances. It had the water absorption of 18.18%, open porosity of 38.52%, bulk density of 1.29 g/cm3, compressive strength of 42.46 MPa, and heat conductivity of 1.24 W/m·K. X-ray diffraction analysis indicated that mullite, anorthite, α-quartz, and diopside ferrian were the dominant phases in the specimens. Scanning electron microscopy micrographs illustrated that plenty of open pores with strip shape and closed pores with axiolitic shape existed in the specimens. Furthermore, the existence of mullite could prevent crack propagation to enhance the energy of inter-granular fracture. It endowed the porous anorthite ceramics with high porosity, good compressive strength, and low heat conductivity.  相似文献

Excessive sintering shrinkage leads to severe deformation and cracking, affecting the microstructure and properties of porous ceramics. Therefore, reducing sintering shrinkage and achieving near-net-size forming is one of the effective ways to prepare high-performance porous ceramics. Herein, low-shrinkage porous mullite ceramics were prepared by foam-gelcasting using kyanite as raw material and aluminum fluoride (AlF3) as additive, through volume expansion from phase transition and gas generated from the reaction. The effects of AlF3 content on the shrinkage, porosity, compressive strength, and thermal conductivity of mullite-based porous ceramics were investigated. The results showed that with the increase of content, the sintering shrinkage decreased, the porosity increased, and mullite whiskers were produced. Porous mullite ceramics with 30 wt% AlF3 content exhibited a whisker structure with the lowest shrinkage of 3.5%, porosity of 85.2%, compressive strength of 3.06 ± 0.51 MPa, and thermal conductivity of 0.23 W/(m·K) at room temperature. The temperature difference between the front and back sides of the sample reached 710°C under high temperature fire resistance test. The low sintering shrinkage preparation process effectively reduces the subsequent processing cost, which is significant for the preparation of high-performance porous ceramics.  相似文献

Lanthanum zirconate (LZO) ceramic foams with hierarchical pore structure were fabricated by particle-stabilized foaming method for the first time, and the as-prepared ceramics have high porosity of 90.7%-94.9%, low thermal conductivity, and relatively high compressive strength. The LZO powder was synthesized by solid-state method. The porosity of the ceramic foams was tailored by suspensions with different solid loadings (20-40 wt%). The sample with porosity of 94.9% has thermal conductivity of 0.073 W/(m·K) and compressive strength of 1.19 MPa, which exhibits outstanding property of thermal insulation and mechanical performance, indicating that LZO ceramic foam is a promising thermal insulation material in high temperature applications.  相似文献
